Pokemon Origins

The Legend

Long ago, there existed a Pokemon that had control over time, space, and the dimensions. This creature enjoyed wreaking havoc and abused its powers to such an extent that it became known as the Bringer of Chaos. Accordingly, there existed another Pokemon to counterbalance its power. This Pokemon, the Controller of Fate, could guide an individual whose destiny had been distorted by the Chaos Pokemon back down their intended path.

For many ages, these two Pokemon struggled to gain an edge over one another. Whenever one side appeared to be at an advantage, the other would increase its efforts tenfold, thereby tipping the scale back in its own favor. Eventually, however, it was the Chaos Pokemon that proved triumphant. The Controller of Fate became overwhelmed by the sheer number of impeded destinies, and was thereby forced to concede defeat.

At this point, the Original One had no choice but to step in. Throughout the ages, the Original One had observed the struggle between the Bringer of Chaos and the Controller of Fate, but as long as the balance was maintained, the Original One could not interfere. Without the Controller of Fate, however, it became clear to the Original One that this one being could not be allowed so much power. So, the Original One split the Bringer of Chaos into three, dividing its abilities evenly amongst them. In this way, instead of one being having command over time, space, and the dimensions, each of the three would be allowed control of just one.

The Story
(Part One)

You play as either Logan or Natalia. Several weeks prior to the start of the game, you were found washed up on the shores of Taha Island, unconscious. When you finally came to, it became clear that you knew nothing about yourself, aside from your name, and had absolutely no idea how you had ended up on that island. The one who'd found you, a young woman by the name of Kaiya, owner of the local Pokemart, decided to allow you to stay with her for the time being, provided that you earn your keep by working at her store.

According to Kaiya, the inhabitants of Taha and its neighboring island Adia seldom ventured to the mainland, due to the numerous odd and unexplainable occurances as of late. For a while, you are content to heed her warning and stay within the boundaries of the two islands, but eventually, you become curious...

Following a chain of events in which you have your first encounter with a member of the Descendants, obtain an egg, and acquire a Pokemon from Professor Laurel of Adia Island, you finally manage to catch a boat to the mainland. Hovak, as you will soon discover, is a region of no straight paths and a great many roadblocks. Most of the towns you encounter will be experiencing a problem of some sort, and in order to progress, you must solve it. With each completed puzzle, you will regain a fragment of your memory.

Not everyone will appreciate your efforts. There will be those that try to hinder your progression, and help can come in many unexpected forms. Just be sure never to forget that in Hovak, things are not always as they seem!

The Setting

Hovak (hoh-vahk): A strange region with no gyms or Pokemon League. Many seemingly impossible things occur here, and you must restore balance in order to regain your memory and return home. Unrelated to the main series.

Valoh (va-loh): A region that has remained largely unchanged for many years, though there are those who would like to change that. Here, the truth shall be revealed...Set during the events of Platinum.

A pretty good story... much better than a lot of the stuff I've read recently. I just have one question: what will your region look like? Will it be tropical, such as in (poor) Malachite? Or arctic, like no pokemon game yet made?

Even if other people ignore this, I believe in you!

Tsukiyo May 27th, 2009 2:54 PM

Aww, thank you...^.^!

I actually didn't reveal much of the story, even as far as Part One goes. I don't really want to reveal anything about Part Two until the game has been released, as that would, in my opinion, spoil too much of Part One. There are a lot of twists and turns within this game's plot, and you (that is, the character) end up discovering many things that you hadn't known even prior to losing you memory...

As for your question, the region isn't made up of just one climate. I tend to think of the regions sort of like small countries and, as such, it will be made up of several different climates.

By the by, I'd be willing to give you more details regarding the plot via PM, if you'd like...

Bards Sword May 28th, 2009 2:58 PM

Wow. I really like this game. The beginning is a bit unorthodox, but that's why I like it. I would really like to help, but all I can do is write scripts (physical ones with lines, not coding). So I wish you luck. Keep it up!

Tsukiyo May 28th, 2009 5:27 PM

I'm glad what I've revealed thus far appeals to you, and thanks a ton for the luck! Be sure to keep checking back for updates...^^

Bards Sword May 28th, 2009 5:37 PM

If you could get a banner up, please do. I'd love to show my support.

Tsukiyo May 28th, 2009 5:45 PM

You're welcome to use the one in my sig, but I'm guessing you'll want something a bit smaller...xDD;

I'll try and get one of those userbars or some such up.

mvidmaster June 5th, 2009 10:04 PM

So where is all your stuff? Are there some pokemon designs I can look at?

Tsukiyo June 6th, 2009 1:13 PM

One of the starters (fire, to be specific) is displayed in my signature; I'll have the other two up in the very near future.

To be honest, I have no intention of revealing all of the new Pokemon, but I may put up a couple of others (aside from the starters, that is).

riolu's June 6th, 2009 1:24 PM

spritist plox.

lol can i be a spriter? i have quite the experience, and i need a hobby...

Tsukiyo June 6th, 2009 1:33 PM

What are you interested in spriting? Pokemon, trainers, OWs...xD?
Have you got any examples?

Sora's Nobody June 6th, 2009 4:54 PM

This actually sounds really cool, and theres alot of features

riolu's June 7th, 2009 11:20 AM

remove all spaces

i can sprite anything you'll need.

Tsukiyo June 7th, 2009 1:31 PM

TheTotodileEmperor555 - Thank you...^^
Putting together the rest of the team is going to prove a lot easier than finding scripters for all of that, I'm sure. But, it'll be worth it in the end. I've got all of the details planned out, and I really think you guys will like what I've come up with. By the by, I'm willing to expand upon any of the aforementioned features, if anyone is interested!

riolu's - Hmm...Well, other than the Flannery sprite (which I'm not really sure about), your example doesn't really show me anything but a recolor and a couple of reposes (pixel overs?). As either the Pokemon or Character Spritist, you'd need to be able to do scratches (although, with the characters, you may be able to get away with heavy edits).
Also, you didn't really need to add the spaces to the link...o.o;

jpeg sort of messed it up..
i did the other one a while ago, i didnt expect a good responce.

Tsukiyo June 7th, 2009 6:47 PM

Your anatomy could definitely use some work...XP
Ah...to be honest, I don't think your style is quite what I'm looking for.

bao2god June 11th, 2009 6:16 AM

ha that stater looks hella cool

Tsukiyo June 11th, 2009 8:05 PM

Thanks...xD!
I have my amazing artist and colorist to thank.

Wait 'till you see the other two.

shadowbmz June 17th, 2009 11:05 AM

your features sound very promising
"Redesigned Fishing System
Redesigned Gym System
Tournament-Style Pokemon League"
really caught my attention especially the tournament Pokemon League
Good Luck!

Tsukiyo June 17th, 2009 1:15 PM

Tournament-style is the way the games were meant to be, in my opinion...XP
It's a bit more challenging if you don't know what you'll be up against going in; the Elite Four are, basically, improved Gym Leaders (aside from the Champion), which makes it all too easy to strategize beforehand.

I'm a bit disappointed that HG and SS incorporated basically the entirety of what I had in mind for the 'Follow Me!' system. Picking up items, activating events...I doubt anyone will believe me now, but I'm certainly wishing I hadn't delayed in posting this thread...xDD;

Ah, well. It'll be interesting to see how the official games handle it.

Birdybot June 21st, 2009 10:09 AM

Wow, this looks like the most amazing game ever! I'd be honoured to help with some sort of Pokémon spriting job!

Tsukiyo June 21st, 2009 11:59 AM

Aww, thank you...xDD!
Do you happen to have any examples?

Birdybot June 23rd, 2009 7:09 AM

Ya, I'll scavenge a few up and stick them together with superglue...

OK, if you don't like it, I'd be fine doing something else, I guess. Here they is;
http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn250/BirdyBot1000/fakemon-33.png

Bards Sword June 23rd, 2009 8:11 AM

As I said earlier, I would really like to help, but all I do is plot (writing lines, developing characters, etc.) If you need any of that, let me know.

Pokestick, good times. June 23rd, 2009 12:38 PM

wow... I can't believe I haven't heard about this thing before... From what I've seen, Tsukiyo, This could be one of the greatest fan-made games ever! It could be epic! Although... Have you made any of those things to work yet, 'cause otherways it would just be empty promises...
What are you using? Rpg Maker XP? That's a great program, I would use it if I could get the installment to work (Oops offtopic sorry)...
I'm usually not that interested in Fakémon, but somehow, these seem pretty promising... That starter is really well made ^^.
All the other features... I must say cheeze... I don't know what you say... If you get'em workin', that is... I'd love to see a screenie when you're advancin'...
Wish I could help... But I'm all stuck in Rom-hacking...
Remember what I said... Yaknow... Epic.
Yea, Keep up the good work (nothin' wrong with your imagination^^)!

Oh, BTW, the three chaos-bringers, Giratina, Dialga and Palkia, huh? Great way of seein' it!

Tsukiyo June 24th, 2009 9:03 AM

Birdybot - Hmm...Unfortunately, not quite what I'm looking for. I will say, though, that in order to be a Pokemon spritist, you'd most likely have to be very proficient with scratches, specifically. What else were you interested in?

Bards Sword - Thanks a ton for the offer, but I've actually got the story and character bits covered...^^

pokestick - Wow...o.o!
I'm flattered that you think so highly of the game thus far!
Programming...scripting is not really my forte, which is why I'm looking to bring one (or a few) onto the team. I am more than willing to search until I have found scripters both willing and able to produce what I have laid out, so rest assured that I am not simply tossing ideas into the air.

I'm leaning heavily toward using RPG Maker XP. My only real problem with it is that its what everyone else seems to be using as well, but it's still probably what I'll end up going with.

You have my amazing artist and colorist to thank for that. The colorist in particular really brought Aevisk to life, and I'm looking forward to revealing the others!

Cheeze...xD?
I've not heard that expression before, but I'm going to assume it's a good thing...XP

Thanks again!
And, by the by, Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina aren't really chaos bringers by themselves. The being that was referred to as such had a combination of all of their powers, and abused them immensely...

Birdybot June 24th, 2009 7:23 PM

Yeah, I thought you might not accept my sprites, they're not the same style as the originals. I'd be happy to do a whole bunch of other things, though. I could do testing, or develop the trainers or Pokémon ideas, I guess. Or make shinies, or whatever. Just ask, I'll see if I can do it. :)

Tsukiyo June 27th, 2009 9:10 AM

Hmm...Well, we're a long ways off as far as needing beta testers goes, but that's certainly something you'd be able to do. I've got the characters and Pokemon pretty much covered, though.

As for shinies...we shall see.

Thanks again for offering to help out!

Sheogorath June 27th, 2009 9:19 PM

The game looks amazing, but I think you should rename it, as there's already someone working on a game called Pokemon Origin.

Tsukiyo June 28th, 2009 12:23 AM

Thank you...^^
I had no idea that there was another game by the same name (well, sans 's') until after I decided upon 'Origins'. Actually, I tossed around several different possible titles, but the instant that name popped into my head, I knew I wouldn't be able to come up with another that suited it even half as well.

We'll see which ours stands out in people's minds...XP

Pokestick, good times. July 11th, 2009 6:38 AM

Hey again! How's things goin'?

Tsukiyo July 24th, 2009 5:41 AM

Forgive me for the extremely late reply...x.x;;
Progress has slowed down a bit due in part to my concept artist vanishing, and partially due to the fact that I've not been able to fill the other positions as of yet.

Pokestick, good times. August 21st, 2009 4:24 PM

Well that's sad... I won't be abe to help, but I'll be a happy fan instead! (I'd add the banner if I only found the mysterious way to add more than one pic to the sig -_-)

AkaneKuro August 22nd, 2009 6:58 AM

Hm. This seems pretty good. Oh yeah, nice story!

Tsukiyo October 21st, 2009 11:29 PM

Thank you, AkaneKuro...^^
Better late than never...right?

On another note, several of the once-filled positions have been reopened, including Pokemon Spritist, Pokemon Concept Artist, and Item Spritist. Due to the lack of help, production has all but completely halted, so please, if anyone has any interest at all in becoming part of this project, let me know!

deeelove December 13th, 2009 7:42 PM

yea this sounds and looks great so far. good luck with it!

PS I can make some more userbars if you would like. just PM me if your interested!:)

Tsukiyo January 15th, 2010 10:27 PM

Ack! Please forgive me for the exceedingly late reply; I wouldn't have thought that anyone would find this thread...o.o

Thanks a ton for the luck! Just to let everyone know, the project isn't dead, but it also isn't going anywhere fast without any help...*hinthint**nudgenudge*

In any case, I would most certainly be interested in some userbars. However, at the moment, you wouldn't really have much to work with...>.o;;

Tertle January 20th, 2010 8:28 PM

From the look of things this could be a really awesome game!

If you're going with RPG Maker XP, I'd be very glad to help out with the scripting side of things.
I don't really have any examples of my prowess, as I've only recently started learning Ruby, but it's not too difficult so far. In fact I could probably do a few of those features you mentioned, even at my low level of skill.

Tsukiyo January 21st, 2010 9:33 PM

Why, thank you...XP

That'd be fantastic!
Not many people have expressed interest for the scripting postion, sadly...>.o;

Which features did you think you'd be able to help out with?
Also, I'm assuming you have experience with other scripting languages?

Tertle January 21st, 2010 10:54 PM

Well the only ones that could be a real problem are the redesigned gym and fishing system, maybe even the tournament-style Pokemon league (I've an inkling on how this may work, but only time will tell)
I know there are tutorials for a few of the features floating around the web (bookmarked a couple of 'em today, in fact) so things like the "follow me" script and the banking system--which I hadn't a clue on how to implement--should be relatively painless. I can figure out the rest of the features.

I have a tiny bit of experience with C# and that's about it as far as knowing other languages.

Tsukiyo January 22nd, 2010 11:45 PM

The "Follow Me" feature will be a whole lot easier to implement now that one of the official games includes something similar. I did not, however, know that there was a script floating around with a banking feature.

You seem pretty confident for someone who doesn't have much experience, but I'm willing to give you a shot...^^

Tertle January 25th, 2010 6:19 PM

Thanks a lot! I'll get started ASAP.

Gigatom~ January 26th, 2010 5:32 AM

Great Game. I really like your Idea with Knocking. XD
Keep it up !

Gigatom~

Tsukiyo January 27th, 2010 1:39 AM

Thanks a lot...^^

Ah, yes. You've got to admit, the idea of just randomly waltzing into someone's house without even so much as announcing yourself and yet the owners don't pay you the slightest bit of attention is a bit ridiculous.

Chipdachimchar February 12th, 2010 11:16 AM

Hey id happy to be a spriter if you want to see my scratches look at my thread

Masa'il February 12th, 2010 10:00 PM

The name Rebecca is already applied to three different cannon characters, did you know?

Anyway, you did get my notes on deviantART, didn't you? My notes system seems to be glitchier than most, if you didn't I can link you to examples from here.

GalacticWarriorX February 13th, 2010 2:38 PM

By concept artist, did you mean you give me the idea, and I draw it? I'm pretty good, so if the spot's still open, and you like my style, than, I'll be happy to join. I saw how you wanted examples, so to save time, go to<<deviantwatcher1.deviantart.com>>. Minus the arrows of course. Oh, and by concept artist, I meant the Pokemon artist, not the trainer one.

Tsukiyo February 15th, 2010 10:35 PM

chipdachimcha - Thanks a lot for your interest, but your style isn't quite what I'm looking for.

Masa'il - Actually, I did not know that. It is not surprising, though, considering the vast amount of characters that appear in the over 600 episodes of the series...x.x;
Having looked it up, though, I see that Rebecca was a fairly important character in one of the movies. Had she just been a random trainer that appeared in one of the episodes, it wouldn't have been that big of a deal. However, as that is not the case, I'll change her name...Not that the player can't change it, anyhow.

Thanks for pointing it out...^^
Also, what is your username on dA?

GalacticWarriorX
- Yes, that is what I meant, although I'm not adverse to including some of the artist(s) designs as well.
At the moment, though, the Fakemon concept artist position is pretty much set. But, I definitely appreciate the offer!

GalacticWarriorX February 16th, 2010 7:15 AM

Oh, well, that's okay! :)

That's okay. Well, good luck with the project! :)

Tsukiyo February 16th, 2010 5:00 PM

Thanks for the luck!
I need it, apparently...x.x;;

Chipdachimchar February 17th, 2010 8:47 AM

meh doesnt matter but i was wondering if you know anyone who can help me make black amethyst

GalacticWarriorX February 17th, 2010 12:36 PM

@ chipdachimcha: depends, what do you need help on, I can be a concept artist for Pokemon, and I'm SORTOF good with people-drawing...

EDIT: I realize this is kinda spamming the thread. So chipdachimcha, reply back with a personal message.

tnguye3 April 14th, 2010 1:25 PM

After reading the story, I'd love to join and help out! I'm pretty good at drawing, so I could help with Pokemon concept design. ^_^

Tsukiyo April 15th, 2010 8:20 PM

Would you mind showing me some examples...^^?

EDIT: Oh, actually, I just saw that you'd uploaded some to your album on here. I wish the images were a bit larger, but I quite like your designs nonetheless. It'd be great to have you on the team!

tnguye3 April 16th, 2010 2:43 PM

Well, I tried to post some designs earlier, however I needed 15 posts if I was to post URLs etc.
Anyways, I uploaded a couple Pokemon designs in my album, but it automatically gets resized, anyways, now I have 15 posts so here's a couple I recently drew. Hope ya like them! :P

Name: Glacian/Leviathan (I'm not really good at making names)
http://img412.imageshack.us/img412/268/pkmnconceptglacian.jpg
Type: Water/Ice

Name: Chaotrax (The Bringer of Chaos!!! xD)
Type: Steel/Dark

Nessi(Water)---[Evolves]--->Lochness(Water/Ice)---[Evolves]--->Leviathan(Water/Ice)
http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/4936/pokemonconcept1.jpg

Well, I hope you like the designs! ^_^
Anyways, yeah, I'd like to be in the team as a Pokemon Concept Art designer! :D

Tsukiyo August 21st, 2010 9:27 AM

Just wanted to let you guys know that this project is NOT dead! I did have to put it on hold for a while due to that pesky little thing some like to call 'real life', but now we're back in action!

...Well, as much as we could be, considering that I've still yet to put a complete team together.

Which means, of course, that we are RECRUITING!
If anyone is interested, post or feel free to PM me. Be sure to include examples of your work!

tomatoman August 21st, 2010 10:21 AM

I like this idea; Im a pretty good artist and spriter,
heres some of my work:

Do you happen to have anymore concept art examples?

tnguye3 August 21st, 2010 10:39 AM

Oh, the project's back, count me in! ^_^
I'd like to still be the designer. ^^

Tsukiyo August 21st, 2010 10:49 AM

Oh, I wasn't sure if you'd still be interested.
Glad to have you on the team...^^

I'll PM you.

NovaStar August 21st, 2010 12:51 PM

This sounds interesting (The main male character even has the same name as me). Well if I'm not too busy with spriting for Pokemon Malachite I guess I can help out with trainers and pokemon's backsprites.
Here's some of my work from Malachite.

tomatoman and NovaStar - Thank you both very much for offering to help out, but I'm not sure that your work is quite what I'm looking for.

NovaStar August 21st, 2010 5:17 PM

Alright it's all good, I'll still keep up with the production and all that. Good luck with the game.

Thanks a ton for the luck!

As I'm sure you guys can probably tell, I've hit a lot of roadblocks with this game. I'm starting to assume that there's some sort of loop I'm obviously not a part of, else the other teams have a secret that their not too keen on sharing.
(It's a conspiracy, I swear! AAAAAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!)

But! That does not mean that I won't come up with my own solution. I'm having great difficulty putting a reliable team together, but I AM still looking. I have high hopes for this project, and therefor no intention of letting it vanish into oblivion without even so much as a working demo.

I WILL keep working at this until Origins has earned itself a spot in The Showcase. In the meantime, though, I am recruiting once again.

I think your biggest problem is that you're taking on too much at once, while at the same time relying on other people to pick up your slack! I really love your concept and your ideas for this game, but as the developer, you have got to take responsibility for the majority of what goes on. That means especially coding! Projects without a coder tend to flounder and then die, so I highly recommend you learn a bit of RGSS yourself and then ask more expert coders for help with your more advanced scripts.

As for fakemon, you've got a pretty good concept artist here, looks like! You're short a spriter, though, which might be the most important thing for a fangame. Look all over, and be willing to look a bit lower and more obscure; many people have talents that are waiting to be discovered. Ask around, especially on Deviantart. And correspond frequently with all of your team members (using instant messenger to communicate is better than PM/VM/thread posts, trust me).

Really, what it takes is dedication, direction, and inspiration! You seem pretty inspired and dedicated, so it's up to you to take it where it needs to go.

At present, I'm more focused on the 'skeleton' of the project. That is to say that I am actively searching for concept artists and spritists rather than directing the majority of my attention at locating a scripter. My programming knowledge is minimal at best, and only in the Python language. While it certainly wouldn't hurt to learn a bit of coding myself, I will undoubtedly have to bring someone on board for the more difficult scripts, as you mentioned. However, I am not focused primarily on that just yet because I figure it'll much more likely to attract the attention of a skilled and dedicated programmer if they've already got something to work with.

Perhaps, though, it wouldn't be a bad idea to at least start setting up the basic structure of the game, adding in the sprites/tiles/etc. as they become available.

The concept artist responsible for the drawing in my signature, which is what I assume you're referring to, quit due to lack of time after just a few sketches. The colorist, however, is still around, so that's certainly a plus.

DeviantART is where I do the majority of my recruiting, and I always request an IMer for contact. However, I plan on setting up a private forum so that all of the team members can discuss the project together, rather than me being the only link between them.

In any case, I certainly appreciate the advice, and I'm glad the concept appeals to you!

On another note, the trainer sprite in your signature is fantastic. Did you create it?

This is nice. I just got one question, Controller of Fate, what is it? And I'll be happy to help you!

Tsukiyo February 20th, 2011 9:10 PM

Hmm...I'm not entirely sure I understand the question.
Also, in what way would you like to help?
