Annoying part of Platinum

Hey guys, back from the dead!

So what do you think about having the 5th gym leader first? I found that very annoying, spent a couple of hours trying to get to route 209, but then figured out that Fantina was third. How. Annoying. :(

Wings Don't Cry June 19th, 2009 1:39 AM

Well I read one of those walkthroughs and checked the difference section between Platinum and Diamond/Pearl so I knew where to go for the third gym leader however I was stuck for ages on Diamond trying to figure out how to get Fantina to go back to her gym until my friend told me she's the 5th gym leader

poke-ranger June 19th, 2009 1:43 AM

I think its better! I got stuck in Diamond :( I def prefer it this way!

Satoshi Ookami June 19th, 2009 3:25 AM

It's much better. I guess it might be the reason why Platinum is easier then D/P

thorn96 June 19th, 2009 4:20 AM

Don't get me wrong, it's a lot easier. It's just annoying for people like me who have beaten Diamond and Pearl and know the order of the gyms inside out. It also means you learn Fly later, which annoys me. But over all, it is pretty good I guess...

Captain Fabio June 19th, 2009 5:08 AM

There is nothing like running around for hours on end with no bike >.>

But as always, they wanted to change the order around and cause a bit of disruption. If they kept it the same, then it would feel like the same game.
Personally, although it looks the same in a lot of parts, I liked it and believed it to be its own game. Not a knock off.

Vie June 19th, 2009 5:19 AM

There weren't any problems for...I didn't even notice a difference...wait, maybe I did and I forgot. xD But I can remember that I did the badges in the right order without struggling.

Ayselipera June 19th, 2009 6:01 AM

I liked it better because it gave the game structure.
Before you could of just gone to Pastoria and Veilstone
and defeating the leaders there and rushed back to
defeat Fantina. The new way gave you a path to
follow in so you weren't done with the game as quickly.

templekeeper June 19th, 2009 7:25 AM

The title is too opinionated; I thought the most annoying part of Pt was fighting Volkner and Flint to get into the BF. Whatever...

Gues what? There's no set Gym order. Thinking otherwise is something the games have improperly drilled into your head. We know for a fact that Sinnoh has >8 Gyms and that you need not go Roark-->Gardenia-->Maylene-->...and so forth. The fact that Pt switched it up increased the difficulty since you couldn't rely on a Flyer for two Gyms in a row or so. I suspect they had to change it since her old Gym was way too simple for the vast majority of players. And who's to complain about Gym redesigns? They only made the remake better-quality...

thorn96 June 19th, 2009 5:54 PM

I like the re-design for the gym. It's a lot more challenging. All I'm saying is that it's annoying. That's it.

Sweet Smoochum June 19th, 2009 9:20 PM

I can understand where you're coming from. I looked at Serebii before playing, so that's how I knew that Fantina was the third gym leader. However, I can understand that happening to someone who played Diamond/Pearl and didn't know about that change in Platinum. I was actually glad I was able to battle Fantina in Platinum earlier. I never read the book that comes in the package with the game. I just play the game once I get it because I'm that excited. That would be like playing FireRed and Leafgreen and finding out that you could have battled Blaine earlier (4th gym instead of seventh) by taking a boat in Vermilion.

viemortevolroc June 19th, 2009 9:50 PM

i foudn it a pain in the butt fightn fantina 3rd during my first go on platinum cuz i used chimchar but on my 2nd go i beat her wit my quilava wit 1hp left lol (yes i used action replay to get cyndaquil at lake valor, and yes im proud of that, and yes cyndaquil is the best beginner/pokemon ever XD lol)

kill and run June 19th, 2009 11:34 PM

Ive noticed an annoyence in poke radaring in the Trophy Garden, i just find it rlly annoying lol, it could just be me

Ecks-Dee June 20th, 2009 12:25 AM

I didn't find Fantina as the 3rd gym leader hard at all. I just knew when it happened, maybe because i just ventured in, thinking she was going to send me away, but i ended up fighting her XD

groudonlover June 20th, 2009 1:29 AM

...great... now you get stuck at the 3rd leader instead of the 5th... i preferred to get stuck at the 5th.
I completely hate her Mismagius, she OHKO's my Rotom with a Shadow Ball, Staravia with Psybeam and then the rest with either more Shadow Balls or Magical Leaf.

Blaziquaza June 20th, 2009 2:12 AM

I dunno.Cynthia? She was annoying for me with her Garchomp.Geez,I needed a Lv85 Giratina for that...

derozio June 20th, 2009 3:00 AM

I always read the walkthrough or gather information about the game BEFORE I play the game so I never end up in a situation. But I think I would really be annoyed if I would have been in a situation like thatX_X.

Yay! Someone shares my opinion! Her retard of a Mismagius OHKO'd my level 29 Grotle which was on full health!! Then I wiped her out with my ultra awesome Flareon.

DuelTypeFlareon June 21st, 2009 3:07 AM

It took me forever to figure out that the 5th was now the 3rd.
My Luxray cleaned her up good though, it leveled up while I was flailing around, trying to get to the next town. :3

Frostdog June 21st, 2009 3:22 AM

It wasn't too bad for me. I had to keep reminding myself along the way that that particular part was different so I didn't waste a whole bunch of time and get frustrated.

Jordan... June 21st, 2009 3:25 AM

I Thought platinum was easy. I didnt get stuck with anything.

LegenZs June 21st, 2009 9:12 AM

The Distoration World Was Extremely Annoying!
And The Fact That Fantina Was 3rd and that really annnoyed me because my level 29 monderno just kept getting PWNED!

~LegenZs

Zelda June 21st, 2009 10:38 AM

Well it can be annoying if you want to beat the game fast and you're trying hard to figure out how to get that next badge. However, I don't really mind the 5th Gym Leader being the 3rd Gym Leader. The only thing that I think could've been changed was the order of the Gym Case badges; that's one of the reasons on how it confuses us. Fantina is still on the 5th place for the badge, and I would have liked it to be on the 3rd place since Fantina is now the 3rd Gym Leader. Other than that, I didn't really mind Fantina being the 3rd Gym Leader in Platinum.

Munch Dog June 21st, 2009 10:58 AM

I didn't find her moving to the third gym leader annoying, just the fight with her itself. I beat her on my first try but MAN she really ticked me off while fighting her. Her pokemon were so annoying! I wasn't too fond of the distortion world either, it was kind of boring, and I almost gave up on trying to capture Giratina because it kept running out of PP and killing itself with struggle. Sometimes I don't even know why I bother trying to catch legendaries anymore, I rarely use them and they're so annoying to catch. At least now it's not like it was in RBY where you could "miss" the pokemon.

Misheard Whisper June 21st, 2009 8:23 PM

The Distortion World was a pain, and Fantina was hard to beat. But I knew well in advance that she'd been moved, so I had no trouble. You know, my team was underleveled for EVERY major battle in the game, ie Gym Leaders and Galactic Commanders, up till Aaron. After beating Volkner, I went back and bumped my team up 10 levels each, so that helped me sweep the E4. It had nothing whatsoever to do with the level 84 Blastoise that I didn't trade from Diamond.

Munch Dog June 21st, 2009 10:15 PM

Yeah, I was under leveled for most of the major battles too, especially Cynthia. Though I was able to pull through the E4 thanks to type advantages and a crap load of full restores and revives.

JustinDestruction June 21st, 2009 10:50 PM

Yeah, it bothered me a bit. I like seeing things in order, so it was a slight OCD moment for me.

Camisado June 21st, 2009 10:53 PM

I didn't have any problems with Fantina in Platinum at all ._.;; I beat her on my first attempt - she caused me more problems in Diamond and Pearl.

Pokedex filling, and the pleasure of knowing that you have a non-hacked Pokemon that can pwn. :)

Munchkin2z3 June 21st, 2009 11:07 PM

Fantina is actually the third gym leader?!?!?!?!? I just discovered that O_o After i beat her yesterday i thought i missed 2 gyms accidentally lol and Im stuck at that part right now ^_^

Inferno1 June 21st, 2009 11:12 PM

i think the most annoying part of platinum is all the fricken talking like it is ok the first time you play but i think the talking is about twice as much as in diamond and pearl i just think they went over board

I prefer battling with Pokémon that I've raised throughout the game, and I know I can't be bothered to level Giratina up to the level of the others now xD

Is it bad that I don't really bother with filling the Pokédex? I mean, I SEE them all, but I don't particularly want to catch them all.

Yeah, I'm the same way. I feel kind of cheap using legendaries in battles, especially against an actual person, and I've never filled completely filled up the pokedex in any of the games, and I've been playing since R/B/Y.

alyssa marie June 22nd, 2009 12:26 AM

That was annoying, but it frustrated me a lot less than stupid Mt. Coronet. I hate that place.-___-

In all honesty, I'm glad I'm not the only one. I swear, I have so much of a hard time beating her... in Diamond/Pearl, it was so easy to level up too but in Platinum, I pretty much DREAD going to beat her because it's...ugh.

Wait... are you talking about Fatina...?

AGREED! I found it so hard to navigate the first time, and its just not fun! :(

The Wave June 22nd, 2009 1:04 PM

Till now, the only thing that annoys me in Platinum is that the Gym Leaders are a little harder than in Diamond/Pearl. It's not much harder, but enough to make me lose from them, while I beat Diamond with only losing from the E4 a few times.

... anyone else agree that this is REALLY ANNOYING??? I had all my Pokes on equal levels except for my Torterra which was about 5 levels above. Then I went up against Wake and against all odds his freakin' Floatzel Ko'd my strongest Poke!! I had to restart the game from the Lakeside Hotel so I could put all those EXP that I evenly divided between all my pokes into my Torterra to beef him up, so that he actually stood a fighting chance! So bloody annoying!!!

I didn't think that was annoying at all. In fact, I thought of it more as a challenge. We see harder gyms, we train harder so we can make out Pokemon better overall. Not everything that's harder is necessarily annoying, they're just more of a challenge.

The only thing I found hard was the Distortion World. It was a really difficult maze to navigate through and most of it took me a long time.

billa June 23rd, 2009 10:13 PM

i found platinum alot easyer than diamond and didn't get stuck as much.

I agree that it's more challenging, and thus more fun and better. But it's just plain annoying that I have to train more than normal.

....No wait, I never really trained that much, this is the first Pokemon game I actually have to train hard!

dtrain24 June 24th, 2009 1:04 PM

Its better in Platinum, less confusing and a bit easier.

salmence33 June 24th, 2009 2:58 PM

It is annoying since you don't have acess to a lot of pokemon

SylentEcho June 25th, 2009 1:24 AM

+1.

Threre are hardly any Pokemon from Kanto and Jhoto. It gets kind of annoying at times because the old Pokemon kicked ass.

thorn96 June 25th, 2009 1:50 AM

............................ okay, new thing. Has anyone noticed that Giratina is IMPOSSIBLE TO CATCH?! I've failed about 7 times! ARRRGGGHHH!!!!! How do you do that without a masterball?!

Munch Dog June 25th, 2009 7:20 AM

Yeah I know... I already talked about my troubles with giratina somewhere in this thread so I don't think I should post it again.

Yeah, I know. I caught him eventually, but it took forever, and I thought I was gonna run out of balls. Now off to pwn Sunyshore...

Foxnordic June 26th, 2009 10:02 AM

cynthia was the worst in pearl, it took me about a 45 min battle to defeat her (it was very intense)

~*!*~Tatsujin Gosuto~*!*~ June 27th, 2009 7:56 AM

It was the Distortion World for me, it was confusion even with the guide book. It was also random that my Shuppet's egg hatched in their as well and I named it Distortion

:t354:TG

Brendonwii July 4th, 2009 5:21 PM

The most annoying part in platinum was that the new pokedex you have to get 210 pokemon (or seen)
I found it pretty hard in pearl to get 150 to get to the survival zone.

notoriouslybizarre July 4th, 2009 5:24 PM

Annoying part from Platinum is catching Giratina. It took forever

Pokestick, good times. July 8th, 2009 1:07 PM

I prefer havin' her as #3. That's it. The only bad part is that her Pokémon actually got weaker than in the previous games, and she deserves more Pokémon... It's good that Game Freak took some courage and actually changed Gym leader order for once. (If you don't count the Kantoh leaders in GSC)

Skullking17 July 8th, 2009 1:17 PM

I hate how in platinum Fantina is still in the fith spot on the badge case. Whats with that!?

Brendonwii July 9th, 2009 2:01 AM

Why do people hate that you have to get the 3rd gym badge so much?
It was not hard or annoying.

Matt Silver July 9th, 2009 2:26 AM

Annoying part in Platinum...

Nothing, really. There was some light challenge with the game to be had compared to DP, but I did all good in the end. About the gym leader switcheroo, I could see how that would piss people off, but I knew beforehand, so I was cherry.

derozio July 9th, 2009 3:24 AM

I recently defeated the third gym with ease. Nothing annoying really...

ClassicPokemon July 9th, 2009 3:53 AM

More challenge is what the Pokeon games always needed, although they still should be harder IMO. If you guys want to charge through the game with your only training being defeating other players (no wild pokemon) then just choose one of the 3 starter pokemon, use only that pokemon for the entire game up until the elite 4. At this point catch all the legendaries possible, buy some full restores and some revives and it's done. Your all struggling because you try to make a 6 man equal team.

I'll still use a 6 man team, because it's more fun, requires more strategy and is more of a challenge. Whats the fun in everything being easy?

Pokemon_Ron July 9th, 2009 12:16 PM

the gym leader switch with fantina 3rd didnt piss me off. my gligar sweeped her :)

but the distortion world was annoying and overrated

Sweet Smoochum July 9th, 2009 12:18 PM

That wasn't annoying. It was actually less annoying. I got to battle Fantina sooner. It was better.

If you ask me, I think some of music in DP and Platinum was bleh. No offense to anyone who likes that rustic music. (I didn't like Eterna, Celestic, or Solaceon's music. :cer_no:)

Dasseo July 9th, 2009 1:26 PM

It threw me off a bit, but I always check the gym leaders of the town before moving on so it didn't make me waste any effort.

ShadowOfTheRebellion July 9th, 2009 5:25 PM

I guess shouldn't complain, because everything that bugged me was mostly my fault. The third pokemon I caught was a level 6 magikarp and decided to get it to a gyarados before training anything else, making everything else severely underleveled , and leaving it severely underleveled. That made it hard to finish my real goal of beating the pokemon league with the first 6 pokemon I got in-game (I also boycot legendaries and only get them to collect, I never use them.) Lucian was the hardest battle of the whole thing because i refused to use Giratina and had no type advantages whatsoever. I startd with 50 revives and 45 max potions...I finished the pokemon league with 2 revives left XD. But I can't really complain, those were all my fault.
P.S. Did anyone else notice that Wake was extremely hard?

Yes. I talked about this earlier in the thread... it was really annoying. Now a lot of the Pokemon that I started off with are about 15 levels under because I couldn't raise them all enough for the Elite 4, so I changed my 6 man team into a 3 man team of Torterra, Flareon and Giratina and it still took me multiple tries to beat Cynthia.

BTW...

I agree, but I liked the Eterna/Celestic music. The Oreburg (can't spell the damn thing) music and the ever present Pokecenter music annoyed the crap out of me. But the Cyrus Battle and Lake Trio Battle musics both kick ass. :P

Trio Of The Lakes. July 9th, 2009 6:36 PM

The most annoying part for me was definately ... without a doubt ... Candice's gym and her pokemon set ... if there is one thing my party is weak to ... it's Ice.

ChronicEdge July 9th, 2009 6:39 PM

>_> I knew nothing of this.

Thanks for the warning, I'll watch out for that when I start playing Platinum.

Yeah, I really hate legendaries, except for me uber Suicune from Colloseum, which I STILL don't use because I find them unfair. I never tried to fill a pokedex either, until Leaf Green, where I am only 16 pokemon away from finishing the Kanto Dex

PokeBabe July 10th, 2009 9:11 PM

I was suprised but kind of expected it. I just had a feeling that when i saw those two trainers blocking the path to Veilstone/Pastoria I was like oh i probabaly have to beat Fantina. I personally think she was a breeze with even low leveled Pokemon (Manaphy-lv24, Luxray-lv30, Monferno-lv27)
and it didnt annoy me quite too much. i actually thought it was a nice little twist :P

Destiny Bond July 19th, 2009 11:49 PM

The elite four, fantina and the master rank contests are all really annoying to beat. Especiall once you complete the national pokedex, the elite four goes harder.

mew² July 20th, 2009 5:08 AM

I can't say it was hard. The only thing is it confused me of which gym is what number. :s

Zero Avenged July 20th, 2009 5:32 AM

I liked it....I wasn't expecting the order to change and it was pretty cool

Archer July 20th, 2009 5:36 AM

The only battle that I found a problem was Cyrus in the Torn World. I was a little underlevelled, due to training 4 pokemon at an even rate through the game. I just wasn't ready to take Gyarados, and Houndoom was a pain, too. I would have done some grinding if it wasn't damn-near impossible to get out.

If you want a real challenge, try monotype runs. :cer_nod:

As strange as it sounds, I think it's actually possible to fight Blaine in fourth.

But on topic, I didn't find the fact that Fantina was in third annoying at all. Sure, it made things a lot harder, and I had to use a lot of items to beat her, but I still managed it with a party of an average level of 22.

Personally, I think the most annoying gym leader, for me, was Crasher Wake, since I strayed off my usual route and dumped my Luxio at Eterna City.

AlphaMightyena July 20th, 2009 7:02 AM

i don't like how the highest pokemon you can catch in platinum is megikarp, but at least you get to have a awsome lv. 100 gyarados without mutch effort.
