Hey Cooley, this is looking great! ^_^ Any place for an OW/spriter like me? xD

The silver OW needs maybe an angrier look in my opinion. ^^

EDIT: 100th post. :x

great hack bro, if you need anything custom/ original made just ask.

Thanks! And Silver's not an angry person in the hack XD
And by "OW/Spriter" it meant Ow spriter or spriter, correct? Just checking, because I could use a Silver Intro sprite.

Good luck!:D

This hack is terrific. I just started playing, and I'm already blown away by the plot depth, the great new ideas, and the exquisite mapping and scripting (I can't script worth a darn, but you've done some great scenes). Keep it up, this is absolutely terrific.
Oh, I have one suggestion. Since you're forced to start with Cyndaquil, I think you should give that particular Cyndaquil the ability to learn abnormal moves. Just a thought. Again, great job!

And one more thing... I just picked up a Rare Candy and wound up with 16 in my bag. Also, Oak gave me 10 potions. The 10 potions is cool, but 16 Rare Candies before the first gym? Is this a glitch?

Does the alpha end with the guy who wants you to find his glasses?

Neo-Spriteman July 27th, 2009 11:51 AM

Umm...
I don't know if this has been posted, but after I got the blackglasses, there was a tile that I couldnt go through, so I pressed it, and the game froze...

Thanks for the input. Abnormal moves, sounds like a good idea. Do you have any in mind?

And there are no gyms in Eruption.. There will be something better:
More trainers and superior individuals :D

The rare candy thing, I only used to get past some parts because I didn't feel like battling/losing etc. It was only to help me. I'll replace it with another useless item(X ATTACK) XD

Well mapping is great, I've done up to the BETA, but I just can't seem to fix this sprite bug for some reason.. But if I remove it, I'd have to rethink the event outline, which shouldn't be a problem.

Ooh, that doesn't sound to good... I'll try and fix it right away. Thanks for telling me ;)

trebornosliw July 27th, 2009 4:22 PM

Well, I'm not sure if Cyndaquil or its evos can learn Eruption but it is the game's namesake...
Also, I was thinking that you might be able to include some sort of story event in which Cyndaquil is forced to adapt, possibly learning moves he otherwise couldn't have used.
Here are a few ideas for that:
1. Possibly learns heat wave to fend off multiple enemies.
2. Rock Slide, or some rock type attack, while working in the mountains (probably as a later evo).
3. Solarbeam, since it sort of corresponds with the fire type, and it needs a counter to water and rock-types.
You could have the professor ask to examine the Cyndaquil, and declare it an unusual specimen, you could just insert the events in-game, you could even borrow from the TCG and call it a Delta Species. The main idea would be to give it a slightly more versatile move-pool. If you'd like, I can type up a more elaborate description of what I mean and PM it to you.
Anyhoo, thanks for making a great hack. But what's this I hear? The game doesn't end with the glasses request? Well, where the heck are the glasses???
Oh well, I'd better get searching.

cooley July 27th, 2009 4:39 PM

Oh, I see. Those ideas are great, but they would have to be in the beginning, right? Well not really, because I have an Idea planned out:

Spoiler:
Team Knox is frustrated with the losses coming from a little 12 year old boy, and decides to take action. They kidnap his mom and dad, and tell him, that he must give them 100000 PokéCurrency in order for them to return his parents.

Of course that's just the gist of it, and I can add the "new move event" to it, so cyndaquil can save Silver's Parents or something along the lines of that. May will be part of this event, and that's all the spoilers I can give for now. Thanks for the ideas!

Thanks for using them. You've done a great job on this. If there's anything I can do to help, let me know (I'd love to help with the plotline, though you seem to have that well in hand).

@siper x, have you tried just giving the ips file and the rom the same name and putting them in the same folder? If that doesn't work, LIPS is good, like Sonic Boom said, and has worked for me. If that fails you, first check that you are patching the GBA file and not a sav, bak, or pal extension. Next, make sure the Rom is clean, with no prior patches. If all fails, redownload the patch and try again.
And if that fails, take this to a help thread, which is honestly where you should have posted it in the first place.

I am stuck in route 1 is that the end of the alpha or is there a certain event?

trebornosliw July 30th, 2009 6:56 PM

I think you have to find blackglasses for some guy, but I haven't a clue where they are, and I've looked everywhere I could think of. It's driving me into even more serious insanity... I think I'm going to cheat and open the thing in Advance Map.

Okay, route 1....

Spoiler:

There's a reason why the Knox Grunt was wearing a pair of glasses... And why he threw them away. Unless you haven't battled them yet, or even encountered them.

Go to the bottom corner of the map and talk to them, then try to go back to the Glasses guy. He's going to talk to you about them, and you go back to the Knox Grunts and battle them. They'll leave behind the BlackGlasses.

New Updates; Screenshots

I have some screenshot updates from a completed Team Knox Event. Hint: This is where you supposedly get a Totodile somehow, and it's not going to be the same as when you got Cyndaquil. Guess what Pokémon's next? :P

Screen(s) are below.

trebornosliw July 31st, 2009 4:24 AM

Oh, I get it now! No wonder I also couldn't find them in A-map!
The Totodile and "secret Pokemon" are a great idea. One thought though. Instead of letting the player get all of the Johto region starters, have you considered staggering it (so like one from Kanto, one from Johto, one from Hoenn)? I guess it really doesn't make too much of a difference, and I love Feraligatr anyway. Also, will there be some sort of event where Cyndaquil 'smells' the other Cyndaquils in a Knox base? Like a rescue mission type thing?
Although if the plot get's any deeper, I'll drown.
Incredible job, cooley, keep it up. Maybe if we all sign a petition we can get Nintendo to hand over the rights to you...
By the way, what was the inspiration for "Sprash" attack?

There's going to be something like that. But what if Cyndaquil is evolved/deposited? And for the starter questions, I just don't want it that way.. I don't want for the Player to be able to catch every Hoenn starters because then I'd have to add more Hoenn Pokemon into the wild. I want him to be able to catch around 150 mix of Kanto and Johto and a few Hoenn(legendaries, and common pokes), like original games. Don't be mad at me for this :P

The SPRASH attack, was inspired by Hoppip. I like that Pokemon, and didn;t want to change it's moveset. I didn't realize it only learned Splash and Synthesis when I caught and, an unknowinly put it as a last resort pokemon (my Cyndaquil fainted :() Yep. I lost that battle.

Since Magikarp is a sorry Pokemon, I wanted to keep it like that, and edited Splash to do damage based on the opponents level.

OK, I get it. Not mad at you by the way (I have no reason to be, since the hack itself wouldn't exist without you), you have a good point about the Hoenn starters...
Now as for the Cyndaquil event, the evolution probably wouldn't be as much of a problem (I'm sure Typhlosion can smell just as well as Cyndaquil) but you're absolutely right when you mention the possibility that Cyndaquil has been deposited. Here are two ideas for that:

1. The player is the one to notice the kidnapped Cyndaquil, he either hears them or sees a Knox grunt running down an escapee.

2. The player has to pose as a Knox grunt to infiltrate a hidden base on a specific mission to free the Cyndaquil. As part of his cover, he can be required to bring a Cyndaquil with him (he can say he caught a runaway?). There are still the previously mentioned flaws, but if he has to have Cyndaquil with him, he can't deposit it, and you seem to have prevented Cyndaquil from evolving for a time (for which I hate you just a little). But in any case, it doesn't even necessarily have to be a Cyndaquil that the player takes "hostage." Another option would be that the player teams up with a Legendary Pokemon (or someone makes a mock-up of one) and pretends to be taking it to the Boss.
The most awkward part of this event (for me) would be finding a way to change the players OW sprite temporarily to look more like a Knox Grunt...

Anyway, thanks for hearing me out. Again, and I guess I've said this about a million times by now, you've done a great job with this. Keep it up!

Actually, when Cyndaquil faked evolving, it wasn't even the right level to evolve! Cyndaquil evolves into Quilava at level 14, which it hadn't reached yet.

SharpPoint August 2nd, 2009 11:47 AM

Well I can say that this game is well scripted. I can't say I'm a big fan of the maps. They're well designed but there is hardly any playability.

The reason it did not evolve at the lvl it is supposed to evolve at
is that you did not have the pokedex yet without it the pokemon
can not evolve

Spoiler:
You obviously aren't a scripter! :D

You see when Cyndaquil reached level 14 and wouldn't evolve it was because the national Pokedex wasn't activated! :|

Nintendo actually made FR/LG that way so you couldn't evolve Kanto Pokemon into Johto or Hoenn Pokemon! So it tries to evolve but can't, understand? :D

Although, cooley could fix that by setting the flag in one of the scripts before that happens, like when Cyndaquil is obtained, perhaps. ;)

On-Topic:
Well, those previous updates a few post back... Those are nice!
I like the OW of the Admin...

Well as always, I appreciate your input ^_^
And the Cyndaquil evolving thing... It's not a bug, it's a way to make sure you catch other Pokémon and train them, instead of Leveling up Cyndaquil until he's level 30 before the Alpha ends xD

The maps are a way to make sure you play the game longer. But after the Alpha, I realized it's a kinda cheap shot :P
So in the Beta, you'll get a lot of playability :)

Okay, I appreciate your concern for Eruption, and I understand you want it to be fun and exciting to play through, but your Ideas don't seem... Real. For Silver to take a Pokémon hostage to help the other Pokémon, would throw off the whole storyline I've planned. Coherently speaking, this event requires too much to seem logical. And it seems a bit silly to me.

If I were to make this, it would be long and annoying to script, that's the whole reason basically. Not to put your Idea down or anything, but it doesn't seem practical to the storyline.

Okay, I get it. Sorry if I'm becoming annoying, I just tend to let my mouth run (or my fingers in this case).
From this point on I'll avoid offering suggestions unless I'm asked to, although I do want to clarify something real quick.
I didn't mean that Silver should take a Pokemon hostage, I was saying that he might fake doing so. Granted, it's kind of an overused line, and it would probably be a pain to script. Anyway, thanks for your patience with me. Shutting up.
Keep up the good work!

Why wouldn't Cyndaquil evolve? Of course it'll evolve... It doesn't evolve until you get your Pokédex, and since everyone is putting their Cyndaquil on Steroids, I'll have to raise the level it evolves, to level 17. :P. And the Grunts, I will probably just change the letter on their shirts and might change the palette.

Well, Entei of course.. I dunno about groudon though, I don't think there's enough space for two "Erupting" Pokemon... Unless you have an idea of some sort ;)

Celebi, will most likely be included, Jirachi, and one of the three legendary Birds. When the Hack is complete I'll release a patch that allows you to catch the other Legendary dogs/cats/mice whatever you want to call them. I should/could add more, but there aren't too many Legendary Pokémon you encounter on/around level 20 (except Rotom, and Regiggigas) meaning the hack should be extended to give the Player enough time to level his pokemon up to at least 35.

Wow, what a post... Well hope that answers it..

Two Erupting Pokemon...
I suppose you could make one the cause of the other... but really, I have no good ideas. What you could do is bring in Suicune as the key to 'neutralizing' Entei, or even try to do that with Groudon (say the one is ticked off that the other is erupting his volcano...) but again, I'm not really sure.
Whatever, you've done a great job so far. I'm sure this will continue to be a great hack. Keep it up!
Oh, and you could always insert some sort of Legendary egg, earlier in the game, but late enough that it will still have some serious catching up to do.
Personally, I think you should somehow include Mewtwo, because he is the incarnation of awesome. :)
But that's coming from a guy who thinks Blissey should be a legendary.

I would gladly beta test for you!!! i'm really new here but i saw this hack about a week ago and i thought it looks absolutely amazing! you've done a great job on it so far, so even if i can't beta test i will be waiting for the beta to come out :)

I appreciate it, but it's as you said.. You're pretty new. You have to be -- this tall to enter xD. But on the bright side, you only have to wait a little while to play :)

I suppose so.. Or even Suicune can create some sort of Orb that neutralizes Groudon :)

Err, you think Blissey should be legendary? XDDD

I didn't think of that. It would be an interesting twist, and I think there's actually a Special that activates the Orb script already (though that's probably only for Ruby).
Yes, I think Blissey should be a legendary. There's a sickening level of Legendary discrimination against pink puffballs.
Plus, Blissey is ridiculously awesome anyway.

luigi-guy August 4th, 2009 12:48 PM

Hm...I supose I could be a better tester for you, I've been here for a while and this is one of the few games I've actually enjoyed.
I talk to EVERYONE and read EVERY sign, I even look at objects like painting and bookcases to see what they say XD (Wait...how can I do that?! The don't talk!)
I guess it doesn't matter if I don't because its being released this week anyway XD

[edit] And as soon as I get the ROM I'll start BETA testing, I've already got 6 clean FR roms.

Well, I've always preferred Mewtwo to Mew (and Blissey. Have I mentioned that Blissey is awesome? You should make the giant ultimate super-awesome Blissey that-)ahem, erm, where was I...
Yeah, Mew would be great, but where would you put him? Also, I've heard that if you catch Mew in the wild, he doesn't obey you...
You should have the Professor give Mew to you if you complete the regional dex (though that might get a little complicated to script, since you'd have to somehow seperate the Pokemon you include in your dex from those in the National and Kanto dexes). Or maybe you could stick Mew in that cave where you caught the Cyndaquil, for when you come back and revisit. Or maybe you could rescue it from team Knox.
There I go again. Well, where do you think you'll put Mew, if you include him?
Oooooh, I just had a thought. You should stick him under a truck somewhere for nostalgia's sake! :)
Ah well, keep up the good work! I'm looking forward eagerly to the next release.

EDIT: I just read through my own post and noticed how incredibly goofy it was... sorry about that.

Ooh, well I meant Mew as in you said they exclude pink Pokemon from being legendaries LOL Sorry about that... Mew would definitely cause a lot a problems, and It's not worth creating a time consuming ASM routine over..

Lol! I got it.

I have bad news though, unfortunately. I decided to add one more event, like a storyline event, right before Eruption starts. And everything works perfectly, up until it's time to warp. When the warp starts, it makes the sound (0x9) but it doesn't finish.

I've been working on it for an hour or so, but if nothing works, I'll have to exclude it. It is a very good event too :(

FIXED!!! :):):)

This is what the event would've looked like(well, some of it):
http://i32.tinypic.com/1z3mc7d.png http://i28.tinypic.com/2gxem2x.png
Btw, I made that large ball. And it's not an Overworld ;)

That huge ball is totally awesome!
Is that one of guardian's stones?

luigi-guy August 6th, 2009 12:49 AM

I'm pretty sure (If not totally correct) thats the stone before it was broken...

Pokestick, good times. August 6th, 2009 2:00 AM

The event deems really good, but if i can pop in and mention something (as appearence is an important part in any hack to me), then I would recommend you to Block-Edit the upper sides of the platform so that they fit to the black background. It would make it look another bit better, as the details together make the big thing really good, right ^^

Aside from that little note, then I must say that this event seems relly good, it's gotta explain a lot for the story... Even if I actually see a cutscene similar to that one in like every single hack nowadays... Well, that's because they're good, right? And this ought to be special!

Happy Hacking, Cooley!

trebornosliw August 6th, 2009 2:22 PM

That looks like a nice event, and some superb scripting, as usual. I look forward to seeing it in-game (and to finally evolving my Cyndaquil). Just one thing; it's spelled 'guardian.'
And one other thing occured to me. You have said that you will only be inserting some of the Pokemon on the national dex, not all. As I sat and pondered the deep matters of the universe, an appalling, unspeakable, deplorable possibility passed through my mind. Though I am sure no one would be depraved enough to make such an unforgiveable exclusion, I must ask;
you are going to include Blissey, right?

Unfortunately, Blissey has no importance to the Pokemon world.. Just kidding, of course it'll be included. And I'll even make a person give you one (Just like the person in Silph Co. gave Ash a Lapras)

or will it be just a Blissey just wondering

Egg of Happiny is imo best solution

Pokestick, good times. August 7th, 2009 2:12 AM

But what would a Happiny do in a FR hack?

I liked that Lapras, the one that RED was given... I use it as a HM-slave :p

Thank goodness, I was worried for a second.
This thread is looking better and better all the time. Keep up the good work on this amazing (and Blissey-inclusive) hack!
By the way, how long do you think you'll make Eruption? By the time the player finishes the plot, what level will their party be, roughly?

No, it's not necessary. D/P/P Pokémon mess up a great hack, if I wanted D/P/P Pokémon I would've just hacked Diamond/Pearl/Platinum xD

Should be around 40-50. Like how it is, in the original games.

New Updates; BETA release

Well, I had an unexpected turn in BETA testers, so really I only had two to detect/try everything. And unfortunately, they seemed to be "in a rush" to do it so.. I took what they reported, fixed it, and fixed anything else they didn't say.

Okay enough of personal business, and more of BETA business.
The BETA is below, play it to your hearts content. Let me know what you feel about it, etc. Sorry I'm one day late, but I bet no one really cares that much.

I won't be here for the next seven days. I'll be attending a(n) international camporee in Wisconsin. Good luck to you all with the BETA (in case it doesn't work), and don't forget to brush twice a day!

It probably means he hasn't finished the full beta yet >_> People were complaining that it said Prof. Oak in the intro instead of Prof. Log IIRC.

Lol to everything... I wouldn't play a prank, even if I needed more time to work on Eruption. I haven't worked on it since last sunday, but now that I'm back and see that the patch isn't working.. I guess you can call it a prank? :P

sorry for the double post, but i found a glitch/bug.

if you don't heal at the pokemon center, and you lose (all pokemon faint) you end up next to Blaine the gym leader and it has the nurse joy talk.

crazy.

The ones you've just posted are really not that important because it's just a bonus area to walk around in. But thanks anyways.

Most of the bugs you have posted like walking through things, they don't happen to me.
Did you patch the old eruption, with the new one?
Or Patch a Firered v1.0 with this Eruption patch?

There's a sign that's there, it clearly states to heal your Pokemon before continuing. I didn't put it there for no reason, you know ;)

I uploaded a Bug-fix patch. Check the first post.
