Do You Swear?

I've Always Wondered.. With The Swearing Filter Here And All, How Many People Here Swear In Their Daily Lives And How Many People Don't?

The Apprentice™ May 15th, 2009 10:11 PM

I do swear occasionally not much tho.

Evilyn May 15th, 2009 10:50 PM

I usually say the 's' word when I accidently hit myself. And at times just for the hell of it.

ShinjisLover May 15th, 2009 10:52 PM

**** yeah!!! XDDD

Er, yeah, I swear. It runs in my family to swear a lot. . O.o

Her May 15th, 2009 10:53 PM

I freely swear, to be truthful. I don't really see the need, but I also find no problem with it.

Donnie May 15th, 2009 10:59 PM

I swear all the time, why, just a couple seconds ago I swore. Y'know, I do it for the lulz.

PokemonMichael May 15th, 2009 11:05 PM

No i dont **** swear. COurse i do. Runs in the family. xD

Ninja Caterpie May 15th, 2009 11:18 PM

I don't try to. But it does come out every now and then.

BHwolfgang May 15th, 2009 11:20 PM

I do it for the laughter and entertainment. XD

Actually, if I was with my friends right now, we would actually have a swearing contest. =)

Alexithymia~ May 16th, 2009 12:03 AM

I swear quite a lot.
If you're making a joke if you add some swearing it's always a bit funnier ;D
I also swear when I'm trying to make a point and it's just not getting across...

LethalTexture May 16th, 2009 12:05 AM

I guess it's because of my social background that I tend to swear alot. Where I come from, it's almost expected that you do. You swear and nobody bats an eyelid, it's fun.

Klippy May 16th, 2009 12:47 AM

Nah, I really don't. When I talk to people from PC on MSN, I cuss a lot.

But IRL, I don't cuss at all. I guess I just see a difference between cussing text-wise and cussing vocally. XD;

Vie May 16th, 2009 12:58 AM

I swear. In 3 different languages. But only in RL and I think not that often anymore.

Cheesymitten May 16th, 2009 3:28 AM

I swear at school, but not in lessons, or maybe in lessons but not as much as break.
At home i'm not allowed to swear, mummy tells me off :(

.inLOVE May 16th, 2009 3:29 AM

Sometimes, if I get mad enough. Which is often.

This. Cursing is like, an instinct. So I do it. A lot. D:
I do have a filter though, so that I don't let something slip when an adult is around. It's just disrespectful.

Dark Azelf May 16th, 2009 4:13 AM

I swear quite a bit when im mad or just messing around with my friend or something. I mean i wont do it in public much since no one really wants to hear it lol.

Captain Fabio May 16th, 2009 4:16 AM

Depending on my mood.
If I am pissed off, I will swear a fair bit.

Also, if I am a little drunk, I seem to say the F***ing word a lot! XD

Percy Thrillington May 16th, 2009 4:19 AM

Used to, then a couple of months ago my French teacher went on a massive rant about people swearing. He said that the only reason people swear isn't to sound funny, or to look cool, or to look mature, it's because they don't know any adjectives other than that word we all know and love. It was on that same day that I decided I'd prove him wrong by using as much adjectives as I could when talking to him, and I've sorta grown outta the habit of using bad language.

OokamiShipper May 16th, 2009 7:37 AM

In some occasions, yes, I will feel compelled to swear. ^^;

devilicious May 16th, 2009 7:47 AM

I swear a lot, but that's common here in Brazil, so yeah.

We have some nice swearing, to be honest.

Amaruuk May 16th, 2009 8:00 AM

I curse like a sailor, though not in front of children or in a business setting, of course. God forbid I accidentally swear when I talk to my dad on the phone.

Graceful May 16th, 2009 8:03 AM

me,i never swear infront of everyone, just if I hit my head on something i mouth it or whisper it

Sammi May 16th, 2009 9:19 AM

I do. I just... do, I suppose. For ages I was against it; it was so bad, characters in my stories that swore would say *icwh* for... well, insert cuss word here. But sometime in my teens, swear words started slipping into my vocabulary. It wouldn't say it's terrible, but there's one word in particular I do like to use often. :/

What happened to the days when I was such a prude about it?

Bulletproof May 16th, 2009 9:30 AM

I swear all the time, and people who don't swear because they think it's 'bad' I have real sympathy for.

there is no problem with it imo, they're just words that have been placed in the english language to make all us people use. and I for one always use them wherever, whenever and however I want, and whether I get in trouble or not doesn't seem to make me care.

Fox♠ May 16th, 2009 10:30 AM

I swear like a trooper irl.

It's just something i've grown up around, it's basic vocabulary to me now.

Pokemoerules May 16th, 2009 12:05 PM

Ya I fiqqin' swear only when i'm pissed off

Amaruuk May 16th, 2009 1:32 PM

Same is true for me, actually. I was completely dead-set against the idea of swearing (especially the f-bomb, I thought it was the most evil thing to say), but slowly through my teen years I got over it, and nowadays, as I said previously, I curse like a sailor. I think that as long as they aren't used at inappropriate times or places, they're really just words. I'm a prude about enough things already.

Yamikarasu May 16th, 2009 1:45 PM

Hehe... I'm a potty mouth. :X

I'm pretty good at not swearing in front of my mom or someone who would be offended by big, bad, naughty words. Around my friends though, we can get pretty vulgar. :D

...censorship is stupid.

Pokeyomom May 16th, 2009 2:17 PM

I try not to indulge in public, because someone spoutin out the F bomb every 2 words is pretty tacky. But as far as the homefront goes, ohhh F yeah.

I really lament the 'gangster' lookin kids who walk around like they are tough stuff cussing every two words. Makes me wanna pop em in the mouth. /end mini rant:D

Cham May 16th, 2009 2:23 PM

I used to swear a bunch and didn't think anything of it, until my non military friends pointed out how much I swear. I've been trying hard to break the habit and I've been doing well over the passed year or so to cuss less and less.

Åzurε May 17th, 2009 7:19 PM

I don't, generally, but it does happen every now and again... never in front of anybody. I'm trying to stop, if only because it could offend someone eventually.

Spearow May 17th, 2009 7:27 PM

I try not to rely on swear words too heavily in daily conversation, just because it's limiting and it can make a person sound unintelligent or even kinda pretentious. Sometimes there's just not any other way to put it, but for the most part I do my best to think of a more specific word before I resort to the vulgar.

When I stub my toe or forget something important, it's a different matter altogether.

Gyro Zeppli May 17th, 2009 7:28 PM

All the time, mang. All the time.

It's like having an accent, I can't control it.

Åzurε May 17th, 2009 7:36 PM

Ah, but you can control it. It's your own head, after all.

Herald Riddler May 17th, 2009 7:40 PM

YEs I swear, but not often and I only do for humor or being sarcastic or joking

Alex May 17th, 2009 7:48 PM

Yes, I do swear both on this site and in real life. It's become a part of my vocabulary which isn't very good, but I also have a friend who hates it so it's fun to do it around him and watch him react. :3

True Reign May 17th, 2009 8:20 PM

I swear when I get a bad grade on a test or when I get hit hard.

It's fun to cuss.

Translator May 17th, 2009 8:24 PM

Well, sometimes I swear and sometimes I don't. :)

Xairmo May 17th, 2009 8:55 PM

**** yeah I do!
In all seriousness, yes I do swear. Not execively, but I swear none the less.

♣Gawain♣ May 17th, 2009 10:39 PM

I don't usually swear, 'cause it'll lessen your reputation. But sometime's and unintentionally, I can't help but swear.

kissing. raindrops May 17th, 2009 10:44 PM

Lol yeah I sure do. I swear in real life. My friends swear a ton too. Some way more than me.

pokerus34 May 18th, 2009 3:24 AM

I SWEAR THAT I DON"T REALLY SWEAR TO SWEAR WHAT TO SWEAR... SO I SWEAR I DON"T SWEAR. I SWEAR I DON"T EVEN KNOW HOW TO SWEAR!

XD- Well really, i don't swear (as of highschool)... I watch what i say... I hate swearing... Swearing always lead me to the wrong and ugly conclusions...

P.S. - Better :) not to swear! :)

Idiot! May 22nd, 2009 7:32 AM

Of course I swear. It's just that I swear in a foreign language so that other people don't know I am swearing.

templekeeper May 22nd, 2009 7:36 AM

No way...if my life depends on needing a colourful word, I'll get a thesaurus. I teach various age groups, and leading double lives is unhealthy. It's better to avoid altogether.

The Red Chain May 22nd, 2009 9:55 AM

Honestly, who doesn't?

With that said, yes I do.

disagreed.

swearing is great! especially since I don't care about what anyone will say to me, it's really rather fun.

any harsh word exists in my dictionary, because to me that's just what they are. they don't offend me.

only bad time to swear is every 2 words... it just then sounds boring and stupid.

s l u g May 22nd, 2009 10:16 AM

Well i dunno but i hate swearing, i kinda find it cheap to use sthat kind of language and i have never sweared ( am being honest ) but on chat's i just put the sign marks like *,@,# e.t.c just for fun, cause lot of my friends do.. and over my place people are always swearing.. a kid in the first grade showed me a finger just because i said him he's cute.. >.<

looks like people love swearing.

Franceschi May 22nd, 2009 10:21 AM

Due to fact I've grown up with three brothers and a mother who is very lax (the same can't be said for my father), it's not surprising I swear.

I swear a lot in real life; although most of the time I don't realise I've done it. Online? Not so much, but that may be because I know the filter is there and I therefore don't bother.

Caelus May 22nd, 2009 11:07 AM

Swearing is a habit of mine that I've been trying to stop for months.
I don't mind using it every once in awhile, but using a lot of swear words in only a short time is what bothers me, so I've been cutting down the swearing.

I don't mind others swearing, just as long as they don't go overboard with it.

ShadowLeader May 22nd, 2009 11:12 AM

i swear...i swear to god all the time...

oh wait...your talking about cussing....
yeah i do...more than most actually.....it been a part of my vocab for quite some years...like since i was around 4 or 5....
Yep...my mom told me around then that i could cuss if i wanted to as long as it wasnt around any adults....so i took that and ran with it...
also....off the topic a little....my sister's first word was dammit....and she used it properly......we even got it on video...i HAVE to find that..

Sweet Candace May 22nd, 2009 11:24 AM

I swear only when I get super angry. When I get like that, I lose my common sense, but I still have some not to go any farther then throwing "scare swears".

Mr.Kirby May 22nd, 2009 11:25 AM

Very, very, v e r y rarely on the internet. Practically never in real life.

I've grown accustom to hearing people curse at public school, I was little private school girl before, so no cursing there. After being around people who swear over every little thing, you realize how stupid it sounds. I've heard some guy curse out a pencil because he broke it. Twice. Now someone tell me that's necessary.

Rogue planet May 22nd, 2009 11:37 AM

It depends on who I am talking to. If I'm talking to my grandmother then it is unlikely. If I'm playing an annoying game of Call of Duty with my friends then I probably will.

Aziza May 22nd, 2009 12:08 PM

If I get angry, I swear a lot.
Someone has actually commented on how much I swear.

Sylphiel May 22nd, 2009 12:39 PM

If I'm angry/upset, then I'm especially prone to doing so - but only if I'm alone or in the company of people who I know won't mind me using some questionable words.

Other than that, I might let a few mild words slip into my speech at times (again, only around people I know won't mind), but that's about the extent of it.

Retro Bug May 22nd, 2009 1:19 PM

I do it all the time. Actually I sometimes don't even realize I'm doing it. But I mostly swear when I'm angry or upset, otherwise I have appropriate language. I only swear around people of my generation anyway.

레트로 May 22nd, 2009 1:22 PM

What the **** is wrong with swearing? Honestly, society today has beefed up the word **** to some sort of taboo.

Well actually no, this only holds true in suburbia. >_>;

I consider swearing to be the same thing as speaking, to be honest.

agreed with this guy. a word is a word, it's not like they can kill somebody.

Yrie May 22nd, 2009 3:06 PM

Occasionally, I suppose, when I've got a good reason to
Though at school, since the teachers have like...language radar, I'll just be like, "BY GOSH AND GOLLY" in place of what I really want to say. Then I get a few weird stares D: Then my friends call me a freak, even though they're joking.

Nnoitra Jiruga May 22nd, 2009 6:29 PM

I do swear. Sort of some influence from mah friends who are guys and happen to swear alot. x D

Snivi May 22nd, 2009 8:23 PM

I do on occasion....like when driving and someone does something stupid.

Gerri Shin May 22nd, 2009 8:25 PM

I try my hardest not to, though if something really irks me or I'm in pain I can't help but fall onto that old habit.

Lana. May 22nd, 2009 8:35 PM

I say 'damn' and the 's' word quite a bit, but I otherwise try to refrain. Hearing the f-bomb every other word in the lunch line makes you tired of hearing it, so you're certainly not going to say it. But I've grown used to it. I have this built-in mindset where I never curse around my parents. I don't say 'freakin,' 'sucks,' 'crap/crud,' nothing. It's just an instinct. I replace damn/crap with dang or darn, sucks with stinks, and freakin' with goshdarn.

... *feels like a prude*

Michii May 22nd, 2009 8:35 PM

The day that I don't swear at all is the day that Piloswine Flu turns out to be Mukubird Flu in disguise.

Sokai May 22nd, 2009 8:40 PM

No.
I hate hearing people curse.
It's so vulgar and unnecessary to hear.
I sometimes use 'hell' or 'damn' when I want to make a point.
The worst I use is 'ass'.
I only seriously curse (meaning, the f-bomb and 's' word) when I'm extremely angered.
So all in all, I just stick with 'heck', 'dang' or 'darn', 'freaking', and 'crap'.

Eucliffe May 22nd, 2009 8:41 PM

Hell yeah =D *shot*

[AGELIMIT]13+ year-olds[/AGELIMIT]

Spoiler:
Although I try to keep it limited. I'm more prone to saying things like "damn", "sh*t", "b*tch", "bastard", "a*s", and, of course "hell". I'll occasionally use the "f-bomb", but only on MSN. Oh, and I'll never use derogatory words (like the ones for male and female genitals or the ever-so-racial word for an African American) no matter what.

And, irl, I'll only limit myself to "damn", "b*tch" (especially when it comes to my slow computer >.>), and "hell". Maybe an occasional "sh*t", but not likely ^^'

I honestly don't like to swear. Pay no mind to my first few words at the top; that was a lie D= I usually do it when I'm mad, though. Or when something good happens XD It's a bad habit, really~

>Feelings< May 22nd, 2009 11:02 PM

Rarely. But lately, it's really taking over my normal way of talking...

white lancer May 22nd, 2009 11:34 PM

I don't really swear, and never in casual conversation. When I start swearing, it's a sign that I'm REALLY pissed off (but that doesn't happen often, and even then, I usually control myself).

Ayano Katagiri May 23rd, 2009 12:30 AM

I try to avoid it when I can, since I personally don't like it when someone else swears - especially when it's for absolutely no reason at all.

Sushi. May 23rd, 2009 6:02 AM

I swear, but not all the time for most days.
I usually swear if I'm upset of some kind of video game. >.<

So true. Why swear if you can use other words?

I never swear. And I even try to correct people when they do. Well, because of the environment I grew up, I only use one swear in my whole life. Then I figured out that it was a swear. (How can I be so ignorant for 12 years!?) I tried to shrug it off, because it's my official trademark. People know me for that, though I think subconsciously it really bothered me because I found myself not swearing anymore.

Ho-Oh May 23rd, 2009 6:43 PM

I type swear words lots online but IRL, especially around family, I'm innocent as far as swearing goes.

TwilightBlade May 23rd, 2009 6:48 PM

Online, I sometimes swear just for the kicks. Offline, I do not swear, which is amazing, as everyone around me does.

Blue_Drifblim May 23rd, 2009 7:00 PM

Nope. Swearing doesn't do anybody any good, simple as that. I see no point in it. Actually, I went to get my hair cut today, and it seems like everybody and their grandmother was cursing nonstop. I mean really; there were children younger than me in there! Don't they have any manners or respect? The whole time I was there I was trying to tune them out. I try not to let that stuff get into my mind and think about it, because what comes in is definitely going to come out.

Master Terrador May 23rd, 2009 7:01 PM

I will...When I'm mad...Or I'm being sarcastic...But I'll only swear at the Appropriate times...I.E I won't swear to my boss or my superiors or the police and Government officials...I will swear when Enraged though...

~*!*~Tatsujin Gosuto~*!*~ May 23rd, 2009 7:01 PM

:t354:TG

nicoleb May 24th, 2009 12:05 AM

Yo, Marill! I'm, like, posting in this thread because you told me to. XD It's an interesting question, though.

I swear like a... some kind of clever swear-pun that I'm not bothered to think of. I swear a lot. Parents and teachers don't seem to care if you don't do it in front of them, and I have an annoying habit of saying, "Don't F'ing (you know what I mean by "F'ing" =P) swear!" whenever an adult I know does swear, like if they hit their foot on something or some such.

I also (irreverent) hate people who say, "Kids shouldn't swear," BTW. I'm not a kid (/18!), but I say that adults and teens should be, if anything, setting an EXAMPLE for children by not swearing, especially not in front of them. If a child swears, it's because they heard it from you (that or you just weren't watching them closely enough and they saw Family Guy or something XD), so, seriously... Being an adult doesn't give you an UBRE swearing license, or something. Equal swearing rights for everyone!

But, uh... Yeah. I do swear, to repeat. Yes. Yes, I do. XD

Gabri May 24th, 2009 2:35 AM

I do, but not that often. I mean, just when I'm talking to friends and that.

Suki May 26th, 2009 7:06 AM

Nah, I don't actually swear IRL because... I dunno, it's impossible for me to actually use swear words within my daily speech ^o^; However, I can use them just for fun or in times of ouchhh.

Wish May 26th, 2009 7:13 AM

I try not to swear as much as possible. I never swear online, however.

There are those few occasions where I get so frustrated and let out a few words in real life, but those are only a few, special occasions. :3

Pechachu May 26th, 2009 8:27 AM

One of the great pleasures in life is swearing, if only for the reaction of that one person who gets upset. To be perfectly honest, I swear, and I love swearing. I only curb myself around small children and the elderly- though in my experience, they can swear better than me sometimes. My dad, for example, is in his 70's now, and every third word in his sentence is f'ing this, and f'ing that. My niece, who is almost 4, picked up quite a few over the years, and isn't shy about telling you where to go when she's upset.
I don't see the point in banning words from your vocabulary, especially ones that can be so positive and descriptive- if used correctly. There are no bad words, just bad feelings.

Tater Tot May 26th, 2009 8:33 AM

When I'm terribly aggravated, my mind goes through a series of language. XD; But I never actually say them unless one slips out, or I have to quote someone else saying it.

nobody I know doesn't swear. if they say they don't, they're clearly lying as everybody uses swear words in their life.
I for one like it. it makes me feel relaxed and shows how much I don't care about them. I'm never going to give up sweaing, as if I did my friends would disappear like that.

I swear infront of anybody except teachers because I simply do not care about people around me and that they'll learn them. using a swear word is like using the word 'rose' (don't ask, it's a random word XD), it's not even bad, just a few letters used to make a word.

I for one like it. it makes me feel relaxed and shows how much I don't care about them. I'm never going to give up sweaing, as if I did my friends would disappear like that.

And here we have the common British teenager whose natural environment is a drab housing estate. Ah, can you hear it's cry? The swear words are present throughout the air, anybody would think that every creature belonging to this species has Tourette's.

That's right kids, swearing makes you instantly cool and popular! What are you waiting for? Start now!

hey I didn't say swearing every 2 seconds was good, that's when it gets out of control and boring, I live among people like that and that is the part of swearing which is wrong.
I'm saying people need to let loose, because it's not that bad if you use it once or twice in a conversation, not every single second.

I don't swear that often but still more than I would like to. I try not to swear around my family but every now and then I do.
