Changes in Movesets

Do you think there will be any decisive changes in movesets of Johto Pokemon in HGSS? For example, maybe a new move for Chikorita so it can better handle itself at the beginning of the games (like how Charmander was given Metal Claw).

Retro Bug May 10th, 2009 2:03 PM

I'm pretty sure they will upgrade the movesets. Because if you look at the movesets back then, the Pokémon only learn about seven/ten moves.

Tyrantrum May 10th, 2009 2:35 PM

Yeah, I'm hoping for an upgraded move set too.
They might add the moves from D/P/Pt to their move set, and maybe a few others.

I hope they make new moves.

ShinjisLover May 10th, 2009 2:39 PM

Well, like in FireRed and LeafGreen, they had basically the Generation III movesets. So I'm assuming that HeartGold and SoulSilver Pokémon will have the same movesets as their Platinum counterparts.

BHwolfgang May 10th, 2009 2:50 PM

Of course. With each new game, Pokémons are introduced to new movesets. Whether they would be of use would be determine by the player.

I wonder if they would let Gen. II Pokémons learn Gen. IV movesets...

"Shadow Lugia" May 10th, 2009 3:14 PM

Probably some changes, and at the very leats some new move tutors.

I'm honestly for anything that gives Typhlosion more Special moves, since that's the main reason it's hard to use.

Jαcκςση May 10th, 2009 3:21 PM

Hopefully they'll give all three starters better movesets.

Omega Saikon May 10th, 2009 5:01 PM

Chikorita definitely needs a moveset update to help itself since it's so weak with gym battles.

Bay May 10th, 2009 5:08 PM

Seeing as with Platinum all Pokemon have the fourth generation moves, most likely the Johto Pokemon will be able to learn fourth geneartion moves in the games, and also like everyone else some new move tutors might be added.

kingofjokers May 10th, 2009 5:09 PM

yeah they probably if they do it will be like new moves you never know

Artemis May 10th, 2009 5:34 PM

I'm pretty sure they'll being adding in the newer generation moves into the game. Most likely they'll stick to how it goes in Platinum, with maybe a few minor add ins to the move sets.

But that's the good part for us Chikorita lovers! :D We get to brag about it. I remember shunning my friends in elementary school because I beat Bugsy with Chikorita and they did with Cyndaquil. XD;

The movesets with get some enhancements and additions, yeah, but I hope they don't go overboard. 8(

True Reign May 10th, 2009 6:54 PM

Hopefully they'll introduce just a few brand new moves that will help several Pokemon in the game.

Espeically Chikorita. <3

Sweet Smoochum May 10th, 2009 7:20 PM

I definitely want to see a Chikorita exclusive move. <3 Same w/ Cyndaquil and Tododile. I don't mind about the movesets; I just want to see the attacks look a little nicer. (Even though Platinum had good attacks, I think they should change the look around a little bit for HGSS.) Maybe have Body Slam do something more? With Fire moves, I want to see the fire coming out of their mouth instead of out of their neck. (This goes with water type attacks as well. With Bubble, make the water Pokemon have a bubble blowing face. As for Chikorita, I want it to move the leaf on its head when it uses Razor Leaf. (Like on the show.)

iTzKaizer May 10th, 2009 7:32 PM

I think they'll change, specially Typhlosion. Really, Eruption at level 57 is BADASS! And that Sp. Attack with Stab is just...OMG. I'd be too easy to beat the game. Maybe they'll erase that move or make it so that Yphlosion learns it at lv 70 or 65...

rocky505 May 10th, 2009 8:24 PM

I'm wanting typhlosion to get a special electric move to handle the water types. Thunderpunch was always on typhlosion sets before D/P. The only special electric move he gets is Hidden Power which is pretty hard to get the right one. Maybe discharge could work?

Åzurε May 10th, 2009 8:36 PM

Huh... Well, although it'd be awesome, I don't think they're getting unique moves... :( I've used a move modifier on Pearl and Platinum, and there aren't any moves I haven't heard of...I could be wrong, but I really doubt they'd make a game with moves that you couldn't use on Platinum.
Chikorita is supposed to be the defensive starter on the game, though... I doubt she'll get many really good offensive moves.
And... Keep Eruption on Ty. :3 I get'im every time. XD

kazuya. May 10th, 2009 8:50 PM

I hope Pidgeot would get Drill Peck - come on, even Piplup learns it!

Otherwise I'm pretty satisfied with the current movelists of Pokemon.

Azonic May 11th, 2009 3:27 AM

Magikarp needs a strong water move!

Venia Silente May 11th, 2009 4:03 PM

Maybe Hydro Pump.

W/R to movelist changes, I would like to see the Spinarak line get better moves, or get earlier the ones it already gets.

Pokemon12345678901 May 29th, 2009 9:58 AM

Go to this webpage and about half way down it will answer your question. (Where it says by leveling up).

http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Chikorita_(Pokémon)

It is a fourth generation game after all.

Artemis May 29th, 2009 10:03 AM

I doubt there will be any changes to the movesets as Platinum really covered most of it that was pretty missed out from Diamond and Pearl. If anything, the move Hypnosis might increase in accuracy again like how it was in Diamond and Pearl, but other than than chance, I doubt a change in movesets for the Pokémon will be altered.

Ryanniny May 29th, 2009 10:31 AM

i think there will definitely be a change in movesets, especially for cyndaquil
it learns smokescreen at lvl 4, so getting it at level 5 would mean it had 3 moves opposed ot chikorita & totodile having 2, along with breaking the tradition of starters starting with 2 moves :).

Artemis May 29th, 2009 10:35 AM

Removing smokescreen might be the most thing they change up for starter wise and they might just have it learn smokescreen not too long after. Other than that, I don't see any other movesets being changed too much.

Logan May 29th, 2009 11:19 AM

I hoping that the three starters can learn there elemental moves, like Blast Burn etc. When they get to like Lv 50
