Apricorn Thread
So as you know, Apricorns were a big part of the original Gold and Silver games.
And as you probably also know, in a screenshot from the latest Coro Coro magazine, we got a pic of Kurt's House who happens to be known as the "Apricorn Man". And outside of his house, there is an Apricorn tree! So, what do you think the deal is going to be with Apricorns? Will we be able to get the same special pokeballs that we were able to get in the originals like the: Love Ball, Level Ball, Friend Ball, Moon Ball, Lure Ball, and Fast Ball? Or do you think that because of compatability issues we will get normal pokeballs? *EDIT* Apricorns have been confirmed for Heart Gold and Soul Silver! The player will be given a special Apricorn Case in which they will be able to collect and grow Apricorns on the go! You will also be able to use Apricorns to make Pokéjuice, which will boost a certain stat for the different mini games. Here are some questions made by GymLeaderLily: Which Apricorns do you think you'll be using the most? Do you have a favorite Apricorn ball? |
Well we will probably get all the old ones and probably some new ones.

WTF!?! what is this junk? |

If you were talking about "what are Apricorns?" They are these weird fruit shaped things that are used to make Pokeballs. Kurt makes them especially. He resides in Azalea town. He only makes 1 per day. (I'm kidding. ;)) I think they should have Moon Ball, Friend Ball, Love Ball, etc. I don't want them to replace the old ones with the new fangled ones. Back in my day you used a Love Ball to catch a Pokemon of the opposite gender, or used a Fast Ball to catch a quick Pokemon. Nowadays, these young whippersnappers use a Quick Ball instead. They know nothing of the Moon Ball. They call it a "Dusk Ball." We didn't have classy names like that for our Pokemon-catching devices back in our day. We had real Pokeballs. |
I don't think we will be getting those balls ,I think we will get balls like the quick ball, heal ball, ect.
|
Haha wow I'm glad you think of pokeballs that way Eggie Poo Poo, but seriously..
|
Bring Kurt's balls back! They're much better than the new ones! The Apricorns should make the same kinds of Pokeballs as the ones in the original games.
|
I totally agree! I really dont like the newer balls that much but the old ones are just so unique that they have to be included.
|
I hope the good old Heavy Ball comes back, you know when I was just a little boy we couldn't go around throwing your fancy Master Balls around at every legendary we found, we had to use our good old Heavy ball, since all the legendarys were pretty heavy.
I hope it doesn't take a whole day to make one ball again |
Quote:
Anyways, yeah, I loved the Apricorns and the special GSC Poké Balls. I hope they bring the same Apricorns and Poké Balls back from the original games. (I want a Snorlax in a Heavy Ball! A guy can dream...) |
I think using the old balls might cause compatibility issues, although it could be fixed by simply not allowing you to trade back apricon-made balls.
Still, I think we'll be getting the new ones. :/ |
Yay for Kurt's balls? XD
I just think they'll have subs for the old balls. Once again, compatability is key. You couldn't trade a heavy ball as a hold-item or a pokemon caught with it. It just wouldn't work, unfortunately. |
But yet it has already been confirmed that not all pokemon will be compatible so it is very possible. Gizamimi is not able to be traded out of the games. Pokemon Platinum already showed that this generation will not be completely compatible. What else could Apricorns make?
Haza(Brothers profile)! |

I've never been big on the nonstandard pokeball types. But chances are the ones available in D/P will be the ones u can get.
|
I personally never used Kurt. I always used Pokeballs that were bought or found.
Waiting for a different Pokeball when you could buy one instead felt a bit strange to me. |
As long as we have good ol Heavy Balls back, then I am fine. These current one quite suck. :D
|
As I stated before, the idea of compatibility is gone out the window. Not every Pokemon is compatible already. New items are introduced all the time (Griseous Orb)!
|
If a Pokemon is caught in a Pokeball not found in the game it was traded to, it would revert to a Pokeball.
In the data, there are many open slots for new Pokeballs. All of those slots appear as normal Pokeballs when viewed. So if you traded, lets say, a Lugia caught in a Heavy Ball, It would appear as a Normal Pokeball in D/P/Pt Most likely, like Platinum Orb(I hate using its English name, "Griseous Orb"), The Pokeballs themselves can be traded between HG/SS(As Platiunum Orb can be traded between Platinums) |
I always loved kurt and his special pokeballs. Used them all the time.
|
i kinda hated the APricorns. id have to wait a day for a pokeball, when not even 20 minutes later i catch the pokemon i wanted to use the ball on.
|
i think all of the balls names will be replaced with the new balls names(e.g luxury balls)
i thought the apricorn idea was a bit naf but i got used to it and found it quite niftey! |
I hardly used Kurt, but it would be neater if instead of a whole day it would take a number of steps to get a Ball done, like an Egg at the Daycare.
(Then again you could always speed it up by setting the time to one minute before midnight if they keep the old way but whatever.) |

As for compatibility issues, maybe there will be special bag inside of the pack for it. (Remember how there was a berry bag and a TM/Move bag for FrLg?) They could have the bag for Apricorns in this game except not allow Pokemon to hold it while trading. |

|
Maybe there'll be a "Kurt's Bag" for his balls and apricorns.

I don't see how people can dislike the new balls. Yes, they changed the names around (Quick Ball could've really stayed Quick Ball). But seriously, the Dusk Ball is friggin' cool (did the Moon Ball have that cloud of shadow? No), the Net Ball made the Lure and Nest Ball obsolete (though I wouldn't have minded that staying the same way; it'd be cool to have a special bug ball), and the additions of the Time Ball, Dive Ball (bubbles), Premier Ball (impractical but showy) and Heal Ball (bleh) are wonderful for making your non-bred Pokemon feel more special. The Love and Heavy Balls are sorely missed, but we won't die without 'em. Still, I'm looking forward to seeing what they'll do with this. Plus, I always enjoyed Kurt. He made me laugh and gave me stuff, and worked for peanuts.
|
Wow, what a speculation this is turning into!
I think replacing the good ol' Apricorn-made balls with DPPt balls would be very, very unresponsible by Nintendo (Anyone might just attack them in anger because of their unresponsibility), but as they cover up the Kurt balls pretty well (except for Moon ball/Heavy ball :cer_love:), they just might have a replacement-plan, maybe the marts of Sinnoh just imported the balls from professional ball makers like Kurt, but then, why change their names/appearence (don't make me come up there, Nintendo!!!!)? Anyway, we'll just see when HGSS comes out *excited* EDIT: just read post above, just couldn't stop laughing about he doing work for "peanuts" (apricorns) XD |
As seems to be the general consensus here, I'm hoping that all the balls will be the same as their GSC. Heavy Balls and Moon Balls... Brings back memories! n.n I would imagine that they would be using the old GSC balls but I suppose it wouldn't be too big of a surprise if they simply used the fancy shmancy ones from DPPt. Personally though I hope they integrate the old ones!
As for compatability issues, all the previous suggestions could work... I was also thinking that they could make them to be their newer counterparts when trading to DPPt... Like a Moon Ball would be changed to a Dusk Ball while in transit from HGSS to DPPt, etc. The other suggestions sound much more plausible though! x3 |

They are probably going to replace the GSC balls with the net ball, quick ball, dusk ball and the others.

Not all the old ones have the same effects as the new ones.
Apricorns (What ball?) Effect. Red Apricorns (Level Balls) Catch rate if the player's current Pokémon's level is: * The same or lower than the wild Pokémon's: 1× * Higher than the wild Pokémon's: 2×; * Double or more than that of the wild Pokémon's: 4×; * Four times as much or higher: 8× Blue Apricorn (For a Lure Ball) Wild Pokémon must be hooked by a Fishing rod. (3x catch rate) Yellow Apricorn (For a Moon Ball) Only if the wild Pokémon evolves with a Moon Stone. (IT IS NOT THE SAME AS THE DUSK BALL! Dusk ball is for catching Pokemon at night where as a Moon Ball catches a Pokemon that can evolve using a Moon Stone such as Clefairy.) Green Apricorn (Friend Ball) The wild Pokémon has a happiness value of 200 after being caught. Catch rate is 1.5X White Apricorn (Fast Ball) If the wild Pokémon is one that flees from battles. (For example, Abra, Magnemite, Grimer, Tangela, Mr. Mime, Eevee, Porygon, Dratini, Dragonair, Quagsire, Entei, Suicune and Raikou.) Black Apricorn (Heavy Ball) Catch rate if the wild Pokémon is: * Between 100kg* and 200kg*: +0 * Between 200kg* and 300kg*: +20 * More than 300kg*: +30 * Under 100kg*: -30 Pink Apricorn (Love Ball) If the player's current Pokémon and the wild Pokémon have opposite genders. Not to mention these Pokeballs have a different appearance compared to the new ones. (This is where I got my info on different kinds of Pokeballs: http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Pok%C3%A9_Ball) Hopefully, we can get our own Pokeballs back. |
Well i really dont see a reason for them not to include the old pokeballs. i thought they were really interesting actually and a big improvement from pokeball, great ball, ultra ball and master ball from R/B/Y xD
|
If they did not put that in then we would riot...right pokefans...right?
|
Woah, thank you GymLeaderLily!!!! I think adding all of the information about each of the Apricorn Pokeballs was a really nice addition. I hope people now realize that they are different from the new pokeballs. :)

I think they'll just use him to remake the 4th gen "specialized" Pokeballs. There'd be compatibility issues between HgSs and DPPt otherwise. It's less fun and less true to the original, but it makes more sense technologically
|
I thought I saw somewhere that they found the data for the Apricorn Balls in the programing for DPP games. That was one reason why people were thinking that there was going to be a GS remake.
I would like to see the Apricorn Balls. THey may have taken a day to make but they were worth it. Having a stockpile of Heavy Balls on you made it much easier to catch those heavy legendaries. Much better then that no good Timer Ball. Nothing against the Timer Ball but yeah.... |
Quote:
|
Haha wouldnt dusk ball just as well for the legendaries in HG/SS like Ho-oh and Lugia? O_O
|
Quote:
|
I think they'll keep the same Pokeballs, and possibly add some new ones.
I can't see them taking them out, I mean, why remove a good feature? |
It would be awesome to have the original ball types obtainable from the aprikorns... but chances are you'll get the new ball types seeing as that would probably be too many types to include all of them. And if you think about it... most of the new ball types are similar to the old g/s/c/ ball types
also I hope that you can do what was possible in crystal and get more than one ball a day... if you had the aprikorns for it |
Confirmed
In One Of The Recent CoroCoro Scans, The Apricot Tree Was Shown Next To Kurt's House. The Apricot Tree Was Also Seen In The First Japanese Trailer

I persoanlly dont think they will keep all of them, for compatability issues with other games, but I am happy that they are at least adding them in. Hoping to see some even newer balls :p
|
They're going to be there, but I really don't want them ;; They should replace all Apricorns with berries to avoid any compatibility issues with DPPt. Either way, I prefer berries better, since all Apricorns do is get carved into PokeBalls :/ Berries have way more useful features like getting blended into poffins and stuff.
|
Quote:
That didn't make sense at all, did it? :cer_shifty: |
bring back heavy balls ^__^
|
I have always got only that first ball that Kurt gives to you after you win Team Rocket at Slowpoke Well. And if I have had too much time I have been there second time to have that ball what becomes from Wht Apricorn, I don't remember what's balls name. But I still like that apricorns are in HG/SS because those things belongs to those games. I don't use time for them but I don't know about others. I always use same balls (Poké Ball, Great Ball, Ultra Ball, maybe sometimes Timer Ball, Quick Ball and Dusk Ball and never Master Ball).
|
Keep the Apricorns and keep the original Pokeballs used in Gold and Silver. It would be silly to make a person wait an entire day for a Pokeball they can easily obtain in Diamond, Pearl or Platinum. I'll wait a day to use a Moon ball (which is used for Pokemon that evolve through a Moon Stone ex. Clefairy) rather than wait a day for a Dusk Ball (A pokeball used to catch pokemon in caves or at night.) Kurt's house is there for a reason. If you don't want to have the Apricorn balls, you don't have to.
|
God if we have to wait a day for these balls, I'll just ignore it like I did when they came out. I like the idea that somebody had of a step count to make the ball. However, if we had to wait a day then maybe it would be a good idea to give us the balls in bulk. Like 5 or 10 per apricorn. Another possibility could be that they allow us to give him more than one apricorn a day, and then we can pick up all of our balls the next day.
Oh and here's a question. Are these balls like, close to master ball status as long sa you lower the hp and have status infliction? Loads of people are talking about heavy ball in particular (to catch legendaries) so I'm under the assumption that you either have massive patience or the balls are really good. |
One possible problem is that if they use new balls, then Pokemon that were caught in them might not be able to get traded to the other games.
|
My bet's on the apricorns being used to create the new specialty Poke Balls, but then make them difficult to find otherwise (ie a few hidden on the maps, prizes, etc, but not bought from stores). I do hope they reduce the waiting time for the balls (or let you drop off many apricorns like in Crystal), though.

I liked the way the balls looked in the anime, I'm dying to see the effects of it in this game and the coloring of it
:t354:TG |
The one thing I'm curious about for those who think Apricorns will definitely be in HgSs, how will they handle the Pokeball on a Pokemon's status screen that shows what ball it was caught in? It's something that can't be changed like equipped items can (unless you cheat but that doesn't count), and we know that the data for Kurt's special Pokeballs isn't in DPPt, otherwise hackers would have found it like they found the Johto location data and Gold/Silver Hometown data. Making Apricorn ball-caught Pokemon untradeable to DPPt would be kind of silly, so I don't think that'll happen either.
|
Well...for compatibility issues there is 2 ways of solving this problem.
1. upon trading to D/P/Pt the apricot ball is replaced with a pokeball. 2. Upon first connection with D/P/Pt, HG/SS sends a download to the games, once downloaded D/P/Pt will be able to view the new Pokeballs, D/P/Pt will then do this to other D/P/Pt games. The reason that this is possible is because, in D/P/Pt, there is programed information for apricots, that is 1 of the many reason why HG/SS was predicted. |
So...I sought out this threat and bumped it because.....Serebii has confirmed that the Apricorns are back!
http://serebii.net/index2.shtml I personally love the idea of being able to grow the Apricorns in a portable container. I always remember it being a pain to run/fly/bike all over Johto seeking out my one Apricorn a day from each tree. Who else is excited that they're back?! |
I am absolutely 100% happy that they are back! This is one of the features that stood out to me in the old game. And the fact that they are bringing back the special pokeballs is even better!!!!! And the portable container?! SICK!!! It is such a great idea!!!
|
I was hoping that they would come back, I love the Apricorns, even though I never took them to Kurt because I was too lazy.
|
Dreams do come true I knew Apricorns would be back. But I wonder how will Nintendo program the DPPt system for Pokémon caught in Ap. Balls. They could just change it into a Pokéball when in other games. |
Yay it was comfirmed so they will be in hg ss
|
I figure since that Platinum and HG/SS were probably in production around the same time, the balls will be able to exist in Platinum. Not so sure about Diamond and Pearl, however.
|
^I don't think so, otherwise hackers would have found the data for Apricorn Balls within the games.
They'll probably do like someone else said and just have it appear as a standard Pokeball. That'd make the most sense. Though it's hard to say, maybe there'll be some sort of update to make the games recognize the new Balls (though that'd seem odd since they didn't do so for new forms). |
i think that growing the Pokéballs yourself is kind of silly. Kurt doesn't even grow them. he builds them. in my personal opinion, kurt should be the only one with the balls.
|
I love those Pokeballs! So cool looking. Especially the Love ball! I can't wait for Hg/SS to come out now. I've never had a chance to try apricorn balls because Johto is the one region I don't have the game for. Thanks for posting the link to the scans!
|
I wonder what purpose Kurt will have now. Maybe it will be for him to give u the container.

Now that the Apricorn Balls were revealed, will the Gen III and Gen IV Pokeballs will still be in?

Neat-o. I guess I was wrong. And I'm glad of it. I think they should have expanded the Moon Ball to work on all stone evolvers, though.
I wonder how you can trade from Johto, unless there was coding for the Apriballs in capture data, or maybe they revert to Pokeballs? |
Im happy the apricorns are back XD Now I can make many diffrent pokeballs :P
|
>:(
ApriCORNs, not ApriCOTs. I take a fence to that. |
Apricorns are now also used to boost PokeThalon stats as berries do for Contests. I wish there were more Apricorns now.
|
Quote:
|
I heard/read a while back that the Gen II Apricorn balls were coded into D/P. Don't know if that's true though.
|
That's interesting... I hope they were coded into DPPt so then we could trade them over
|
Love Ball having a potential 8x Capture rate is too sick
|
Hey, Apricorns also make Pokéjuice, now. (Which raises Pokéthlon stats.)
Also, it's pretty obvious that the new Poké Balls will just appear as normal Poké Balls in the other games, since their data is stored as a number (previously from 0 to 16) and the new balls will just be higher numbers. The way the data is stored, there's a capability of having 256 different kinds of Poké Balls. In Diamond, Pearl or Platinum, if the number is above 16, it will just appear as a normal Poké Ball, because that is the default. This also means that you can trade back to Heart Gold and Soul Silver and the Pokémon will remain in an Apricorn ball if it was in one before you traded it to the older games. |

I think that the Love Ball is a really good idea and is a really good pokeball based on the catch rate and all. Plus the design is cool ^^
I also like the moon ball, lure ball, and the friend ball. I will probably use the Lure and Love ball the most. |
Lure Ball is very useful for something very specific that Net ball can't boast:
Easily-caught Dratini and Dragonair. In RGBY and FRLG, They're only found in the Safari Zone and thus the only option is to use Safari Ball. In GSC, and most likely HGSS, Dratini and Dragonair can be snagged with a Rod south of Blackthorn. Dratini and Dragonair are the only non-Water Types you can get using a Rod, so Lure-Ball beats Net Ball in this situation. Level Ball's capture rate is detremined by how much higher of a level your Pokemon is compared to the wild Pokemon's level. Nest Ball only Calculates the wild Pokemon's Level. The highest leveled wild Pokemon that could possibly make Level-Ball work to its Max is level 25 and you having a Level 100, as having x4 or More the level of the wild Pokemon's level makes it reach its maximum efficiency. Maximum Capture Rate for Level Ball: x8 Maximum Capture Rate for Nest Ball: x3 Moon Ball will also work on Skitty if it appears in HG/SS Heavy Ball will do wonders for Groudon in SS, as it's the Heaviest Pokemon in the series thusfar Love Ball is most Helpful if you're trying to catch Pokemon that can only have one Gender. You'll know exactly what to do. If regular Wild Pokemon can still run like the originals, Fast Ball works on these Pokemon: -Abra -Magnemite -Grimer -Tangela -Mr. Mime -Eevee* -Porygon* -Dratini -Dragonair -Quagsire -Phanphy -Raikou -Entei -Suicune *Can't be found in the wild, but in the Coding in GSC, they get affected by Fast Ball still. IIRC, Pokemon caught in a Friend Ball have a Higher Happiness level than ones caught in Luxury Ball, but don't quote me on this. Ah, the Nostalgia. |
Wow you really know a lot! Thanks for posting that ^^
|

I forgot to add Phanphy to the Fast Ball list, as it runs away alot, too. Edit: Done. |
