4th Gen Evolutions in HGSS pre-National Dex?

Do you think we'll be able to get some of the new evolutions introduced in the 4th generation before we obtain the nat dex? For example, Pokemon like Weasel and Yanmega, whose previous forms were introduced in the 2nd Gen.

AJ™ May 10th, 2009 4:25 PM

I hope so. I wouldn't mind kicking ass with Weavile and Mamoswine >D

Lady Gaga May 10th, 2009 4:28 PM

Definatly. I dont care if they do or dont, but it would be weird if like now that Gligar has a evo, that i just didnt evolve when i tried too....ya....

Sublime May 10th, 2009 4:29 PM

They'll be blocked out, more than likely.
FR/LG did that with Gen I Pokemon that had Gen II evolutions.

Niprop May 10th, 2009 4:40 PM

It's actually possible to get swinub to learn Ancient Power in G/S, though mamoswine wasn't around until D/P/PN.

Percy Thrillington May 10th, 2009 4:54 PM

You probably won't be able to evolve anything into a Pokémon created after the second generation until you get the second Dex when you beat the Elite Four or complete an easy challenge. But I'm guessing that if you acquired one from the GTS, the number would come up as a question mark and it wouldn't be registered in the Dex.

There's also the fact that you have to already have a Pokemon seen in your Dex to be able to trade for it in the GTS.

So, if all the Gen III and Gen IV Pokemon appear after the National Dex, then we don't have a problem with blocking the evolutions until then.

Omega Saikon May 10th, 2009 4:58 PM

I doubt that it's going to happen. Like .Sublime said, they blocked out 2nd gen. 'mons in FR/LG.

Well, they weren't completely blocked.
You could evolve them after you got the Ruby and Sapphire stones on the Sevii Islands, iirc.

kingofjokers May 10th, 2009 5:14 PM

well it is gonna wait until the national dex and then it seems hard to evo. some since theres not moss rock or ice rock

Artemis May 10th, 2009 5:16 PM

There's a possibility it'll all be blocked out until after receiving the Nation Dex, but I wouldn't care if they added a few of the 4th Gen Pokémon, but definitely not all.

Retro Bug May 10th, 2009 5:18 PM

Doubtful. As mention before, until you complete that task, I doubt your Pokémon will evolve. I think it would be better off that way, personally.

That still doesn't prevent mamoswine though... Unless they make it impossible to learn Ancient Power by egg move/move re-learner in the game, kind of like where a two bulbasaurs would learn the same moves at different levels between Emerald and Leaf Green.

They could do it like they did in FR/LG with Pokemon like Golbat.
It would say:
"What? ___ is evolving!"
...
"Huh? ___ stopped evolving!"

I'll edit this with a screen of that if I can find one.

EDIT: Here's a link to Serebii showing how FR/LG prevented evolutions like that.

I don't think on my team I'll have any Pokemon past the second generation on my team. It would ruin a remake in my mind.

Penumbra May 10th, 2009 5:32 PM

FR/LG =/= HG/SS

I think they'll add it to the dex.
HG/SS looks way hi-tech and improved, even compared
to platinum, so I think the dex-size could be expanded.
Besides, what's the point of removing pokemon.. I mean,
FR/LG was Gen 3, this is Gen 4. Also, Ruby/Sapphire allowed
the evolution of Golbat, so you never know. I think it's
a 50/50 chance, really. You never know what they'll decide,
But i doubt that "No evolution" is the higher choice.

BHwolfgang May 10th, 2009 5:35 PM

Nintendo would definitely make Gen. IV Pokémons appear the player beats the Elite 4. It happened in FR/LG.

I, however, don't want to see that many Advanced Generation Pokémons to appear in this remake.

FR/LG was technically Gen I. And HG/SS is technically Gen II. RSE allowed the evolution due to it being Gen III and FR/LG stopped it due to it being Gen I.

I'm still pretty sure they'll go with the FR/LG formula of disabling the evolutions until a task is completed.

Astinus May 10th, 2009 5:44 PM

Having the later generation Pokemon appear in Johto before the National Dex is given wouldn't make it feel like a remake. FR/LG is the only previous remake that we have to base some speculation on, and in those game, Gen II and III Pokemon weren't introduced in the storyline until after the National Dex was received.

Even if someone trades over a later generation (III or IV) Pokemon to HG/SS, it will just appear as a ??? for the Pokedex number, and will be unable to evolve.

elratauru May 10th, 2009 5:56 PM

I dont know, I wouldn't be surprised if they incluide them, but I would not bother me.

iTzKaizer May 13th, 2009 1:44 PM

I hope yes, but not too soon. I wouldn't like to pwn all pokemons with Magnezone, Tangrowth or Ambipoms before even the 5th badge. They'll make those moves that make level up some pokemons to be learned after, and that Pokemon that evolves at Mt. Cront, don't evolve or eveolve in a cave after at least the 6th badge (ice path, Victory Road, not Mt. Silver, don't be cruel gamefreak!)

If that were to happen, then...The game wouldn't be right to be called a remake, it would be more of an entirely new Johto. The new Pokémon should only be obtained after the National Dex, or else the game really wouldn't feel right. It would be more new evolution on teams and such,

JP May 13th, 2009 2:05 PM

I think that Pokemon that don't require something special to evolve and that were introduced in later generations could be put within pre-national dex game.

Chances are though, they'll block them off until after you beat the E4 or receive the national dex.

Zelda May 13th, 2009 2:06 PM

I hope they don't have any. Like I said many times, they should leave it for the next generation. It wouldn't feel like a remake if we had new evolutions in it.

Artemis May 13th, 2009 2:07 PM

I strongly think they might stick to the mysterious blocked evolutions like they did in FRLG. It makes sense to do and will keep the game closer to its older originals.
