Prima Guide?

So what are your opinions on the Pokemon Platinum Guide published by Prima? I just ordered it along with the game itself, and was wondering. I've heard people say that its got a lot of information in it... hopefully more than the Nintendo Power DP Guide, which sucked. The only Pokemon guide which I actually thought was good was the one for GS published by Versus(?).

So, what are your opinions?

Awesome 600+ pages of Pokemon glory. The text is a bit small but its very informative imo.

Yuoaman June 6th, 2009 12:56 PM

I could just imagine how large the book would have been if they had not used a small text XD

IT's....delicious.

xD

I just watched a video on Youtube in which someone showed how big the book was... and wow... it's just MASSIVE. I cannot wait until both it and Platinum itself arrive.

I told you its 600 plus pages. What did you expect it to be less thicker then a harry potter book?

Yuoaman June 6th, 2009 1:21 PM

I knew that it was over 600 pages, but seeing it is quite another thing...

Zelda June 6th, 2009 2:03 PM

The guide was pretty cool. The information is comprehensible and precise. Even though it is really long, at least you know they didn't leave much significant information out. Is this the longest guide they have ever made?

However, I found the text to be a bit too small. Though at least I can still see it well enough.

Yuoaman June 6th, 2009 2:14 PM

I've heard people mention that the guide is the first to explicitly mention EVs, is this true?

TERRA#493 June 6th, 2009 2:16 PM

Generally Future Press is the original developer of game guides. Most of the times original means better quality. Till now i must agree to this wisdom. I don't have that much guides (The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Animal Crossing: Wild World and now Pokemon Platinum), anyway i don't need(ed) them, only Animal Crossing: Wild World, and generally the Animal Crossing-games are helpful when needing informations.

If the Pokemon Platinum Guide of Prima is good or not, i can't say, what i can say is, that the Pokemon Platinum Guide of Future Press is great. Generally the Internet is the easiest way (when you also plan to buy a guide, you should notice this) for getting informations, but such an great illustrated guide is just a feast for the eyes- and minimum just as informative as the Internet. Over 500 sites says all.

Zelda June 6th, 2009 2:20 PM

I'd like to mention that Pokemon Platinum has a lot more features in the game now. So since there are new features, the guide will have to tell more about the game. That is probably why the guide is 600+ pages.

I don't know who has time to read all 600+ pages, but I know they can just skim through the things.

lilninjapig June 6th, 2009 2:45 PM

It's great, I have a copy from FuturePress. It's good if you want to look up a Pokemon's moves without having to go through the internet, plus it's really fun to skim through and look at the art and stuff. xP

I don't like Prima guides cuz they always make mistakes, so I get my guides from Nintendo only and they don't make mistakes at all. lol

I'm quite sure that they are both the same thing... Though I could be wrong.

But could someone answer my question: Does the guide mention EVs, or not?

Fire Eagle June 6th, 2009 3:11 PM

I never knew that a guide for Pokemon would become more than 600 pages until I actually shopped for it and bought it myself. It's really informative and such as well.

Ugh... they're also severely lacking in information. The DP guide only had the Sinnoh Pokedex (incomplete I might add), didn't go into any detail after the Elite Four, and didn't give the rosters of any trainers.

Zelda June 6th, 2009 4:30 PM

I never realized they lacked some information. Though, I don't worry about it as I get all my information from the guides and the internet. At least Prima's guide has some helpful information, even if they leave some out. 600+ pages must mean that they added a lot of information that we need, so that is good.

Yuoaman June 6th, 2009 4:52 PM

It wasn't that there wasn't enough information, it's just that they weren't nearly thorough enough.

TeaTiMe June 14th, 2009 1:34 AM

Yes

Yes this is true I own the the official guides and even on like IGN guides they don't talk about it so yes this is the first guide to talk about evs and how to EV farm... it's cool, useful, etc. but the internet holds better/more info :P
