Anyone have any tips to catching Heatran?

Hey everyone.

I don't know if this is the right place to post this because I'm new and all but does anyone have any tips to catching Heatran on Pearl Version.

Thanks, DeadForest.

Weaken it, put it to sleep, keep using UltraBalls at it...
Thats what I do.

Same as catchin others but still :
Lower HP - your best option would be false swipe but you better lower its defense since its seel
get a non-poison sleeping move. paralysis is also good since it stays. thunder wave would be the way to go. Sleep is x2 and PRLZ is 1.5
Ultra balls give x2 bunos. but since its a cave, dusk balls would be the way to go.

you can also use trickt to give it a fucos sash and then use a super effective move... (Earthquake will cause major damage. one or two hit KO probably)

good luck in catching.

Step 0: Forgot this one. THROW A QUICK BALL! Doesn't work? Continue.
Step 1: Have a pokemon that you know will not kill him in one hit, or be killed by him in one hit. EQ is frowned upon as a killing move since that's what it does.(4x damage, anyone?) Save IMMEDIATELY BEFORE BATTLING HIM - if you have not done this, you need to let him KO your team and then save when you get back to him. Experiment - Which pokemon get him down very low in the red zone? Which moves?
Step 2: Okay, he's in the red zone. Now, put him to sleep OR paralyze him. DO NOT poison him. DO NOT confuse him. Steps 1 and 2 can be done in either order; IE you can paralyze him first and then get him down low.
Step 3: Chuck pokeballs. Ultra, Dusk, Timer, any will do. Patience is necessary. NOT THE MASTERBALL!!
Step 4: After catching him, see that he has a crappy nature and repeat the process. X_X

Heatran rocks.

Will that work? Does trick work if the other pokemon has no item?

I never thought of the trick thing before, but it will work well if you don't care about wasting a focus sash.

If you don't use that, I would use a pokemon that can cause some damage. Get it 2/3 of the way down or until you know you can't hit it again safely, then switch to a pokemon that has false swipe. Breloom's a good pokemon, but it's weak to fire, so watch out. I'd give Breloom one of the berries that helps it resist super effective fire type attacks.

After switching to the false swipe pokemon, use false swipe. Heatran resists false swipe, but be patient, it guarantees it will be at 1HP and you won't accidentally KO. If you false swipe pokemon doesn't have a sleep move, switch pokemon again. Other status conditions will help too if you want to catch a pokemon, but sleep immobilizes them and the catch rate multiplier when frozen or asleep is x2 while paralysis and others are only x1.5 (confusion doesn't count as a status condition). A good pokemon with a sleep inflicting move would be Breloom because it has the 100% accurate spore and false swipe, so it is a great pokemon to catch others. Something else good would be a Milotic with Hypnosis because it can resist Heatrans attacks and is bulky.

Once Heatran is asleep, just chuck ultra balls. If it's been a while, try a timer ball. I think Heatran's in a cave and the background is dark. If it is, dusk balls will work twice as well as ultra ball. If Heatran wakes up, just put it back to sleep. Bring potions and revives just in case it causes you some trouble. And also never disregard the first turn quick ball. You may just get lucky.

Good Luck!

I really recommend Dusk Balls more than any other. It usually only takes me 1-3 balls to work

Yeah, i agree with Kaseo, you can get Heatran usally between 5 Dusk balls or if your lucky a quick ball at the beggining of the battle.

Gymnotide April 16th, 2009 8:49 AM

Quick Balls work just as well as Dusk Balls for the first FOUR turns. Not just the first turn.
On the fifth, it becomes a 3x capture rate.

Emm like i said. but with a quick ball stretegy :
Trick focus sash
use earthquake (one or two times should do)
the sash would be activated. leaving him with 1hp
use quick ball, you have 3 turns left untill quick ball turns to x3 bonus

edit : ha you bolded it. seems people are confused. anyway, each 5 turns timer ball loses x1 of its bonus. meaning after 20 turns, its just like throwing a normal pokeball..

This question has been answered 10 fold but in the future, please use the Q&A thread.
