Map Hack Of Week!!!

Hello, I am Oddishinator151, and I am going to run "Map Hack Of Week!!!" as a contest between you ROM hackers of who has the best made map area from the week. Since most other map hack contests have been disappearing I thought id start one up for some competitive fun again!

I will allow this thread to sit for 3 days (after that no more map entries are allowed till the next week) and let you ROM hackers upload your pictures of your hacked maps to allow the public here on Poke'community vote on them based on a points system I have created below. If you would like, you may write a small description about the map explaining it a bit to the voters.

*Point system for voters (based on 1-10 pts)*
[ E N T E R M A P H A C K E R S N A M E H E R E ]

+ Placement of trees,rocks,plants,etc. [#]
+ Path creativity and path collaboration [#]
+ Look of the map (empty to "blooming") [#]
+ Time thought spent on making map [#]
+ Overall Total [ Add up all #'s ]

Voters may write feedback on the maps

-- NOTE TO ALL VOTERS MUST VOTE FOR EVERY MAP UPLOADED FOR THE WEEK TO BE VALID AND ALL VOTES ARE TO BE PRIVATE MESSAGED TO ME (THE BOLD PART OF POINTS SYSTEM ONLY PLEASE), Feedback on the maps will be posted by myself under the right ROM hacker. --

Rules Rules Rules : : :
1) For votes to be valid, you must have 25+ posts on Poke'community
2) Vulgar feedback will not be accepted and your vote will be denied
3) Remember this is for fun :]!!

Winners will be announced every week and I will keep a time line update on when uploading is happening and when the votes end and are announced.

WINNER OF WEEK ONE (only one voter.....:[!!) - cooley - CONGRATULATIONS WITH A OVERALL SCORE OF 36/40

August 15th 10:30 PM (EST) - August 18th 10:30 PM (EST) -- UPLOADING MAPS --

August 18th 10:30 PM (EST) - August 25th 10:30 PM (EST) -- VOTING TAKE PLACE --

I guess I'll enter a map. ^_^

Logan August 6th, 2009 10:09 AM

Might as well. sasquatch is here, damn xD

Aljam August 6th, 2009 10:25 AM

Meh. Here's my so-so map.

miksy91 August 6th, 2009 11:47 AM

Sounds like a good idea but why not change the title to Map of the Week or something ?
Map Hack sounds weird and to think of it these maps aren't hacked just edited.

cooley August 6th, 2009 1:46 PM

Yeah, think I'll enter in a map too.

MASTEROFPUPPETS93 August 6th, 2009 4:46 PM

MOP is here :D

Here's mine. It's nothing special, but it's one I rather like.
Credits to Kyledove if necessary.
Oh, and yes you can slide over the icy pond.

Tyrantrum August 6th, 2009 7:33 PM

First me, then Alice., now you... Let's hope this doesn't die.

Ninja Caterpie August 7th, 2009 3:02 AM

While I try to rekindle my past love for mapping for next week or the week after, have fun with a placeholder map!

Crimson Stardust August 7th, 2009 4:15 AM

Might as well try my luck....

Vrai August 8th, 2009 8:02 PM

Erm, right. Why do we have to PM the votes to you? Why can't we vote here? For all we know, you could just make the votes go in whatever direction you please (I'm sure you wouldn't, but everything's a possibility.)

I know him haha. He wouldn't do that. I don't think we need to worry. ^_^

Maybe if you let people vote here instead of having to PM you, you'll get more votes?

Ninja Caterpie August 15th, 2009 8:37 PM

Yeah, some people are quite lazy like that.

1) This doesn't look official at all. It's very disorganized and the constant CAP LOCK doesn't help at all.

2) If you start a per-week competition, make sure you can keep doing it. Don't start it if you don't think you'll be able to keep it alive.

3) The whole PM-voting doesn't make any sense to me. Like someone mention before, you can easily manipulate the votes for any reason. Isn't voting here more simpler and reliable?

4) I don't like the 'Time thought spent on the map'. It has nothing to do with the map itself. I could be a fast mapper and make good maps or a fast mapper, but make poor maps. Same thing vice-versa. The more time spent on the map doesn't necessarily mean the map will be better.

It doesn't seem disorganized to me. And I think the caps are there to be clear about things.

He hasn't shown any hint of not continuing it. If it's just future advice that you are giving out, then I apologize for taking it wrong.

Everyone needs to stop complaining so much. Apparently none of you read the, "Remember this is for fun!" rule. So what if you have to PM him to vote? Don't anyone say that it's harder that way. It's the same amount of clicks. It's one extra damn click. So sorry you guys can't raise your post count for a vote. And his voting system is the best that Map of the Week has ever had. It makes you go though each of the maps rather than voting for whatever one jumps out at you first. And trust me, a majority of the votes in the old Map of the Week threads were just, "I vote for blahblahblah because the shape is good and the combination of tiles and palettes go well together." All of your arguments against this thread are just pointless, save for the one about the time spent on making the map.

On a lighter note...

Spoiler:
http://img34.imagefra.me/img/img34/2/8/12/sasquatchd00d/f_u0ugggwjmwm_4de073e.pngAlso, there's nothing in this spoiler originally. Quit wasting people's time. :|

As SharpPoint said, it's easier to manipulate the votes that way, because we, as normal/supporter members, can't view the votes submitted by PM. I do agree his rating system is pretty well thought-out, though.

Oh and by the way, we may be complaining, but a little complaining is good every once in a while. It's actually another form of criticism if taken correctly.

Also, we never said it was harder to PM him the votes, but, it leaves room for manipulation of the vote count, which, would be biased.

You call the ability (not that s/he would, but we don't know) to manipulate votes good? I still say publicly announcing the votes is better, because everyone can track them, and such there are more witnesses to the votes.

Another thing, what the hell does the "Remember, this is for fun!" rule have to do with the voting system?

I don't agree with most of what you said. I understand making some points clear by using caps but he went a little bit too far. And yes, technically speaking, it is harder to PM vote instead of posting. The box for posting is right at the bottom yet to PM him you'd have to click his name to view his profile, click send message, then give the PM a title, then type the votes. By posting, you save time and money. (Lulz, it takes power for every minute a comp/laptop is on) That way, it's better for the environment! So actually no, none of my arguments are 'pointless'. If they had no point, I wouldn't have said it. You are just saying they are pointless because you don't agree with them. So sad...

Edit: I am not saying is harder to vote through PM. So don't say that.

Yes, the votes may be manipulated. Although in the older threads, the votes could also be manipulated to an extent, whereas the validity of votes was at the discretion on the topic creator. Seeing them does help, I agree there, but it's not really needed. This was approved by destinedjagold and if Alice or Vrai thinks that there could be the possibility of vote manipulation they could just make him make the votes public.

I agree with your criticism point too. I may have gone too far with the complaints. Maybe it's just my frustration with all the complaining over in HeartGold/SoulSilver that put me over the top.

It was said that some people are too lazy to PM. Lazy people look for the easy route.

No, no, no. Of course not! That would be ludicrous. I was merely stating that to vote you have to go through every map is better than previous threads.

I was talking about the complaining. Have fun with it, don't complain. It's not like this is Hack of the Year... right?

If you click "Go Advanced" like I do every time, that's one click. Or you can click the user name and then click one more time on "Send a Private Message to...". That's two clicks. There's no navigating to their profile. And yes, "pointless," was an exaggeration. Sorry about that.

While you are right that in any voting system that we know off, the votes can be maniupulated, some, more than others.

It could be HG/SS getting to you, but I think you did go a bit too far, in my opinion. No harm done, though. I understand how you feel. (Believe me, we all can do regretful things when we're in bad moods. *nod nod*)

Lazy people do take the easy route, but sometimes, there's no point in taking the harder, longer path.

Ah, I see what you mean now. Excuse me for that.

I agree. You should just have fun with it, but, it doesn't hurt to mention when something's wrong. And no, it isn't Hack of the Year, but it is still a competition.

Also, I do think making the votes public would yield more votes, thus leading to less, overall bias.

Anyways, I might be in the mood for making a map for this tomorrow, so I might try my luck again. But, only one vote is bad. No second opinion, nothing. But, it's not the OP's or our fault.

Ninja Caterpie August 15th, 2009 11:32 PM

Wind, this place has a larger diversity of maps, instead of a pre-made selection of maps. Yours was already biased from the start. This wasn't.

Now go away.

Still, I REALLY don't see why we should PM it! I'm not being lazy or anything, but it's EXACTLY the same to post it here, and it's easier for everyone to see the votes all put together here. >_>

sasquatchd00d August 15th, 2009 11:34 PM

I'll ask him to change the votes to be posted in the thread. I'll see him Monday if he isn't online by then. I don't think he'll say no.
