One subtle, but definite change...

Since HGSS will most likely run off the DS's clock (like DPPt), there won't be a function to change the time zone, since you can just do that on the DS itself. That means that you can't trigger phone calls like you could on the Game Boy Color (if anybody recalls this minor glitch). That, in turn, means that it'll be harder to get rematches with trainers, unless they keep the Vs. Seeker.

A bit annoying, since G/S were the first games to refight trainers not in the Elite Four.

Poliwagged May 17th, 2009 12:00 AM

The VS. Seeker made its appearance in the originals' remake, FR/LG, so it may make a return here.

Artemis May 17th, 2009 3:29 AM

Yeah, so either they work around the glitch and still allow trainers to call for a rematch, or they might put in the Vs. Seeker like they did with FRLG and DPPt.

s0nido May 17th, 2009 2:34 PM

They'll probably include the phone, but trainers won't call you for rematches. You'll probably end up using the VS Seekers after all.

Artemis May 17th, 2009 2:57 PM

If they use the VS. Seeker over the phone, then the phone will be changed for use by important events. Though, I strongly think that GameFreak will stick to Phone and keep it like the original.

BHwolfgang May 17th, 2009 3:02 PM

Maybe they could make the Vs. Seeker a function of the Pokégear?

jigglyppuff8 May 17th, 2009 3:13 PM

I just want to mention Emerald's Match Call feature in the Pokenav. It could work like that where all you'd have to do is walk between the boundaries separating routes, other routes, and cities from each other several times to try and find a rematch.

Artemis May 17th, 2009 3:39 PM

I never really liked the match call device, I mean yes it was great, but Vs. Seeker is a lot better to me. Though, it can go either way really with this, but I'm hoping they stick more the how they had it in the original version; just to keep it simple anyway.

Forci Stikane May 17th, 2009 5:04 PM

I honestly see no problem with keeping the original phone system, and would almost prefer it that way. The VS. Seeker required the trainer actually being nearby, and would be wasted if none of the trainers were actually ready to battle again.

To be fair, even if the ability to change the time zone in-game remained, that glitch would still probably be removed.

manga_meijin2 May 17th, 2009 6:22 PM

I tink they should use the VS Seeker. or they could just make it so trainers want a rematch sooner

Spearow May 17th, 2009 6:32 PM

Why can't they just make the Phone=Match Call?

IMO, Match Call is way more reliable and easy to use than VS seeker, but that's just me.

Spearow May 17th, 2009 7:02 PM

Mostly I liked being able to rebattle gym leaders, but yeah.

Alex May 17th, 2009 7:06 PM

Well I think that's fine really. I used to get by fine with wild Pokemon, and besides, the trainers who usually wanted rematches weren't very impressive pokemon trainers..

Psyburn May 18th, 2009 6:29 AM

If they DO put the Vs Seeker back in, they shouldn't screw you by making you walk 100 steps before using it again. :/

Artemis May 18th, 2009 7:21 AM

They put in the recharge steps so you don't continuously battle over and over again, they give a little stand by inbetween them. Also, match call idea isn't so smart, because having to wait to find out when trainers are ready to challenge you kind of got me annoyed. I prefer the Vs. Seeker over it.

I strongly agree. The Vs. Seeker would be more helpful because with match call you'd have to wait until after the 5th gym and then you would have to wait and see who wants to battle you. While the Vs. Seeker can let you battle anytime after it recharges.

Psyburn May 18th, 2009 7:25 AM

You have a reason for everything I find wrong dont you? :P

I dont see the flaw in the factor battling over and over again unless this overloads the game or w/e.

Zelda May 18th, 2009 7:28 AM

Well battling over and over again would be for those people who need some training to get done. Unless of course with the Vs. Seeker, that specific trainer doesn't want to rebattle you again. You could always try a new trainer though.

Aether May 18th, 2009 2:59 PM

Maybe you can occasionally ask for a battle through the call system this time?

Zelda May 18th, 2009 3:01 PM

Well I guess you could call and see if they want to battle or not.

I wouldn't mind having both Match Call and Vs. Seeker though.

have a pokegear rebattle detector

I'm pretty sure that's what the match call is before, but having a feature of it in the pokegear would be pretty cool.

Well, you can certainly 'battle over and over again' when using the Vs. Seeker, but one needs to walk 100 steps. By this, it puts some work into battling trainers.

Gymnotide May 19th, 2009 5:36 PM

The phone just pissed me off.

I DON'T CARE if Picnicker Heather just caught a Clefairy and it's sooooo cute or whatever.
And hell if that's actually her name.

Taemin May 19th, 2009 5:50 PM

If they keep the phone, it probably won't be the real-time that triggers the calls. Siiince that would screw over the feature.. xD; I think if people call you, it'll be triggered the same way the NPC events are. Like, when you walk into a certain area, or leave a certain location. Still, prefer the VS Seeker to the phones, really.. :/ At least they can't send you annoying phone calls with the Seeker.
