the tower in goldenrod is most likely a gts while the building near national park a contest place.

west of ciniwood could be a safari, i don't really think a pal park is completely needed but it could be one.

The new area west of Cianwood could be a new facility where battles take place on different terrain (highly unlikely and probably going to be a safari zone or pal park) the other facilities could be spread out in Kanto, maybe 2 or 3 of them? This is just an idea but it would be interesting as each facility would have its own personality.

In my opinion it would be a shame for "The great Sea Basin Pokemon" to not have to be dived for as that is the thing that i remember it for and what makes it unique. I think either HM or TM Dive should be reintroduced in order to catch it or the quest should involve some sort of submarine. (a bit extravagant, i know)

I really like your idea on having the battle facilities spread out through both of the regions. It really brings in the anime to influence the game.

OMG! The full version of the map. I think I'm the only person not to have seen it.

incognito322 June 17th, 2009 7:50 PM

I had never thought of the contests being that little platform next to the National Park. But from the way its decorated, that makes sense. All i hope is that Kanto is not a resized mess of the Fr/Lg Kanto.*to GTS doubters* If you take a close look at the building to the west of Goldenrod and the one in Platinum, it looks exactly the same. Most maps in the game relocate buildings but in the same space provided in the original games: for example some of Olivine City's houses appear to have been relocated (the two that sat together north of the Glitter Lighthouse), but there is no new stretch of land where they sit. Plus, Saffron City would be too late in the game to get to a GTS, and because Goldenrod is pretty much the most modern you'll get in Johto, it would make sense to place it there. Is that thing near what appears to be the Goldenrod Department store a blimp? It sure looks like one. And oddly, the image of Glitter Lighthouse in the background of the Soul Silver box art is taller and paler than the lighthouse featured in the Johto region image. Was the background image from another Johto concept art? The two that did feature a lighthouse like that on the box art were not nearly as neat or showed proper perspective. That confused me.

(2.) Below the clouds, you can clearly see a gatehouse leading up towards the void. This was present in Crystal (and led to the Battle Tower), but not in G/S.

Nice to see, after the female player incident, that they're not completely ignoring Crystal.

(1.) Curious how we have these six perfectly rectangular regions, each seemingly representing an element. Could the Leafeon/Glaceon stones be located here? Looking so artificial, it could also be a candidate for a Battle Frontier.

(6, 7, 8.) Glad to see Kanto's presence has been established beyond reasonable doubt.

And you failed to note that suspicious, orange place north of Ecruteak.

joehat June 17th, 2009 9:28 PM

Also, if I may point out...

What is that at the base of Mount Silver? Is that the Indigo Plataeu?

Haza June 17th, 2009 9:37 PM

I believe the part with clouds over it on Mt. Silver is the Shinto Temple.

joehat June 17th, 2009 9:51 PM

Haha thanks Haza, it's been so long since I last played Silver.

The new map really looks awesome. If they can squeeze all this (apparently) new stuff into the Johto region and have the Kanto region (albeit not as empty) as well..I'm pretty sure this game will be well worth the wait.

Just for the sake of it..

I'll put my two cents on Kyogre and Groudon being in Kanto. I wonder if they'll reimplement Dive spots?

Haza June 17th, 2009 9:55 PM

Im just speculating but it is highly possible that that is what it is. And you would not have remembered because the Shinto is not in the originals.

joehat June 17th, 2009 10:08 PM

Haha indeed I didn't remember.

All I remember outside of Mount Silver were some grassy patches and a Pokemon Center.

Haza June 17th, 2009 10:26 PM

#1 is very interesting on that map. Looks like soiome sort of resort area or something. At the top there are spots that look dedicated for certain different types of Pokemon.

Johto Map

For some reason- my laptop is really slow and I can't upload the picture I'm working from, but if you want it for reference to what I'm about to say, go ahead and email me at [email protected].

BLUE DOTS represent cities & towns. You should be able to recognise them.
PINK DOTS represent landmarks. Again, I shouldn't have to point them out.
RED CIRCLES represent what I think. Here I'll explain (starting from the new area by Cianwood moving east):

1) At the bottom of the new area, there seems to be a new network of caves.
2) This mansion everybody is on about. To be honest, I think its either a gateway into no. 3 area, or a house for the player like the one in the Resort Area in Platinum.
3) Six areas. This is definately a Pal Park. Look at the Six Areas and think: Field, Mountain, Forest, Sea, Pond. (YES I KNOW THERE ARE ONLY 5)
4) Clouds by Olivine. Hmmm... Funny Clouds can mean only one thing- A BATTLE FRONTIER!!
5) Big Yellow Patch. This is one of three things. a) Johto has a bad case of Forest Fires. b) Theres a really big desert above Johto thats gone unnoticed. c) Its the natural colour of the grass. Look at the picture of Ecruteak City on the official website, and glance towards Tin Tower, you'll know what I mean.
6) The bit by the National Park. I think this will be a Contest Hall, because there are loads of Ribbons now- and Johto Contests were mentioned in the anime.
7) The big tower. Now, I know some think its a revamped Radio Tower, but no. I can see the REAL radio tower next to it. This will most likely be a GTS, because of the PokeCom Center in the Japanese Crystal- they functioned about the same.
8) Mt Mortar. I know this already existed but there were only three entrances before. If you look really closely, while zoomed, there is a fourth entrance just above the middle one.
9) The river-delta thing by the Lake of Rage- they've either put in a new cave to help with Pokemon distribution or its related to the Team Rocket quest.
10) The two pools in Ilex Forest. Most likely just added for visual effect.

And that would be it. I like how all the new things are on the western side of the map. Also, do you think they will release a newer map of Kanto any time soon, since we know its in the games now?

Samme! June 18th, 2009 7:31 AM

Actually to let everybody know the orange blur above Ecruteak City is TREES! NORMAL TREES! I think they are called Enju Trees and are known for their orangey color.

jmadude June 18th, 2009 7:48 AM

There's a lot of people saying that the area left of Cianwood is a Pal Park because of the four areas, but that couldn't be a Pal Park because those area are way too big to be an area of the Pal Park. Maybe that area is something we have never seen before.

Artemis June 18th, 2009 8:26 AM

Honestly the idea of it being a Pal Park west of Cianwood for me just doesn't seem to click. I mean yes it would make sense to do so, but the new DSi not including the GBA slot makes there a chance for it not to return to another 4th generation game. The four divided areas however make it noticeable and makes the possibility differ. My thought would probably go to a new park, such as the Safari Zone. The reason why is because the Bug Catching Park was more bug related types and didn't give more a variety in Pokémon other than this basic set. Not to forget, the Safari Zone for Kanto was closed before in the originals, so recreating one in Johto would seem beneficial. It would also bring in more of a variety unlike the park and enlarge the city's place of use. I wouldn't mind seeing a Safari Zone placed here, but I'd like to look into it more as information becomes further released by next month or so. There are different ideas for this location though, and I'm sure at least one of them might have a higher possibility of being true than the next.

incognito322 June 18th, 2009 12:37 PM

@ Hiroshi Sotomura: The whole cramped metropolis thing made the city seem much more bigger, seeing as it occupied the same amount of space as Ecruteak, Violet, Olivine and Blackthorn Cities. Plus, not all of the city was narrow. The main road running north-south was a wide boulevard, as was the street running just south of the train tracks. But if it's for the better, I suppose you're right.

And remarking on the golden/orange forest: i think it was a decorative attribute to the Tin Tower and the presence of HeartGold and Gold's legendary Pokemon. I'm sure the whirl islands will get some special attribute, but because the caves are subterranean (or even oceanic for that matter), it is unlikely we'll see what has changed until the game's Japanese release or just get it ourselves. I don't know if the area near Cianwood is a Safari Zone or a Pal Park, but because these two games will offer pretty much the first 251 Pokemon and then some, the only reason why they would include it is for the RSE games. Because i believe that Kanto won't deviate much from the original storyline that took place in GSC, it's probably a Safari Zone. If it's post-Elite Four, it could possibly offer RSE Pokemon.

sonicisrad June 18th, 2009 11:33 PM

I reckon the tall building in Goldenrod is the Radio Tower.

HeartGoldnSoulSilver June 19th, 2009 1:51 AM

I wonder what those new places are.

I doubt that area has any importance to it. It's most likely just part of the map and there to simply add landscape.

Although, It would be nice if they did add some sort of event there. Walking through that forest of orangey Enju Trees(thanks to samme426 for the name), would probably be really eye pleasing.

1ninjadude1701 June 19th, 2009 7:22 AM

the map looks INSANE thanks for the map

Agreed. We see some trees in Enju in one of the screenshots with some golden leaves hanging down, so I'm starting to get the impression that the Tin Tower area will be really autumn-like. (The reason why is something we need to find out.)

Wel if you check the burnt tower shot the tree is half gold and green so it seems they will transition it in somehow. I say this cause we will pop into some gold looking area near the tin tower from a gold green treed area. Pretty sweet if you ask me.

Mitchman June 19th, 2009 12:19 PM

Battle tower confirmed. Sorta. Kinda. Okay its a damn outline that's all!

=D Sorry for the title and how I had a monologue rant there. *cough*
http://www.filb.de/kaihou/content/20090615_hgss_johto-karte.jpg
If you zoom in a lot(max if you will) where the clouds are next to Olivine over the old tower area you can clearly see an outline of a tower. Now look here:
http://i775.photobucket.com/albums/yy36/MyNameIsGoddess/tower.png
Its even more clear! So do you think they will fit only the tower or 5 full facilties? I believe that either 3 spaced out facilties will be in or 5 of them cramped together. I wouldn't mind the cramped part as well less time to get around and I would love 5 facilties.

BeachBoy June 19th, 2009 12:26 PM

I'd take anything, honestly. If there's anything more than the tower, awesome, if not, I'll live.

As a BT maniac, I love the sight of that image. <3

[ I don't think the first link works properly, btw. o.o I just see the site logo ]

Mitchman June 19th, 2009 12:31 PM

Yeah sorry I realised that a while a go just go to filb and search for the map. Funny it works for the linker but not the viewers.
http://www.filb.de/1083
Anyway yeah anything will do but I can see it happening. A frontier that is. And hey this is clicking in with crystal features being added.*pokes Suicunes ledge in Cianwood*. But that's not the topic! If a frontier is added what would the facilties be and such?

Game Over1375 June 19th, 2009 12:35 PM

The Pokemon Factory is just about guaranteed if there will be a Frontier, and there just has to be a Battle Tower. However, I'm not gonna get my hopes up too much.
