HeartGold SoulSilver Commercial [updated]

A commercial has just been released for HGSS. This is the very first time it has appeared on TV and there are some new cut scenes which are evident. Tell us what you think...

It shows Ho-Oh and Lugia a couple more times, it looks like the Pokemon will COME OUT when you make it use an HM.

[edit update by staff: clear video uploaded online]

The Roshi July 2nd, 2009 5:43 PM

Aww man those cut scenes are AWESOME! But... I didn't see the part where the pokemon came out when it used an HM. Probably just me. Nice update. Btw I think I've seen some of your walkthroughs. Have you ever done rijon?

WisherWisherWish July 2nd, 2009 5:48 PM

What id like is a GOOD, HIGH QUALITY video of it for me to see without any background noises.

Unknown Entity July 2nd, 2009 6:08 PM

Makes me want to play it even more, I can't wait till it's released here. Those Cut scenes were cool. OwO

I have done Rijon, but my narration sucked at that time. If you watch, please remember I was not at my fullest.

YellowPen July 2nd, 2009 8:04 PM

it shows a couple of different double battle, and they are always fun

cant wait for a better quality version to come up

Hypergaming July 4th, 2009 2:09 PM

Nice, I like the new animated shots.

Looks like the poke-following is optional! (No its not gym only since soul had her chikorita in morty's gym)

Hypergaming July 4th, 2009 2:45 PM

route 30 does look amazing, and at kyledove, I didn't notice that. How interesting!?!?!?!??1

Ayselipera July 4th, 2009 3:29 PM

I Love the fall scenes they look amazing.
I'm even more excited now!

Blackthorn looks awesome! Also like how your pokemon don't have to follow you at all times...... And definitely lovin how the HM moves are animated and actually shown being done :)

Wow this looks emense!
The Pokemon Company really know how to make people anticipate thing!

There are if you count the Johto map which also shows the Elite Four place which is in Kanto... and routes leading from Victory Road to Viridian as well.

I quite liked the trailer - a lot of nice stuff there. Let's see...hmm, feel going going through it part by part. New Bark town from a higher angle and all, followed by Goldenrod! Yay. Compared to GSC... well, by the sign above the Pokemon Centre, Game Corner is back in the same spot by random guessing... same for the Dept. Store. The buildings below... looks like some are unable to be accessed... but seem bigger and all as well. Plus there's at least a new NPC there. Hmm... idk, but *maybe* goldenrod is at least a little bit bigger?

Ecruteak Tin Tower Gate shown again, and then the Ho-oh and Lugia scenes which look really nice. (Hurrah for the English 'Touch to Start!' pics as well XD). I prefer Lugia's personally, but both are good. Then there's starter choosing, and Tin Tower, I assume. Man, those tress and scenery look *fantastic*, IMO. Then it's the girl protagonist walking with Chikorita (Dance Theatre!), Slowpoke Well again (it is slight bigger in that part!... obviously).

Pokemon starters like to dance, it seems, and Chikorita uses Cut on a tree - neat. BUT - note that when Chikorita does that (0:31 - 0:34) - there's a tree there standing in the clearing. Looking unlike any other Berry tree, without any soil there... and it's not a Sudowoodo either. Could this be an Apricorn tree?

Then Pokedex stuff - seen that before - Ho-oh again, and... Clair's gym looks considerably more awesome (looks like her gym, leastways), with the lava and new/somewhat changed gym puzzle! And Pokemon don't always necessarily follow you, it seems... good for those who hate the idea, I suppose? Chikorita attacks a Mareep, Monty's Gym puzzle is at least the same idea, and looks considerably more awesome now...yadda yadda yadda.

And the other thing of note is that Cianwood again has the house north of it - the one in Crystal! And there's a path further north... seems to me at least another hint of Eusine and the Suicune subplot returning to HG/SS - after all, there is the same area there, after all. Far from confirmed though, mind.

Looks like that person ate the PokeWalker, and trading a Chikorita for Arceus is a GREAT TRADE!

SuperBob July 4th, 2009 7:55 PM

The video makes me want buy HeartGold even more! :O

This great video further showcases the excellent graphics in HG/SS, particularly the title screen. (giggity)

I think I have more and more faith in HG/SS every day.

Foxnordic July 4th, 2009 10:17 PM

dude that trailer was sweet! I decided to have typhlosion on my team now lol :)

XxDawnfanxX July 4th, 2009 10:41 PM

Wow this has excited me so much more. Sure, I do not live over in that area in Asia, I live in North America but wow does all those videos from that commercial get me pumped. It was enough for me to understand even more how great this is going to be. I wish they showed commercials and had that hyped around here. They used to back when pokemon was huge in NA, but not anymore unfortunately.

billi1000 July 4th, 2009 11:03 PM

again all shots in the commercial were taken from a DSi screen, why? are some features in these games DSi exclusive , and if not then the dsi with just be put on hold and there will be no reason to buy it, i really hope there are no DSi exclusive features, and yes the gyms are looking sweet, as well as the cities, Ecruteak looks awsome!

Goldenrod is a bit bigger as you can tell. I wonder by how much though...

The lugia and ho-oh scenes were the best. Also those are the best title screens ever in a video game I think. Yeah slowpoke well got some size and lol dance theatre is the best.

I say its apricorn as well judging by the white ball on it.

I think its a whole new gym layout and all. And morty's gym will always be that spooky pathway.

The ledge is there, the ruins have second exits leading to smaller ruins which I believe to be the crystal text rooms so yeah I think its more then likely that the Suicune quest will be there.

Youji July 4th, 2009 11:44 PM

That finally proves what we all guessed anyways, that the Gyms will be redone :D
Those screenshots look very amazing and I loove GameFreak for using more different Tilesets than ever. I really hate to live in EU and to speak no single word Japanese because I will have to wait until March next year I guess or even longer -.-'

But yeah thumbs up ;D (b'')b

Late July 5th, 2009 12:11 AM

This thing shows whole Johto, so they are going to put videos from Kanto soon, I think they have began making more Kanto now. Apricon tree is from Route 30, you can see piece of Mr. Pokémon's house. This really look like Gold/Silver but graphics has changed, you can recognize every place in this video! This is first video where I can see Typhlosion in HeartGold/SoulSilver! Yay!

Naysayers may point out thouse that the berry by there is a... PSNCUREBERRY. But tbh, I really don't see the old berries coming back ever - Apricorn is by far the morst likely outcome there, IMO.

Mitchman July 5th, 2009 2:00 AM

A small note but we should be getting a new one in a couple of weeks. It was shown at the special viewing of movie 12:

Before the movie started a new HeartGold and SoulSilver commercial played, which I imagine will not air for another few weeks. A 3D Entei appears, followed by Raikou, and then Suicune. We see Ho-Oh and Lugia posing, and then some game footage. Most of it has already been seen, but there is some sort of footage involving a race with laps being counted. I have no idea what it was, so it's probably something completely new in the games. The male character is also shown riding a Pokemon in the Lake of Rage. He encounters the red Gyarados while doing so.

And I was right about racing. Most likely place is where I guessed in the oval area near the national park.

If Kanto wasn't involved this would be the biggest let down since... Ash lost his signature cap. :P Hehehe

Hope so. Goldenrod is the biggest city in PokeHistory for a reason!! Seems to have lost it's Golden tinge to it though; guess they didn't want it to look too much like Ecruteak City. :P

Always good to keep key locations! Hopefully the man with the surfing/dancing Rhydon is still there!! :D

Hell yeah, and I thought that in R/S/E just showing the Pokemon who uses the HM in a quick flash was cool. Better hope the Apricorns are back, along with Berries no doubt. What else is Kurt good for? Breaking his back.... :P :D

Heck yeah! I mentioned this before, Claire's gym looks revamped to the extreme! Let's hope the Dragon Den is more of a challenge this time. Morty's gym looks super awesome, epic at best. And the overview of Johto showed a large Park area west of Cianwood so lets hope you're right!!

TheAliveTrain July 5th, 2009 4:35 AM

The title screen is in English "Touch to start". Is it suposed to be like that?

Ryanniny July 5th, 2009 5:28 AM

the game isnt gonna be NDSi only, there aren't NDSi only games...
the "touch to start" screens like incredible, im so impressed.
i am slightly confused though.
it showed ecruteak city with the lake bit in the top, and the kimono girl house below, but the city looked kinda gray/blue-ish
but then other screens, what i'm presuming to be, of ecruteak city, show it with red & goldy trees? i'm so confused :| are they just showing different areas of the city? cos i'm unsure if its different places or not
sorry if you don't actually understand what i'm going on about. its hard to explain D:

It's always in English on the Japanese versions, but that's still different from usual. In my Platinum and Diamond it says this on the top screen:
PUSH START BUTTON

and now we have on the touch screen:

TOUCH TO START

Interesting change :P lol

I love the touch screen openings, they look mega awesome and also the pokemon coming out to perform a HM!I'm really hyped now :D

wow, they can fit all this amazingness into that small cartridge? AND include the Kanto region ontop of that!
i hope they include kanto otherwise it's not G/S, but from what i've seen it's being hinted at.

I heard it almost definitely will!

I love how they are using the full 3D capabilities of the DS!

Eggie Poo Poo July 5th, 2009 3:08 PM

Okeeee here we go. Everything everyone has said I pretty much agree with, so I won't take up space with repetitive nonsense. I'll talk about the crappy aspects.

- Lugia's title screen is looking downright awesome while Ho-Oh's is plain and boring. Couldn't they at least add a rainbow to Ho-Oh's, since he's a rainbow legendary?
- Goldenrod City should retain that colour scheme in the originals, the pink brick and golden tinge. They should swap the black roads with pink pavement.

キラキラ July 5th, 2009 3:11 PM

I am loving the fact that our Pokemon will actually pop out and perform the HM moves ^^
I wonder what happens when surfing? *prays for Pokemon riding*[nonWAILMER]

Sweet Smoochum July 5th, 2009 4:03 PM

First, I'd like to say I really love the theme song that's playing in the commercial. What stood out to me most was the Blackthorn City's gym! It looks incredible! Morty's gym looks lovely as well. Those candles are a nice touch. Ecruteak looks beautiful and I love the Dance Theater. This commercial really shows off a lot about this game without revealing too much. We finally got to see the new girl's overworld sprite! :D Ho-oh looks gorgeous as well as the background. They worked hard on this game. I know I'll love it! :D

1: Huh? I'm talking about how they favoured Silver incredibly, like they always do (Nintendo always has a version they favour, mostly whatever version the fans like more, like Pokemon Diamond was favoured, Pokemon Silver was, Pokemon Red was) by giving Lugia's titlescreen so much more effort and time and effects, while Ho-Oh gets just a blank sky.... couldn't they add a rainbow? And I didn't say anything about the original one?

2: A soft yellowish pink tinge to bricked pavement would enhance the gold more and the two together would look amazing (plus the original didn't have black roads).

blueblur155 July 5th, 2009 5:06 PM

The more I see gameplay video, the more I want this game! The commercial was just AMAZING!!! Cant wait 4 this to come stateside (u know with an english narrator of course)

I loved it. I like that the game focuses more on the touch screen also. Even the title screen uses it. The pokedex looks awesome and so do the Ho-oh and Lugia entrances. I really hope there are seasons in this one. I would love to see changes involving the calandar and not just the clock.

Sweet Smoochum July 7th, 2009 7:58 AM

What took me most by surprise was seeing the Blackthorn City gym. That was incredible! The lava made it look amazing. The music in the background makes you so pumped to play this game. It makes you want to play it this very second.

Maybe for Bugsy, they'll do what they did in Crystal. Y'know, with the rotating clock-center-thing? I thought that was really ahead of it's time, it kinda resembled the Sunnyshore gym but only with one room.

More like maybe they'll make him look like a guy this time. I had thought him to be a girl for the first few YEARS that I played Gold and Crystal, haha.

In the part where the girl (forgot her name) uses chickarita to cut down the tree, the berry tree looks like it has a pecha berry.

I thought it was supposed to be white Apricorn, but in a new area. I think your idea is right, though, because in the original it was a psncureberry. They probably changed it to Pecha berry seeing as how both can cure poison and because Pecha berry is in the most recent gen. Speaking of that tree, I think it looks very nicely made. Chikorita looks more like Chikorita now instead of a Gulpin like some others have said in that first gameplay video.

lol When I first played, I thought he was a girl as well. (Even the booklet said Bugsy was female.) Then, I found out via anime that Bugsy was a male. He'll probably stay a male in this remake. Hopefully, they'll make him more manly.

I really like how they made Ecruteak City. It looks very well made. I like the different colored trees. Finally, we can see the front (overworld) sprite of the new girl! Yay! The hat looks normal sized, but the hair looks a little too high up. Oh well. I still like the sprite, though. ^_^

What? I didn't say that in honor of Kris. I've been defending the new girl constantly. Others were calling her Mario and saying her hat is too big and that Kris is hidden inside her hat. I'm proving that the hat wasn't that big at all. It looks nice. I like the hat. The hair looks nice too, but it appears higher up from that angle. I still like the sprite, and it's still my favorite playable female character. I just wanted to prove a point that people shouldn't have worried about the hat being too big.

That was awesome! This game looks like it's gonna be som much fun, I can't wait til it comes out!

thelaytonmobile July 8th, 2009 1:25 AM

This commercial looks great! It also sounds great, that music really is very good, though I doubt it will be in the game.

All the overhead shots of the cities look very good, unfortunately the Goldenrod part can't be paused without it being all blurry, however, I believe that the building on the right is the department store, and is looking very Platinum-y.

I have to say I am not a fan of the title screens, both of them look very bland if you ask me.

Another thing I have to say I am pleased with is the addition of hills to the areas. G/S/C were very flat and if this was the same in the remake it would be strange compared to D/P/P. However as we can see in the video, the route with Mr Pokemon's house has had hills added, which somehow pleases me.

I can't wait to see shots of Kanto, nighttime, and of the remaining cities. I don't think Olivine, Cianwood or Blackthorn have been seen yet, but I have no doubt that they will also look incredible.

I meant that the sprite itself may be an homage to Kris.

lol, those jokes are hilarious. Can you imagine if Kris was inside that hat?!
jk, I like the new girl too. She kinda grows on you.

They're not Fall scenes. They're just golden autumn leaves. Probably hinting some significance of the Tin Tower area.

Or, maybe, just maybe, it points to seasonal environment changes.

Johto would seem like the region to be in perpetual Autumn. It would explain the low-saturation colors of G/S/C. Plus, I always thought it felt like the calming down period.

And besides, Sinnoh was like a winter region. The main characters wore scarfs and, in Platinum, Twinleaf had snow.

Maybe each of the regions has it's own season?

kanto seems like Spring to me, and Hoenn as summer (there were people on a friggin' beach sunbathing!)
but yes, the commercial does show Johto with an autumn-like look, which i think suits the ornate style of Johto, cos they were the most "under-developed" region, in my opinion.

I think you're missing the point. THIS ISN'T A LOCAL CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICT. It's a damn game on a handheld, what is your problem? In my opinion the black roads make it look like Jubilife City. Before the soft pink (not HOT PINK) blended with the light yellow formed a soft gold coloured look, the two colours went WELL together. Black roads and this pure gold look a bit weird.

I think he was using a metaphor...

But anyway, gold and pink roads wouldn't look as pleasing in this area, it being a major city and all. I think that the Black roads create a nice contrast with the buildings in the town. You may also notice that the original Goldenrod City could not use this scheme, as the GBC couldn't use two different shades of black. Don't get me wrong, I liked the old Goldenrod, but the bricks in the road don't make that much of a difference in gameplay.

My point is: if you're gonna start an argument or even give up a great game because of bricks in a path, you might as well just give up all games. Because there's always going to be things that you don't like in a game (mostly more important than brick colours).

La Foudre July 9th, 2009 11:39 AM

I think I just kind of exploded inside.

I want this game so baaaad now.

The thing is, it kind of DOES make it a big difference in gameplay. It makes it look more like Jubilife or Veilstone, it should have its own Johto look to it, by using the classic colours.

Sweet Smoochum July 9th, 2009 3:52 PM

I would just like to say that I will indeed miss the beautiful pink roadway. :pink_cry:

On the other hand, how awesome was that commercial?!

Has anyone else seen the awesomeness that is the Lava-rie goodness gym?

Or how Ecruteak has so many different trees? 1 type of tree was 3 different colors, and there was another type of tree there. Doesn't it look simply stunning?

Yeah I've found I've made it a ritual to come here every day and watch the commercial once, maybe twice, then eat some food, come back and watch it again :D:D:D:D

Then go play the originals.

To be honest I don't care, I never paid attention to the pink bricks, I paid more attention to the buildings and stuff.
For all we know, this is a beta. We've seen various graphical changes from when the game was first announced a few months ago up to today, so anything is possible.

AND DID ANYONE ELSE LOVE THE LIGHT POSTS?
I always thought softly lit light posts like that give a town a much better ambiance.

Dude there's some things you just KNOW they aren't going to change by final release, so don't give me that "ho ho this is t3h beta ho ho! ho ho ho ho! ho ho!"

Leyt July 9th, 2009 7:35 PM

The release seems so far away.

Then again, by the time it's released in the US, I may forget about it.

shaqattacks July 9th, 2009 7:45 PM

When platinum came out in Japan I played it but after month I got bored. I totally forgot about until the English release date came. I'm excited for these games because they were the first games I got. I remember I played the gameboy like an addict and I'll never get bored because of the nostalgia.
On topic: the commercial looks great and making me too excited! We have to wait 2 months which sucks hopefully I can be more patient.

the "touch to start" screens like incredible, im so impressed.
i am slightly confused though.
it showed ecruteak city with the lake bit in the top, and the kimono girl house below, but the city looked kinda gray/blue-ish
but then other screens, what i'm presuming to be, of ecruteak city, show it with red & goldy trees? i'm so confused :| are they just showing different areas of the city? cos i'm unsure if its different places or not
sorry if you don't actually understand what i'm going on about. its hard to explain D:

My guess is the autumn looking scene is in front of the tin tower where Ho-oh is, I never thought that was just ecruteak city because ecruteak is a very dull and releaxing place

I loved it. I like that the game focuses more on the touch screen also. Even the title screen uses it. The pokedex looks awesome and so do the Ho-oh and Lugia entrances. I really hope there are seasons in this one. I would love to see changes involving the calandar and not just the clock.

the problem with having seasons in the game would be Nintendo of America would have to mess with it to fit our Seasonal Calendar, because Japan has different seasons for different months since they are far away from us. Also, for every place that was different the nintendo there would have to change it too, like for in Australia.

I really like how they made Ecruteak City. It looks very well made. I like the different colored trees. Finally, we can see the front (overworld) sprite of the new girl! Yay! The hat looks normal sized, but the hair looks a little too high up. Oh well. I still like the sprite, though. ^_^

The whole point of Bugsy is to look like a girl but be a boy, its making fun of a lot of Japanese people that look like the opposite sex.
