Would this crazy idea work...?

Hey there. So, I was playing around with my Ruby version for kicks, when I came across one of my old friends' Secret Bases.

Now, I had forgotten about how useful Secret Bases can be, and having a certain pokemon in my party I began to think. (No, it didn't hurt.)

Here's the scenario. Say, you want a Sudowoodo who knows Overheat, for some reason.
Obviously, Sudowoodo cannot learn Overheat, it's a rock tree... thing. that doesn't breathe/emit fire.

BUT!, you have switched records with someone who incidentally happened to have a party full of Smeargles at the time, and they all know Sketch.

Now, your Sudowoodo knows Mimic. So you go into the Secret Base and challenge the Trainer, and he sends out his Smeargle. Let's say it uses Sketch, and you have the good fortune to have Sudowoodo mimic Sketch.

Next Smeargle comes out, and uses Sketch; Now, if Sudowood used his Mimic'd Sketch, would he learn Sketch permanently-- and thus be able to Sketch someone else using Overheat later? Is it possible? Probable? Ethical? Your thoughts.

I dunno...
Probably not.

Mimic only lasts the battle, so even if you did have a "real" sketch, it would probably dissapear by the end of the battle.

I believe that Mimic fails when used against Sketch.

EDIT: Sketch also fails when used against Sketch.

Impossible. You cannot use Thief against items in a Secret Base battle either. Tried it much my own chagrin, hoping for an easy way to acquire items without having to use the Emerald cheat.

Pretty clever... I guess they thought about this kind of stuff when they made the game though.

Even though it doesn't work, I wish I had come up with that idea! xD

You cannot Mimic or Sketch the move "Sketch". So I would say, no.

emoBill™ April 15th, 2009 5:11 PM

No, because Mimic is a temporary move and always disappears back into Mimic by the end of the battle. It was a really good idea, though. I had to sit down and think through what you were saying to understand XD

This is very clever....It wouldn't work though because Mimic reverts back to Mimic at the end of the battle...

Sketch cannot mimicked. and as much as i like sudowoodo i can't seem to understand how it would be usefull on it. and what move should we drop? wood hammer? 120 att an NO recoil (otherwise if your sudowoodo has sturdy... but rock head is the way to go on sudowoodo. wood hammer is also physical making it perfect for it)

Anyway. the game can't be so stupid. but if someone can hack the game making it mimicable it would be intresting.
