A Documentation of NA-JP Crystal Differences
Dunsparce here.
I've recently gotten a Japanese Copy of Pokemon Crystal, and I've found small, but Interesting, differences between the North American and Japanese versions(Will add more as time goes on): Cartridge: -The Back of the Cartridge has a picture of Suicune's Crystal-shaped... thing imbedded within the Cartidge Itself Signs: Pokemon Center: NA: Poke JP: *Pokeball Symbol*PC Pokemart: NA: Mart JP: Shop Sprites: -Swimmer (Female): They are giving the player a seductive wink -Fisher: They have a cigarette in their mouth. This is cleary Absent in the NA version -Sage: They have their hands in a praying position -Medium: They are waving a string of beads -Beauty: They had slightly more revealing clothing and are winking like the Female Swimmers -Jynx: The sprite's colours are darker in hue Menus: -The Japanese Version has the status screen split Vertically, rather than horizontally. This makes the screen seem less cluttered Major Differences: -Goldenrod City has a large building in place of where the Pokemon Center is, with "PCC" on the side. This stands for Pokemon Communication Center. In it, there is a GTS-like system where you Plug your GBC into a Cellphone using a special cord, and trade and battle with people around the region of Japan you live in. Stadium 2(Stadium GS in Japan) had a similar system. -In order to receive the Odd Egg from the Day-Care man, you have to aquire an item called "Egg Ticket" and swap it for the Egg. Also, the Egg has a 50% Chance of being Shiny In the Japanese Version while only 12.5% in the English Version. -The Celebi Event is(or at least was) obtainable without cheating devices, though the event is long over. This marks the First Event within a Pokemon game itself, and was succeeded by the Eon Ticket [email protected] in Ruby and Sapphire. |
wow.. nice! keep it up! I've always wanted to know these differences :P
|
you forgot you can't get celebi in the english one, in japanease you can. after you have all badges (dunno what about red) you get the GS ball from oak and then go to kurt, some time later ilex forest would be caught up in bull***t and you go to that shrine of forest guardian to fight celebi.
well.. celebi and the GS ball were planned for english release, as i have cheated to get the GS ball and all text were english, item not removed and everything like it should be. ..you made me want to play crystal again, my lovely shiny rhydon <3 |

-Teleport to PCC Interior -Trigger GS Ball Event (So I could pick up the GS Ball from the Nurse in there) Also, in this thread I was reffering to Differences that people would notice without the help of a cheat device(As the Japanese Crystal Celebi event is long over). |
The Japanese version has a little more backstory in the Ruins of Alph. The appearance of Unown text on the back walls is explained to be a result of the radio waves sent off by the PCC.
|
Also, you have to get an Item called "Egg Ticket" to get the high-shiny ratio Dizzy Punch Baby Egg.
|
I've never knew about the first three. Now as for the 50% of a shiny Pokemon, I wonder, no better yet why would they take that out for the other versions, it just doesn't seem right
:t354:TG |
I found something new:
Female Swimmers (Called Bikini Girls in the Japanese version) had their sprite edited. In the Japanese version, they are giving the player a seductive wink, while in the English Vesions, both of their eyes are open. Quote:

That's pretty interesting. Keep it up! I enjoy reading about the differences.
|
They lowered the odd egg shiny rate to 12.5-ish in the English version I think. So you can shinies get it soft resetting enough.
