Has this ever happened to you?
My name is Dred, this is my first post, but I'll be here often. I hope you get some enjoyment out of this.
I decided that I wanted to make a Weavile. Even though I lacked a ditto, it was ok. I just caught me two Sneasels and went through the whole process. Eventually the beautiful jolly natured Sneasel was born! After putting all of my EVs where I liked them, (Without the power items QQ) I took him to the elite four for training. Now at level 70, I wish that I had gotten pursuit instead of either ice shard or night slash. No big deal...I'll go grab pursuit real quick...let's see... maybe a TM? ...searching... !!! Only through breeding?? !!! So After everything I get to go back and re-breed ice punch and pursuit back on him with a smeargle and start the training over. Luckily this time I have my power items. Just a pain to see that the move I want is only available through breeding, and my so thought "perfect" weavile was destined to be a failure the whole time :( It'll happen more than once I'm sure. |
I don't recall if it has happened to me but you sure want to check out the egg moves first, before training the pokemon you want for your team. That way you can plan beforehand what moves you want/need for it .

Most people know what moveset will work best with their Pokemon. I use Weavile, and I never had that problem. The easiest way to get Ice Punch is through a Breeding Chain, unless you are on Platinum.
The BC that I used is this one: Hitmonchan + Buneary = Buneary w/Ice Punch Buneary + Sneasel = Sneasel w/Ice Punch Once you have Ice Punch on a Sneasel, it is easy to breed more Sneasels until you get a Jolly Natured one. |
