Sidequests-Too much or too little?

So in HGSS we get not only a new sidequest of the pokethlon but the addition of a frontier and now with berry growing in as well the possibility of contests is very high. Now then do you think so many sidequests is a good thing or a bad thing? I personally love it as it gives you a chance to do other stuff and keep the game going. Of course I would have preferred if your choice of the 3 would determine your choice of sports, contests, or battles in your second go but yeah.

Samme! August 8th, 2009 9:21 AM

I love the amount of sidequests in the games. It will give me a lot more to do and they all sound like a lot of fun. I also think that people who are mad about these additions will eventually come to like them because they are better than nothing ^^.

Retro Bug August 8th, 2009 9:25 AM

Who would ever say they're a bad thing, they're optional aren't they? So if you don't like, don't do them. Personally, I love to have more to do after I beat the "plot", otherwise I just get bored of the game, and stop playing it.

KurlyFries August 8th, 2009 10:09 AM

There can never be too many good sidequests.
Note the use of the word 'good'.

I personally don't want contests in HG/SS. And if there is, I hope it's in some obscure corner of the game where the only reward or merit is a fancy ribbon to put on a Pokemon.

If anyone wants my two cents I hope there's a shiny collector in the game who likes to see shinies (similar to the Giant Magikarp/Barboach/Shroomish guy) that gives you an awesome reward if he sees one.

Mew~ August 8th, 2009 10:30 AM

I think its a great idea somones the games can start to get boring so it gives you more to do and be...un-bored?

thelaytonmobile August 8th, 2009 11:04 AM

Personally I think more sidequests is good, as it increases the chance that there will be one I will like. However, I don't like having to win them, say to get a star for the trainer card, as I happen to be terrible at most of them. As long as they have variety (by which I mean different strategies) that's fine by me, for example, in RSE you had combos in the contests, but in DPP they were gone and you had to play all sorts of extra minigames to win, which I think is the wrong sort of overcomplicated.

mew² August 8th, 2009 11:06 AM

Personally, I think we should get more sidequests. You can never have to many sidequests.

ShinyMeganium August 8th, 2009 11:09 AM

Two things I think about games:
The longer the better
You can't have too much features...unless it won't run on your machine.

The game definitely won't have too few side quests, and if you'll keep enjoying it even after you finish all the main game parts (probably happened mostly with Platinum, a lot of it thanks to the wifi and other features), both you and the developers/anyone who made the game profits.

Kyledove August 8th, 2009 11:28 AM

I dont think sidequest is really the right word. A sidequest is usually like a story that deviates from the main story. It is usually a quest, like I dunno...pokemon doesn't really have many sidequests. I suppose there's the ones like the ruin maniac that wants you to bring him all the unown - that's a sidequest.

Sorry getting a bit caught up on something trivial. Anyway! I really like that they're adding all these other different features and expanding the gameplay. I think the Pokethlon is a great addition, I hate sports in real life but I love pokemon sports haha. Obviously some games will be better than others, but that's to be expected.

I never really went to any of the battle frontiers, I'm not much of a battler. Anyway, the more the better I think really, right now there's a really good number of them though.

Ellie August 8th, 2009 11:29 AM

There's never too many sidequests. They're not required to beat the game or anything, so those who don't want to do them don't have to, and those who do want to do them have more fun extras to do. I love the amount that they have now, but I wouldn't mind more being revealed.

the more the better, the longer the better for us and it will keep us more entertained

The more stuff to do, the better.

JP August 8th, 2009 6:10 PM

I can't imagine why they would ever be "bad". The more things to do, the better. I tend to finish the side quests fast and then I'm left not doing much afterwards. So the more, the better...definitely.

Sidequest is the second best if not best to use. The main quest or trek of the game is to collect the badges. The other stuff is more or less side collecting so yeah.

magrathean August 10th, 2009 5:51 AM

I love all these extra things to do. I mean, after the Elite Four, there's got to be something for me to do, even if I'm not very good at it...

I suck at contests and the like, but it's always fun to see myself improve and take part in to take a break from competitive battling. (:

Hmm...I really hate how so many people complain about these things, though. I mean, they are optional, nothing forces you to take part in them. They're just kind of there.

MiniEggs August 10th, 2009 6:18 AM

I love seeing side-quests in the games. But in D/P/Pt, they are only really: contests, legendaries, battle frontier. I would like to see some longer side-quests that make the game more longer to finish.

Live Update King August 10th, 2009 7:44 AM

I would like a one to restore kanto back 3 years so you can access all of kanto but its not required to beat the game but you might want to do it to access the old days

MizuJosh August 10th, 2009 8:12 AM

Just have Dialga take you back in time. :P Just kidding.

There are never too many sidequests. It only gives the game more depth.

Live Update King August 10th, 2009 8:18 AM

That includes the original trainers even the Rocket Takeover in Saffron City

JLP_M August 10th, 2009 8:30 AM

more side quest = more time to spend on the game which will make me get my money's worth

MiniEggs August 10th, 2009 9:25 AM

I bought Ranger from Woolworths (when it was open), for half the price. I'm glad I only payed that. I hate short games. But back on topic, we need more side quests. PokeWalker quests possibly?

thegeneticway August 10th, 2009 9:59 AM

I hope there are a lot.

I enjoy the Battle Fronteir

I really hope they put back the Battle Dome

I really enjoyed that place :)

Camisado August 10th, 2009 10:01 AM

I love side quests. They keep the game going for a while after you've completed the main Gym challenges and Elite 4.

For example, I'm so desperate to carry on playing Platinum that I've even sat down and caught all the Unown. Lots of side quests mean you never have to put the game down. :D

Keyaki August 10th, 2009 10:03 AM

There is no such thing as too many side-quests

MiniEggs August 10th, 2009 10:39 AM

IcyArceusRider August 10th, 2009 5:23 PM

I never spend too much time doing things like planting berries or going to the Battle Frontier or playing Contests or anything like that, because I'm so busy and a little obsessed with getting my favorite pokemon to level 100 (WITHOUT CHEATING) so yeah, I think all the hundred-thousand side quests can be a little much.

But they're also really fun when I get tired of training and need a break. So I certainly do like them. ^^

Mewtwo42 August 10th, 2009 7:06 PM

I think there should be a lot of side quests to make the game more interesting and involving.
