Has your internal battery died yet?

Which games run dry? What causes it? Can it be prevented? How do you fix it? Sorry, I never heard of internal batteries before, and now I'm worried about all of my games. xD

Limey-chan March 26th, 2009 10:13 AM

Nope, mine's fine. I've clocked up 300 hours on Pokémon Silver and hopefully can continue to clock up a few hundred more *touch wood* :D

World King March 26th, 2009 11:09 AM

The only games whose Internal Batteries can die, are the Gold and Silver cartridges, but only after 6-7 years. Then, it can simply be replaced at specific locations. Since then, there hasn't been any other games that present the same problem. Luckily, my Gold and Silver games stil have a lot of life to give.

Ryuzaki_Lawliet March 26th, 2009 11:23 AM

My sister's gold she has had it since 1999 so it has been like 10 years and she plays it every day!! Yet her cartriges are perfectly fine.

lolwut March 26th, 2009 11:46 AM

I hope it doesn't die because i wont want to try and replace the battery and theres like no possible way for buying another

Amaranthine March 26th, 2009 11:56 AM

My pokemon Silver died after I'd done most of the game, so I wasn't too annoyed. But my Yellow stopped saving properly and deleted the Data... Juuuuuuuuust before the E4. Ironic.

dotKarma March 26th, 2009 1:19 PM

Yes, in both Gold and Crystal, which sucks. Hopefully R4's don't have a battery that will end up dieing on me...

Pizzey teh Moon Unit March 26th, 2009 1:25 PM

My poor Crystal had about 600 hours on it when it died D:

BHwolfgang March 26th, 2009 3:34 PM

Crap. It can do that. D:

Noooo! My Silver!!

AnimeWolfBunny March 26th, 2009 4:07 PM

My Crystal version died about a year ago. I wish I would have thought about just replacing the internal battery before I threw it out. D= So, eventually, I just bought a new one. All is well. Plus I learned a very valuable lesson.

Ryuzaki_Lawliet March 27th, 2009 11:06 AM

My Pokemon Yellow works fine. I was all worried at first but then again, my sister has had hers for 10 years and I take WAY better care of my games then she does, so mine probably has a lot of life left in them. I'm really not sure. Is there any way to tell when your internal battery will die?

Heather March 27th, 2009 5:14 PM

Yes all my GBC games internal batteries have died. But my dad puts in new ones for me so its all good. :D

dc_united March 27th, 2009 5:22 PM

My gold died, but I bought a replacement on Amazon. Crystal is still going strong. All my first gen ones are fine though.

Superbleederrx March 27th, 2009 5:37 PM

if they die you can just replace them yourself.

a friend of mine used a watch battery to fix mine and now it works great.

id advise getting someone who has some experience with electronics to do it though

Katnip March 27th, 2009 6:07 PM

My yellow internal battery died... I was so bummed. I hadn't gotten very far in it, though, so I wasn't too bummed, but still. It's a sad thing.

pokevesh March 27th, 2009 6:21 PM

Anyone have experience in replacing the battery? Can you use super glue to put the tabs back on or is it better to solder them on the new battery? Anyone know how much of a difference a cr2032 battery is compared to cr20205 like how much longer it can last etc?

System! March 27th, 2009 9:31 PM

My Silver game died a couple of years ago. Made me sad.

I ought to replace the battery but I'm too lazy or my dad won't do it.

Sackferth March 29th, 2009 3:24 PM

Luckily my Silver and Crystal are still going strong.
:nervous:*knocks on wood*

Ninja Tree March 29th, 2009 3:25 PM

The wait is killing me. I want them to die so I could hurry and replace battery.

Venasaur001 March 31st, 2009 12:12 PM

No, my eternal battery didn't shut off yet.

Niprop April 3rd, 2009 3:58 PM

On occasion my Crystal will hold saved files for a short period of time (two hours at most), but after that period of time is up, everything is gone...:(

Corvus of the Black Night April 3rd, 2009 4:08 PM

Nope. Glad to say my Silver version is still in prim shape, even though my team fails (as the last time I seriously played through it was when I was 10 XD)

Maelstromk April 3rd, 2009 5:13 PM

yeah I had my first version of silver burn down on me, but I guess it doesn't matter since I run on emulation

BlueShadow April 6th, 2009 7:19 PM

I tried to play my Yellow, Gold, and Silver Version again. When I checked, the internal batteries of my Gold and Yellow version were dead:( but my Silver Version is still working:)

Moemii April 7th, 2009 5:39 AM

Yup. My Silver Version died a couple of years ago. I threw it away.
Apparently there were a lot of problems with the Gold/Silver internal batteries.

Gusxx1 April 7th, 2009 9:08 AM

My leafgreen one has been ruined.... I don't know how to fix it either. I wish i did i read about it everywhere :(

.Ozymandias April 7th, 2009 11:04 AM

All the internal batteries in my games are still working, thankfully! I'm rerunning through Crystal and Yellow, and both are working fine - I assume the others are too. I head you can send them to Nintendo to get fixed, but that could be wrong.

Kokuo April 8th, 2009 11:32 AM

My Silver version died a few years ago but my Gold version still works.

Starom April 9th, 2009 9:37 AM

My Silver version has gone completely :( If I want to play on it now, I have to leave the thing constantly turned on. If I turn it off once, it loses track of everything and if I leave it off, the save data disappears :(

brinazarski April 9th, 2009 9:43 AM

The first Pokemon game I ever got was Gold. And it's dead ;-;

Waaaaaait, Diamond , Pearl, and Platinum have internal batteries? I thought they ran based on the DS clock.

They do run on the DS clock. (Mightily useful when you're trying to catch something that only comes out at morning/day/night. <.<) But they have to save and everything...

23Q April 10th, 2009 10:53 PM

I Never knew the Pokemon Games have internal battries in them?
what are they used for?

La Foudre April 10th, 2009 11:18 PM

Quite sadly, Crystal and Silver are both dead. D: Blue&Gold are still good so far, and I'm not sure about Yellow, didn't try.

muckers April 11th, 2009 7:29 AM

My UK versions of Gold and Silver both died, but I replaced their batteries so they're good to go again. My Japanese versions of Gold and Silver are still going, as is my UK version of Crystal and US version of Silver - though they might give up the ghost quite soon. :S

Haven't checked my UK Red and Yellow, or my Japanese Blue and Green but I assume they're still working.

darkie54325 April 11th, 2009 7:31 AM

Happliy my emerald is good but GBC and RBY re all dead

~*!*~Tatsujin Gosuto~*!*~ April 11th, 2009 11:09 AM

I've just found out today that the internal battery will dry out in GSC and RBGY games, I thought it only occurred in RS games (well for me my Ruby games only)

:t354:TG

øbliteration April 11th, 2009 5:17 PM

My internal battery for my old crystal ran out.

so i went and bought another crystal! and the internal battery works!

yay!

Pink_Marshmello April 11th, 2009 7:41 PM

I've gone through 3 Gold versions and two Yellow versions, but my Silver and Crystal still work, thankfully.

Eureka1 April 11th, 2009 7:54 PM

Would everyone here sell me their old carts?

Because a 30p battery will make them full working again and I could make a huge profit on eBay. :|

Seriously though, it's not that hard to pry your cartridge apart and shove in a new CR2027 or CR2032. On my Gold I didn't even solder it in, I just used tape and it's working great so far.

Pokedra April 11th, 2009 11:07 PM

Mine died ages ago, now I can't play my Gold :(

Eureka1 April 11th, 2009 11:31 PM

http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-replace-the-battery-in-a-pokemon-goldsilve/

Heed my call guys, save the carts!

giradialkia April 12th, 2009 3:19 AM

My Silver died...
Well it was put in a washing machine anyways... But i think it just drained the power from the battery faster than normal.. My gold was working the last time i played it.. But that was months ago. Its most likely dead now. But i have them as ROMs, which is good.

Haz April 12th, 2009 3:54 AM

Nope, my Gol and Yellow r still going strong. I play Gold regually but not my yellow. And thier both pre owned- Gold by my older friend who's now 19 and Yellow by some guy off eBay.

Wyyrlokk April 12th, 2009 5:55 PM

All my internal batteries still work... my oldest game is a Blue edition from 1998 (I think), so you can think what quality it is. And yes, I played this edition excessively, still up to today. I wonder how long this battery will be operating.
I think of buying a new Red or Blue edition on amazon or elsewhere, so that I don´t have to kill that old one.

{Swan} April 12th, 2009 6:01 PM

I bought my Silver copy when it first came out and it's still going strong! I have another one from a friend which is also still running. I guess I'm just lucky, eh?

Missingno.7-4468 April 13th, 2009 12:00 AM

Red:No
Blue:No
Yellow:No
Gold: Yes
Silver: Yes
Crystal:No
My Gold and Silver are so bad that I can barely turn them on.
But other than that, all my games are fine.

Vie April 13th, 2009 12:13 AM

nope...I never had that. though I play a lot. oO

Jarin April 14th, 2009 6:03 AM

My Blue and Crystal's internal batteries have died, but not my Gold. I've had that one for 8 years so far and he's still going and going :P

Silhouette April 14th, 2009 12:39 PM

My Crystal and Gold died, but Silver -- my favorite of GSC -- is still working.

Finnel April 14th, 2009 8:45 PM

I've had my Crystal now for... I don't know, years, got it when it was first released, and the battery hasn't died yet. Even though I play it a lot.

Makes me happy and sad at the same time, happy that it hasn't died yet and sad knowing that it will eventually.

Sapphir April 15th, 2009 12:33 PM

My Red, Gold, and Crystal still all work fine with their original battery.

Guosuto-chan April 15th, 2009 2:41 PM

I find this very interesting. Christmas 1998 I received Blue version. 101 hours logged over 10 years and the battery is still kicking. Sometime in 2001 I bought Silver. After about five years and maybe 50 hours the battery died. I bought a Red version from a friend when I was 12, but the battery in that was dead when I got it. I plan on replacing that soon...

.MurkyBurning. April 15th, 2009 2:46 PM

nope.
my crystal has been doing fine all these years :)

cuplampghosthunt April 22nd, 2009 10:27 PM

My Gold's still going strong afer fifty hours, and none of my game's except silver have run out of battery.

As for Silver? I got a used copy of it for my birthday. The internal battery was already dead.

as2 April 23rd, 2009 10:09 AM

The battery on the Silver I bought late last year has died, but the yellow i got at the same time soldiers on! woo. I wonder how long for! :(

Virtual Chatot April 23rd, 2009 12:06 PM

Gold died when I started it up yesterday :(

xxFrozenFlower April 23rd, 2009 12:36 PM

Man... I haven't checked my Blue in a long time. RBY can really die? =x
As for GSC, I bought them in this order:
Gold, Crystal, and then Silver (I don't know why... XD).

I checked them out like a month ago... Gold is dead, lol, the save file is gone. Crystal is still there, but I played Crystal more than Gold so I'm too afraid to touch it... XP
I actually restarted a game in Silver at that time and started to get really attached to it but the whole internal battery thing frightened me... so I stopped playing it. ^^;;

I don't know where you find those batteries... or who can replace them for me... ): Boo.

.Fenris April 24th, 2009 6:55 PM

Not that I know of.

I stopped playing my Gold riiight when I started hearing about this.

pokerus34 April 24th, 2009 7:04 PM

My first game, Pokemon Yellow, died today... :(

In memory of Pokemon Yellow...

Bought: February 11, 2003
Dried: April 25, 2009

A loving cartridge and a good game...

P.S. = Well, go for Platinum! :)

.:Kanto:. April 27th, 2009 1:25 AM

wow.. someone remade my old thread o_o

anyway.. I've had Silver die on me, and when I bought Gold, the battery was dead! :(

but the nice guys and good ol' Gametraders repaired both of my games for a small fee of $10 per game :)

And my Crystal is still running fine :)

SPEEDIE April 27th, 2009 1:57 AM

Both My Gold and Silver have died
but Yellow and Blue are still working

Dunsparce April 27th, 2009 5:48 AM

My Memory Battery Conditions:
Blue - Working
Yellow - Not Working
Silver - Working
Crystal - Working

I have 2 GBC Gamesharks that each have a Save of my Crystal Data on them, so If My Crystal ever dies, I replace the Battery and upload my Data fromt he Gameshark to the cartridge so I have everything back again XD

Armando The Mexican PokeTrainer April 27th, 2009 12:16 PM

I am amazed that my yellow is still alive (i had it since it came out ^_^)

Silver and Gold are still alive as well ,i've had those since 2003 and i bought them used

Underoos April 27th, 2009 12:33 PM

Silver-Good
Gold-Good
Yellow-Good
Red-Good

And I've had them for a while, too. I'm surprised that they still work.

Rubber Ducky April 28th, 2009 1:38 PM

Silver died, Gold still works, Crystal isn't dead but I can't save for some reason, so it may as well be.

SoulRed12 April 28th, 2009 5:53 PM

My gold, silver, and crystal all refuse to save their data. I don't know if that means the batteries are dead, but I'm bummed cuz I can't play the best generation of pokemon games ever made =/

Cham April 29th, 2009 5:31 PM

Yeah, my internal batteries for G/S/C all died almost 2 years ago. It was weird because they all died within the same couple months even though Crystal came out so much later than the first two versions.

warudo.kun! April 29th, 2009 6:33 PM

Yellow, Blue, Red, Gold, Silver still work. But Crystal will not save. And Crystal is my favorite game too! :C

That's a lie. My emerald's internal battery is dead. "The internal battery has run dry. You can still play the game, but clock-based events will not occur."

lolwut April 29th, 2009 8:49 PM

thats completely untrue, ive had my silver for 10 years and its still running strong and ive played it so much its not even funny

giradialkia May 3rd, 2009 12:41 AM

My Silver is dead. *sad*. Although my Yellow has been going strong for what, 9 years? Also my Gold was working the last time i played. About... 6 or 7 months ago. Crap.
Erk, i'm terrified it'll be dead, so i'll leave it. My dead Silver is still in my drawer. I couldn't throw it away..

Lukar May 11th, 2009 8:33 AM

The last time I saw my copy of Crystal was a couple of years ago, and it worked just fine. :D

Apathetic_Yen May 11th, 2009 10:06 PM

unless it died this past week, nope. I've had it since 02? not sure, but my friend gave it to me after my last silver version crashed cuz I spilled mountain dew on it. Yeah, soda kills...

.Wolfie-kun. May 12th, 2009 7:05 AM

My Silver currently still works...but I think it's starting to die

It asked me to reset the timer when I clicked continue the other night, but when I had the chance to change it, the clock and day were exactly right by default, so I set it and played for a bit, saved and it seems to be ok again.

Are my fears true? Is my fave Pokemon game now beginning to pass away?

Pokemon12345678901 May 12th, 2009 1:33 PM

Yes it has so I'm looking froward for the remakes.

Relvis May 12th, 2009 3:23 PM

My Gold version died out, but my Silver still works perfectly.

Ace_McPhail May 12th, 2009 3:49 PM

My beloved Crystal still SEEMS to be fine. Meh, I dunno
But it's still my fave game ever ^_^

- Ace_McPhail

PlatinumDawnFtw May 12th, 2009 3:52 PM

My first game was Red, it is LONG gone, but it never broke.
I don't have my Gold anymore, but last I saw it (around 4 years ago) it was working fine.
Got my Yellow from a friend a few years ago, it never broke, but I ended up giving it back to her, so I don't have that anymore either.
I re-bought Crystal, used, from Gamestop maybe a year or 2 ago, I still have it and it's running fine.

JeTz May 13th, 2009 12:27 AM

My Crystal died. Damn.

from that onwards i start borrow friend's catridge to play lulz.

Zerrah. May 13th, 2009 3:57 PM

My Silver died a while back, :(
but my Crystal is still in perfect working order. :)

angelsavoir May 13th, 2009 7:13 PM

I own Gold, Silver and Crystal and none of my batteries have died yet :) I guess Im lucky!

Tinhead Bruce May 13th, 2009 9:20 PM

My Silver Version still hasn't died after like 8+ years!

JeTz May 14th, 2009 12:15 AM

Awww... my Crystal =(

Too bad now just wait for HG and SS =)

Alpha Bass May 14th, 2009 12:54 PM

Well, none of my games had had their batterys die....but maybe thats because I dont play my G/S alot.

Apathetic_Yen May 18th, 2009 4:48 PM

hmmm, I do know that spilling Mountain Dew will cause your game to restart, but the one that I have now works fine. I think it's been about 7 or 8 years

Nnoitra Jiruga May 18th, 2009 6:29 PM

I don't really have any old old old games, so this has never happen to me x D

lorelli May 18th, 2009 7:52 PM

My Silver, and both my Crystal versions are dead. (I have no idea why I have two. One might be my brothers.) This makes me severly unhappy because I lent my Gold to a friend, and it works fine. :C

Greeneflower May 21st, 2009 4:24 PM

Blue is working after 2 years ;)

rocky505 May 21st, 2009 8:10 PM

my crystal died which really ticked me off. My first silver died with my cursing lugia. I then bought a silver from gamestop and it and gold havent died.

D: Aw geez, I'm in the EXACT situation you're in. I've just realised my Silver and Crystal are busted yet gold is still going strong but I lent it to a friend too...

Well I've researched how to fix this problem and found a few guides that seem humane enough, I haven't tried fixing mine yet but hopefully it could help here someone out:

By the sounds of it, I think it's best if you get a professional to do this as it sounds potentially disasterous for the game and even your fingers.

bewbs May 26th, 2009 3:38 PM

Red and silver have died. Gold and Crystal work good though. ^_^

lenzxyz May 26th, 2009 4:07 PM

My gold and silver still run perfectly..

Ayselipera May 31st, 2009 7:13 AM

My Gold, Silver, and Crystal all haven't died yet.
Although I haven't played any of them in a long
time.

Marionette May 31st, 2009 7:24 AM

My Silver and Gold have both died now ._.'
And my friends in real life copies have all died too.
It's saddd ;____;

Pokéball May 31st, 2009 8:08 AM

None of my Pokémon games have died yet. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. :P

Miss Soupy May 31st, 2009 8:57 AM

Nope, not yet. My Gold is still working perfectly. c=

Buuut...
I know it's bound to die out pretty soon. Any time, now. I'd go replace the battery right now, but it deletes your data and makes you start over, regardless of if it already died out on you. D;

xxshiny_umbreonXX May 31st, 2009 11:01 AM

NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MY POOR LITTLE HONEY PIES ON CRYSTAL SILVER AND BLUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :sigh: they are all gonna go to the big pokemon center in the sky....that's a good thing though.

Sydian June 2nd, 2009 8:07 AM

I have all six games (RBY & GSC) and all of them are in perfect working order.

My friend just changed the battery in his Silver a week ago, and I'm working on my Crystal. My fingers were torn to shreds before I got the battery out of it.. But my Silver's been good to me since I got it when it came out =].

Denzer June 2nd, 2009 2:08 PM

My Silver died.
I found my Ruby several months ago and when I played it, it was dead D;
My crystal was perfect but I gave it to my friend as a gift. =D
