Safe to watch ep 38?

I read about episode 38 im 12 years old do you think it would be safe for me to watch it?
I went to the Seizure moment to see what it is but it was mostly coverd by my hand lol
If you dont know what this is its where red and blue light flash insanely fast and can give Seizures

e4darthteej August 11th, 2009 5:42 PM

Unless you have epilepsy, then you're fine.

Riggzyd August 11th, 2009 5:46 PM

Oh ok i feel weird when im watching it

Like i expect something to happen lol

Bagel August 11th, 2009 5:56 PM

it might. just have people around that can help you.

Thats kinda scary.

Wings Don't Cry August 11th, 2009 7:54 PM

I watched it, I was scared to hell that something might happen but after I saw it, I realized the flashy bit didn't faze me at all.

You must not have read about the incident that led to this episodes ban then. The fact is that out of the 700 Japanese children that got seizures from watching this, less than 8% of them actually had epilepsy.

machomuu August 11th, 2009 8:13 PM

I watched it alone, I came out of it okay, and it was the japanese version, so that's a plus.

sk8r4life1 August 11th, 2009 8:44 PM

They've gotten rid of the original version that caused seizures. Unless you find an origional taped version from the original air date, you'll be fine :D

They removed all the uncut versions from youtube and such..

Inferno1 August 11th, 2009 10:12 PM

Saw it u will be fine my mate said to watch it when ur stoned lol (but i dont get stoned) so lol if anyone dose tell me what it is like

Azumi August 12th, 2009 1:58 AM

Well, I didn't get seizures, so...
Just have your family/friends around you.

Riggzyd August 12th, 2009 2:08 AM

Lol well like i said it feels weird watching it so yeah ill just watch it near my parents
Well im a go off PokeCommunity its like 3:10 AM here and i gotta EV train my pokemon/go to sleep soon

~*!*~Tatsujin Gosuto~*!*~ August 12th, 2009 7:34 AM

I also think those kids had seizures is because their televisions at the time were a lot bigger and had better coloring then ours and they didn't expect that episode to have that so it came to a shock to them

Well, that's because that's the only version.

You could watch it. It's not going to be in a high quality anyway unless you taped it or something.

Jorah August 13th, 2009 5:29 AM

The only version of it that's available is way too low quality to cause seizures, especially if you're watching on something like YouTube where the screen will be tiny. Loads of people have watched it online and they're fine. It's not too surprising that those Japanese children got seizures though, there really wasn't need for that much flashing red and blue lights :/

skeddles August 13th, 2009 7:50 AM

I've seen it, didn't get a seisure, but it did give me a headache.

Akio123 August 13th, 2009 12:07 PM

I watched it and I got a headache after. Watch it in a lit room at night and you'll be fine.

Rich Boy Rob August 14th, 2009 4:13 AM

I've seen it with my friend and the worst thing that happened was my eyes felt a little funny

Charaxes August 15th, 2009 8:29 AM

Well, whenever in doubt, don't do it. You don't want to fool around with issues of health.

Or, ask your doctor, if you want to be completely kosher.

Frozen King Prawns August 15th, 2009 1:22 PM

If you're going to try it, my words of advice.

DON'T TURN THE CHUFFING LIGHTS OFF. :P

I haven't seen it, but the flashing light bit BEFORE the seizure scene hurt my eyes a little, so I think I'd better not myself.

Riggzyd August 16th, 2009 1:43 PM

ahh i just watched it my heads hurting but it wasnt that bad

Super Puppy August 16th, 2009 1:51 PM

I saw it and didn't have any problems. You should be fine.

Yeah, and we all know that little kids get as close to the TV as possible, so that wouldn't help :/

Nyu~♥! August 16th, 2009 2:40 PM

Oh man, I'm attempting to watch it. I'm scared I might faint or something. i don't have elipsy but I have bad eyesight... *_*

...nvm, saw it. Nothing happened. 0_o
I guess it's totally fine, though it was the japanese one.

Jeikobu August 16th, 2009 5:00 PM

1) if you have epilespy, be careful, and 2) don't sit too close to your screen, that apparently was part of why people had seizures.

I've personally seen it many times and never had one problem.

Kirbychuu August 16th, 2009 5:21 PM

Pretty sweet episode imo. The rapid and extended flashing does give me headaches, as well.

Akio123 August 16th, 2009 6:49 PM

See you all didn't get seizures for a couple reasons.
A. If its streaming the quality is going to be sooooo much lower.
B. No one is going to put something online that could give someone a seizure. Well they can, but then its going to be taken down.
C. If you watch something that can give you a seizure, just make sure you are in a brightly lit room. Light pollution can be your friend sometimes.

Unown_ August 17th, 2009 8:55 AM

Funny, because that's basically what the notice says during the start of almost every anime these days. The text in the picture below roughly says: "While watching anime, make sure not to sit too close to the screen and that the room is well lit."

Watching the Porygon episode is heavily reduced because as mentiond by Akio123 above, but I would like to add that it is still not 100% safe.
Watching it wouldn't be a problem, but if you're head starts hurting, or dizzy then stop watching it ASAP.
Not sure if you're up to it? Then don't watch it at all. Grab a summary instead.

As for myself, I didn't end with any headache or so, but it was rather annoying to see the screen flashing like it did during the episode.

*Charizard* August 18th, 2009 10:31 PM

Ive seen it and nothing happened you'll be fine to watch it.
