what's the point of Everstone?

i just got everstone and i know it stops evolution of a pokémon, but why would you want that?

Gold95 May 5th, 2009 8:24 PM

Umm.. dunno still a mystery... :p

pokerus34 May 5th, 2009 8:25 PM

If you like the Pokemon (speaking deeply)

There are some benefits of the Everstone...

*Even though they are not evolved yet, they learn moves quickly.

Take a Squirtle for example. It learns Hydro Pump at an early level when it's not a Blastoise yet.

*Or if you just like the Pokemon the way it is (Like my Pichu), you use Everstone.

My opinion, i guess! :)

P.S.

YeahVeryeah May 5th, 2009 9:09 PM

Well, because you want to keep that magikarp the way it is. NOTHING can beat one of those, and it learns flail WAY before Gyarados.

giradialkia May 5th, 2009 10:30 PM

To save our thumbs from pressing B all the time.
XD

Hellohihello May 5th, 2009 10:52 PM

Also, I think if you give an everstone to a ditto, there is a 50% it will have the same nature. Correct me if I am wrong.

ShinjisLover May 6th, 2009 12:20 AM

Well, I have an Ivysaur and I really, really hate Venusaur (besides, I already have one. Go GameShark! XD), so I need an Everstone to stop from pressing B all the time. XD It's easier. =P

.:Kanto:. May 6th, 2009 12:28 AM

The Everstone.. it's my most important item! I love that thing! it saves me pressing B whenever my pokemon is evolving :)

Pokedra May 6th, 2009 1:01 AM

To stop a Pokemon evolving so they can learn a move or for breeding cause you can get the same nature 50% of the time if a parent is holding it ;)

I Laugh at your Misfortune! May 6th, 2009 1:31 AM

If you wanted to train up an eevee, thn turn it into a jolteon, to stop it becoming an umbreon/espeon?

ReyRey-Pyon May 6th, 2009 7:49 AM

So you can finally achieve your goal of wiping out the Elite four with a Magikarp of coarse/hit

and you can't do that if its a gyarados >: and it saves me from pressing B all the time

Miss Soupy May 6th, 2009 7:59 AM

Beating the Elite 4 with a level 100 Squirtle or something would be win. eue

But yeah. Saving your sanity so you don't have to press the B button every level.
...
Except I don't really mind pressing it. lD

processr May 6th, 2009 8:03 AM

I had the 'pleasure' of having to cancel the evolution of my male Kirlia in Platinum eveyr time it gained a level past 30, as I wanted Gallade rather than Gardevoir, and I was nowhere near getting a Dawn Stone. Dx So yeah, it's just a small help to the admittedly rare cases where you don't want a Pokémon to evolve quite yet.

Dragonzord May 6th, 2009 3:34 PM

so u dont have to press b:P

so haunter wont evolve into gengar when u get it from npc, when you get SO excited thinking you'l get gengar, then you get so disapointed because now you have ANOTHER freaking haunter

UUUUGH I HATE EVERSTONES!!!!

BeachBoy May 6th, 2009 5:36 PM

Moved over to General Pokémon Gaming~ Covers more games than just that era.

Everstone? Love it for breeding. Otherwise, no use for it from me. XD

BHwolfgang May 6th, 2009 6:36 PM

It's more useful when one has a boo-boo on his/her thumb and doesn't feel like pressing the B button.

Other than that, I see no use for it.

Fenrir Reki May 6th, 2009 6:40 PM

It's just as its description states, "Keeps your pokemon from evolving." So, I guess you could use it to keep your favorite starter/pokemon that evolves from evolving.

Wulf May 6th, 2009 6:42 PM

Getting me mad when I wanted that Gengar in Pearl.

Yes, if:

1) The Pokemon holding the Everstone is a female
2) The Ditto is holding the Everstone/the other Pokemon is male,

there is a 50% chance that the nature of the Pokemon/Ditto will be passed down to the new baby.

And the other reason for an Everstone still remains solid: to keep Pokemon from evolving (like if you like your pet Magikarp too much, or think Psyduck is just too cute).

BenjiTheKid May 6th, 2009 7:38 PM

As others have stated, for breeding. Still not 100% sure how that works... but I know it has something to do with it.

And for that rare occasion when you actually DON'T want your Pokemon to evolve. I've only used it once. When training an Eevee that I didn't want to evolve into Umbreon or Espeon. It would've grown annoying pressing B all the time.

Micro May 6th, 2009 8:30 PM

Well, some people don't want a certain pokemon to evolve because maybe their first forms can learn moves the fully-evolved form can't or it can learn those moves earlier. Some people don't like to evolve their pokemon because they think it's cute or something.

Everstone's can be used for passing on natures too. If you breed a pokemon with a Ditto, let the Ditto hold an Everstone and their will be a 50% chance of the baby getting the pokemon's nature. This is the same for female pokemon. It won't work if a male pokemon holds the Everstone though. Oh, and if you're breeding a female pokemon with a Ditto, you need to let the Ditto hold the Everstone otherwise, it won't work.

.inLOVE May 7th, 2009 1:23 AM

A lot of times, per-evolved Pokemon learn certain moves faster than their evolutions.

That wasn't until Emerald.

Before that, it just stopped a Pokemon from Evolving when held.

There are some Pokemon that learn different Level-Up moves than their Evolutions. In GSC, it was pretty pointless for that use, as most Pokemon that learned different moves than their Evolutions only could evolve via Stones (Exeggcute, for Example)

R/S Introduced Pokemon like Nincada and Surskit, who had a completely different Movepool than their Evolutions.

Chaostorm May 7th, 2009 8:00 AM

I Like Everstone , its an Important Item for Breeders :D

white lancer May 7th, 2009 9:01 AM

I never saw the point of Everstones...they always just took up a hold item space, so until Emerald came out (when the natures thing was introduced) I usually just mashed the B button whenever I didn't want one to evolve. Didn't bother me, and I usually didn't want to keep them at a low level for long. ;)
