Thanks for trying to help, but.. it's probably better to leave it to staff to reply to these questions. Among other reasons it ensures the person asking them knows they're getting an accurate answer.

Not meaning to be offensive, but isn't that kind of degrading to regular members? Making them sound like they aren't as smart as the staff? Also, I've never been told not to do that before and, in fact, I've been praised in the past.

Isn't that a bit much?

Yes, but that isn't to say that any other member shouldn't be able to answer a simple question such as that one.

I have to agree that really simple questions such as "can I get my name changed now?" can be answered by normal members who have been here for at least a month.

But other questions should just be answered by staff. It's not degrading, really.

Let's look at it another way: A lot of members would rather hear that kind of thing right from the staff. I know I was always a bit arrogant in the sense that if someone on staff didn't say it, it's not official.

Which leaves the staff just repeating what people say when they finally do get around to it and let me tell you, that is one of the most annoying things to have to do.

I hold the view that it should be done only if you're absolutely certain about how things work...because I've seen the question answered wrongly even by people who've been here for a at least month, before.

(Oh, how many times I've had to explain just how we count, to people...)

Though, to speak personally, I still wish people would hold off from just randomly replying to questions in that thread (although since I know it's usually done with good intentions, I just tend to ignore it). It's not because of any degradation of members or anything or because I think they can't answer questions, but only because it personally tends to throw me off whenever I'm changing names (I quote everyone who needs a reply, and since I refuse to repeat an answer...well), especially if I'm having to deal with a lot at once...

Throws me out of my groove or something, and does nothing but confuse and aggravate me. :(

^ This pretty much!

I mean, if I asked something that I didn't know to do with the forum, I would rather it be answered by a staff member. Nothing personal against regular members, but they are, most likely, going to know more details than someone else...

As for the "Name Change Thread" I posted in there a few times and then though. "Why?"
I think the staff should just deal with the replies to that thread.

You were simply helping out, so there is nothing wrong with that, but it is their section.

Now that I've had time to think about it, I do understand what you were getting at, Audy. Sorry. Although, I'm still kind of ticked off about the negative rep, whoever it was that gave me it.

Well, I don't agree that regular members shouldn't be able to help, but the Name Change thread really should only be used by people who are requesting name changes and admins that are responding to posts in that thread. When there is such an enormous work load, it is much better to have as few posts as possible in that thread. Making additional posts for things that will obviously be answered by an admin just confuses them, as Jess said.
