Gym Leader/Elite Four Difficulty
I'm sure most of you all have had difficulty in Diamond, Pearl, and/or Platinum with the gym leaders and Elite Four. Which gym leader and/or Elite Four member did you have the most difficulty with?
To answer my own question, for the gym leaders I would have to say Fantina in Platinum. She really did improve since Diamond and Pearl. |
i've not had much trouble with any of them really, but i did really struggle against Elite 4 Lucian once, but i found cynthia stupidly easy that time? :S
|
Yes I also had difficulty with fantina in platinum she got me unexpectedly with the pokemon she had it took me 3 times to get my pokemon strong enough to beat here
|
The Gyms were easy but I had trouble beating Aaron the first time round in Platinum. I always have difficulty with the first Elite 4 from every game. =3= |
I found Lucian and Cynthia really difficult.
I was well-prepared for Aaron (Rapidash and Staraptor), Bertha (Roserade and Empoleon), and Flint (Empoleon), so they weren't too much trouble. |
I didn't really find any of the Gyms that difficult, maybe because I have a tendency to train like crazy right before a challenge and then find out that my levels are miles above the Gym Leader's.
On the Elite 4, I didn't really have any problems either. Aaron was probably the trickiest, but I got in a critical-hit Earthquake on his Drapion and another critical Aerial Ace on his Heracross. Bertha was incredibly easy to beat with Empoleon and Leafeon's Grass Knot, and I got about four more critical hits on Flint with Surf. Four of Lucian's team died to Weavile's Night Slash, and I got in another critical hit Aerial Ace on Gallade and OHKO'ed it. o.o Even Cynthia's Garchomp went down in two hits (Ice Beam + Earthquake.) The only Pokemon in the League that really gave me trouble, ironically, was her Togekiss, who knocked Luxray out four times in a row with Aura Sphere because Thunder Fang kept missing. So I guess it was a mix of overpreparedness and sheer luck. That was a really long post. x_X |
The gym leaders were easy (however, I didn't even attempt Hearthome Gym until my friend traded me a Spiritomb) but I had the most trouble with E4 Champion Cynthia.
|
I always thought it was just me who had trouble with Fantina in platinum D:. She killed me like 4 times :C. Just beat her today :3
|
The only person I have a lot of trouble with is Cyanthia if her Garchomp faints a majority of my Pokes. The rest of the time I just blast through places by using type advantages.XD
|
I had trouble with Fantina, I only had to battle her once, but I had only my Monferno left with 1 hp. But when I had a Torterra, I could not beat Candance.
|
Fourth gen Gyms have been disappointments so far; Emerald was much harder. However, Fantina as third was a good move 'cause my usual strategy didn't work (Toxic+Bronzor) without Stunky. I had the most trouble with her. Everyone else were cakewalks in Pt. In DP, the only problem I can imagine is going against Byron without EQ or a fire move.
As far as the E4 goes, DP was easier because of the diversity. I ran through Pt's with my cousin's solo-Infernape <<, and Bertha and Cynthis were real challenges. If your team's diverse, though, no prob- |
In Platinum, Cynthia's Garchomp was harder than usually. I think it's because they raised the level a bit higher to make it more tougher for us.
|
All I can say is that all of them as a whole were stronger than in Diamond and Pearl
But I twas still abelt to beat all of them in 1 try, including Cynthia |
I had issues with Gardenia in Platinum because I picked Piplup. Her Turtwig kept on setting up Reflect and even her Roserade could take my Staravia's hits. Not to mention, her Roserade OHKO'd Staravia a dozen times in a row due to critical hit hax >.<
|
Cynthia is probably the hardest trainer I've faced in Platinum.
However, I try to grind as much as I can before facing such opponents. |
I found Volkner to be a tad difficult in Platinum. His stupid Luxray used Ice Fang on my Hippowdon and KO'ed it. My Honchkrow wouldn't listen to me, but managed to defeat it with Fly.
I haven't face the E4 as I just got my 8th badge today. |
I never have trouble with any of the Gym leaders or the Elite 4. But I'm going to have to go with the most difficult Cynthia
:t354:TG |
i thought the whole game was a bit more challenging then diamond and pearl. had a hard time with elite 4 and champ
|
RE: Gym Leader/Elite Four Difficulty
I had trouble with Lucian but the rest where basic :) cynthia was annoying but not hard.

I didn't really have a difficulty with the gym leaders or the elite four, but Byron and obviously Cynthia was hard for me.
|
I just beat Fantina in Diamond- didn't even brake a thumb sweat:p They have all been pretty easy, but then again im usually over zeleous when leveling up pokemon. Gardenia's stupid Roserade almost OHKO'd one of my pokes, but I survived. My team thus far is Torterra, Crobat, and Luxray. All of which are level 40 and over.
Not to sound cocky, but the gym leaders are usually insanley easy in all the pokemon games. It's battle tower/ battle frontier that is a bit harder:/ |
I didn't really struggle as such. It was a tiny bit more challenging I would say.
Which is good, but they still didn't make me black out at any pat of the game! |
Im having trouble with Gardenia's Pokemon when i started.. And also Cynthia i hate her pokemon :3 but it's strong love them XD.

Am I the only one who has a hard time with most of the Elite Four? ;;
For Gymleaders, the hardest was Gardenia. I chose Piplup, you see, and because Piplup was the only Pokemon in my arsenal besides Bidoof at that time, I kept being knocked out! I was supposed to capture either Beautifly or Dustox, but found myself using Hoothoot. Man. It was so hard. I hate how they made Hypnosis's Accuracy to 70. I was lucky enough to have Hypnosis hit Turtwig and have my Prinplup knock out Turtwig without waking him up. But Cherrim kept using Safeguard everytime so I can't even put Hypnosis on Roserade! Thankfully, I manage to be lucky enough to take out Cherrim and have Safeguard's effect wore off. Roserade was very easy, I wouldn't even consider Gardenia's Roserade as a challenge but type disadvatange hurts so bad. For Elite Four, man I was over unprepared! Aaron kept me distracted with his Drapion and his Vespiquen kept draining my Togekiss's Air Slash. I'm was eager to knock out his Yanmega on the first turn because of his Speedboost, and I have a hard time keeping my Magmortar in bay or else I'll have a real trouble with his Scizor. Bertha, She poses a real threat with her Gliscor. My Tangrowth really helped me because it knocked out all of her Pokemon with just Mega Drain, but really have a hard time with her Gliscor. Thankfully, Tangrowth is a defensive type. Other than her Gliscor, I kinda thought her Rhyperior would be a real troublesome, but then it was easy, OHKO with just Mega Drain. I was wondering what would happen if I teach Tangrowth Giga Drain... Flint. His team was a bomb. I regretted choosing Piplup as a starter because Empoleon kept being knocked out with a Flamethrower! Also, due to the power up Sunny Day has, I lost most of my Hyper Potion and Revival Herb because of Rapidash, Infernape and Magmortar. Argh. It wasn't my cup of tea, I hear you. Lucian. I had no trouble with him, but his Gallade is a menace. Drain Punch + Stone Edge = Horrible. Thankfully, Togekiss comes to the rescue. Cynthia's Garchomp knoced out most of my team. Togekiss and Tangrowth wasn my only hope. But it wasn't enough, so I traded my Floatzel from Pearl. It swept the floor with Garchomp, but It felt like cheating. ;; Thankfully, the second time around, I manage to hold my ground against the E4, even if they are 10 Levels higher than me. |
Well, I did not have much difficulty in both, but those that stand out most are Cynthia and Volkner |
To me i think the hardest gym leader is Maylene and the easiest is Wake the hardest in the elite 4 the hardest is Lucian and the easiest is Flint
|
Lucian was pretty hard. He has a strong team, but that's actually a good thing on my side.
I suppose I can say Cynthia was hard. The only kick I've seen from her was her lv. 69 Garchomp in Platinum, which gave a bit trouble to some people. For some reason I would have to say Crasher Wake has seemed to toughen up a bit in Platinum, but not by much. Comparing him to Pokemon Pearl, he's grown a stronger stragety. He was a bit difficult, but not as difficult as Fantina was for me. |
Actually I found D/P/Pt. quite easy. there was enough space between gyms to train so all the gym leaders were easy to beat. The only problem I had in Pt. was Lucian because I didn't have any effective moves besides U-turn on Gliscor so I had to rely on pure power to beat him. (still really easy) It's the only game generation that i beat the E4 for the first time
|
For me the gym most difficult some game had been the seventh one, surely very it depended on the characteristics of my team.
|
I had trouble with Gardenia, but then again, I was only using Prinplup. >.<
|
Lucian and Cynthia were big struggles for me in Pearl and Platinum.
The rest were easy and basic, though. |
I really had no difficulty with any of the leaders, the elite four, or anywhere in the story line. As it has been said before, a team of Rattatas could beat the entire story line.
No offense to those of you that did have trouble. |
I must say, that i had some trouble with Elite Four member Lucian. Champ Cynthia's Garchomp was really hard to defeat too, but in the end i barely could win against them.
|
I have the most difficulty with crasher wake, but they're all still easy since my pokes are always overtrained.
|
All i can say is Lucian is pretty damn hard
Gallade was kicking down my team one by one the only advantage i had against it was my Leafeon's Shadow Ball But Gallade kept using Psycho Cut and i kept using hyper potions But the second time i was prepared |
For Gym Leaders I would say Maylene
and for Elite Four I would say Lucian. |
In Diamond i had trouble with Lucian the first time around, and i'm currently (as in, i'm battling her while writing this) having trouble with Fantina in Platinum. The man looking chick got tough! :P
|
I had difficulty with the Elite Four: The Old Lady, who's name escapes me, because I was stupid enough to walts on in with only a lvl 65 Electric type and a lvl 46 Water type.
|
I didnt have any problems with the Gyms but in the Elite Four, Cynthia's Garchomp kept pwning me. I was only able to beat her because her Garchomp missed and I used Destiny Bond using my Gengar.
|
When I faced the gym leaders in Diamond/Pearl for the first time, here's how it went:
Roark: He was surprisingly difficult to beat. I had all my Pokemon at level 10, and picked Turtwig as a starter, but his Cranidos was difficult to beat--it was both fast and had high Attack. I ended up narrowly defeating him with my Starly... In future games though, I raised my Pokemon to level 15 and thus was able to beat him much more easily. Gardenia: Not that difficult with level 20 Pokemon. When I faced her in Pearl I had Drifloon and Combee on my team, and my Combee especially was able to resist the Grass attacks, and because she was light, she took about 1 damage from Grass Knot. I wore her Pokemon down with Gust. Maylene: Her Lucario was a bit tricky, especially since none of my Pokemon had a Fighting or Fire or Ground-type attack, but fortunately I had a Misdreavus on my team and she was immune to fighting attacks (although all her attacks weren't very effective against Lucario). Crasher Wake: That Floatzel OHKO'd my Roselia with Ice Fang, and all my Pokemon were slower than him. Even my Luxio was only able to get in one Spark before being KO'd. I think it was my Prinplup who finished him off. Fantina: The funny part about this battle was that both of us had Misdreavus and Drifblim in our team, and my Misdreavus beat hers. My Luxray was able to handle the rest of her Pokemon pretty easily, knowing Bite, but Drifblim took a little while because it knew Stockpile. Byron: This was an easy battle, save for his Bastiodon having high defenses. My Purugly was able to KO him in two Digs, and my Empoleon OHKO'd his Steelix with Surf. Candice: The easiest of the gym leaders in my opinion. My Vespiquen 2HKO'd her Abomasnow with Attack Order and all Abomasnow did inbetween was use Wood Hammer, which only did a sliver of damage. The stupid plant didn't have the sense to use an ice attack! The Medicham threw me off, but my Mismagius OHKO'd it with Shadow Ball. Volkner: He was pretty easy to beat. The funny part was that my level 47 Luxray beat his level 49 Luxray, without any items. His Luxray kept using Charge Beam or Thunder Fang, whereas mine used Crunch. Aaron: The hardest of his Pokemon was Heracross, who I had to use Perish Song on in the end. Fortunately my Luxray was able to take care of his Vespiquen, and the other Pokemon weren't too hard. Bertha: She was the easiest of the Elite Four. My Roserade OHKO'd her first two Pokemon (Quagsire and Whiscash) with Petal Dance, and the rest of the Pokemon surrendered to Roserade and Empoleon pretty easily. Flint: The hardest of the Elite Four (Cynthia doesn't count). Sunny Day foiled my plan to beat him with my Empoleon's Surf, and Infernape KO'd my Purugly before she could use Dig or Dream Eater. I barely scraped by with my Mismagius there... Lucian: He wasn't too hard to beat, actually. I had a Luxray with Crunch, a Vespiquen, and a Mismagius, and all three of them were able to handle the psychics. Cynthia: This was a tough battle, especially since my team was just below level 55. The most unfortunate incident in that battle was when my Vespiquen battled her Lucario. It was a LONG battle, and my Vespiquen wore Lucario down with Attack Order and using Defend/Heal Order inbetween. When she finally KO'd Lucario, she had maxed-out Defense and Special Defense, so I thought she would do fine against Milotic. Wrong--Milotic's first Ice Beam got a critical hit. x_x |
I pretty much swept the E4 in Platinum, cos I stopped to put everyone up ten levels after Volkner . . . But Maylene gave me trouble. Her Lucario just had something super effective against just about EVERYTHING on my team. Now I take great pleasure in pounding her into the dust at the Battleground.
|
Candice was a bit stronger in Platinum for me. It's because i always used Potions. xD. I can beat her but she did really improved in Platinum. And about the Elite Four Lucian was hard. His Psychic Type Pokemons was too strong to beat. But i have beaten him. And about the Champion Cynthia. It was a bit easy. Except for her Garchomp and Milotic. I Have hard time battling that two pokemon. But i have beaten them. Oh well atlist i did beat them. xD
~Fairytales. |
To tell you all the truth I don't have any problems beating the Gym Leaders or the Elite Four, because before I go into battle I studied the Gym Leader Pokemon, what kind Pokemon they use (same as the elite four) and I counter it, like rock is weak against water so I use my piplup. I stack up on all kind of potions, Antidotes, Ice Heal, Burn Heal, Awakenings,Revives, Parlyz Heal, and save up the Max Revives and PP's.
I trained my team about 6 levels each town I visit or more. Before the Pokemon League , I trained all my pokemon to lvl 60 and my Empoleon to lvl 65 just in case. The only battle that I got trouble with is the Pokemon Champion Cynthia. I use all kind of combos to take her other pokemon down, the pokemon that got me trouble is Gabite. X-X Or what ever Pokemon he is. and Togekiss. I have to keep on using Hyper Potions, PP's and Revives to beat her, and it took me a hour and a half. Cynthia is the toughest of them all X-X Elite 4 is just baby stuff, comparing to Cynthia. |
For the Gym Leaders, I'd say Candice. But that's only because I focused on raising my Roserade and then when it came to battling her all my other Pokémon were destroyed...And then Froslass owned my Roserade. D:
|
Bottom Line
Ok I think that D/P were harder for most leaders (The level scales what did it) and that platinum was quite a bit easier that being said I had problems with the elite four... but isn't that the point of the game? I thought it was perhaps I was wrong... I do that some times.
Could be harder...yeah |
Cynthia took the mick to beat! Her Pokemon was like 10 levels above my strongest Pokémon which was Vaporeon!
I beat her eventually, but that was one of the longest battles i've ever had, it made me sweat :O |
really only aaron's drapion and bertha's quagsire gave me trouble otherwise it was all easy
|
Aaron's Drapion was a tough match. Though I found it quite easy as I had the right pokémon for it. Though for some odd reason I found Bertha's Walrein quite hard.
As for the Gym Leaders, not only has Fantina given me trouble, but Volkner's Raichu has given me tons of trouble in Pokémon Pearl as well. I had rushed through the game and my pokémon did not have any moves that could bypass it. Luckily I beat it, but by severe luck. I had tough battles in Pokémon Pearl, and hopefully, I will not have trouble in Pokémon Platinum. |
I usually SR the game at Lucian, since he can be very long-lasting if you don't get a good start in that battle... I usually OHKO the others :)
|
Wake in Platinum was extremely difficult for me. This is because, I never have liked any Pokemon that are Grass or Electric. So I never get them. I just had to go all out on power to beat him. I also had to get to a fairly high level for that point in the game.
|
I hate Fantina
the hardest E4 would be Lucian. |
The gym leader i had the most trouble with would have to be Candice. I wasn't prepared well enough to fight her, but, i didn't loose. Now I am hoping that i win against Volkner.
|
The hardest gym leader I found a difficulty was Fantina's Gengar since I didn't have the right Pokemon to defeat it at first and the hardest E4 leader was difficult for me was Cynthia and her Lucario.
|
Uhm, if you call owning all the gyms with pokemon 5-10 levels lower difficult, probably Byron. Yup, level 29 Magmar owned him... Still yet to take on the E4 and stuff, but the WEAK 5 pose no threat to me. It's really easy. Never really had trouble with the Gym Leaders or Weak 5 members of the 4th Gen.
|
Who I really hate, is the E4 in Platinum the second time around. Their Pokemon boosted up over 10 levels after beating them the first time, that's so cheap. |
I have beaten Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum
when I first play Diamond/ Pearl I had trouble with Roark (maybe my pokemon weren't leveld enough?) but in Platinum I owned his Pokemon in like 1 try |
I just found Cynthia difficult because of garchomp as I purposely didn't took an ice type in my team to make it more challenging the last time I played platinum. Even Togekiss was very persistant.(I have restarted my game now).
|
I only really had difficulties on Cynthia's sweepers and them spamming earthquake while I try and heal, otherwise I usually keep a pretty balanced moveset on each of my pokemon :)
|
Cynthia was the only person I lost to in Platinum. **** Garchomp.
|
Yeah
