This is going to be the longest eclipse of the century, climaxing for over 6 minutes at its purest point. It will be most visible over China, and Japan will get a pretty good view, too.

Anyway, discuss!

I'm confused. Are you talking about an eclipse, or Paris Hilton?

Anyways, I'll probably see it becuase my dad watches out for all these things and breaks out his telescope and forces me to look.

I'll put this in words everyone can understand.

THE SUN WILL GO DARK.

And as for the doom of the Earth? It's not gonna happen in 2012. Trust me. It was supposed to end a while ago.

>_> Scientists predicting doom because of an eclipse? Oh, you mean scientologists. Or that crackpot Moore.

Anyway, I think that you were misinformed, but the followers of the Hindu religion believe that eclipses are caused by two demons swallowing the sun. They believe eclipses are times when food rots, water stagnates and generally uncool stuff goes down. Hindu people are urged to spend this time fasting, meditating, repenting, and taking ritual baths.

I feel cheated. D: I've never (to my memory) seen a solar eclipse before. XD;

Shem July 20th, 2009 8:09 PM

I have never seen the solar eclipse, although i remember the day when one was visible in our area, it was nice and cloudy that day -.-'

But I did see the total lunar eclipse, which I personally think is way cooler anyway because the moon turns blood red as it's starting to become eclipsed =D

Was the one that happened like a year ago? It was red because of volcanic gases in the air, I think. Anyway, it was ****ing beautiful.

Miss Soupy July 20th, 2009 9:01 PM

... Ya know, I wouldn't be surprised if there's a ton of people on the streets panicking when it hits. D: But I think this is gonna be really cool. I don't think I've seen an eclipse that I can recall offhand.

Speaking of eclipses and things of that nature the planet Mars is going to be about the size of the moon at the end of August. It will be the closest Mars has been to earth in 5000 years. If I remember correctly it won't happen again for another 5000 years after that.

Really? Sweet, I'll check that out. Thanks for the info! I owe you.

Esper July 20th, 2009 9:37 PM

This will be my second solar eclipse. I just hope it isn't cloudy.

No, it happened many years ago, I'm not exactly sure how many =/

Mitchman July 20th, 2009 10:01 PM

6 minutes without the sun eh. Well that sounds fun if not completely scary cause if it lasts longer...

Captain Fabio July 21st, 2009 2:46 AM

Yey.
Our planet will be deprived of pure sun for 6 minutes...

Kazukii July 21st, 2009 2:48 AM

Oooh I've never seen a solar eclipse.. this should be interesting.

Blue Mew July 21st, 2009 3:05 AM

I've seen a solar eclipse before... But I only saw it when I was 7-8 ... But as far as I can recall, I think they are beautiful things to see.

Thousands of overseas tourists and potentially millions of Chinese are flocking to areas along the eclipse path, where hotels are charging higher rates, according to Chinese media reports.
Well, they certainly know how to make their money.

Too bad I'm on the wrong side of the earth. :[

Trap-Eds July 21st, 2009 5:06 AM

I've never seen an eclispe, lunar or solar. But I'm flying back to the States tommorrow...maybe I'll catch a glimpse...
We're gonna be devoid of sun for six minutes? It takes about eight minutes for light to reach us, right?

I Laugh at your Misfortune! July 21st, 2009 6:39 AM

I'm guessing that we won't see much from England, huh? D:

NeonFire July 21st, 2009 8:44 AM

I've never seen a solar eclipse before. It looks amazing.
I have seen a full lunar eclipse, though. It was awesome.

Aaand...the end of the world?
I'm still confused about the 2012 thing.
Weird. xD

Anxiety. July 21st, 2009 9:17 AM

I saw a Solar eclipse when I was very little.

I'm looking forward to it! And, wait, 22nd? That's tomorrow! Dude, I gotta see this!
