^ Thread inspired by that. Say what it means to you~

Signomi May 25th, 2009 5:48 AM

...I would always think of plant roots. But since I've started knowing more about the internet, however, I can't think of it without referring back to technological terms.

the usually underground organ that lacks buds or leaves or nodes; absorbs water and mineral salts; usually it anchors the plant to the ground.
Well clearly, that is what it means.

Swift! May 25th, 2009 5:52 AM

It means three things to me and here they are...

And, of course...

Franceschi May 25th, 2009 6:00 AM

What it means to you, Nica. (And somewhat to Scott.)

Percy Thrillington May 25th, 2009 6:04 AM

Whatever my good pal the dictionary says it means.

True Reign May 25th, 2009 7:53 AM

A person's root in history. A family root really.

devilicious May 25th, 2009 7:56 AM

A plant's root.

I don't know why, considering I hate Biology.

I don't get it.

A origin of the family. The one that started it all.

OokamiShipper May 25th, 2009 7:59 AM

The plant root, the root of a word, latin roots, the root of a person...middle, core, origin. I dunno, it could mean alotta things. xD

Suki May 25th, 2009 8:44 AM

Ermm, either connected to plant, family roots or root as in square root lol x_o
Now the word is looking pretty weird to me..

Cold Fusion May 25th, 2009 8:47 AM

A plant root... seen as I've just been doing that in science AGAIN.
Or a square root.

.inLOVE May 25th, 2009 8:54 AM

Roots always reminds me of beginnings for some reason.

Michii May 25th, 2009 11:31 AM

I'll answer the question by quoting what went through my mind when I saw the thread title.

"What new threads do I see? Oh, here's one. What does root mean to you? Hmm, what about this? Oh wait, did Nica make a typo? Does she mean 'What do your roots mean to you?' -thinks of family tree on a white background- My roots... well my Mom and Grandparents... ermm... Italy. -sees tree in head still- Ohh! Maybe she means what do plant roots mean. Kay, so I'll answer it. Wait, that doesn't make sense at all. I'll just click on the thread. -clicks- Ohhh, ok I get it! :'DDD"

I then thought of square roots in math, your hair roots (lol, roots is getting funny to 'say' now. The word is getting weird), and am continuing to think about origins/family history and plant roots treeeees :33.

Alexithymia~ May 25th, 2009 11:33 AM

Roots mean to me.. a boring science lesson made fun by my friends.. who made some roots attack me XD

Roots remind me of the same thing. Upon hearing the word, I usually go for this definition first.

It seems strange that I don't initially think of tree roots.

Aurafire May 25th, 2009 12:03 PM

It reminds me of plants...And the book, which is actually quite a good read.

Logan May 25th, 2009 1:05 PM

This makes me think of my teeth. You know the root of them xD

TwilightBlade May 25th, 2009 1:31 PM

My mom always tells me to remember my roots, so I thought about family origins and whatnot.

You, uh, don't wanna know. Seriously.

As of this morning, I now think of that word a lot differently. 0_0
Used to, I would have thought of the root account on Linux/Unix (computer nerd) or a plant root.

THIRTY-SIX May 25th, 2009 1:54 PM

Mathematics was the first thing that popped in, then hair.

kissing. raindrops May 25th, 2009 4:53 PM

The beginnings of a living creature to me I guess. The start. :x

Nick May 25th, 2009 6:19 PM

I think of the core account of a Mac computer. <3

Gerri Shin May 25th, 2009 6:28 PM

Root ≥ Administrator. The Root user is the base user with access to all files, folders, and programs on the system. A seldom used account that accesses the main programs needed to run the system from start up.

jigglyppuff8 May 25th, 2009 7:10 PM

Root Beer. Best beverage ever.

Gummy May 25th, 2009 7:28 PM

Ayano Katagiri May 25th, 2009 11:57 PM

Square roots, tree roots and the origin of things are what popped into my mind.

Vie May 26th, 2009 4:17 AM

It usually reminded me of my dvd player. he says root in the menu. but now that you explained me what root means to aussies..... '>.>

Cherrim May 27th, 2009 3:52 AM

Square root for me. 8) Closely followed by tech/computer terms.

Honestly plant roots would likely be the last definition I come up with.

ShadowLeader May 27th, 2009 11:33 AM

idk about the rest of you...but when i hear the word root it makes me think of root beer...and root beer makes me think of beer...and beer makes me think of sleeping...g'night:Dzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

AtomicoExploda May 27th, 2009 3:01 PM

Uh, plant roots, obviously. Well, thats the first thing that comes to mind anyway.

Pass!on May 27th, 2009 3:18 PM

Heritage and tree roots. <3

Yrie May 28th, 2009 6:09 AM

To me it has always either meant the roots of a plant, or the beginning of something, such as the root of a problem or something similar.

Sweet Jasmine May 28th, 2009 6:16 AM

Roots for me is like just a people's life
Because when life starts.. The roots is born also
When you resting.. Roots are resting also
When you are eating.. Roots are eating also..

~*!*~Tatsujin Gosuto~*!*~ May 29th, 2009 2:55 PM

Root of the hair
Root of the tooth
Root of the trees
Root Beer
Root of the problem
