911 Wont Answer

So i was at work today. I work at a restaurant near my house busting tables and doing dishes. everything was going smooth, it was the breakfast rush. it was me, a waitress, and my boss was cooking. all of a sudden, the waitress had a stroke. customers were freaking out. we called 911 from the restaurant phone but they didnt answer. we called again, they didnt answer. called again, again no answer. finally someone called it from a cell phone and they got through. the waitress almost died today. her blood pressure dropped INCREDIBLY low and had they been even a second later she would have died.

So, what do you think about this? I'm...well...theres no way to describe my feelings on this matter without using abusive language.

Frequency May 3rd, 2009 2:20 PM

What do I think? I think it's [bad]. I thought 911 was for emergency. Makes you wonder why they dont have an open line or something.
Well, goes to show how bad america is...

PokemonMichael May 3rd, 2009 2:24 PM

Thats.... horrible. Thank god someon had the brains to use a mobile. :O

Frequency May 3rd, 2009 2:29 PM

Oy...well, if that was me, i'd sue the hell out of the 911 phone department.(knowing you can't do that...:/)

BHwolfgang May 3rd, 2009 2:32 PM

Oh my goodness. I wonder why something like this would happen. I mean, daily, someone that is in danger are putting their lives in the arms of these people.

At least the waitress is okay. That's what really counts.

definately....i wasnt worried myself until they told us after she went to the hospital and they told us she was an inch from death...believe it or not an aspirin saved her life....makes me want to take a Beyer right now!

Underoos May 3rd, 2009 2:40 PM

Wow I can't believe they didn't answer =O That really surprises me...but as BH said, it's a good thing that the waitress will be alright and stuff.

That's really horrible.. something similar happened here. It was a thunderstorm and a telephone pole fell down, and there was a HUGE fire about four houses down in the middle of the street. We called 911 3 times and no answers, until the 4th time.. if it was more severe we'd have all been screwed. >=/ For an emergency hotline they're not very much help at times.. makes me wonder who you can really depend on.

Maybe it was something weird with the work phone.. like for example.. is there like a extension thing you have to call?

Like I know for back at my residence, before you call any number you have to dail 9 first.. maybe something like that messed with the phonecall?

txteclipse May 3rd, 2009 3:36 PM

In certain buildings you have to dial a number before 911, like 9-911. Are you sure that wasn't the case?

EDIT: That is the most amazing ninja'ing I've ever experienced.

Haza May 3rd, 2009 4:37 PM

That is horrible and quite scary once you think about the fact that it could be you needing that call.

Ninja Tree May 3rd, 2009 4:41 PM

That's what scares me most about small towns like Paragon.

This^. Some companies you have to dial out on the work phone before you can call. Hopefully the waitress is alright.

terrible... my stepdad had a seizure and i tried calling fomr the home phone but it didnt work either... maybe u have to push a certain # before dialing 911

Murder May 3rd, 2009 5:32 PM

I had something similar. A huge fire broke out, we called 911 like eight times. No firemen came, firemen from the two neighboring towns arrived first. I mean, wow.

But, the waitress is fine, so thats all that really matters.

First, off, that's terrible. I hope there are no permanent effects.

Secondly, at least where I live, whenever you dial a number wrong, say, without a 9, it doesn't ring and not answer, it just gives me a busy signal or something along those lines.

Micro May 3rd, 2009 7:09 PM

That's horrible. The 911 didn't answer? I can't believe it. I wonder why they aren't answering. I think someone should deal with this immediately. If they didn't answer, that waitress could've been dead by now.
I sure hope the she'll be okay.

Spinor May 3rd, 2009 7:20 PM

I suggest you sue the restaurant for not making 911 an immediate line out because no wonder they didn't answer, you have to dial an out number before any number outside the restaurant.

Or if that wasn't the case, I'd get angry at the Police department and sue their butts off... then again, that would mean no butts to save your butts :\...*shot*

But everyone's Ok right? Good. Next Tragedy.

Really? Because mine will ring anyways.. that's strange..

Hmm.. maybe next time just try calling the Operator?

Gymnotide May 3rd, 2009 9:07 PM

Sounds more like it was something wrong with your business phone than with 911, since it worked with the cell.

Don't take too many aspirins, or else you won't be able to undergo emergency surgery and your cuts will take longer to heal.

lol...But yeah. The waitress is first. But suing doesn't solve problems IMO xP

Toblerone May 4th, 2009 5:38 AM

Wow, that's ridiculous! I can't begin to imagine what was going on in the restaraunt when that happened.. That is very shoddy, not being able to get through to 911. I don't think anybody should sue, and at the end of the day, if no - one died it's OK.

.inLOVE May 5th, 2009 6:31 AM

There could have been something wrong, such as a bad connection. I'm sure they would have answered otherwise. I mean, they worked on the other person's phone, right?

pocketst May 5th, 2009 2:10 PM

wow ... just wow I can't even say.

Yeah, but the police or somebody needs to look into this, as well as all the other cases.
