Future of PC

How do you see PC in 20-30 years? How many mods or staff members? Do you think PC will be still alive? Discuss the future on PC here!

Pokehead July 21st, 2009 9:07 PM

Knowing how the internet works, PC might be alive in the next 5 years. I think many of us will be back to see how the yungns are doing, and maybe trade a little ourselves (I plan to anyhow :P).

Though I've only been a member for about a month now, I have to say, I really like people here at PC, most are quite friendly and not very elitist, something that's hard to find in internet forums these days. If anything, I hope that spirit remains.

I Laugh at your Misfortune! July 22nd, 2009 4:26 AM

I have a weird feeling that I'm going to be here for years and years and years :D

Yamikarasu July 22nd, 2009 4:38 AM

I'm pretty sure the earliest members have already been here for 6 years, so it can be done. I've been here for only one year, not counting that I lurked here before I registered. I don't plan to leave anytime soon.

I would think something would come up within 20 or 30 years to cause PC to shut down. However, no websites on the internet have been around for 30 years, and very few have been around for more than twenty, since the internet hasn't exist for more than 25 or so years. So we really don't know how long PC might last.

If Pokemon is still even a remotely popular franchise (It can happen, look at Mickey Mouse or even Mario) then there will be communities for it, and there isn't any reason PC won't be one of the major communities like it is now.

kohei July 22nd, 2009 4:49 AM

PC may merge with some other online Pokemon community in the future, but since the fandom is still so huge, I believe it will stay.

Heck, even after Pokemon is gone, it maybe left standing for people to discuss about it, and as resource for media studies students/professors as well.

Captain Fabio July 22nd, 2009 5:55 AM

I am sure, if it was still here in 20 - 30 years time, nearly everyone would have left to life their life...

Mitchman July 22nd, 2009 6:26 AM

I see PC in 20 years being part of the old net a net so old and dull that augmented reality isn't available in their imaging and it can't support touch controls.

Ayselipera July 22nd, 2009 7:45 AM

As long as there is a stong fan base of pokemon lovers then yes. The only way I could see it ending is if pokemon stopped making games, shows, etc. and there was no longer a new generation to become interested in it since there wouldn't be anything to introduce them to it.

Kazukii July 22nd, 2009 7:54 AM

I respect PC & all but I doubt it'll still be going strong by then.. I get the feeling Pokemon might have died by then.

yomamathecableguy July 22nd, 2009 8:00 AM

Well, I've been here for almost 2 years now, and I have only seen improvement. There have been no signs of decline at all, which is pretty impressive for a forum. I think PC will be here for a long, long while. At least I hope it is. ^_^

Cherrim July 22nd, 2009 8:15 AM

Well, so long as we (read: Steve XD) have the means to keep it up, I'm sure PC will be here. Assuming it doesn't cave in on itself while it's still popular, I imagine Pokemon will slowly lose popularity and "die out" and PC will just sort of fade into obscurity and just be around for those who use it to socialize with friends anyway. By then I can't imagine it'd take too many resources so a select group could probably keep it afloat.

But yeah, it's already been 7 years and Pokemon shows no sign of stopping so... as long as it's able to, PC will be around.

ShadowLeader July 22nd, 2009 8:47 AM

One of these two:

Pokémon looses popularity, PC shrivels up and dies.

or

Pokémon looses popularity, PC improvises and creates even more sections devoted to non-Pokémon related topics and such and continues to thrive for years to come.

Basically, it all depends on if the Admins decide to let it die or not. They control the future:O

BHwolfgang July 22nd, 2009 8:53 AM

It will die in 2012... Well, that's my prediction.

Cid July 22nd, 2009 9:07 AM

I've been thinking about it before. I've got thoughts on what would happen after 5 years or so, but not 20-30 years.

In 5 years, I think PC will still be here, and I'll still be here (lurking), but in 20-30 years, there will probably be an event to cause PC to shut down, as I saw Yamikarasu post.

In terms of Pokemon losing popularity, ending or anything of the sort, I don't think that would completely stop PC from continuing. People who like to go here because of the community part will still hang out and be around. But It'd greatly remove a whole lot of new users to come, I'm sure of that.

It's possible that PC will still be around after that long, as long as the people don't get tired of being here.

Mewtwo42 July 22nd, 2009 12:13 PM

I see this forum still alive even after Pokémon has lost most its popularity. There will still be die-hard pokemon fans from around the world posting on PC.

Gerri Shin July 22nd, 2009 12:19 PM

If PC is still around in 20 years and I'm still here, I'll be one old old old guy here. I have my doubts about any of this though mostly about me being here that far along the road.

Rogue planet July 22nd, 2009 12:30 PM

PC would not exist in 20 years because the internet would have imploded by then.

Caelus July 22nd, 2009 12:44 PM

It might exist within 20-30 years if Pokemon is still popular by then or if new generations are still coming, though unlikely.

I would probably still be here by then, mostly inactive anyway...

Or it could die within a few years and only the more dedicated members would still be here. Who knows.

Citrinin July 22nd, 2009 1:16 PM

I don't think Pokémon would still be popular by then (of course, if it is, there's little reason this should die out). However, like some others have alluded to, the networks forged on PC will (hopefully) remain,

If pokemon stops being produced, this forum will die a years following due to a lack of new members.... pokemon won't last forever.

In the event Pokémon dies out, the forum will have to change its focus to other things, like so:

Ace Combat, Call of Duty, Command & Conquer, Diablo, Final Fantasy, Gears of War, Grand Theft Auto, Half-Life, Halo, Kingdom Hearts, Metal Gear Solid, Persona, StarCraft, Tales, Touhou, and Warcraft Community - We're still working on a shorter name!
(We used to have Pokémon boards!)

How much do you want to bet something like that will happen within the next decade or so?

Corvus of the Black Night July 22nd, 2009 3:47 PM

I don't, but Master Hama does!

http://goldensun.rpgplanet.gamespy.com/images/icons/lg/master_hama.png< PC will become a Golden Sun forum.)

... but isn't that what... Golden Sun forums are for?...

http://goldensun.rpgplanet.gamespy.com/images/icons/lg/master_hama.png< With the release of GS DS, EVERYONE WILL LOVE GOLDEN SUN MWUAHAHAHAAHAAHAHA)

Jesus Christ! I think Master Hama wants to hack into PC to make it a Golden Sun forum!

RUN, WHILE YOU STILL LIKE POKéMON.

dotKarma July 22nd, 2009 5:35 PM

Ehh, Pokemon will have probably died out by then, unless it somehow stays around or makes a comeback after dying out, so I doubt it.

jasonresno July 22nd, 2009 5:47 PM

Man, I think I've been here pushing six years. Just not active the entire time. It's really hard to gauge thirty years though, IMO. The internet and our concept of what it is to connect via forums and such could be completely changed by some innovation. Or one day the guys running this site might decide to shut it down. It's just really hard to know.

I think that a forum like this, provided nothing happens to the administrators or their want to keep the site going, can be completely comfortable in its skin for years to come.

Haza July 22nd, 2009 6:16 PM

It would be amazing if the internet in 20 yrs was still anything the way it is but Im not expecting it to exist that long.
