This game is absolutely amazing. Be sure to look forward to taking pictures of a Rhyhorn eating grass!
|
It looks like a spin-off... a really good spin-off, not that Pokemon Dash or Trozei garbage. And yeah, you need to work on the story. Good luck with that.
|
This looks very interesting.
Though one question. For the camera, is it like how the safari zone works? Or is it different? Also, I like what you did with the menu. So, the point of the game is to take pictures then right? |
Looks very good.
I really like the features, i can't wait for more updates. Good luck!:) |

It's going to be much more side-quest/minigame orientated really, and I've got a whole stack of those planned. :] Quote:
The bag menu or the bait script? And yes, that's the point. :] |
A very different hack indeed. A nice concept but as you say the storyline needs some developing for sure. For example, this "reward" seems as if it is going to be difficult to determine. As i've looked over what you've put on paper so far all i can forsee is a small shortlived hack as it doesn't seem as if it would have great life span. The other thing i'm sceptical is how you plan on having the action or how you're actually going to take the picture for example. Will you be using the "Safari Zone" battle script or be doing something different? Either way it seems good but i think if the entire hack is going to be just like catching pokemon in the safari but instead capturing images i can see that aspect of the game getting slightly bland and boring. Again i don't know what your intention is or whether you've developed one in detail.
Your spriting is very good and your inserting is very clean. You're using Unlz well too. The hack looks very nice and fresh and well layed out i just don't know how longlived the storyline can be. For this type of hack you are going to have so much space to work with. Side quests are definately going to be a key aspect to keep this going. For storylines and sort of different side quests and storylines, the Pokemon Ranger games are quite good. So try looking at the spin offs for ideas too. I would first suggest you develop the storyline, work on side quests then explain how the photo taking will work. I do like your aspect and it is an ambitious idea. I wish you the best of look and i shall be keeping my eye on this and taking note of your updates. Hooray for something different. ;] |
You know, I really liked the film roll idea you had before.
With the concept of like, "basic film, great film, ultra film, etc." It kind of kept the concept of Pokeballs in the game, without not having them there. But, whatever floats your boat. Best of luck, to you :D |
Both of them.
They both are nice. How does the bait work? Does it enable a Pokemon to be spawned on that tile? |
@Abnegation: I'm actually pretty optimistic about having enough things to do, this is the second time around attempting this hack for me and before I was sceptical like you.
Now however It's all going a lot smoother, I have plenty of side stories. Here's a few just so you can get an idea of what they'll be like:
As for the battle system I'm going to have to make a video to explain it, and will do so once there's enough to show. @Sublime: The way the safari script works means that you don't get to choose the ball you throw unfortunately, so there would be no actual choice as to what film to use. The way it's going to work now is you will have to buy various upgrades for your camera to improve the likelihood that the photo will come out all right. These might be such things as new lenses, a flash, ASR technology etc. Once you have bought one of these upgrades it will swap the ball you're using for a different one, giving the impression your camera is better. This is going to require some ASM though, as safari mode doesn't actually use pokeballs like normal battles would. It doesn't use up any items, it has it it's own count of 30 safari balls which have no physical presence in your bag. @Mages4ever It'll work in the same way that using the fishing rod does, except that you'll be able to move around as opposed to when holding the rod. |
A risky and interesting idea I must say. I'm curious how you will pull off the actual taking pictures part...
Also, killer thread design. |
I love you. lol. jk.
But I've always wanted a remake of Snap, or Snap-esque game on GBA. I've attempted just mapping the places in Snap, but haven't put it to a single hack yet. Anyways, it looks really nice so far. Good luck. |
wow cool ^.^ I think this will be great! Suree I will get it after it completed XD
|
If it comes off..Hack o' the year...If not, then it may be an embarrasement.
I'm leaning toward success though fish, You are one multi-talented bish. barney's poetic skills shining through there |

But, I also see taking pictures of Rhyhorns eating grass is not on this list >: ( |
this is gonna be fun to play but how will viewing pictures you taken work though
and how did you make that css where it scrolls to different parts of the first post |
Wow a spin off hack!
great idea and is on emerald my favorite rom =D just change the tiles and it will be good! I wish you luck! |
I'm liking the idea of this.
I'll keep my eye on it. The idea itself seems pretty interesting. |
This is one of the most original ideas for a hack I've ever seen!
I really love the concept of this! :D And I look forward to playing this. The weird thing is, I never thought that you would make a hack, but oh well~ Anyways, good luck~ |
Thanks for the support. :]
Just some new screenshots before I go to bed: http://www.jetrix.co.uk/pokecommunity/safari/screens/cardreader.png http://www.jetrix.co.uk/pokecommunity/safari/screens/menu.png http://www.jetrix.co.uk/pokecommunity/safari/screens/boat.png At the moment I'm researching ASM, scripting the beginning sequence of the boat trip to Mahronge and working on the new card reader feature as seen above. |
Good looking screen shots also cool memory
card feature this looks like it will be a great hack keep up the good work and good luck |
I had a few spare minutes.

Nice original idea, but what happens when you run out of film?
|
There is no film.
You start off with a photo album, once that has six photos in it any photos you take after that will be tossed away. Later on in the game you can buy a memory card. After purchasing that if your album is full it'll save it to that, you can then access those photos by going to a PC. |
Here's an idea.
You know the Pokemon Girafarig? Well, you could do something like, you get assigned to go to a Savannah or something and it's the main habitat of Girafarig. So, you are hired to take pictures of the Girafarig. The bigger (higher level) you get, the more you are payed. |
