Is Game Freak spoiling too much about these games?
Would you say that Game Freak is spoiling too much about these games?
Game Freak has given out a lot of information about these games over the past few months, and some of it has been really surprising stuff, like... Spoiler:
By the way, I didn't make this topic just to complain about spoilers. I want to know what you think. Do you like the fact that Game Freak has released so many spoilers, or would you have preferred it if they'd remained more tight-lipped? |
Weather trio - obvious cause those games are meant to replace GBA slot when you try to catch all Pokemons.
Eusine - just something to make the story longer. We don't know how they'll use it so who cares. It only raises the excitement. And if you see it as a whole Johto remake, it doesn't spoil anything. Storyline - they didn't tell us anything important, just things to raise the excitement. Give more details if you want me to answer properly. Safari - by the time we got to 4th gen and a 256MB cartridge, with at least a half new generation to be caught in those remakes, it was pretty obvious we'll get those. Honestly, the only reason we didn't get this in the originals was because they were in a rush and only had 16MB, and you could actually see leftovers of what they started making in Map editors/codes. Let it slide, please. Battle Frontier - same as the above, unless for the fact that the only reason we didn't get it in RBGY and GS (it was in Crystal) was because they didn't think about it/they couldn't make it yet back then. Again, if you see it as a remake of the whole Johto adventure, that's not new because it was in Crystal. Anything else? Honestly, everything you said (and probably anything else you can think about) has a reason and makes sense (well unless for the Pokewalker, which no one was excited about if they didn't give more details), doesn't spoil us anything and raises the excitement, so IMHO I can't see what's wrong. Especially when many people are definitely allowed to think we're talking about the best Poke games so far. |
GameFreak has revealed a lot of information on HeartGold and SoulSilver since the day of its confirmation. However, when you think about it, if you are a business wanting to get your audience's attention to purchase your product, then you would reveal as much as you can so you know people will be attracted to it. These games have been wanted for many years by many people since the remake of RBGY came out in 2004, so both Nintendo and GameFreak knew how much sales they would receieve just by letting their fans know a remake was going to be released. Advertising as much details about it afterwards would only want the gamers wanting it even more [like what is happening now].
So, I wouldn't say from a sellers point of view that the information being released is too much, and as from a fan's point of view I wouldn't think it of being enough either. Before you purchase a game, you would want to know as much as you can about it. This is so you'll know what you're going to get into as well as if it'll be worth your expense. Now, what they have revealed in some are quite surprising, such as the Hoenn Ancients being included as well as many more like you've stated, but to tell you the truth it is these little peices that want me to purchase the game even more. I would expect more information to be revieled as well from anywhere between now and until the US and UK release. So, again, if you think about it at a different perspective, I wouldn't consider this an overload of spoilers, as I'm sure there will be many more little surprises inbetween. |
I think the only things that should be revealed are the new features that have never been in any pokemon game before (i.e. the Pokewalker, apricorns, Pokethlon). We've seen legendary battles in the "There they are! Go catch 'em!" format before. Those should be surprises.

Apricorns were actually introduced in the original Gold, Silver, and Crystal before. So, news on this being brought back again, wasn't exactly new or surprising, but more or less assuring that a key feature from the originals would be brought back. A lot of people wanted information on this, and when it had finally been distributed to the fans, then it gave them one more known fact about what came back. However, new features are something that are known to be released onto scans and trailers. This is another factor that catches people's attention so they'll be interested enough to try it out once they purchase the games themselves. |
I don't see why they shouldn't spoil too much. HG/SS is roughly a month away, and you know how serebii tends to show you everything in the game.
Anyways, spoiling is the best way to keep the audience entertained and excited about the game. |
I don't really care. This isn't like a final fantasy game where even minor details of the story are pivotal to the game.
It's a pokemon game, where the point is to travel, catch pokemans, and be the very best that perhaps no one ever was. To be honest all the revealed information just makes me more excited for the game. |
This has always been the advertising strategy used for Pokemon games. As people mentioned above, this is a remake so a lot of the basic details are already known by those that played the originals. By announcing some of the new details, they can get people excited to play these games with a mix of nostalgia and new features.

the inclusion of Groudon, Kyogre and Rayquaza: This is going to lure people into buying the game. Imagine not having to use your old GBA games to catch these awesome Pokemon anymore!
the appearance of Eusine: They just needed to let people know that new elements from Pokemon Crystal are going to be implemented into Hg/Ss the storyline alterations: People need to know that Hg/Ss are going to be slightly different, and they also want to know how. the Johto Safari Zone: This is an exciting new feature in the games that everyone should know about. It's a major thing, and people should be informed about it. the Battle Frontier: This is also something to lure people into buying the games. The Battle Frontier is not exactly uniform throughout Pokemon RPG releases, so when it's implemented into one of them, people need to know about it. |

Anyways, ontopic, I forgot to add: after the scarily faithful-to-originals FRLG (unless for the 2.5 more Maps for a few Johto Pokemons named Sevii), the massive amount of updates about new features is like Gamefreak telling us: "it won't happen again. Don't you guys worry." |
None of that information is really very important. Rayquaza, Kyogre, Groudon, Battle Frontier, Safari Zone, Eusine? We've seen all of these before. We'll know everything as soon as the game comes out in Japan anyway.
|
I don't think it's spoiling if they're going to lure alot of customers into buying their product.By showing some of new details, they're exciting the people that are going to buy their games. They also let people see the new features that will be implemented in the new games, and the old features being very much improved.
|
meh doesnt make a difference all the games are pretty much the same except for the pokemon
|
To me, they want you to get psyched about the game and go buy it. You know, marketing gimmick.
|
Sorry about this, but what is Eusine?
|
If you think about it too, if we didn't get to know much about the game like we are now, then some may feel a bit of denial to purchase the remakes as they would fear it being a reimage of FRLG. Neverthless, the game was always wanted so it would have made its deal of sales, but maybe not as much as it could have without the advertisement. Like some have mentioned as well, most Pokémon RPG's basically run through a similar plot, so it wouldn't be revealing in where it'll spoil the game to a large degree compared to other games on the market.

The surprise was so strong when we played Gold and Silver the first time, with the inclusion of Kanto that no one had saw coming, there were no online forums like this that you could go to, it was a surprise.
Now all Pokemon games never really have surprises you kinda figure it out with all these scans and videos. |
In hindsight, I wish I'd not found out all this information until I got the game. I like to be surprised when I play a game rather than know what's going to happen, otherwise it's like reading a synopsis of a film before you go to see.

So, there is a deal between the two as well as difference. Releasing the news on it returning however was to show the improvements of the game since the original Crystal. Like said before it was also a way to attract the players, more so those who fancy the Battle Frontier so they'll know they have a new challenge waiting ahead. It extended the idea of the Battle Tower for players to compete against, and because of its popularity, having it known to make an entrance for the Johto would give fans the hype to purchase the game even more. |

Nah, I really don't think it's spoiling too much. To me, the more fun parts of the game will be being able to play again, of course, and all the subtle little changes from the original, which Gamefreak would never bother to spoil. Plus a lot of the stuff was somewhat expected, like Eusine, Battle Frontier, and several other "spoilers" that weren't mentioned here, like Apricorns.
|
I dont think the stuff that you list is really considered "spoiling" its just showing the basics of the game
:t354:TG |
The more things they spoil about this game, the more people will want to buy it. It's a pretty good strategy. But still, there are some people that don't go on forums and sites like Serebii, so they won't know about any of this until the release of the game. Some people probably didn't even know about HG/SS until it was announced on the official site.
