PC running slow

Ok...so for some odd reason PC doesn't load very well on my computer. it used to work just fine but now its very slow and many times it wont work at all...can anyone give me an idea of maybe whats wrong and how to fix it?

Virtual Chatot May 17th, 2009 11:14 AM

Server has been having some up and down times, please try to read the announcements before you ask questions like this.

ShadowLeader May 17th, 2009 11:20 AM

ok my bad...i guess someone can go ahead and close this then...ill try to read the announcements more often...but since the site was running so slow i really couldnt get a chance...

Rukario May 17th, 2009 11:38 AM

as of 2 or 3 days ago, you should not be having any issues.. the server is running fine, and PC should be loading quite fast.
If its not, the issue is on your end.. (clear your cache, logout [clear cookies] and log back in) or your ISP's end, i.e. a bad route to our servers..

Still having problems? PM me a tracert or pathping as well as your IP, basic location, and ISP.

ShadowLeader May 17th, 2009 11:41 AM

im sorry man but im not as handy with comps as you are...so i honestly didnt understand much of what you said in your last snetance...could you explain to me what those are?...
and also all of my other sites work just fine and my comp seems to be running correctly..but idk..

Rukario May 17th, 2009 11:42 AM

ok.. first thing to do is clear your browser's cache.. what browser are you using?
http://www.wikihow.com/Clear-Your-Browser%27s-Cache
after that, just log out of PC, close all browsers, log back in.

ShadowLeader May 17th, 2009 11:58 AM

i use chrome
and i did what the thing told me to do...what do i do next?

processr May 17th, 2009 12:00 PM

I'm having problems with PC too. Have tried clearing cache, will PM a tracert.

Heart's Soul May 17th, 2009 12:58 PM

I cleared my cache several times, logged out and logged in, and still, it only loads 30% of the time!

Rukario May 17th, 2009 1:04 PM

ok,

we'll need a trace or pathping (if your on windows) to pokecommunity.com copy/paste me the results in a PM:

in windows do: start > run > cmd >> pathping pokecommunity.com [enter] (let that run, it'll take a while)

in other os's, bring up your command line, and enter traceroute pokecommunity.com

I'll also need to know your IP, city/state/country or location and who your ISP is.

Heart's Soul May 17th, 2009 1:15 PM

Don't you already have the ability to check others' IP adresses?

Also, I don't see why would you need that. And I've an odd version of XP. Can't access CMD.

Rukario May 17th, 2009 1:16 PM

what?

what happens when you do start > run > cmd
?

Giratina ♀ May 17th, 2009 1:21 PM

It's not just PokeCom.

Though it might be a coincidence, another forum I frequent is only showing up a fraction of the time. I think they're both hosted by the same place (if the other forum is PE2K, are they?) so it might just be site issues. :/

Rukario May 17th, 2009 1:23 PM

it could quite possibly be your ISPs as well.. some ISPs have terrible routing to some places.. especially if you are outside of the USA (limited connections, overloaded undersea pipes, etc)

ShadowLeader May 17th, 2009 1:32 PM

i sent the results of the thing but i dont know exactly why you want the rest of the info...
btw my location is Paragon, Indiana USA...i dont mind sharing that info so im gonna go ahead and just tell you here.

Heart's Soul May 17th, 2009 1:36 PM

There is no run option. It goes like this.

I have been encountering the same problems ever since the DDoS attacks, and my ISP has not changed since first joining the forum. I also run Chrome, so I considered that it could have been the browser, but I tried running PC on a different browser and encountered the same problems, so there is probably something wrong with the connection.

I already ran a pathping, and nothing particularly unusual came up aside from some lone lost packets. I will be sending you the results in a Private Message shortly.

Try using the Load option.

Rukario May 17th, 2009 1:43 PM

may be the load one.. is it a text box with both browse and ok button?

mine says:
Quote:

"Type the name of a program, folder, document, or internet resource, and windows will open it for you."

jigglyppuff8 May 17th, 2009 1:43 PM

Tracerts are done to see the paths of routers a packet takes through a network. By sending this information to a site Admin such as Rukario, they can determine where exactly the cause of the problem is. No clue what a pathping does though.

Also, have you tried that load option? Sounds an awful lot like run to me... Also, Google Translate says Запустить = Run.

Heart's Soul May 17th, 2009 1:45 PM

It's also not my computer, actually. I am using my dad's spare... and not the last-resort, cruddy piece of junk.

EDIT: Hm... my 2000-page dictionary says otherwise, and that's in fractured English, I think. Plus, that what I translate it to.

I don't mean to be confrontational, but are you guys arguing over semantics when it's just easier to look at the visual cues? =| Windows XP has icons that, as far as I know, make the standard menu items identifiable in any language. Pop open the start menu, and when you see an icon that looks like what's in the attachment at the end of this post, that's Run.

0m3GA ARS3NAL May 17th, 2009 3:42 PM

Actually, I have incredibly fast internet, and a great computer, and I get this trouble quite often. PC does not load all the time, often hanging, or giving me the "Web page could not be loaded, time out" error... And on multiple systems in my house. Including my PSP... As a matter of fact, I had to refresh my browser just to see this image...

Do you have Vista? It know it has no 'Run' button, but if you bring up the start menu, and type in "Run" in the search bar at the bottom, then hit Enter to search, it'll just pop the window up for you.

Should look like this..

http://i44.*.com/2dvlyk5.png

If that's what you're trying to get to. o.o

You don't even need to do that - typing 'cmd' and hitting Enter is enough.

He states in post #11 that he's got an odd version of XP, so I think the problem lies in the fact that he has his language set to something other than English and can't quite get our instructions to work due to a translation breakdown somewhere along the line. It's not that he doesn't have Run; it's just that he can't recognize it due to being confused by the Russian titles. If he looks at the icon (by matching his start menu icons up with the one I offered in an earlier post) instead of what the words say, he should be able to find it.

My Computer > C: > Windows > System32

and then look for command prompt.exe or cmd.exe

C: could be a different drive letter for you, also you might have to edit folder options to see System32

Rukario May 17th, 2009 6:28 PM

for those of you having timeout or page load issues, not just slow to load, what error (page/screen) do you see exactly?

0m3GA ARS3NAL May 17th, 2009 6:59 PM

I usually see the Timeout page.
But every once in a while I get a "Firefox could not load the page" thing... I'd have to see if it does it again, all I have been getting are timeouts...

Rukario May 17th, 2009 7:07 PM

screenshots would be nice so i can be quite specific to our techs

0m3GA ARS3NAL May 17th, 2009 9:46 PM

It stoped doing it just a few hours ago... if it happens again, I'll screen shot, okies?

This is the error that usually shows up.

Sajuuk May 18th, 2009 8:35 AM

Since this is something happening frequently, might I request that this thread get stickied?

Angela May 19th, 2009 2:02 PM

PC is going so slow at the moment always crashing.... <.<

I mean the pages stops loading and I get this no connection sign.

Rukario May 19th, 2009 2:54 PM

Forci Stikane: that cap looks shopped.. need a non-edited one, during your next error, if possible.

Angela: Are you having connection issues now, today, in the last few mins or hour?

I usually receive an Internet Explorer Cannot Display the webapge. It does it quite frequently too, but maybe when it happens again I'll get the screen shot and let you see it.

Rukario May 19th, 2009 3:24 PM

shouldn't be (or been happening) for the last week and change.. there have been no issues with the server and our network techs can find no faults with the network backbone.

Rukario May 19th, 2009 3:33 PM

so none recently.. like lets say after they cleared that DDoS attack a week or two back?

Azonic May 19th, 2009 3:39 PM

I keep getting them every few pages I go to on PC.

This is the message I'm getting.

http://i40.*.com/xpr2j4.png

Rukario May 19th, 2009 3:46 PM

you getting that right now, or fairly recently cherii? If so, please do a tracert to pokecommunity.com as explained in previous posts, above.

Lana. May 19th, 2009 3:53 PM

I'm getting what Cherii posted. And it's happened several times today, actually. I'm having no problems with other sites; everything's loading quickly except PC.

I'll go back and do a tracert. *goes to look at instructions*

That's what happens to me as well, but for some reason, it's fine. Should be at the posting part now...

Speed May 19th, 2009 4:00 PM

I'm having the same problem that Cherii is having, and I've sent you a tracert a long time ago. Every other site works just fine, except this one. We can't just all have bad internet connections, can we?

Heart's Soul May 19th, 2009 4:06 PM

No, my Internet connection was just fixed entirely and it downloads twice as fast than normal. Even my Wii was upgraded. I think it's vBulletin, I had the same problem once on another forum. But here's the word that we need to remember: once.

Lana. May 19th, 2009 4:07 PM

And all of a sudden PC is running perfectly... just as I'm about to the tracert....

I'll wait and see if it happens again later, and then I'll do the tracert.

Rukario May 19th, 2009 4:09 PM

well I dunno what's up
there isn't any logical reason for you all to be getting these load errors.. the server is running properly, the network is running properly.. it has to be the internet gods must hate you or something cause I sure as heck have no idea why you guys keep getting these errors. :\

send me the traces WHILE you are having connection issues please..

Heart's Soul May 19th, 2009 4:14 PM

Same thing here. PC loads now at 2-14 seconds, like normal... Huh?

Yes, yes it was, PC has been doing it a lot for me, bamm one minute things are fine, then bamm again and I get that error messages...

ShadowLeader May 20th, 2009 6:16 PM

Sweet Jasmine May 21st, 2009 12:46 AM

Predator. May 21st, 2009 6:23 AM

Yeah, same thing happens to me. Times out :o

Angela May 21st, 2009 1:48 PM

I'm not getting timed out now but getting to this thread probably took 5 minutes,,, And don't say it's my computer PE, PE2K PA are all working uber fast.

Now it's like uber slow.

Rukario May 21st, 2009 2:06 PM

apparently some of our ddos'rs are back.. currently hitting us with a bunch of synfloods.. other then that, all is okish. :\

Rukario May 21st, 2009 2:27 PM

Our network security team is currently working on this.. some connections MAY time out or be slow during this process.

Angela May 21st, 2009 3:48 PM

Well I got a database error earlier tonight, could not get on.

Rukario May 21st, 2009 3:55 PM

should be running better for most of you now.. stay tuned for more updates.

DDoS stands for Distributed Denial of Service. It basically does what it sounds like: it prevents people from connecting to the site. To put it simply, they use multiple computers to attack a single source. All of this constant data coming to the server can overload it and prevent it from processing data from legitimate computers that are trying to connect to it.

A synflood is a type of DDoS attack. Whenever you visit a web site, your computer sends whats called a "SYN" packet (synchronize). When the server receives this request, it replies with a "SYN-ACK" packet (acknowledged). After the computer that first sent the SYN request receives this SYN-ACK packet, it's supposed to reply to the server with an ACK packet. In a synflood, the attackers purposely do not send the ACK packet. This causes problems, since the server has already allocated memory for the request.

I put it as simply as I could, but there may still be parts of it that may confuse people. There's probably even more to it than that.

HackChu May 21st, 2009 5:15 PM

Wow,so basicaly people are trying to attack PC?Thats dumb.

Heart's Soul May 21st, 2009 5:44 PM

I couldn't log on due to server problems (as PC put it), but other than that, I had no problems at all since the time it got fixed.
