The Console War

The Console War

It is the big war of who buys from what company.
Getting right down to it, who do you support?
  • Sony
  • Microsoft
  • Nintendo
I know there are a lot of "Nintendo Fans" on here, but I hope it wouldn't be spammed with them just saying the Wii for the sake of it.

Why do you follow that company that you do?

For me, it has to be Sony.
Only recently, I have bought a PS3 and I have had a good play around with it. I just think the console is amazing. For me, it blows all of the others out of the water.

I have pretty much lived on the 360, since my friends and I always use to play it, as he owns one.
I also have a Wii, but I have barely used it. I just don't like any of the games. There are no interesting things to do on it. It was a waste of money for me =[

Gummy July 10th, 2009 11:02 AM

To tell you the truth, the only reason I stick with Microsoft and the Xbox 360 is because they seem to have better games, in my opinion of course. Before I bought my next-gen console, I was contemplating on buying the Wii but then I realized, "After Brawl, Mario Kart, and Galaxy, what games can possibly keep me interested in this console?" Not to mention my room is too small for all that movement and stuff. The PS3, on the other hand, looked very appealing to me, but the price was too much for my sensitive pockets. Now that I have my 360, I'm pretty satisfied with it and I don't see myself buying any other console in the near future (but if KH3 is announced for the PS3, that will change).

The only way to prevent anyone from saying you're a fanboy. XD

After owning all 3 consoles, I've got to say that my personal fav is the 360.
Yes, it's RRoD on me (happened twice), yes I had to pay $100 for Wi-Fi, yes I have to pay for XBL Gold. But I just like the online better, and it has more games that I like. On top of that, most of my friends have the 360. Not saying the PS3 is a bad system, I love my PS3, and I love some of the games on it. I just like the 360 better.
Now in the case of the Wii... I am saying it's a bad system.

I only bought a Wii when it came out, because I thought it would be an interesting change and a breath of fresh air. It failed to be such a thing, IMO.

The 360 does have a lot of games I like, but, for some reason, the PS3 got me more excited.

Very nice Arcanine. But the Wii is at the top, NINTENDO FAN! XD

I prefer the PS3 system to the 360. I don't know what it is, it is just nicer XD
LOL!
The Wii system falls flat on its face when compared to the PS3 or 360.

What, too good to fight in a war?
PC has the best games, it's the cheapest, has the best online, I guess you could say best graphics, but that doesn't make the game.

It make the other 3 consoles small time.

Aether July 10th, 2009 11:19 AM

I used to be a strong supporter of the Wii, but its lineup of games is just... pathetic. I mostly use my 360 and PC more than anything else now.

No, it isn't in there, because I didn't want to put it in.

I disagree, it doesn't have the best games.
If you want a top of the range computer, it will cost you more than a console.
It does have good online and by far, if you have a +£150 graphics card (mostly).

I simply wanted to make it between the PS3, 360 and Wii.
Is that so hard to understand!?

Sure it does. It has games like Team Fortress Classic, Counter Strike, Fallout 1-3, Morrowind and Daggerfall, Deus Ex, Starcraft, Half-Life, I mean, the list goes on. And of course any multiplatform game will be the best on the PC.
Why, the other 3 consoles have great games, there's just ain't enough on them.

You can easily build a PC for under $1000, plus all its games are free, but then again all the games on the Wii are too and the 360 (But that's a ***** to mod, and you'll just end up getting banned from XBL).

Wow. Amazing.

If you want to discuss this, VM me from now on and we will discuss it there.
I don't want off topic discussion in here, since it isn't on topic. Thanks!

TRIFORCE89 July 10th, 2009 11:37 AM

I don't have a PS3 so I can't comment on the best of the three.

But I have a Wii and a 360. There is stuff that bugs me about the Wii like weak online support and lack of HD (really I'd be perfectly fine with it's graphics but at a higher resolution. I don't need it to be completely on par with the 360. The jaggies just kill it for me with the Wii). But...they're not a big deal to me.

Online, to me, is a secondary function of a console. It's not a deal breaker for me. Same with graphics. The system is powerful enough to deliver better graphics than the last generation so it doesn't phase me. No one seemed to care when the PSone looked much worse than the N64. I play game for enjoyment. If I have fun playing, then mission accomplished.

As long as I have games to play that I enjoy then I'm happy. I do have 360 games and I do enjoy them, and there are more that I'm looking forward to. If I bought the 360 earlier (got in January) I may have been compelled throughout the years to pick up more than I have accumulated thus far, so the comparison between my 360 library and my Wii library is unfair. But... there are more Wii games on the horizon that I am looking forward to than 360 games.

Kerotan July 10th, 2009 2:23 PM

So. Many. Console War Threads!

I'd have to go with PS3, because I'm fanboy scum. I do enjoy the experiences I've had on the other consoles though, and I'd say that no console really outclasses the other consoles at the moment. They all have a lot to offer, and I really appreciate the curent lineup for that.

Wulf has a point, but I only use my PC as a way to play Microsoft-exclusive games TBH.

Ahh, but this thread is to consolidate all of this discussion into one thread that I can manage, so to speak.

Again, he might have a point and I never disagreed with the fact that the PC can put up a strong fight, I have a gaming PC, but in my original point, I just wanted the poll to be about the 3 company based consoles.

~*!*~Tatsujin Gosuto~*!*~ July 10th, 2009 6:29 PM

I have all three (my brothers play the 360 and PS3 so I barely get to play it and its in their room) while the Nintendo Wii is in my room. I've always been a Nintendo fan since I was little while my brothers were a sony fan, so since they never played Nintendo as much as I did, thats when I picked up the Nintendo systems. SO its the Nintendo Wii for me

:t354:TG

Captain Fabio July 11th, 2009 4:27 AM

Ahh, that is a shame.
You should wrestle them off it for a while Boo =P

There are some good games, no doubt they will already have.

Alistair July 11th, 2009 7:38 AM

It's really not a shame if she enjoys it, now is it?

Anyway, I can't comment much on the PS3, mainly because I don't have one. There are a few games that I would like to play for it (LittleBigPlanet, White Knight Chronicles, Final Fantasy Versus XIII), but not enough to constitute a $400 purchase for me. I have a Wii, a 360, and a PS2 (the thing is still alive, guys). I usually balance my play time between my PS2 and my 360. I rarely play my Wii games (although I do still play some of my Gamecube games). I also use my 360 to play online (usually Halo 3, but sometimes GTA4), which I can't do on my phat PS2 (SCPH-30001R, no network adaptor).

It is a shame her bothers are always on them, not her preference =]

I need to invent in a PS2 when I have some random money around. I want to play some of my old favorites again, eg. Silent Hill 2.
Sounds like it is rather interesting collection you have there.

I think next year, you will start to actually think about owning a PS3, maybe. I know that there are a lot of different games that I, personally, can't wait for :D

Alistair July 11th, 2009 10:00 AM

I think I'll get one once Sony decides to release a slim version for $299.99 or less. But those are only my most current consoles (Odyssey 2 anyone? ;)).

Anyway, another reason that made me choose the 360 over the PS3 was that my friends have them. It's a good way to not pay for games, because I trade my games with my friends.

Fox♠ July 11th, 2009 12:03 PM

For me, by a long shot it is PS3.

I played a lot of Wii and was really, really unimpressed by it. I was originally going to buy a 360, being pulled in by the illusion that it was cheaper than PS3, but when I realised that to own a 360, with 2 controllers, charge packs, wifi, decent HDD and 2 years XBL would cost a fair bit more than a PS3, and coupled with the fact that (in my opinion) the PS3 exclusives far outdone the 360 exclusives, not to mention the (at the time) 30% failrate of 360s AND mgs4 being PS3 exclusive, I had to go PS3.

I mean a lot of people will say "360 has better games than ps3" but 9/10 times when you ask them what these games are they're either Halo 3 (Which imo is sub par at best) or Gears2. The other times some will say CoD4 and Fallout3 etc which are all on PS3 anyway.

Others will also say that XBL is better than PSN by a long shot, however I've used both and to be honest, the minor things that are better on XBL than PSN do not justify charging £45 a year for when PSN is free and has most of the features anyway.

Barney. July 11th, 2009 12:11 PM

I will say my piece once I feel the need to...Because I think alot of people may be pretty sick of my constant defending of the Wii.

But anyway..Wii/PS3 for me.

jasonresno July 11th, 2009 5:34 PM

Really isn't much of a war, in my view, it seems like 360 is sweeping everything up. A better online experience, a better online service (XBOX LIVE), a better library of games (in my opinion), and equally powerfull or close enough as not to tell the difference.

But honestly it's all a matter of preference. I like that not everybody loves the same things. I like that we have a diverse selection because it's the only thing that makes game creators try harder. So for PS3 fanboys: Rock on. For Wii fanboys: Rock on. For 360 fanboys: rock on. Every persons dedication makes all of these game makers work harder to win the "war".

I don't think it's quite as a big a deal as it was in the previous generation. There's a lot of people with multiple consoles this time around

True Reign July 11th, 2009 8:58 PM

Wii = Failure

So the real competition lies with the PS3 and the 360 which are both amazing in their own ways, but I say 360 since they have a much bigger community of fans than the PS3.

I agree that the 360 has a bigger following.
When they came out, it had the better games and was better for the bank balance, if it was yours or your parents.

I use to love the 360, I still do in a way. But I prefer the PS3 for some reason XD

Karundo111 July 12th, 2009 3:27 AM

I follow Sony. I don't really know why, I just find their technology appealing to me.

BTW there is a new console entering the war, but they won't get far. the Zeebo. It uses 3g Mobile network and will have most common games ike FIFA 09, nut like I said before, it's a budget console and won't get far.

X-Box 360 at a long shot. I myself own a PS3 (Which I hardly play) and by far I enjoy the 360 more. The PS3 exclusives are now being released onto the 360, such as Metal Gear Solid and the like. Sure, the PS3 is in my living room. But as a Blue ray player.

No, 360 is getting a non canon, non Kojima MGS spin off which PS3 and PC are also getting, on top of that MGS has never being a Sony exclusive series either, so 360 isn't really getting any noteworthy Sony exclusives. Except Tekkan I guess, although I am sure Tekkan 5 wasn't an exclusive anyway.

And to the wisenut who called me a fanboy, your point? I'm not sure if it was some poor attempt at jest or an even poorer attempt at a flame but either way it's not contributing to the discussion and it doesn't meet PC's rules, so don't do it again.

I mean, like, sure the Wii is an okay console, but when you compare it to the big, main ones - it sucks, lol.

I play the Wii all the time at my friend's house, I owned a 360, and I own a PS3. 360 beats them, but the Wii comes in last, mainly at the fact that it's geared towards more younger kids and the games are crap.

So $120 a year.
The cheapest AUS 360 i found was the basic 20GB one for $345. The cheapest official 360 WiFi adapter I found for Aus was $128. So a lower end 360 with wifi and Live for a year in AUS comes to about...$593 making it just over $100 cheaper than a 80GB ps3 in Aus. Add another year of Live and now your 360 costs more than the PS3.

What my point is, $10 a month doesn't seem like much, but put it in perspective and you realise 360 really isn't cheaper in the long run.

edit: Just found a bunch of brand new 80GB PS3s from an Aus retailer for $536, meaning a one year run on a low end 360 costs more than the PS3 will cost you in 3.

Alistair July 12th, 2009 9:14 AM

The Zeebo will likely never see a release outside of Brazil, China, or Russia. The console was made by TecToy to be an affordable option for developing countries. According to reviews I have read, the console is not very good at the moment (poor network performance, bad ports, control lag). It really isn't in the console war, because it's for markets that can't afford the major ones.

Captain Fabio July 12th, 2009 10:17 AM

The Zeebo will never be classed in the same league as the PS3, 360 and Wii.

Comparing the Zeebo's and the PS3's CPU's, it fails horribly.

Zeebo = ARM11 clocked at 528MHz
PS3 = CBE clocked at 3.2GHz

The CBE runs over 6 times faster.
It doesn't look like an interesting console at all.

Going from Wiki, they say the RRP is $499.
That is a hell of a lot of money for a weak console.

*sigh*

The console itself is not aimed just towards "younger" audiences game manufactures just use it's gameplay to flog these mini game pieces of crap.

Of course nintendo are going to let it happen, it doesn't matter to them as long as they get money from it.

I'll say this again..

Yes, there are alot of complete shovelware games for Wii..But it doesn't mean you have to buy the danm things.

Buy the good games that it has to offer for god sake.

Also, the Wii has made a name for itself as the home of Survival horror and mindless assassination.

I'd like to see kids play House Of The Dead and Madworld.

Cornelius July 12th, 2009 6:59 PM

I vote for the Nintendo Wii. Out of all of the three home consoles, it's the only one that I have. I do plan on getting an Xbox 360. However, that won't be for a while. But I've always been a Nintendo fanboy, seeing how they've made some of the greatest games out there and homed some of them and continue to innvoate the gaming company.
While the Wii is the most innovative game system currently, I think that Microsoft's Natal will be very interesting, although how it does it based on its games and if it really works as well as told.

Klippy July 12th, 2009 7:07 PM

I don't see why there has to be a war over video game consoles at all. :| Seriously, you'd think people could just enjoy whichever one they own and not bother with the one(s) they don't own.

I have a 360 and a Wii, I hardly play either, but if I had to choose which one to play forever, it'd be the 360. I enjoy the games on there much more and my Wii hasn't been used in quite some time due to no games interesting me. That's not the Wii's fault, I just have interests it can't suit, you know? :[ Either way...I'd say every system has it's positives and negatives. Just enjoy whichever you have and don't worry about the others. XD;

I love PSN.
It just flows a lot better in my opinion.

At the moment, the 360 has a lot of good games that I do want to play, but I have played most of them at friends, so that is why I have selected my PS3.

Normally I'd ignore you because you can't seem to handle a mature debate, but do you actually know how much a PS3 costs? A ps3 costs $399.99, so how can it be $400 more than a 360?

If you look up maybe 4 posts you'd see that to run your 360 for one year in Aus costs more than a PS3 would in 3.

It's ironic that you call other games over rated but like Halo.
I'm not even going to try and attempt to prove to you how wrong you are, so I'll let Wiki do it for you.

Clearly the only game there is InFamous.

No, I was correcting your mistake.
It sounds a lot like you are a M$ fanboy.

Gengar1 July 13th, 2009 4:46 AM

Only good one there is INfamous, metal gear solid and kingdom hearts, anyway fanboy I don't have time for the likes of you. Btw yes you're right, Halo is overrated, but it's actually good, Final fantasy makes halo look better then it already is, there is only one good final fantasy game and that is tactics advanced, rest are graphcis, nothign more.

It seems like you are liking more and more games by the second.
Only KH first.
Then inFAMOUS,
Then MG.

Stick with one story.
Also, we don't have time for the likes of you too.

Good bye!

Yeah.

No.

I could just name all the other great games there..But I won't waste my time.

The NES and SNES versions of Final Fantasy didn't have flashy graphics did they?.. did they?

They were the roots of an ever growing gaming tree, Why? Because the gameplay and storylines were grand..Not flashy graphics.

Also..Halo..It's a Shooter....And..oh..wait..and..uhh...Nothing else. PS3 exclusives beat it in every compartment e.g Killzone 2, Resistance 2 and Fall of man, even Haze.

You really just need to stop, Go off and do a bit of research, learn.

Ziraider July 13th, 2009 11:49 AM

360, I have all systems, love them all they both have there pros and cons. I take the 360 because more games and bececause SOOOOOOO many poeple are online, and its the most common system besides the wii now days.

Captain Fabio July 13th, 2009 11:53 AM

The main con of the 360 is the lovely RRoD.

All of my friends who own a 360 have encountered some form of RRoD.
That is one reason I bought a PS3 > 360.

Mitchman July 13th, 2009 12:01 PM

All I know about the console war is that if the Wii Preorder box for the black Wii is the same as the normal one Microsoft and Sony better start watching out.

Barney. July 13th, 2009 12:10 PM

They don't really need to watch out.

The Wii outsells them both anyway.

Joy.
It is still the same console though.

It outsells the other two because it is directed at the casual gaming and family market.
There are more of them than "hardcore gamers".

Barney. July 13th, 2009 12:20 PM

I know why it outsells them...I'm not thick.

I was just stating that because they don't need to watch out..Because the Wii has already destroyed them..Saleswise.

[email protected]'graphcis , nothign more.'
FF7 is probably one of the most memorable Final Fantasy games of all time, and it had only above average graphics compared to other PSX titles. FF fans care about depth, storyline and enterainment far more than they care about graphics. Not to mention the fact that they keep rereleasing RPG's on the DS, rather than revamping the graphics and releasing them on a next gen system. I would start ranting about how there are more PS3 exclusives than you think, but then you'd probably 'retaliate' with 'lololol dAtS sOoO gHeY sTfU fAnBoI PSTripple aInT gOt NuFfiN oN dA eCkSbAwKs tHrEeSiCkSdEe!'

Also, read the rules before you post, crotchstain.

Sydian July 13th, 2009 2:46 PM

I'm not going to actually stay and get in the heat of this thread, but my choice will always be Nintendo. And my cliche answer as to why is that I was raised on Nintendo and Super Nintendo with Mario and Yoshi, eventually got into GameBoy and Pokemon, completely fell in love with Zelda, found a role model in Samus Aran, and had a house pet by the name of Star Fox. I was throwing Dr. Mario pills in my sleep and when I went outside, I threw crap at my sister and called her Donkey Kong. There's so many familiarity and everyone knows the Nintendo famers. I have a 360, though, I'll be honest, but it's really annoying. I've never liked Sony's systems, either. I want the Wii...maybe for my birthday. I don't know, but as for the past, now, and the future, Nintendo is my parent company.

Not really. It's fine as is.

Another fanboy. Hey genius, every model of the 360 now has a falcon chip inserted, the only ones that has a chance of the RROD of the models made before mid july, 2008.

You're an idiot. I got my 360 at the end of 2008. It got the RRoD the very next day. My current one has yet to get them. It is still possible. They have only JUST started making the RRoD problem go away, but I'm sure it'll STILL come back.

Memorable game.. for who? People who think the idea of a good game is a RPG, and fanboys. Here let me say something, RPG games are fail, 9/10 RPG games fail. z0mg l3v3l up m1 ch4r4ct3r @nD 1 b3 L337z0r, thats how you sound on a game of final fantasy, it's a crap game, get over it.

Now fanboys, enjoy your lifes, stuck in your room playing your consoles.

RPGs are actually quite enjoyable. There's a plethora to choose from. Now get out of your house and actually examine some. Get a life, while you're at it.

I am a hardcore 360 gamer. I enjoy playing Call of Duty games, Assassin's Creed, and any other sort of mindless violence. Call of Duty is fun for the Live play, but World at War isn't exactly good. The only enjoyable part of WaW would be the Zombie game mode. Assassin's Creed was alright, but the repetitive gameplay left a lot to be desired. They have said that they have fixed this issue, so the upcoming sequel should be a major improvement compared to the first. Other mindless violence. Like Prototype. A great game, a great story. Any game such as this is a winner, in my book.

HEY THERE AGAIN YOU DUMBASS. Read my above post. NEW 360. RROD. IT HAPPENS. Get your facts straight, before running around crying about people who dislike the RRoD. Seriously. It is 2% NOT %2.
Go back to school.

Any way.
Who said I was playing RPG's?
I am playing inFAMOUS at this current moment in time.
I have a rather good social life thank you very much.

Stronkadonk July 14th, 2009 4:50 AM

I've heard inFAMOUS is like a version of Prototype. Where one lacks, the other exceeds. Is this true?

Either way, it looks fantastic. The only reason why I'd ever want a PS3. But I don't, because it's too expensive, and I'm perfectly fine with the 360. The reason that many choose the 360 is 'cause of money. Hell, there's a chance I would have bought the PS3 instead, if it were cheaper. But thankfully it wasn't. I got my 360, played it, and loved it. I tried the PS3, and I loved my 360 much more than it. Still, exclusive PS3 games sound pretty good. The 360's exclusive Halo stuff is terrible. I played Halo 3 with my cousin. The game was terrible. Real shooters are much better. LASERS!111!!11 fail.

He's the hypocrite? Are you mentally challenged? And who are you to base people off of a Pokémon Forum, jackass?

And get all of that pride out of your ego. You're a worthless crapsack, so stop thinking you're anything more.

Stronkadonk July 14th, 2009 4:57 AM

I love it how you criticize people who do the same thing as you. Go back to school, as Alinthea said. It could really help your pathetic ass out.

And no, he's not a hypocrite. He's your average gamer. inFAMOUS is an average game for average people, the way I see it.

Yep. That is true.
There are different things that vary in the games.

inFAMOUS's was of getting around is a lot different, in a way.
FAMOUS is all about the climbing, where as in Prototype, you can spurt blood out of yourself and fly O_O

Rogue planet July 14th, 2009 5:03 AM

I like how Gengar calls everyone a fan boy when he is clearly the only one here.

Anyway, I prefer 360. It was the cheapest option for me and has never RRoD'd.
I think PS3 has better exclusive games, but it didn't really warrant buying one.

Yes.

Yes while true the way the box is people would be more drawn to it then this:
Its all about the marketing and Nintendo is really showing they know their stuff.

Captain Fabio July 14th, 2009 6:07 AM

I disagree with that.

They could not have it in a box at all and it would still sell like anything.

1.Take a cheap, casual video game console.
2.Change the color scheme.
3.????
4.PROFIT!

...But seriously, nearly everyone has a Wii now, I don't see any reason why they should buy another with a different color. The colored DS's had a bit more novelty, but for a console it doesn't change all that much. I may buy the black controller, but I don't see what makes the new boxart for the Wii so irresistable.

Fox♠ July 14th, 2009 12:35 PM

On top of that black gloss is by far the worst console colour. My PS3 atracts finger prints and dust so darn fast, I'd of much rather had the white one but we don't get it in England.

Anxiety. July 14th, 2009 12:40 PM

I have a PS3 and a Wii, but I don't like my Wii that much, so that's out of it immediately.
I wouldn't mind having an 360, but I don't have that kind of money.

PS3 and 360 are perfectly equal in my eyes. I can complain about both, and I can compliment both.

Fanboys of either annoy me to no end.

MurkN July 14th, 2009 4:54 PM

I guess I prefer the PS3 because I've always been a Sony guy myself growing up using the PS2 most of the time and then getting use to the PS3. The solo title games that come out for the PS3 also interest me more than their counterparts so that could also be another reason.

Dunsparce July 15th, 2009 3:47 PM

I usually stick to Nintendo, but I LOVE my PS2 and Sega Genesis :3

I very rarely play Current-gen Games... I got Wii pretty much for Virtual Console... And Tales of Symphonia 2.

I wouldn't mind getting either of the other 2 consoles... but my major Priorities right now are HG/SS and Fullmetal Alchemist Manga Volumes >.>;

ben23492 July 17th, 2009 4:01 AM

PS3 all the way, eventually it'll just take over the war.

damz July 17th, 2009 4:39 AM

Xbox 360.

Less loading time, bigger HDD, Xbox Live (ok, the PS Store is catching up..), Better exclusives..etc.

I agree though. In a year or 2, the PS3 will start winning the war. It's only a matter of time. For now, the 360 is better. But once the PS Store starts opening up better, and once some REAL games start coming out that will use the CELL processor and Blu-Ray properly, the clear choice will become PS3. Until the next Xbox comes out.

Standard PS3 HDD is 80gb, 360 is atm 20gb iirc.
Besides you can upgrade your PS3 HDD whenever you want because it uses standard laptop hdd, my PS3 is 320GB and I know some people who have 1TB ps3s.

Also "better" exclusives is a matter of opinion and apart for l4d and gears I can't think of that many 360 exclusives i;d class as AAA titles.

Captain Fabio July 17th, 2009 12:54 PM

It is awesome having a big HDD!

Though, not necessary, but nice =]

I am sick of hearing this about Xbox.

As Fox has already said, it's opinion.

But in my opinion, all of the Xbox exclusives are basically the same thing.."Lol Imma shoot you on live lol...OH MY GAHDZ I GET AN ACHIEVEMENTZ CAUSE I HIT A CERTAIN PINT INZ YOUR HEAD LAWLZ."

Wii and PS3 exclusives at least have a range of ideas.

I actually think that the Wii offers the best exclusives...No I'm not talking "Baby Sitting Party" I'm talking "Mario", "Zelda" and "Metroid".

Lost Odyssey, Banjo Nuts and Bolts, Fable 2, Halo Wars (it's an RTS), PGR 3 and 4, Mass Effect, Castle Crashers (and a ton of other XBLA games) would like to have a word with you. And that's just what comes to the top of my head - there are a ton of other non-shooter 360 exclusives. The Xbox was the FPS console, the 360 is the most well-rounded console this gen so far.

Anyway, yeah...the 360 is my favorite current gen console. It has the best online, the best game library (though it shares quite a bit with the PS3), and just in general has more games that I'm interested in.
