I see you are very skilled! The tiles are looking great, keep up the working!

GFA October 20th, 2009 2:18 PM

Hmm... after looking at his lab on Bulbapedia, I've detirmened it's pretty spot on. However, thr winndmill in back is... to tall? Also, the shading is ackward, it's to spherical, and it would be better if the propellers were brighter, you'd have more contrast, and it would look more like the anime.

WOW, great job Alucus. Can't download them as I'm not on my PC right now. But I'll be downloading these awesome new tiles ASAP xD Great addition to my GSC remake (which I started before HGSS was announced just never made a thread). Can't wait to see more tiles, the latest I think are your best so far (except the One Island remake which was pretty well made too)

Hey hey Alucus, been a while :) Good to see your still releasing tiles and great to see you haven't lost any of that flare your tiles I remember had, good good.
One small criticism I have is concerning the shadows on the tallest building and the yellow roofed building in your last set.

Taller Building:
Ok, so just pointing out that considering the contours of the building, you wouldn't have the upper of the side shadow parts as the building goes up and not back and so wouldn't need that shadow.

Yellow Roofed House:
Just pointing out the shadow shouldn't go as high up as it does considering where the bottom of the back of the building would be.

Hope this makes sense and that it helps.
It's good to be back

Following on with the hoenn tiles iv decided to make the pokecenter mart and gym. So first off is the center and mart.

Thanks to Dew for sorting out the initial problums that I had with the pokecenter so partial credit goes to him on this one.

Hmm, this wil be a bit of a harsh critique but because you are such a good tile artist I think you could take this as a good thing and really improve these two buildings by a long shot.

Ok first off problems with both... They both look huge and very out of proportion. it looks as if the roofs were injected with steroids leaving the main body of the building shadowed under a behemoth. (mainly the PC.)

Now for solely the PC I really hate the roofs palettes. It is so bright compared to other colors used on the building leaving it almost glowing on the time. Also the proportions of the front to the sides do not quite match in either the semi circular top with the PokeBall insides and the roof under that. Everything but the roof is great.

On to the Mart. The roof is better on this due to a subtler palette and a slightly over proportioned rood compared to the other one. But usually the mart is smaller than the PC so it still looks awkward.

Overall the concept is nice. Sorry if this was to harsh :\

:D I love the way people are describing the roof, Kyle said It looked like a squashed mushroom lol. Anyway thanks for the crit, everything you have said is right, and Even I had a strange feeling about the roof of the PC, you know one of those, something is wrong but I cant quite make out what, sort of feelings. Anyway I have decided to work on a Hoenn tile project so I am planning to redo both of them anyway, taking into advice what people have said. Thanks a lot for the crit, it made me laugh, and the way I see it is that every bit of negative crit helps me make my work better.

Littleroot is now complete. Everything is origional except for the trees they are edits of CNC's

http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs50/f/2009/312/8/b/Littleroot_Town_by_Alucus.png

Luka S.J. November 8th, 2009 8:33 AM

WOW => simply WOW. I'm digging the new look alot. It just kicks everyone that has done Littleroot two in the face. I have to say that this is my favorite out of them all.I just love the new Hoenn trees and worship the fact that it's not the same tree over, and over again, which adds more dynamics to the whole map. The houses look amazing. Lastly the grass tiles and the dirt ones are superb. I think the dirt tiles are very original and haven't been seen before. This is just WOW.

Redemption! (except those trees :\)... Wow I like the "rustic" vibe of this map, yet those trees ruin it a tad due to their IDK... plain-ness?(Is that a word :<). Anyways...

And the trees just may be my opinion with the simplicity and all... I can see Luka has taken a liking in them.

The environment

Very nice, I like your grass, flowers, and path. They blend in very well with the rustic scenery around the place. All I can say is that the trees look very 2D in the sense of spacing. The trunk feels like it bulges out a bit under the tree while the top looks like it is flat as a piece of paper (Yeah I suck at alliterations...XD)

The buildings

Hot damn! That lab is some smex :3. I really love the offset feel of its "stilts" which hold it up and the palette chosen feel like RSE in every way and form. With the regular houses the same applies. The "rustic" vibe makes it feel like your in a small town (like you are :D)

Overall

Overall these tiles are exceptional except for the trees. I mean they are not bad for the usual tile artist but seeing your work I expect a tad bit more. you have become a bit of a staple in this little petite section. And yes when I say petite I do not mean it lightly. Pixel art is not the easiest thing to do with shading and its color limits. But it has come a far way and with people like you helping innovation in just one of the fields you are doing your part for us all.

Thanks man but just a point, the trees arnt actually mine :D Im really quite bad at custom trees, so I found some that I thought looked similar to the hoenn set and edited them to fit in, so the credit for the trees is cnc's

~Teh Panda~ November 9th, 2009 11:49 PM

Ahh, I see then. Well then CNC! Get to work on those trees... XD JK.... :P

If you ask me, the top roof is too long...
Also, the view angle of the Pokeball is weird.
Edit: You'd need something like this:
http://www.shrani.si/f/32/m1/kA5LvO0/pc-hoenn.png
No I'm not any good at spriting.
Also the Pokeball on my version seriously needs fixing.

GFA November 10th, 2009 6:14 AM

Not t be rude, but Turquoise, if yours is the 'new' one, Alucus should keep it the same.

It's greatly improved from your prior Alucus, but the section with the Pokeball juts out a bit, then than that, it looks great! I would actually do what Turqoise told you to do, but keep the Poke Ball the same

Thanks for the advice guys but I actually like it better like this, as it adds that slight bit of HG/SS look to it, with the bokeball sign section on to the overhang, That was my intention.

Tropical Sunlight November 11th, 2009 4:45 AM

Oh. The angle of the Pokeball is still wrong though.
Look:

The part with the pokeball on it sticking out is meant to be bigger. The regular roof curves and couples with it where it juts out.

Alucus_Of_Borg November 17th, 2009 9:35 AM

Update time guys the first one for a while, I have been buisy with tile requests aswell as other stuff so I have had the day off stuff like that to work on the HG/SS tile set, so here is a work in progress of the cave tiles. I found these a massive chalange as I strugle a bit with caves and mountains, so I am really happy with how they turned out, I still have a load more to do though, and I want to do some updated FR/LG cave detail tiles aswell, so keep an eye on this one cus it will keep changing.

I can't beleive this thread has gotten so far back in the pages. The tiles are amazing! I really like the littleroot town one and that cave is excellent too. Keep up the good work!

FilbertTheFox December 5th, 2009 8:35 AM

Omg, this is pure dedication ;)

Myamo December 10th, 2009 11:42 AM

About your cave tiles.
The sidewall tiles. Those thick black lines they have. They look a bit misplaced. You should make them thinner like you did with the front wall.

One question about those rock tiles you used for your Knot Island map. Is there a cave entrance tile for these? I would really love to use them, but I am missing those cave entrance tiles.

Blazier December 11th, 2009 5:13 AM

you've got so many sprites you could make a game

Those ruins tiles are amazing! I like the colours and the shades of them you chose. Those statues represent... Rhydon, am I right? I have a question, though: What's the purpose of the top most tiles? I mean the thin wall-like things.

those are half-pipes, totally half-pipes

but i do like your tilesets for the ruins and all of them in general. one of my favorites is probably the cave

sab January 16th, 2010 7:13 AM

they all look great! I like the cave set best, but why does the shadow of the ladder only have one bar while the ladder has three?

Birdybot January 19th, 2010 7:16 PM

Wow, these are awesome! I'll probably use them! Everything blends in well, and it's so pretty. I like the light from the entrance to the cave :)

Cus its a faded shadow, it only shows part of the tile. It would take up to much space if it were a full tile shadow.
