Hey there kids, I'm Curt and I'm here to take you on a wondrous adventure through the Reole region. The thread closed down due to activity, and the original team just kind of drifted away--but I'm back at hard work, striving to get this hack going. I completely restarted the hack, using JPAN's hacked engine and reinserting most of the tiles from the old one. Feel free to respond with opinions and ideas even if it's to tell me I suck.

Why am I playing this again?

Region info:
Enter the region of Reole, a new landmass full of wonder and mystery for you to explore. A very peaceful region, Reole has yet to have any catastrophic events or worldwide-news-making spectacles. The reason for this peace, although no one knows it, is a secret peacekeeping organization known as the Ghost Agency. Ghost is not known to anyone at all, and this allows them to do the jobs the normal police couldn't, such as having agents working under deep cover. Ghost is stationed in Atio City, a bustling tourist hotspot due to the nearby Aero Lake.

Story info
You start as a student in the Atio Pokemon School. After handing the headmaster's son (your rival) a bitter defeat in a school tournament, he challenges you to a rematch. No students own any Pokemon, instead the school has a storeroom full of Pokemon specially trained for the students to battle with. To have this rematch, you and your rival break into the school to get some Pokemon. Suddenly your rival deserts you just as the headmaster enters and catches you in the act. It seems suspicious how your rival knew just when to leave you high and dry...
A week later you recieve an unmarked letter at your house. You open it up to find an invitation to come join some kind of
Pokemon club called Ghost...

Yes, there will be no gyms. I quite like that idea in a hack. Love it, actually.
Progress? I've just been scripting when I can, touching up the maps a little, fixed up the first route how I want it, and continuation requires a lot more indoor mapping right now.
I'll get screenies tonight if I have time to make a lot of progress.

What the heck? Only 8 post? c'mon people, this hack is pretty awesome. The names everything are pretty good, the maps are good, the story is interesting and well organized, and the features seem like something to look forward to. Good luck...In fact, I'll beta test for you if you'd like.

Update: Dang, this thing seems to take up permanent residence on the second page. No matter what, that's always where it is.
Progress is being made people, at however slow increments. I have other things going on...

This hack looks pretty good, the fakemon look ok but if I were you i would give them better names. Is the whole hack just going to be fakemon though, or will there only be a few.

What's wrong with the names? I slaved over those... Well, the Briobulb line anyway.

@Teapot - I actually have 53 planned fakemon, I just haven't gotten around to making "art" of them all yet. I was actually planning to finish some more soon, but I tore my hand up in the batting cage today...

Finally, an update!
No progress beyond whatever RSC has mapped in the past few days (which is actually quite a bit), but he made a video of everything scripted so far.
Please ignore the tile errors at the the bottom of the beginning room, and the block errors with the blue door and the flowers.

the maps look prety good, but in
the top ones there isn't shading from the
boxes like there is from the walls.

bottom left the tree on the right of the
squares top part looks a little funny

but outside of that looks good.

Okay, so I've been doing a bit of rearranging inside of the Ghost base (I also fixed those shadows, siper).
But, more importantly, I think I know the direction I want to go in terms of the hero's look (the heroine will follow suit).
It's not final yet, I'll most likely change the hair color as well as do some tweaking.

Okay, cool. Sorry I've left you cold for so long. I'm going to try to work on the plot and scripting for the Ghost base tonight and tomorrow, hopefully I'll get it done (after Calc, Govt, Chem, bleh). Then I can send it back over to you for whatever you wanna do. Maybe the routes north and west of Atio?

Sorry if i am mistaken But wasn't that Rom Base was made by Synyster_Ziekku aka. Synyster_Lili? You have to credit him for that and if you inserted the tiles by your self then you don't need to credit him. xD

I'm too lazy to research whether Synyster_Ziekku made a similar ROM-base, but I can tell you that you are mistaken as far as my ROM-base. These are all Alistair (maybe Reck too, I can't remember) tiles inserted by me.
Trust me, I'm not some noob who just takes stuff from everywhere, conglomerates it in a heap of crap, and calls it a ROM hack.

Either way, I still have to come up with a good titlescreen idea...
Scratch that, spriter's resource is back up. Can you recolor the forest area image to something more sinister? Ghostly, dark, purple/indigo-ish... You know the effect. We'll then use that as a background on the titlescreen.

Well, they haven't exactly been going lately. My computer has been in the shop, although before that the end of semester got kind of crazy, and the hack got pushed back. I think it's about time to breathe new life into this thing though.

Dat look awesome! I have some fakemon sprites you can use. I can also beta test. Whatever, but I want to help with this obviously successful hack. Or, if I can't help you, can you help me with my hack? I'm doing the mapping, but I need a fakemon importer, someone to work on the title screen, text changer, a person to change my hero sprite, and a banner maker. That's about it. I'm doing good with mapping, but I simply can't sprite! So, do I help you, do you help me, or both?

General Progress

I completely restarted from scratch, redoing the ROM base.
I've already finished four outdoor maps, the amount necessary for an Alpha. I've got to do a lot of indoor mapping now, and as usual I will be waiting on fakemon sprites. I will script and carry on as usual, possibly going even further than my current plans for the first release. We'll see.

Event info
There appears to be some kind of disturbance in Atio Woods. The Bug Catchers are riled up and the old caretaker isn't letting anyone enter. What could possibly be going on in there?

That's all for now, as always I'm looking for feedback. I've updated the first post, so you should go back and look at that as well.

Hmmm... I'm happy to see the hack back up, I was watching it and was disappointed when it was closed. Now, I really like the screenshots, but I'm not a huge fan of the grass starter. Anyways, good luck

General Progress
The past few days have been busy for me, so I haven't done much. I re-did some of the indoor tiles, scripted a few NPCs and signposts, and did some planning. Not much to show but some screenshots.

What exactly is it about the grass starter that you don't like? The colors, the positioning of the vines, the whole design? Or maybe it's one of those things that just doesn't feel right, no matter how you look at it.

I'm sorry to say that I cannot show you the sprites for the starters--they haven't been done yet. The old starter sprites are on that banner in my siggy. Alternatively, here are my drawings of the starters.

General Progress
Not much to show on my part except a grass tile and palette change, some NPC scripts, and new banners. I'm not going to bother with the NPCs, as it would just be a waste of space. The banners are up in the first post, along with a new userbar.

Yes, they are rather cute. Pokemon don't need to look like they're going to tear your face off to be good, and I prefer my Pokemon to look like, well, Pokemon. :P

Well, this is looking great.
But I have a few suggestions for your sprites:

Zefloret: Sprite and idea are both excellent. But for the petals, I suggest putting a little more contrast between the two Outline Colors, it will make it look better. As for the vines, add the darker green in places where needed; having the same outline color for the whole vine is somewhat disturbing.

Delwat: Pretty good. But I would suggest putting a different color for the Lightning Bolt on its head.

Elezma: Also well done. Same suggestion as Delwat. But I think that you should make the palette a little different from Delwat's. I know that they aren't the same, but they are very similar. And it would be more appealing if the colors changed a little. Sort of like Pikachu to Raichu. Also, I dislike the fact that there isn't much of an anatomy change from Delwat to Elezma.

Thanks! Are you talking about the designs or the sprites? I only designed them and made the original artwork. Others made the sprites.

I know what you mean about the Zefloret vines. I had a hard time with the outlines there, since I only get 15 colors and he has so many different ones. I'd have liked to use more colors on the outlines, but really couldn't.
There is a difference in colors between Delwat and Elezma, even though it's very slight. Different poses might have served better, but I'm not going to complain since I didn't have to sprite them.

ATTENTION
I'm not sure if people think that I've been making sprites, but I haven't. Bantroid made a Zefloret sprite, which I recolored. PokemonSkySD made Delwat and Elezma. I only created the concepts.

Why thank you Wesley. I know the tiles aren't as awesome as Light Platinum's, but I think they are well suited for this hack. The colors don't stray too far off the beaten path, and the trees and grass can still fit in with traditional FR tiles.

General Progress
NPC scripts, NPC scripts, NPC scripts... Blah, I'm tired of these people and their insignificant lives! Actually, I find it quite interesting to create a new world filled with interesting people, who have lives of their own. I realized a few things about having all scripts cleared from a game that were slightly annoying: elevators and vending machines. Being lazy, I just copied them from the original FireRed and changed all of the pointers.
I've been doing a lot of work elsewhere in the hack as I strive to make everything fresh and new to the players. For instance, I'm changing all of the TMs. What am I changing them to? Attacks that I think are actually useful to the player. No more Bulk Up or Reflect. They also appear in the game in roughly the order they are numbered. TMs 1-6 will be the first available, and you'll probably be getting ahold of TM 50 near the end of the main storyline. Do you like? The first six will be purchasable on the fourth floor of the department store after you complete your first mission. Want a preview? No screenies, but TM 01 is Lick. :P

I decided to try and do the outline in a more Nintendo-ish style to match the other sprites that have been made, as well as recoloring with colors from other Pokemon sprites. How did I do?

i dont mind fake-mon but they need to be legit looking. the yellow things needs minor smoothing, but idk for the other two... if you can actually pull off the whole new pokemon thing, then it would be awesome. ill check back later!

also: the names.

Fizriket sounds odd and hard to look at. how about Fritzket? minor change, i know, but it's just that the double "i" in there hurt my brain. and fritz sounds more fire-like...
The other two names are odd to me, and Amphijab sounds like Ampharos wannabe, but i suppose im just fakemon negative ;) i hope i hurt no one's feelings heheh...

I'm curious as to how they're not legit-looking? I think that the Delwat line fits in very well with the game, as well as Flarewig. I've been working on making Zefloret fit in better, and Fizriket looks just fine to me. At the start of every generation after the second, the Pokemon didn't look "legit" to me at first, but as time wore on I got used to them and accepted them.
As far as names go, I've grown kind of fond of them over time. I don't know that I could change them. Fritzket sounds like something that's... on the fritz. :P Fizriket combines "fizzle" with "cricket" to make a name I'm comfortable with. Amphijab consists of "amphibian" and "jab." I'll let you guess its type from that.
Don't worry, I highly doubt anyone could or would come into the thread and hurt my feelings. I know a lot of people are skeptical of fakemon, but trust me when I say these will be done right.

Well, seeing as how I don't know exactly how much I've got to do, I honestly can't give exact percentages. I could guesstimate, but I don't really like to. Just follow the updates. I'll post about how close we are to a release.

Oh yes, plenty. There will be around 200-250 Pokemon in the main part of the game, and only around 60 or so will be Fakemon.

General Progress
Level scripts, tile scripts, NPC scripts, Mart scripts, you name 'em, I've done 'em. Of course, it takes a lot of scripts to make a game, and I'm nowhere near releasing anything yet.
I made a new banner for the first post.

Features
So, I may or may not have forgotten to mention a few features last update. The most important of these is RUNNING INDOORS! That's right folks, thanks to HackMew's Knowledge, I have successfully made it possible to run everywhere, indoors or out. You'll also start out with the Running Shoes--well, actually there is one tiny part where you can only walk. Umm, what was the other now? More new indoor tiles, I guess, if you'll look up a few posts at that screenshot. You also start the game off with a battle, and then *dun dun dun* a takepokemon script, made possible by JPAN's hacked engine.
Fakemon
I finally got around to recoloring 5qwerty's Briobulb sprite, as well as tweaking the vines a little to my liking. While I was at it, I also recolored Fizriket to match the colors of Flarewig. Man, that last update was a long time ago... Tadroli was completed a week or two ago (time flies, I can't rightly remember) by PokemonSkySD. So now, the starter trio is complete. Unfortunately, only Briobulb has a backsprite.

This game is looking pretty good, i like the idea of only having 60 or so fakemon, it makes the game feel more realistic. As long as those 200-250 include the most common favorites, this game has potential. Just remember not to give the player too much power (the game still needs to be a challenge)

Hmm, I've never been wished lock before... :P
I'm probably not going to go around contacting people when there's a release, just keep an eye on the thread and be sure to give feedback on the updates

I will do!!!! Hehe. But aren't you going to have any gyms? Why don't have it as a pokemon school where you collect bagdes but the pokemons aren't in a high level or something like that;)
