Espeon or Umbreon?

Hey i just wanna know which one you like the most and i would appreciate it if you told me why! - thanks

Aro-kun June 21st, 2009 7:02 PM

Well Espeon is more of a sweeper. Take em out quick with few attacks, but it goes down way too easy......its a glass cannon....

Umbreon isn't a sweeper or an attacker type......umbreon is more for stalling, being annoying as heck and its kinda a tank. so i perfer umbreon, the doubleteam like crazy+Moonlight+Toxic cheap as heck ninja pokemon XD

Limey-chan June 21st, 2009 7:05 PM

Toughie. Espeon has the superior moveset (Seriously, why didn't they give Umbreon Crunch???), but I think Umbreon looks better.

I love them both, but I think Umbreon just about edges it based on aesthetics and personal preference.

Pink Twilight June 21st, 2009 7:07 PM

well i think espeon is more of a speed stat pokemon. gets the pokemon out quick and easy and thats my strategy, so im going with espeon. i luv umbreona and comes in a close second, but it has low stats and is more of a defense pokemon and im more of an offense trainer.

SuperLightning June 21st, 2009 7:10 PM

um...actually Espeon is better Game-wise. But i like Umbreon cause he looks cool.

hm...I just noticed hes named after the umbra part of an eclipse. cool

alyssa marie June 21st, 2009 7:11 PM

I like Espeon better battle wise and looks wise.

Espeon, it's always good to have a Psychic type close by and this is one of the best attackers of the group, while also easy to get. With a defense improving item and RETURN in its roster, this thing is a beast.

Plus, I like lavender.

As a prefered offensive trainer, I think it's best to have at least one tank/annoyer in your party. Umbreon is just that for myself when I play in-game. It can take its fair share of hits, and with Toxic and Confuse Ray combined, its a deadly combination. When I was slightly underleveled for Champion Cynthia, Umbreon with Toxic really did work on Garchomp and the like.

If you prefer Espeon, thats perfectly fine and I respect that, but I just prefer Umbreon for the reasons I stated above.

XxDawnfanxX June 21st, 2009 7:35 PM

I love all the Eevee evolutions, these two are both very unique. Umbreon looks badass and his dark type makes him even cooler, while Espeon holds an advantage in battle with physic moves which is a big advantage. However, you can't count Umbreon out although it is outmatched by speed, and general attack, Umbreons defense makes up for it and not to mention Umbreon has the type advantage. It would make for an interesting battle for sure.

JP June 21st, 2009 8:06 PM

Umbreon for me, because of how cool it is and how it can be used in battle.

would it really matter? Umbreon's attacking stats are beyond pathetic anyway =/

Conman June 21st, 2009 8:44 PM

Umbreon of course, it's dark, looks cool, and has the theme of the moon and night time. Doesn't hurt that it's also my 2nd favorite Pokemon XD.
Espeon is just, IDK, doesn't really make an impact on me in anyway and doesn't stand out visually in my eyes.

I overall I like Espeon better. It has great sp.attack that lets it take out other pokemon easily while Umbreon's attack and sp. attack aren't that great. And I would rather have a pokemon that can make a hit rather than take a blow.

I will admit though that Umbreon does look cooler.

Legobricks June 22nd, 2009 8:20 AM

Umbreon. I'm not elegant, I want a killer Pokemon.

⋚Raika⋚ June 22nd, 2009 8:27 AM

Espeon. I dunno why though, but ever since these 2 eveelutions have been introduced I liked Espeon better.

True Reign June 22nd, 2009 10:31 AM

They are both one of my favorite Pokemon, but I chose Umbreon just because it's black and it's typing is dark.

nakoma June 22nd, 2009 11:36 AM

I would have to go with espeon. I dunno why but the way it looks and its move set appeal more to me then umbreons do. Not to mention psychic types are crazy awsome.

Satoshi Ookami June 22nd, 2009 11:44 AM

Umbreon 'cause it's Dark :D

The Wave June 22nd, 2009 1:36 PM

Espeon. Whether she's a good battler or not, I just love her so much more than Umbreon.

Giraffes? Giraffes! June 22nd, 2009 1:43 PM

I like Umbreons overall look and they are both neat Pokemon, although..Umbreon is just amazing :D

CyanideEspeon June 22nd, 2009 5:01 PM

I really love them both, but Espeon.

Lana. June 22nd, 2009 5:28 PM

*eyetwitch*

I'm going to have to go with Espeon. The speed and killer special attack win it. But Umbreon is a veeeery close second.

twigzy June 22nd, 2009 7:21 PM

I wish you could have espeon attack power with umbreons HP. I like them both but espeon looks to girly so I like umbreon. :)

Time Master June 22nd, 2009 7:39 PM

Espeon rocks. Years ago I was sure Umbreon was better but no more! What is the point of Defense when in one or two attacks your enemy is down?

alisaie June 22nd, 2009 7:50 PM

I would have to say Espeon. I've always preferred it over Umbreon, game-wise or not. But as for gamewise experience, I think my Espeon has been able to help me more than my Umbreon on my Crystal, though my Umbreon has done a good amount of helping, with it's stalling.

But, yeah. Espeon has done a lot for me, and I've been able to use it more often than my Umbreon. So, Espeon. :3

jaimelectric June 22nd, 2009 7:54 PM

Like many people in this thread, I do like both. I'll have to side with Umbreon on this one because my teams usually already have something that hits hard and fast like Espeon. Umbreon is one of the pokemon that gives my team a little diversity, and it's super funny to use against wi-fi battlers.

Oh, The Places You'll Go. June 22nd, 2009 8:06 PM

Espeon is prefered by me.
Never liked Umbreon, at all really. (Don't hate me! :3)
I guess I was always that little girl who loved the sunshine.
Don't get me wrong, I love dark types, but Umbreon seemed to scare me. Its glow, maybe? Ha.

FreakyLocz14 June 22nd, 2009 8:21 PM

Espeon because it's my type specialty... Psychic!

Shiny Star_Pichu June 22nd, 2009 9:03 PM

I like Espeon because I think it is cool. I like the cool attack. =D

Serene Grace June 22nd, 2009 9:32 PM

Umbreon has really cool looks. In the Anime and the games, It's sprites and looks just make it angry and beautiful. I also like the fact that It's dark and it glows.

It's also my choice for in-game. It's a great staller and tank and can't get taken down easily.

Pokeyomom June 22nd, 2009 9:32 PM

Umbra= shadow:) I believe it's a latin derivative. (I could just be blowing smoke out my @ss, so feel free to correct me lol.).

But ehhhh this one is hard. Love 'em both, but Umbreon is da sheezy. It's so phantom/ninja esque.

Gary, the Magic Fairy June 22nd, 2009 9:48 PM

Espeon.

Being able to predict the weather and the actions of your enemies is much more awesome than sweating poison and glowing. I mean, wtf is with that?

Silvergale June 22nd, 2009 10:03 PM

I love them both so it's a really hard decision, but since I gotta
make up my mind, I like Espeon better.

Inferno1 June 22nd, 2009 10:33 PM

i voted umberon only because it is dark and mysterious

kurusakiz June 22nd, 2009 11:19 PM

i prefer espeon, its a good sweeper =D

Expada June 22nd, 2009 11:45 PM

I prefer Umbreon, because

1. It comes from the Latin Umbra- Which means Shade, and I name most of my female characters Umbra.

2. I love darkness

derozio June 23rd, 2009 5:02 AM

Espeon is a much much better sweeper than Umbreon but it cannot take many hits. Umbreon can't attack heavily because of those crappy offences but is very strong defensively and can be used as stalling. Both have different roles: Espeon-Sweeper, Umbreon-Tank. I prefer Umbreon as he is better looking and he can annoy as hell!!

That is the same reason that I prefer Umbreon.

Cavan_II June 25th, 2009 2:25 AM

I prefer Umbreon; I like how his black color and red eyes give it a look of something menacing, yet cool.

I'm also a fan of its battling capabilities. Endurance is always a positive.

HirakuNoShadow June 25th, 2009 2:34 AM

Power and speed-wise - I'd prefer Espeon
Defensive and Coolness-wise - Definitely Umbreon

But nevertheless, I use Umbreon more than Espeon in the game

sanoj94 June 25th, 2009 2:38 AM

umbreon cuz he is stronger

Ho-Oh June 25th, 2009 5:21 AM

Espeon. It's cuter.. and appears to be stronger. :D

Superjub June 25th, 2009 11:30 AM

I love Espeon! :D *cough*Old username*cough* It's like my, joint-first favourite Pokemon ever. :D I just love everything about it.

Umbreon looks good too, though. :)

Raykon June 25th, 2009 6:52 PM

I like Umbreon a lot more then Espeon, in the game Espeon is a lot better that's for sure imo.

SuperBob June 25th, 2009 6:54 PM

I love Umbreon for its defenses. :O

This. I'm not sure why I like Espeon better looks-wise, I just always have. I really like Umbreon, too, though...they are my #2 and #3 respectively on my list of my favorite Eeveelutions.

Doctortux June 26th, 2009 8:21 AM

I think Espeon is better. It's moves like phsycic and return do extremely well in battle while most of Umbreon's moves like crunch and bite stink. The only good move it learns is shadow ball. I also think Espeon is better is because it looks better. Umbreon looks cool too but that gem in the center of Espeon's forehead really got me. Like somebody else said, it makes it look really wise and powerfull, which it has proven itself to be.

CrazyCubone June 26th, 2009 9:04 AM

I base my decision on looks. I used to prefer Umbreon, but recently I've been leaning towards Espeon, so I picked Espeon.

Switchback June 26th, 2009 9:21 AM

Umbreon by miles.

It looks better, sounds better and survives in battle which I can't say for Espeon. Sure it's powerful, like most Psychic Pokemon if not all, but one hit and half the time it's KO'd due to bad defenses.

Umbreon however is old reliable, sturdy in battle and hilarious when fighting over game link watching your opponent become so frustrated at finally whittling down it's HP then watching you use Moonlight. Then good old Toxic kills off their last Pokemon while you sit there grinning like a Cheshire Cat.

Good times.

TheAliveTrain June 26th, 2009 1:08 PM

Umbreon

He is cool and he's a Dark type, which is one of my favorites. Also on battle he is so annoying because it can turn hard to defeat. (Who remembers Karen from G/S/C?)

Saltare. June 27th, 2009 6:17 AM

Umbreon, all the way.

I love darks.

Dark overpowers psychic so Umbreon would pwn Espeon in a battle.

~*!*~Tatsujin Gosuto~*!*~ June 27th, 2009 2:26 PM

Umbreon, hands down because I can't stand Espeon

Umbrephlosion November 10th, 2014 7:28 PM

personally i prefer umbreon. if you manage to get good IVs and EVs its better than you think.
Killer moveset-
Dark pulse (a pretty good dark move. stab and those alakazams wont know what hit em!)
Psychic (a great TM move to counter those lucarios.)
confuse ray (a great way to make your enemy rage quit.)
Last resort (just a good solid move to have.)

i dont like to use toxic on an umbreon cuz most pokemon actually can learn this move. if u train ur 'breon right it can actually hold its own and take out a few pokemon.

Please don't post in dead threads. This thread has not seen light for 4 and a half year, so it's def stone cold dead. Feel free to remake the topic over in Pokemon Polls for some fresh opinions.
