Do you think it's OK to hack?

I think its perfectly fine to hack. What do you think?

Ray Maverick June 5th, 2009 1:40 AM

Yep,it is,but it has its disadvatages.Like, when you hack for a while, the rom crashes, and its soooo annoying.

Tropical Sunlight June 5th, 2009 3:12 AM

No, I don't think hacking is OK.
I think it is the opposite of perfect.
It's just that I started and now I can't stop.

Mana June 5th, 2009 3:29 AM

Hacking is Terrible! << thats why we do it? :P

Tyrantrum June 5th, 2009 3:50 AM

what is this I don't even...

Anyways, I think hacking is just fine to me. It's a great way for other people to experience game design, or the overall look of how people create the game, in my own opinion, of course. I'm hoping to make video games with Nintendo one day, and I think hacking, at the moment, is a great way for me to practice. Once that is done, it's on tobigger and better stuff, like RMXP, etc.

Agreed.

But yeah. If we thought it was bad to hack, then why would we be doing it?

seeker June 5th, 2009 5:59 AM

Of course? Must we waste valuble thread space with this xD

Satoshi Ookami June 5th, 2009 6:00 AM

Who knows... Anyone can find pros and cons

Master Terrador June 5th, 2009 7:04 AM

Now...If we didn't think hacking is OK...Why would we do it...-_-

Its Perfectly fine with me...Even though it breaks copyrights...

DA-Kizemaru June 5th, 2009 8:12 AM

Isn't it illegal unless you own a copy of the games (not in a literal sense) ?
But its ok, wouldn't say you should do it...

r4126 June 5th, 2009 2:13 PM

Hacking a game is just like modding for PC games.

Hacking isn't illegal...downloading ROMs is. =D

Now, if you actually dump your own, the only thing illegal is breaking the copyright.

Full Metal June 5th, 2009 8:46 PM

the copyright thing....
isn't that just as bad as burning a cd?
I mean seriously, no-one actually goes around sueing people for that
and surely to goodness nintendo has found us (pokecommunity) who knows, maybe they're using our tools XD wouldn't that be hilarious, not killing us b/c we're valuable to them XD i can't stop XDing @ the thought, why hack when u got the source code right?
anyways
i believe it is safe to asssume with the gb/gbc/gba games, we are hacking the scraps nintendo fails to update. We take over the responsibility so to speak
not to mention it's fun and challenging.
So yes, hacking is fine with me

~Magnus~ June 5th, 2009 10:45 PM

Hacking is NEVER ok...if the hacker sucks and just dissappoints and cancels...seriously why would it be bad?

althir June 6th, 2009 3:02 AM

Hacking a ROM is OK.
Hacking on ONLINE GAME is NOT OK.

Why?

Pokemon Roms are Single Player based, so theres nothing bad on it.
Hacking on ONLINE GAME, is bad and you all little hackers should get banned on them xD

Hermione Granger June 6th, 2009 4:24 AM

I think it is ok, in my opinion they are way better than the ones that are official. Also reason why I want to learn even if I have no experience.

I think he meant hacking as in "using cheats" to give yourself an advantage.

Private servers are little different to ROM Hacks.

~Magnus~ June 6th, 2009 3:02 PM

Doesnt need to be a private server...turning Halflife into a Naruto MMO is hacking but its not wrong...

Sora's Nobody June 6th, 2009 4:43 PM

I dont think its wrong i just think its fun :D

sab June 7th, 2009 6:50 AM

I think that it is fine to hack so long as you don't sell your game or make a profit of any kind. It is a fangame, It is made by fans for fans to play. so It should be for sheer enjoyment.

Super Pichu June 7th, 2009 5:06 PM

It's okay with me, but you have to make sure you bought the actual game first, i don't like cheating though.

Surf June 8th, 2009 2:48 AM

Unless you're doing for any other reason than the fact that it's fun, then I think hacking is ok.

^Did that make sense?^

SPEEDIE June 8th, 2009 3:05 AM

I think that Hacking is perfectly fine unless you use it to make your own profits

Conan Edogawa June 8th, 2009 3:20 AM

What's wrong with rom hacking? As long as you own a hard copy of the game then it's perfectly legal and most rom hacks improve games.
