Typhlosion
Meganium

Musashi ✖ August 4th, 2009 3:48 AM

I'd say Cindaquil.
It may be a lil' bit hard for the first 2/3 gyms, but after that it starts to get pretty easy. Cindaquil's last evoloution (Typhlosion) is a badass one and it may make the league quite simple at that.
Fire moves are way powerful, ya' know? ;D

This is just an opinion. It doesn't mean, Cindaquil is ACTUALLY the best starter. I just said it by proper experience.

xxChazxx August 4th, 2009 4:07 AM

I usually go with Chikorita, as there are so few grass types worth catching.

Roxasabridged August 4th, 2009 4:24 AM

Chikorita. Cute and deadly. Nothing beats that.

Except Charmander...

Sweet Smoochum August 4th, 2009 4:35 AM

I've read somewhere that Cyndaquil was for beginners (because it can beat the most gyms), Tododile was for intermediate, and Chikorita was for advanced players who would like a challenge.

They are all awesome. It's so hard to choose. Chikorita was the first Pokemon I've ever had. Tododile and Cyndaquil are cute, too, but I didn't really like Croconaw.

Feraligatr can learn Ice moves (to defeat Meganium) and Water moves (to defeat Typhlosion.)

However, Typhlosion can learn Fire moves (to defeat Meganium) and ThunderPunch (to defeat Feraligatr.)

Meganium can use Grass moves against Feraligatr, but it can also learn EARTHQUAKE and use it on Typhlosion.

lolcats August 4th, 2009 4:36 AM

i could have swarn it was

Cyndaquil
totadile
Chicorita

but yea Cyndaquil owns

best starters for pokemon i found

R/B - Bulbasaur
S/G/C - Cyndaquil
R/S - Mudkip
D/P/P - Piplup

Team Rocket's Raichu August 4th, 2009 6:47 AM

Fire Pokemon are awesome! So I choose you Cyndaquil.

~*!*~Tatsujin Gosuto~*!*~ August 4th, 2009 6:50 AM

I've always picked water starters from there and upward so its Feraligatr for me

:t354:TG

Painter August 4th, 2009 6:55 AM

i was thinking feraligatr but then i remembered the red gyarados so its either typhlosion or meganium 4 me

yoshikiller995 August 4th, 2009 7:12 AM

I've to go with Feraligator myself, but I do really like Cyndaquil's.

シルバー August 4th, 2009 7:22 AM

Cyndaquil all the way.
Totodile is my second favorite c:

I have always picked fire types, exception to Yellow with Pikachu as your first starter. But I did have a Lvl.100 Charizard xD

Fenrir Reki August 4th, 2009 7:35 AM

Probably Cyndaquil because it does well against most gym leaders and it has much more of an advantage than the other two pokemon.

Calvo819 August 4th, 2009 7:47 AM

awesome moveset for Typhlosion i use

Flamethrower
Thunderpunch
Earthquake
Shadow Claw / Aerial Ace/ SolarBeam

i use shadow claw, it helps more than the other two

King of Dragons August 4th, 2009 8:06 AM

For this game Cyndaquil is the best starter.

In the other ones, I pick the Water type starter.

Pokestick, good times. August 4th, 2009 8:11 AM

None, because neither of those are starters. Their pre-evolutions are, though.
(it's OK, I get the point)
The one I think is best of those mentioned is Typhloison, if you're going that way.

bluecat August 4th, 2009 8:28 AM

Love my fire Pokemon, so it's gonna be Cyndaquil. :D

Mr Fizzwidget August 4th, 2009 8:29 AM

I've gone with meganium, but I only really like Bayleef out of the 3 grass evolutions

Timbjerr August 4th, 2009 8:37 AM

It's all a matter of opinion when it comes to the Johto starters as none of them gain a secondary type, and you can find at least one other decent Grass, Fire, and Water-type before the second gym.

Personally, I like Cyndaquil for Typhlosion's design more than anything. :P

thegeneticway August 4th, 2009 9:53 AM

None of those are starters.

The starter I like is Totodile

K3fka August 4th, 2009 10:26 AM

What is this with everyone voting for the Cyndaquil line? The Totodile line is clearly superior to every other starter line ever.

Ayselipera August 4th, 2009 12:57 PM

I'd have to say Chikorita.
Mostly for Bayleef. :D

Equus August 4th, 2009 2:18 PM

I prefer using Totodile over the other two. My starter choice has been Grass for every game except G/S/C.

Also, I have to say Chikorita is my 2nd choice.

Evilpkmn August 4th, 2009 3:12 PM

I prefer Totodile because it have a good attack and defense and that stats are very useful at the begining of the game , so it is the best Sarter (for the begining of the game).

Cindaquil is fast but only that (it hasn't a lot of useful moves)

Chikorita is a good choice but I don't like this sort of defensive pokemon and it is because I chose totodile.

BowtiePenguin August 4th, 2009 3:37 PM

Ooh, there are a lot of Typhlosion fans here... I say Meganium because it's adorable. ^^; It's also pretty handy in most situations (particularly in caves and while Surfing, which is when teams tend to be worn down the most, in my experience) and trumps the first few Gyms.

I like Feraligtr too, though, and I've never raised one, so it's a bit of a toss-up. :/

PiplupGHacker August 4th, 2009 3:39 PM

Jeez, and I thought totodile was overrated

A Real True Winner Is Me August 4th, 2009 3:40 PM

Typhlosion, all the way.

I don't like crocodiles and green dinosaurs.

Kylix August 4th, 2009 3:41 PM

Definetly Thyplosion, it's just so awesome, now if you're talking about cuteness I would go with totodile, but that's completely unrelated

Eggie Poo Poo August 4th, 2009 3:43 PM

There is no "best" starter, each starter is kickass depending on how you use it in your team, personally I like the Water type the most. I rarely go with Grass unless it's Sceptile. I don't like Venusaur, Meganium and Torterra that much =( (sorry to all you Meganium fans out there).

Also, LOL @ the name of this thread "Who do you is the best starter pokemon"? "Who do you is"? Lol typo xD

Luck August 4th, 2009 3:44 PM

I don't prefer using the word best when referring to 2nd gen pokemon, I use the least bad. It has to be typhlosion, because he has an average attack stat, and can learn thunderpunch. Feraligatr was just a bad idea(water pokemon with high attack?) and didn't get any improvements UNTIL D/P/P, and meganium STILL didn't get anything to make it less useless. I'm pretty sure that the strongest STAB move that meganium learns until giga drain is razor leaf. but in looks only, chikorita is win.

PokemonOI August 4th, 2009 3:46 PM

I'd have to go with Chikorita! that was always my choice. then the next pick would be Cyndaquil but chikorita all the way

Misty4Life August 4th, 2009 6:36 PM

I have to say Chikorita. Although I usually pick the fire starter (Charmander, Torchic, Chimchar), Chikorita and her line of evolutions are just too cool to pass up! And if it's true that it makes the game harder to have a Chikorita, that makes it even better! I like a challenge. Cyndaquil would probably be my next choice, though.

Devil's Guitarist August 4th, 2009 6:39 PM

Typh own all hahaha best poke ever

espa_roba11 August 4th, 2009 9:47 PM

I pick feraligator. I love teh crocs and dragies too.

Chary August 4th, 2009 10:36 PM

You gotta love Feralgatr!! Him following me in HGSS would scare me though...
Typhlosion is Awesome too, and so is Meganium, but for me I like Feralgatr just a notch above Typhlosion.

R/B/Y-Charizard Impossible to not love!!!!!
G/S/C-Feralgatr-I most likely will trade a cyndaquil to Soul Silver though, cause I like that combo.typhlosion+feralgatr=Ultra Destuction!!!
R/S/E-Sceptile,SO CUTE!!! ...er ehem...
D/P/P- Torterra- There just too cool!

But Just Saying-No Pokemon Really Is The Best,These Are Just Favorites

Soul Silver August 4th, 2009 11:18 PM

My vote goes to totodile because i generally favour water pokemon in general, but cyndaquil runs a very close second.

Dark Destiny August 5th, 2009 7:45 AM

Meganium in my opinion is erm... Okay? In all pokemon games, I will always inevitably pick the grass type first, I just love them for some reason. Although I've only played G/S/C and D/P/Pt. I played yellow and never played 3rd gen games =p

Meganium isn't great although my favourite has got to be chikorita and bayleef. Maganium is quite ugly imo. However as I replay games, I'll pick the fire types. Typhlosion ftw! But true to my word, I voted meganium ^^

Demigod August 5th, 2009 7:57 AM

NONE of those are starters.. jesus christ i hate when peoples consider the evolutions.
but
Feraligatr

xoBoxxy August 5th, 2009 8:20 AM

It all depends on personal preferance really, but Feraligatr for me. Won many battles for me :-3

Live Update King August 6th, 2009 4:53 AM

I love the Johto starters especially the fire one

Painter August 6th, 2009 5:06 AM

i like all of them but for the one im actually going to use will have to be meganium unless they include a better grass type because water=red gyarados fire=arcanine grass=...... if they come out with a good grass then i will pick typhlosion

Fuzion August 6th, 2009 5:20 AM

Cyndaquil - He's allways been my favourite Pokemon through all the series.

Tox August 6th, 2009 5:40 AM

I always choose Cyndaquil.

R/B/FR/LG - Charmander.
G/S/C/HG/SS - Cyndaquil.
R/S/E - Torchic/Mudkip.
D/P/P - Turtwig.

Painter August 6th, 2009 6:10 AM

R/B/Fr/Lg - Charmander
G/S/HG/SS - feraligatr/ meganium/typhlosion so hard to choose
R/S/E - Treeko
D/P/Pt - Piplup

JLP_M August 6th, 2009 6:25 AM

oh gosh, i always like totodile, but not really feraligator, and there's something of typhlosion i don't really like either
