It's been too long.

I'm surprised this is still here, not because of our own resiliency but with how the internet works. Crashes, server moves, abandonment. But here we are.

It says my last post was over 10 years ago. June 9th, 2009 7:23 PM

Where does the time go?

How things change.

In that time frame, I'm not sure if much has changed for me. I rose up and came crashing down, yet to recover. But all the while I still remained a Pokemon fan, and kept moving forward. Things got in the way, and my mind would go elsewhere. But with each new generation I would still get some new shiny Pokemon. The popularity of my YouTube channel has died in favor of people who are able to stream live. I've tried multiple times to revive it but to no avail. But that didn't stop me from uploading videos as a diary of sorts, so I kept moving forward.

I'll have to remake my list. Somewhere along the way I stopped caring and stopped updating it. Life will do that to you.

But here we are. Bookmarked again. I'll be back with a proper update with all the new additions. Right now I have moved on from UltraSun into Pokemon Shield, but I'm not dropping UltraSun entirely because of the hand we were dealt with SwSh. I was hatching Dhelmise with Masuda Method there, but I had already hatched over 900 with no shinies. My luck has been absolutely gobsmacked lately. Right now in Pokemon Sword I'm making Dracovish using a turbo controller and SRing when I have no shiny. I haven't kept track but it feels like I've done at least 2,000 or more already. Maybe soon. Because I want to start hatching eggs soon and combating wild ones, and maybe even do a little fishing.

Hope all is well.

Hahaha I finally got it!!!! After years upon years upon years of scouring the Mélancolie Path every fall, I finally found my shiny pumpkin!! It was a blazing bright purple, so I have no idea how I'd missed it all this time, haha. You'd think it'd really be sticking out in the pumpkin patch, being all purple and all!! :laugh-squinted:

Callie Baza shone on encounter #7682 of this Phase of my Pumpkaboo hunt (I got a shiny Klefki last year!), although it was only encounter #5610 since I started up again in early October for 2019. I found her at 10:02 PM HST tonight, November 8th, and caught her on the second Dusk Ball attempt (a shiny Ghost like Pumpkaboo just has to go in a Dusk Ball, "lol!" And I caught her at night, too, so it was super perfect!!!

Pumpkaboo is a really awesome shiny!!! Really ominous and spooky - exactly as a Ghost shiny should be!!! The colors really screamed out the second they jumped on to the screen, haha. I have another shiny Ghost!! :boogie:

Oh, and I can finally take pictures again!! This is my first shiny in like years that I can actually prove, haha. If anyone wants to see pictures of any of my other shinies, just let me know and I can post some! :pink_boogie:

Spoiler:
A shiny Pumpkaboo appeared!!!

https://i.imgur.com/jJxkgyX.jpg

In that first picture, it seems to be distorting the very fabric of reality around it, "lol." A genuine Ghost indeed!

https://i.imgur.com/BhuHlPo.jpg

Armed with baby Chespin in 5 of my 6 Pokéballs, it was incumbent upon my brave Talonflame to rise to the challenge and take on this most phantasmagorical creature of night. My brave Talonflame lifted its wings to enter battle, but little did he know that the shiny Pumpkaboo was Brave itself!! :freaked-out:

https://i.imgur.com/C4XV6ti.jpg

It's ominous and spooky, but I've got to try to catch it!! I hope I brought enough Dusk Balls with me... :thonkeng:

https://i.imgur.com/b091COj.jpg

Success!! Finally, the Brave Pumpkaboo is mine!

https://i.imgur.com/Nj4s4XP.jpg

Pumpkaboo come in all sorts of sizes, so I'm really super happy that I got a big one!!! Some of those Pumpkaboo I saw over the course of my thousands of encounters were ridiculously tiny, "lol." This one is nice and big and scary!! It makes the shiny all that much better, haha!

I also have a really cool Pumpkaboo-like theme at PC now, since I temporarily switched to Infernal Smash while Quilava's Glaciation is still down. I had been using The Johto Elite for the last few months, but I'm trying out this new one, and I noticed it kind of has Pumpkaboo colors while I was writing this post, "lol!" Appropriate for a Ghost hunter?

(Now before you all scream out and decry my heretical blasphemy, don't worry!!! I'll switch to Quilava's Glaciation as soon as it comes back!!! )

I had been hatching for a shiny Chespin on X when October rolled around and it came time to hunt for Pumpkaboo, so I had five level 1 Chespin in my party when I caught Callie Baza. I forgot that you get experience for catching Pokémon in GenVI, so all five of those Chespin leveled up like 5 times each after I caught my shiny, "lol!" :laugh-squinted:

Good luck - you can do it!!! It's high time for catching shiny Ghosts!!

OMG welcome back, Velveteenwolf!!!!! We missed you!!!

Way to come back with a thunderous roar, haha. Four shinies in one day!?? Way to go!! Let's hope that's an omen portending magnificent shiny successes to come! :happy2:

Thanks, I hope so too! Pumpkaboo is an awesome shiny great color. I caught a female so I called her Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas. Want to call a male Gourgeist Jack when I get one.

Updates! Since my last post (which was my first in the club) I hatched shiny froakie (Nickname Shinobi, 579 eggs)and golett (nickname Phantomaton, 204 eggs)
doing Masuda+ shiny charm in Ultra Moon. I also started a holiday hunt last weekend and today after 372 eggs I got the first one, a shiny Cryogonal named Subzero!

G-Money December 14th, 2019 12:25 AM

Hey SHC!! For the first time ever, PokéCommunity is having a massive competition between all the clubs! We're all duking it out for supremacy in PC's Clubs forum - and obviously, we're going to win!!! :laugh-squinted: We're the greatest club in the history of anything ever, so go out there and make your voices heard!

We're currently tied for first place, so if you (yes, I'm talking to YOU in particular! You reading this post! :pink_tongue:) vote, that'll put us in the lead!! So make sure you go vote for *PC's Greatest Club* (and don't take my word for it - that's a direct quote from a literal FOUNDER, haha!)!

There's even a prize for winning - a gift card will be given to the three winning clubs! So there's an actual monetary reward for the most awesome club on PC, which is really cool and super nice by the Club forum staff to do. Thank you, VisionofMilotic and Fairy!

The obvious thing to do would be to have the most intense and crazy shiny hunt ever in the month of January to determine who'll get the gift card when we win, but I'm not so sure that I want to literally commercialize shiny hunting, hahahahaha! Creating an actual monetary incentive for having the most shinies would give people a reason to cheat or lie for the first time in like 10 years, so it could cause problems that we haven't had to deal with in a really, really long time, haha. Maybe we could do an artwork or recruitment (to see who can bring in the most new members!) contest, or something like that. If any of you guys have any cool ideas, absolutely let me know and post here in the thread! Or if you guys are really interested in having money down on a shiny hunt (just this once! :silly:), we could go for that too. It's your call! I'm obviously exempt from winning as the owner, haha. So everyone, post and give your feedback on how we should split up our "Best Club Evah!!!" reward!!

And the winning club gets a plaque to commemorate their OUR greatness!!

VOTE HERE!!!!

----------------------------------------------------------------

As for my hunts, I've been getting super into the Pearl swarms!!! OMG this is such a fun way to hunt!!! :pink_boogie: Man, I had no idea this would be so much fun. Each day there's a new super-rare Pokémon that suddenly appears on one route in Sinnoh, and I've found that they're pretty much all incredibly amazing shinies that I'd love to have!! I kind of hunted Skitty that one day in September on a whim and got super lucky with getting a shiny Purugly, but now I'm totally on board with this as a spectacularly fun shiny hunting method, haha! The more I do this, the more I realize just how cool the swarm Pokémon are - they're pretty much all Pokémon from other games that are only like 5% on one route in their region, but the Sinnoh swarms give you a chance to hunt them at like 50%! I don't have that many Sinnoh route shinies either, so it gives me a chance to get a bunch of those too without much risk of finding duplicate shinies! Out of the 20 or so swarm Pokémon that I've had the chance to hunt over the past month or so, I only skipped out on like 2 or 3; most of them would be AMAZING to have as shinies! And GenIV has by far the best graphics of any of the games, so it gives me a great chance to explore SInnoh and really just get immersed in what might be my favorite region. I've been doing 200 or so encounters each day for whatever the swarm is lately, and I can't recommend this hunting method enough! It really mixes things up, too, so you never know which hunt is going to produce your next shiny! It's a fun mystery and adds even more surprise to what your next shiny is going to be, "lol!"

I'm up to 4700 Pearl swarm encounters so far. I've also been hunting in Pinwheel Forest in Black, but I'm trying a new hunting method there, too - I'm just biking back and forth on the non-grass part and waiting for the shaking grass! I think it would be super cool to get a shiny elemental monkey (they each seem to be about 10% in the shaking grass, haha!), and it would be cool to get a shiny by hunting in the rare grass, haha. Pinwheel Forest seems like the best place to do this, too - in addition to three rare Pokémon hiding out, the forest has a section that's a straight shot of all non-grass tiles, with only 2 tiles of grass going in each direction along that corridor. So I don't need any Repels and don't really have to worry about running through non-shaking grass to get to the shaker I want! And on the uncommon occasion where I do get an encounter in the first non-shaking patch of grass, I have a chance for a different kind of cool shiny like Venipede or Cottonee, so it's all good! :boogie:

I previously hunted the 5% Ekans and that one took 483 Ekans hordes and 12 phases.

Sweet, congrats!! After my Sableye hunt earlier this year, I have a newfound appreciation for going through multiple phases to get your coveted shiny, haha. Way to go on getting that Arbok!! :pink_boogie:

From what I understand, in Sword and Shield, battling a Pokémon gradually increases your chance of finding a Shiny of that species over the course of the game (it doesn't have to be chained). However, I'm hoping this only applies to overworld Pokémon. Does anyone know if rustling grass Pokémon are exempt from this boost?

EDIT: Chanced upon a Shiny Wishiwashi!

https://i.imgur.com/gdjUYrl.jpg

EDIT 2: Based on what I'm seeing on Serebii, I'm under the impression that the Shiny boost doesn't kick in until you've defeated/caught at least 50 of that species. I hope this is the case.

EDIT 3: Got the Shiny Snom! Now she's a beautiful green-tinted Frosmoth. <3

https://i.imgur.com/pOsiIXO.jpg

While I feel that Frosmoth was more likely based on the Indian Moon Moth, I named her Belle in reference to my favorite geometer moth: the Pale Beauty. (Belle means beauty and rhymes with pale.)

Enormous congratulations are in order, icycatelf - you're the first person to get an SHC shiny in the eighth generation!!!!!!! Way to go, dude!! :boogie: :pink_boogie:

I'm super hyped for the new games - they look amazing, and I can't even imagine what it's like to play Pokémon on a high-powered console, haha. I'm hoping to join in on the Sword and Shield action by the end of the month!

I don't know anything about the shiny you caught, so I can't say whether it's a cool Pokémon or not, but it looks spectacular! And leave it to icycatelf to get a moth shiny, haha. Of all the possible Pokémon to get in GenVIII, of course you had to go and get the moth one!! :laugh-squinted: "lol!"

Welcome to the Shiny Hunters Club, the Alolan naturalist!!! What a fantastic opening set of posts, haha. It looks like you're on a radiant path already - the SHC has brought you opening day luck!! Huge congrats on your successes with Froakie, Golett, and Cryogonal, but especially huge congrats on the shiny Tepig!! Getting a shiny on your first day in the SHC is a sign of great things to come, and it means you're a terrifically perfect person who's absolutely above reproach and should have people build statues of him because he's so cool and wonderful and perfect...

Yeah, I found a shiny Staravia on my first day in the club! So you're like me in that sense, "lol!" Secret high-five for joining the "first day SHC shiny" club-within-the-club!!! It's like Ash seeing a (shiny?) Ho-oh on his first day as a Pokémon trainer! :pink_laugh:

Also, you have a bunch of amazingly fantastic nicknames for your shinies that really impressed me and made me go, "Man, what a cool nickname idea for that shiny!", and you also have a few that are total duds, haha. I think I named my shiny Electrode "Blue" too, "lol!" :laugh-squinted:

OMG DDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111!!111!1!!!!!

I'm so glad you're back!!! :pink_boogie: I'm really glad to see one of the greatest hunters of all time return (you're #5 on the super-secret hidden and total-black-box-of-an-algorithm ranking of all SHC members)!!

I wouldn't worry about whether people are watching your Youtube videos - what matters is that you have fun hunting! If you enjoy the hunt and sharing the tales of your grand successes, that's all that counts! But either way, feel free to post your vids here and we'll give you a few more views. :pink_wink:

I'm looking forward to seeing what kinds of shinies you've amassed over the last decade or so, haha. Good luck on that Dhelmise hunt and your Sword one!!

Yeah, I really love shiny Pumpkaboo's colors, too! That's a cool nickname idea - definitely go for it!! Hunting a shiny because you've thought up a killer name for one is, like, quite possibly the greatest of all reasons to go for a shiny hunt, haha! And this is the perfect time to do it, too; imagine getting a Halloween shiny right around Christmas that you were hunting to give a Nightmare Before Christmas nickname to!!

Thanks for inviting me to this group.

I started to breed shiny pokemon after coming across a post about GEN 7 swap breeding exploit in July this year. I haven't stopped since...
List of shiny Pokemon that I have bred/caught with dates and method : - BREEDING: accidental shiny, SWAP: swap breeding combined with Masuda method, SHINY DITTO: breeding with shiny ditto in pokemon crystal.

NOTE: I have listed final evolutions of the shinies i bred/caught.
I am currently SRing for shiny ho-oh in Pokemon crystal and SOS chaining (with synchronize) shiny houndoom in pokemon US to pass the time while SRing in Crystal.

So like, hi

G-Money has to have concocted the most awkward way possible to contact me--creating a Github account, creating a blank repo, then highlighting me in an issue. (Please don't do this unless it's an emergency!!) Anyway, I'm kind of shocked this place still exists! Seeing as my sig said my latest shiny was Gigalith, it must've been something like 10 years since I visited this place last.

I have kept up with Pokémon, more or less. I found a shiny Psyduck on X and bred a shiny Shroomish and Honedge there. I also found shiny Yungoos, Ditto, and Poliwag on Sun. I kind of dabbled with catch combos on LGP and got a shiny Clefairy (x2), Drowzee, Staryu (x3), and Chansey. I have a very "usual" set of PoGo shinies if those even count. They're a bit long to list but I can if you're interested.

Current hunts:
Giratina on Platinum
Druddigon on Black 2

Not that I have that much time to hunt these days but those are my areas of interest. I want to finish Shield before I spoil all the Galar shinies and decide which ones I like.

the Alolan naturalist December 21st, 2019 5:37 PM

I've been hunting a holiday Bruxish in Ultra Moon for a week now with no success but today using a borrowed 2DS I did some SOS chaining in Sun and got my first two shinies using this method! A Lillipup (60 ish calls) and, once I realised how fun it was, I hunted another holiday shiny (after my Crygonal and Chespin). I got delibird! I didn't think I loved him but a short hunt (120 SOS calls) turned me around. I can't believe Bruxish, a controversial, much-maligned pokemon is playing harder to get than Froakie, roggenrola, honedge and tepig, whose evolved forms are some of the most sought-after shinies LMAO!

G-Money December 21st, 2019 10:15 PM

So I'm still playing the game in Pearl where once a Pokémon faints, it's dead and can't be used ever again...but every time I get a shiny, I get to bring one back! I accidentally went the wrong way when looking for one of the routes for the daily swarm one day, and I ended up pretty close to Victory Road. I figured that while I was there, I might as well take on the Elite Four and get some money to buy some new Balls.

It was a disaster. One of the early Elite Four members took out my trusty Noctowl, who'd been a valued member of my team for months. Then Cynthia proceeded to wreck most of the rest of my team, including my starter Infernape, who must've fainted and been resuscitated through an arduous shiny hunt like 5 times by now, haha. I was down to my two favorite Pokémon on my team - Finn the stellar Lumineon and my shiny Misdreavus. Both were down to red health, and Misdreavus clearly couldn't take another hit (or faint Cynthia's last Pokémon). I had to choose between them, which was brutal; Misdreavus had been the star of the squad and is probably the coolest-looking shiny that I own, and Finn was the most fun Pokémon I've ever had on an in-game team and had carried my team time and time again over the past year's worth of adventures. I was in a real bind, and I reluctantly made the tough decision.

I switched out the golden Ghost and brought Finn in to take the hit.

I just couldn't lose my shiny Misdreavus. I just couldn't! So I braced for the horrific impact, and said my goodbyes to Finn...

...but he survived with 1 HP!!! He did it!!! What a fantastic bulky Water-type, haha!!! As if I didn't already love Finn enough, he withstood the full force of Sinnoh's champion, despite already being in red health, and managed to hang in there with 1 final HP. He came back with a strident Surf and won the championship for the team, saving not only Misdreauvs, but the lifeblood of the whole journey as well.

It was sad to have lost the entire rest of my team, but we'd pulled through. I still had my 2 favorite Pokémon on Pearl, and the others could be recovered with some luck on the shiny trail. So I checked the swarm for that day, and it turned out to be a Corsola swarm on a tiny island in the far north. Up we voyaged!

Since I didn't have a Corsola in my Pokédex yet, I determined to catch the first one I saw. That first Corsola we encountered was a real ornery one, resisting Ultra Ball after Ultra Ball. I really wanted to catch her in a Heal Ball since the coloring went so nicely with Corsola's pink hue, but it broke out of dozens of them, so I resigned myself to keep chucking Ultras.

The Corsola was starting to rack up damage against my shiny Misdreavus, as it was a level 50 wild Pokémon. It wasn't a shiny or any big deal like that, but I still wanted to catch this first one and be able to start hunting them by running quickly, so I figured I'd switch out and keep throwing Balls. I flipped to a Swinub I'd caught in a recent swarm to take a few hits while I continued throwing Balls, but the Corsola made quick work of the Swinub.

Darn, that's another shiny I'll have to catch to revive Swinub.

Oh well. I'd put in a lot of effort to catch this Corsola already, so I was going to see it through. REMEMBER THE SUNK COST FALLACY, G-MONEY!!! STOP HERE!!!!1!!!!!!!!!!11

The Corsola managed to faint yet another weak Pokémon (a Growlithe I'd been carrying with me who was like level 3, haha) since I didn't have my strong team members, who had just been killed by Cynthia's ruthlessness the day before. So I turned to Finn.

The Corsola had caused problems enough, so I figured I'd try to weaken it with a non-super effective move and see if that helped my capture luck. Finn launched an attack that brought it down to red health, which looked like it would finally make this thing easier to catch.

The wild Corsola used Mirror Move! Finn fainted!

"lol!" :pink_laugh: I think I'm up to like 24 Pokémon that need to be revived in Pearl now (EDIT: just checked, and it's actually up to 25 now, "lol!"), hahaha! I did finally manage to end up catching that pesky Corsola after 51 Ultra Balls and a bunch of Heal Balls (and I did end up catching her in Heal Ball, after all that!), and she's temporarily replaced Finn as my Surfer. Until I get my next shiny, that is!!!

I'm up to 5427 Pearl swarm encounters, and lots of shaking grass encounters in Black's Pinwheel Forest as well!

Oh, and we're somehow tied for Club of the Year voting again (those Dragon Ascenders are starting to put up a bit of challenge!), so make sure you:

VOTE HERE!!!!

Nice, congrats on those new shinies!! I had no idea shiny Chespin looked like that - that's really cool, and a brilliant idea for a holiday hunt!! Way to go!! :pink_boogie:

And you're absolutely doing this club thing right!! :laugh-squinted: Keep it up with the killer posts, dude!!! Def feel free to post as much as you want - the club is more fun when people post more often, so definitely don't hesitate to post updates on your hunts whenever you have them! One possible tip is that if you've made the most recent post in the club, it's a good idea to edit your previous post and tack the new information on to the end instead of making a new one.

Good luck on your holiday hunts (especially Bruxish!) and I hope to see many more shiny successes from you!!! :pink_boogie:

Welcome to the SHC, deathtwister!! I'm glad you joined!!

I had never heard of the swap exploit until you mentioned it. You must have bred a ton of Magikarp lately!!! Good luck on your Ho-oh and Houndoom hunts too, although I'm not so sure how much you need it - it looks like you've been getting about a shiny a day! :disbelief:

Pumpkaboo on X

Not that I have that much time to hunt these days but those are my areas of interest. I want to finish Shield before I spoil all the Galar shinies and decide which ones I like.

Hahahahahaha, I "lol"led really hard at that!! The absurdity of my contact method isn't lost on me - sorry about that!! But hey, it worked! The legendary shiny hunter has returned, so it looks like it was well worth it!! :boogie: You're a hard man to find, hahahaha! :pink_laugh:

But really, I'm super glad you're back!! It's great to hear that you've kept up shiny hunts through all these years and I hope most of your grand shiny successes are still yet to come!! Good luck on the Giratina, Druddigon, and Pumpkaboo hunts!!

So this just happened...

Number battled: 5.
Turn 1: Broke out of the quick ball.
Turn 2: Memento. T___T

And it seems almost everything in the Lake of Outrage has a suicide move. Shiny hunters beware...
This is the third career shiny I lost. No, I don't have a masterball yet.

deathtwister December 23rd, 2019 3:16 AM

I have been playing a lot since last 5 months.
Regarding my ho oh hunt....
I finally encountered shiny ho oh after 6 days of sring and i fought it for over 25 turns. It was on full health (after using recover) when my 57 lv badass feraligatr ko'ed it with a critical hit surf! was underprepared anyway. First time failed a shiny and felt the pain of all others who have failed.

Then the next day i accidentally ko'ed a shiny machop in ultra sun! Didn't feel as bad as ho-oh)
Yesterday was my most productive bday with regards to no. of shinies as while SRing for ho oh found 2 shiny machops(adamant, no guard and docile- guts) , shiny grubbin(modest) and a shiny mimikyu(quiet) via synchronised SOS battle (with shiny charm ofcourse).
Still hunting shiny ho-oh.............

Hey everyone! At some point in december I decided to shiny hunt some holiday-themed pokemon in gen 7. I got a few of them, so here's a badly photoshopped holiday card with the gang (plus my old abomasnow because you need a Christmas tree!). Merry Christmas from The Alolan Naturalist and: Taiga (Abomasnow, wormhole), Bruno (Chespin, egg), Subzero (Cryogonal, egg), Merry (Delibird, SOS) and Yule Tide (Bruxish, a particularly stubborn egg girl)

Hello everyone, Merry Chistmas!
Also congrats on being Club of the year and keeping it alive.
Congrats on all new shinies.

Not many news about me, most of my shinies this year have been from pokemon go community day pokemon, the last shiny i got from the main games was a shiny sandile from pokemon sun around 2019 get together. I´ll try hunting something related to the season before the year ends.

Happy holidays

Edit: Shiny mienfoo calm nature at dragonspiral tower caught in a dive ball. Maybe the blue color matches the season, I'll see if I can get another one.

Edit: Got another shiny, this time is a vanillish, adamant, caught in a quickball at dragonspiral tower, named it blueberry like the ice cream flavor.

Hi everyone, how is the Hunt going?
2020 is almost here, hope everyone is having a good time.

News: Got a shiny beartic at dragonspiral tower, male, adamant, caught in a dive ball. Named it Ice Bear like the one from the TV program. I have to say that that purple and blue really match it's type and makes it a beautiful shiny for a Winter season.

See you next time and happy new year. 😀

lillipup03 December 31st, 2019 3:00 PM

Well, I finally caught my first shiny of Sword and Shield! Now, it one of the guaranteed shiny Magikarp from the current event, but it was my first raid and it’s competitively perfect, aside from nature!

Unfortunately, excluding that Magikarp, I have a several month long shiny drought that’s been continuing. However, I’m feeling good about my hunts in 2020. I just hit 100 eggs for Snom in Sword, and 244 soft resets for Mewtwo in Ultra Sun, so hopefully those come soon!

Velveteenwolf January 1st, 2020 11:48 AM

Caught my first shiny in Pokémon Shield the shiny max raid Magikarp. I always wanted to get one but never had any luck fishing them. Going to teach it Hydro pump.

Edit: Just got another one and I just realized they are both squared shiny! My first ones! Does anyone know if all the magikarp are supposed to be squared?

SiegeGoatRevenge January 1st, 2020 8:00 PM

Just Masuda'd my first Shiny since Diamond, Rookidee! I will be looking to do a lot more shiny hunting in this game since I have a lot more patience with this sort of stuff then I did when I was a kid.

Hello everyone and happy new year!
Hope everyone had a Good time and may we all reach our goals this year.

Congrats lilipup03 on your shiny magikarp, even if its a guaranteed shiny it's a shiny you can add to your collection and thanks to the mints you can change it's nature in case you want to evolve and use it in competitive.

Congrats on your shiny magikarps velveteenwolf, no idea if they are supposed to be guaranteed squared shinies though, but they are cool to have.

Congrats on your shiny rookidee SGR.

News: Got this morning a shiny mienfoo at dragon spiral tower, this time it's adamant but probably with high sp atk stat due to being highly curious, caught it in a heal ball so that it matches with it's shiny evolution. Named it KF Master (for Kung Fu Master) and evolved it into a Mienshao. Now I've got both, the pre evolution and the evolution, and it's my first shiny of the year.

Maybe I should start hunting something realated to the year of the rat.

Cya next time and happy shiny hunting.

Update: Found a shiny vanillite at dragonspiral tower yesterday, don't know nature and stats yet because if I change area the season will change and I want to keep it in winter season for now.

:pink_boogie: :boogie: :pink_boogie:HUGE CONGRATS, SHC!! We're the Club of the Year!!!!! :boogie: :pink_boogie: :boogie: *throws balloons* :pink_boogie:

An enormous thanks to VisionofMilotic and Fairy for hosting the competition!!! And for designing our plaque and trophy!!!!! *hangs up hardware in SHC's "Greatest Club Evah" showcase*

We're a pinned thread now, too!! :laugh-squinted:

And a huge thanks to everyone who voted for us - each one of your votes counted, since we ended up winning by exactly one vote! :pink_laugh:

We've won the grand prize - a gift card of our choosing! I'm still not totally sure how we should distribute it, so I'd like you all to vote (again, "lol!" Sorry, hahaha!) on what kind of competition you'd like to determine the winner!

Reply here in the thread with your ideas, and once we have a couple of votes in, we'll host our grand competition!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I got a Switch and Sword!!!! "lol" I'm absolutely loving it so far - Pokémon on a console is absolutely stupendously amazing, and I'm loving every second of it!!! I haven't found any shinies so far, but you guys know where I'll come as soon as I do find one, hahahaha!

I've also taken up SRing for Anorith in Pearl on days when the swarm is something I already have (like Zigzagoon or Electrike, haha). I'm up to 766 SRs so far!

Of course! I may actually try hunting all the moth 'mon at full-odds. (Still working on Venonat/Venomoth here and there, but I get distracted easily.)

I think I mentioned before that I was reluctant to try for another Shiny Eevee, afraid that getting another would make the random one I found in X (now Flareon) feel less special, but I was wanting a Pokémon that I could use in-game to represent my cat (a grey domestic longhair) and thought Shiny Eevee was the closest match. I was bouncing between Ultra Sun and VC Gold for the hunt, but I'm glad I ended up getting it in the latter since its shade of grey is closer to my cat in GSC.

https://i.imgur.com/7jyBh6a.jpg

Eevee may not clearly be a cat, but I learned recently that Eevee's creator likened it to a "fluffy cat" or "dog-like creature" (though it wasn't directly based on any particular animal). (I thought it was a fox!) That combined with the fact that a few of its evolutions look very feline (namely Vaporeon, Espeon, and Leafeon) makes me want to think of Eevee as a cat—a puppy cat...?

Thanks so much for the kind words! I don't think I'll be doing as much as I did for the past holidays, but I'll definitely attempt some themed hunts for upcoming holidays. Stay tuned!
In the meantime I'd like to share a hunt I'm particularly proud of: I completed the eeveelutions set, plus an extra unevolved eevee! Took me a bit more than a week. From left to right, meet my boys (they're all male, crazy gender ratios!): Glacies, Nox, Poas, Ibera, Argyro, Kathadin, Solaris, Aestas and Opal!

Congrats on the gen 2 shiny eevee icycatelf, that is an amazing accomplishment! I'm team "eevee is a fox" ahah but it definitely also has catlike features and is a worthy avatar for your cat! Plus I love its gen 2 shiny because it can make you feel like you're playing the game in black and white

Thanks, and 'gratz on your Eevee set!

As much as I want to see Eevee as a cat, I still can't help but get fox vibes from it (even with the evidence suggesting otherwise). Its bulbous, light-tipped tail is very typical of a cartoon fox, though a real fox tail basically looks the same as that of a long-haired cat. I think it's the light tip that gets me the most (not that cats can't have a light-tipped tail), but this is actually missing in nearly all of its classic TCG art. I can get past the long ears, which are typical of fantasy animals. I'll probably be giving my TrainerSona a recolored grey Torracat (whenever I get around to drawing the whole gang), but Shiny Eevee with its canon grey coloring is extremely tempting (even more so now that I've got this Eevee)!

I've been wanting a full-odds Shiny Leafeon for a little while (Leafeon being the Eeveelution I can most easily picture myself with IRL), so I've already got a clone reserved for whenenever I reactivate Pokémon Bank. His Hidden Power is Grass, so it's like it was meant to be!

Its greyscale coloring catches me off-guard almost every time, especially when battling something colorful. It's like the two sprites are from different games!

Reply here in the thread with your ideas, and once we have a couple of votes in, we'll host our grand competition!

Happy New Year, Chr.!!!! It's so good to see you around!!

Major congrats are in order for all of those awesome shinies you got - you're really giving the Alolan naturalist a run for his money in getting the coolest winter shinies! :laugh-squinted:

Any big plans for your next hunt?

Hi, Happy new year G, Good to see you too. Thank you very much for the congrats. 😀
For now I'm thinking of finding the remaining ice types in the unova region, so far in my black save file I've got a shiny kyurem (from a few years ago), vanillite (recently got a second one), vanilish and soon a vaniluxe when I evolve one of the vanillites, and a beartic. from the unova ice types missing are only cubchoo and cryogonal, which i'm thinking of doing the repel trick, but first i'll try getting a winter deerling, if one of the shinies is repeated i'll change to twist mountain and hunt for cubchoo and cryogonal and try deerling in another route. Good thing about the deerling/sawsbuck line is that they automaticaly change forms according to the season. There are other ice types i've gotten in my other games but i have to check and organize them.
Congrats on your switch and pokemon sword, hope you find many shinies there and also hope you can get that shiny anorith in Pearl soon.

Congrats on shiny eevee

In the meantime I'd like to share a hunt I'm particularly proud of: I completed the eeveelutions set, plus an extra unevolved eevee! Took me a bit more than a week. From left to right, meet my boys (they're all male, crazy gender ratios!): Glacies, Nox, Poas, Ibera, Argyro, Kathadin, Solaris, Aestas and Opal!

Congrats on completing the eevee set and nice picture

News: Got another shiny vanillite in pokemon black at dragon spiral tower, this one is female, has no name yet and I'll stay at dragon spiral tower for a while longer and see if I can get either a winter deerling or a cubchoo before changing location. Good thing season doesn't change as long as you stay in the same route. Once finished I'll check on the pc the nature and personality of both shinies and update it here.

Cya next time and happy hunting

Update: Got another male shiny mienfoo in pokemon black. Will post pics later in my next update. Interesting fact about the unova pokedex is that it counts the shiny seen only once per gender (maybe form), I mean, i got 3 male mienfoos and only shows that i have seen one shiny, but for those were i got both male and female of the same species shows 2. I'll stay just a Little bit longer at dragon spiral tower, but i most probably will change hunting spot later.

'Sup? Long time no see.

Last I was here I was hunting Shiny Gastly in LGE. I was unsuccessul even with two different chains and once I got a hold of a copy of Sword I had to put it to rest.
I was actually already losing interest a bit before that anyway since Haunter has to be traded to get Gengar and I have no friends who play nor do know if I trust a stranger with a Shiny.
Still, I might circle back to that another time.

I'm now shiny egg hunting in Sword. I've gotten:
Scorbunny
Rookidee
and 2 Eevee. In a row! The second was quite by accident. I'm using both nurseries to shiny egg hunt two Pokemon at once, 2 eggs of one and 1 egg of the other and didn't realize I had two Eevee eggs instead of two Sobble eggs.

It appears the photographic evidence is gonna have to be postponed, Imgur isn't working right now.

I'm currently working on Sobble and Rookidee again as the first was a female and I'd prefer a male.

I did attempt to hunt Rookidee in the wild but I think I got gypped. I maxed out the odds with the 500+ battles and I am certain the 628 that brings it to sans Shiny Charm but got nothing.

I've had some trouble logging onto the forum recently but in january, in anticipation of the Lunar new year of the Rat, I did a rodents-themed hunt, which I think only you guys will appreciate ahah. Here's Fluorence the patrat (184 eggs), Megawatt the Raichu (Many, many SOS calls), Ratthew the ratatta (113 eggs) and Ratasha the Alolan ratata (a grueling ONE SOS call!). I also SOS chained a pichu whose name I'm forgetting and a Pikachu called Kilowatt, and hatched a Marill, Limna. Now I'm attempting a Valentine's day-themed hunt but also in the long term I would like my shiny hunts to result in having a full shiny monotype team for every type (inspired by a post I saw on reddit). We'll see how far away I am from that goal

Congratulations! Duplicate shinies are great when they are of a pokemon that can evolve, cause you can get the stronger final evo but also keep one at a lower stage. I like vanillite's shiny better than it's evos personally

I think it's very cool how you try to have personal connections with your choice of pokemon! Honestly a white and grey litten line would look amazing! I've always been a bit disappointed in leafeon's shiny (especially since it's such a great design) but from pictures I've seen of the switch games, its shiny looks much better and more distinct, not to mention prettier, there

Congrats, that's a nice shiny collection for the chinese new year. Those Hunts sound fun, go for it.
I also like vanillite's color more than it's evos, would have liked the colors were kept in the evos, more like a strawberry ice cream instead of the pre evo strawberry flavored and the others either be blueberry or grape flavor (fun fact grape ice cream exists but it's rare due to the difficulty to make it).

Pokémon go news: I'm going to divide news in pokemon go and main games shinies. Yesterday got a shiny magikarp and a shiny magmar:

Shinies caught: Shiny Ditto in Ultra Sun and Shiny Raticate in Fire Red.

So I was grinding my team to level 40 in Fire Red, and I encountered a shiny Raticate! I was so freaked out, and I used my only master ball and I nicknamed him Sparkles! I will need to over level him up to level 60, because Raticate has terrible stats! I'm so happy though!

Hey everybody, me again! Another month, another holiday shiny hunt. This time, a Valentine's day special with all pink shiny. This has been a great success, because I got my first ever non-mystery gift shiny legendary!!! Aramis the Virizion at around 1520 SRs joined this month's other hunts, Cerise the cutiefly, Peach the Togedemaru, Valentine the sneasel, and Arenal the Magmar (all SOS hunts) and Acantha the Mareanie (552 eggs).

Queen February 15th, 2020 12:12 AM

Been lurking here for years and just noticed this club existed. My shinys are in my trade sheet link in my signature. I recently hatched my first shiny in gen 8, little bunny boi, and currently hunting shiny green monkey boi 😁

MetalMario February 16th, 2020 5:19 PM

Update! I've very disorganized so I didn't get my pictures together until now. I've found 3 shinies over the course of a month and a half since my last update...but all of them are repeats! >__<

First, I randomly found a shiny Graveler on LGP while making the rounds collecting items. (I was using the Pokéball controller so no screenshots until it was safely in the ball.) Shiny charm, no catch combo. I already have a shiny Graveler on Pearl and had a shiny Geodude on my stolen Diamond, but a shiny's a shiny I guess.

I've gone back to finishing Ultra Sun now that I've finished Shield, including Living Pokédex, and the first thing that shows up on that mountain route near the observatory is a shiny Beldum! 1/4096 "full" odds. I already chained shiny Beldums in the sandstorm on Pearl.

Then, on the same Ultra Sun game, I find a shiny Psyduck in Ten Carat Hill which I was cleaning house in after obtaining Sharpedo's ride. Also full odds!

I also managed to randomly enter two different shiny Max Raids and catch them, but they're probably RNGed. Still pretty to look at:

It's so weird that I'm finding all these full odds shinies on US but still haven't gotten that shiny Stufful yet. >__< My number caught (Shield, shiny charm) is past 400 now. Odds close to being maxed. Good luck on your hunts, everyone!

Current targets: Stufful (Shield), Giratina (Platinum), and Druddigon (Black 2)

Noblejanobii February 16th, 2020 6:46 PM

Started hunting shiny galarian ponyta in Sword. Haven't had luck yet but I also haven't hunted a ton yet either so I still have a ways to go. I have managed to catch a few den shinies though!

Get ready for...

The Great Shiny Nickname Contest!!!

It's time for our major contest to celebrate our Club of the Year victory! There were 0 votes for all of the contest ideas ("lol") so I'm tentatively making this one our contest (unless someone comes up with a better idea, haha!)! There are three steps in this contest:

1) Find shinies!
2) Catch shinies!
3) Give your shinies cool nicknames!

Let's see who can come up with the most amazing, stupendous, awe-inspiring, and jaw-dropping names to adorn their sparkling triumphs!

So go out and catch as many shinies as you can from February 29th, 2020 through March 31st, 2020, and post your shinies and their nicknames here! Then we'll all vote between April 1st and April 7th, and the person whose shinies received the most votes will be crowned "Champion of Shiny Pokémon, Majesty of Majestic Monikers, Finder of Phenomenal Pseudonyms, and Royal Excellency of the Most Exalted Nomenclatures." You will also receive a $20 gift card to a store of your choice!

I tried to design a contest that rewarded getting more shinies, but not to the extent that it would incentivize nefarious behavior. I think I struck a balance here so that getting more shinies increases your probability of winning (if you have more shinies, your Pokémon will make up a larger percentage of the pool of potential candidates), but getting more shinies doesn't strictly correspond to winning unless you can come up with some killer names for them. It's possible for someone to win this competition with just one shiny in the whole month*, so everyone has a fair shot at competing!!

*But wait, there's more! This is a leap year, and we can celebrate our superb luck in getting to live in a year with an extra day (woot woot!! :boogie: :pink_boogie: :boogie: :pink_boogie:) by having an extra day for the contest!! So go out there and hunt some really cool shinies, and enjoy your extra day in February, too!

For a shiny to be eligible, you'll need to post it - and its nickname! - by midnight HST (which is pretty close to the International Date Line, so that gives you a few extra hours to post if, say, you got a shiny at like 11:55 PM in your time zone and you need time to log on to PC and post and totally not because I just picked the time zone where I live  ). For the purposes of this contest, you can't change a shiny's name once you've posted it, and each shiny can only have one nickname. Between April 1st and April 7th, everyone will be able to vote on their favorite nickname/shiny combo that was posted during the contest, and voting will close at midnight HST on April 7th. Everyone will get one vote, although I'd be opening to giving everyone three votes if you guys think that's a better idea. Let me know! Maybe it would be a good idea to honor the runners-up, even if there's no grand prize for them...or maybe we could craft less-prestigious titles for the 2nd and 3rd place finishers, "lol!"

The winner will be the shiny hunter who gets the most votes for all of their shinies added together, so the same person getting votes for multiple different shinies won't be hurt from vote-splitting. This should keep intact the incentive to get as many shinies as possible, and to give them all amazing names!

If you guys think this is a really dumb idea, let me know and we can totally change up the contest to something different. We can modify it to make it better, or we could scrap the idea and go with a totally new contest idea - it's up to you guys! This is just my tentative suggestion, but this is the one that'll go into effect on February 29th (OMG did you guys know we get a leap day this year!?? More time to hunt!! More shinies!! ) unless someone comes up with something better, haha!

Guys!!! This is the most ridiculous contention I've ever seen! :pink_laugh: Eevee is clearly not a fox - it's the furthest thing from it! Linoone is closer to being a fox! Furret is closer to being a fox! Heck, even Virizion and Cobalion might have claim to possessing more fox-like features than Eevee!

(Sword/Shield spoilers in the following spoiler tag; don't open it if you haven't played the new games yet! The other spoiler further down in this post is the usual G-Money length one, haha. That one's safe to read!)

Spoiler:
If you want to see a real fox, look at Nickit! Now that is a fox. Thievul is a fox. Linoone and Furret are less foxy than those two, but they're still both wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy ahead of Eevee and all of its evolutions in the foxicity competition, haha!

But Eevee? Like, guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG foxes are orange and long and have mean eyebrows. Eevee is a cute little elf-creature that's, like, a fantasy magic-forest derivative of an angelic cat, with certain doglike properties (arguably). Eevee is closer to a ground-based, mammalian Swablu than anything else.

I can't believe such heresy is being spewed!! Eevee is clearly, like...um, well, I don't really know what it is, but I know it's not a fox!! :tongue-poke:

And I totally get what you mean about the seasons staying in GenV games until you leave a route - when I was in Challenger's Cave for over a year, I would sometimes leave without saving just to look at my shinies in my boxes and take pictures, and it was always funny seeing the season change like 3 times right in a row since I had been in that cave so long, hahahaha!

Hahahahha I absolutely love it!!! I'm a big fan of your themed hunts, dude!! Congrats on all of those rodent shinies (you classified these ones right, unlike with Eevee :pink_tongue: ) and pink shinies!! I'm glad that you finally got your first shiny fox Pokémon with that Virizion.

Welcome to the SHC, Poppliojaz! Congrats on those shinies and have fun training your new Raticate - seeing the sparkles glisten out of the Pokéball each time you send him out is a reminder of your great shiny victory! :laugh-squinted:

Welcome to the Shiny Hunters Club, Queen! Congrats on that shiny Scorb; I'm under the impression that it's an extremely powerful Pokémon, but that might just be because I picked the Grass starter and was always at a disadvantage against it, "lol!"

Good luck on your Grook hunt! He's by far my favorite starter in a while...maybe top 5 overall? Not as cool as Cyndaquil or Bulbasaur, but probably duking it out with Chikorita for 3rd place out of the 24!!

Congrats on those new shinies, MetalMario!! Especially the new Beldum, but going by your avatar, you don't need me to tell you how cool those things are! :laugh-squinted:

Good luck with your current targets! And it's super impressive that you've managed to get a living Dex already in Shield!! :littleo:

Congrats on those new shinies!! Good luck on the Galarian Ponyta hunt, too; I think it's like a bazillion times better than the original, haha! And the original wasn't even bad - the new one is just amazingly cool!

Love the contest idea! Not sure how many Shinies I'll acquire since I'm focusing on full-odds hunts (bouncing between Meowstic-M, Sneasel, and Venomoth), but hopefully I'll get some and come up with some cool nicknames!

It makes sense that some people see Eevee as a fox, given that even its creator likened it to a cat or dog. While more closely related to canines, foxes exhibit many feline characteristics. (Many liken Eevee to a fennec fox—the origin of Fennekin—given its long ears, but I'm on your side with that being more of a magical/elf-like feature.) I do have trouble seeing how people get fox out of Leafeon, though. To me, it's clearly a colorpoint cat with no dog-like features at all.

Speaking of Leafeon, I've really been enjoying it lately. I transferred the Shiny Eevee clone I evolved into Leafeon to Sword (along with some of my other most-treasured Shinies that could be transferred) and I want to use him all the time! I think it's one of my absolute top favorite Pokémon now (maybe even above Wartortle, though Wartotle might still win out in terms of nostalgia).

I love the contest idea! I've already got a few nicknames in mind so I'll wait until the end of the month to hunt shinies and put those nicknames on 'em! In the meantime, I wanted to do another holiday themed hunt for February but a short one, since I did a long valentines' day hunt. This weekend was carnival in a lot of different cultures, especially Caribbean, Latino and European countries, so I did a hunt around music and dancing. I already had Nymphea the ludicolo, so I hunted Memento Mori the firedancing alolan marowak, Nectarine the costume-changing Oricorio, and Bolero the maracas-shaking Maractus! I really need to get a life ahah

Hi, I've been stalking this thread for a while and finally decided to join. For a past year and half, I'm trying to complete Shiny Badge Quest on Ultra Moon that I call Shiny Island. For anyone who doesn't know what Shiny Badge Quest is, you basically have to find a shiny Pokémon before each Gym, or in my case before each Trial. I also added some more special hunts for each Grand Trial.

I finished the main story in November and haven't touched the game for a few weeks now, but I was shiny hunting Type:Null, Poipole and Stakataka. Well I didn't even got to Poipole and Stakataka yet and I'm about 850 SRs on Type:Null.

I really like the contest idea, but won't probably participate, because I'll focus on finishing up mentioned hunts and beating Battle Tree with my shinies. But the idea of themed hunts that the Alolan naturalist is doing sounds like a lot of fun.

G-Money February 29th, 2020 11:34 AM

:pink_boogie: May the contest begin!! :boogie:

For the voting in April, everyone will get one vote, and the hunter who's amassed the most votes for their shinies wins the grand prize! I was going to have everyone get three votes, but then I figured that that would reward quantity over quality, since someone could get votes for three different shinies then, even if two of them weren't the coolest thing ever, haha. This raises the stakes to their highest - each shiny counts! Give 'em the very coolest names possible!!

Good luck, shiny hunters! :pink_nod:

-----------------------------------------------

12421 Swarm encounters (Pearl)
2305 Anorith SRs (Pearl)
5085 Chespin hatched (X)
A bunch of Pinwheel Forest shaking grass encounters (Black)

Happy leap day, everyone!!! Enjoy your extra day of hunting!! And life!!

Hahaha, you've convinced me on that! :laugh-squinted: I'd never seen (or even heard of! :littleo:) a colorpoint cat before, but Leafeon's totally that, haha!

Woah, huge congrats on those shinies! I had no idea what could possibly be a theme other than Valentine's Day, but you came up with something incredibly awesome, and then found perfect shinies to boot!! :pink_disbelief: I honestly would have never thought of those Pokémon as being dancing Pokémon, but you're absolutely right!!!!!!! "lol" what perfect picks for a totally awesome theme, haha!!

Welcome to the SHC, JANP!! We're super glad to have you join - that Shiny Island sounds incredible!! Massive props on all those shinies you got, but especially the Popplio - I was planning on hatching for one when I hunted it, since I tested out a few SRs and they seem to take an incredibly long time for each one, haha!!
Major respect to you on grinding out that SRed Alolan starter!!

Good luck on your next round of hunts! And you just need one shiny in the next month (plus your extra day in February!) to compete in the contest!

So was working on getting all Kanto pokemon in Let's Go Eevee to transfer over to pokemon home to work on Magearna, and I ended up running into a Full Odds Shiny Zubat + Shiny Charm in Rock Tunnel which took me by surprise.

Haven't gotten any other Shiny Pokemon since I think Ho-oH or those from Ultra Worm Holes when I was actively Shiny Hunting last year. I did get a SHiny Chansey in Go, but decided not to count those anymore.

My new goal is to get Shiny Celebii now from Crystal. Have it not on V Console, but haven't done anything yet. Will probably start when I get done with Kanto Pokemon in Let's Go.

icycatelf March 11th, 2020 9:25 AM

First March 2020 Shiny!

I've mostly been hunting Sneasel in Gen. 2 and 4, but I decided to hop on Ultra Sun this morning to spend some time with my Shiny Mothim while hunting and found this instead:

https://i.imgur.com/NI3ZMWn.jpg

I named her Rheau after Manon Rhéaume, but I'm pronouncing it ree-oo instead of ray-aw. (I thought about shortening it to Rhea—which can be pronounced ree-uh, ray-uh, or simply ree/ray—but I like how the u looks at the end.) Purely coincidentally, this sounds similar to the Japanese word for dragon, ryu, which Glalie has the type advantage over.

I'm not so much a fan anymore, but Glalie was actually one of my main Pokémon in Gale of Darkness. (I usually say that it was Froslass that got me into Ice-types, but maybe it was Glalie?)

Sirfetch’d March 13th, 2020 8:50 AM

Currently hunting shiny Ferroseed in Sword Version myself! Been taking a break from hatching eggs as my last few hunts were annoyingly long but hopefully this one goes much better.

On a side note I’ve been getting a lot of shinies from raids. I don’t count them really as the majority are from just random raids I join online, likely being exploited, but it’s still fun to see a dynamax shiny and add it to my collection!

Hi Everyone! Back at it again with a holiday Hunt. Happy St Patrick's Day! After my carnival hunt I decided to start hunting the infamously polarizing green shinies (all in nest balls!) and it turns out I was super lucky and got them all in like two weeks (and most of that time was spent hunting skarmory. That was hard!). In fact, I had my first ever double shinies! I was hunting with mine and a borrowed DS, doing two simultaneous SOS hunts and both shinies appeared at the same time!! Unfortunately, my great february luck turned into horrible march luck ahah, and it also means that none of these pokemon can be entries for the nickname contest. Oh well, anyways here's Pesto the little dragon, Brasilia the sea cucumber, Calypso the flower, Stym the metal birb (named for stymphalian birds of greek mythology), Sirocco the sea birb, Wasabi the drunk panda, and Jade the butterfly-ish!

Thanks! I've grown to love them too! the thing that turned the tide for me is espeon. I hated it until someone mentionned it looked like a green alien, then it grew on me and I ended up embracing the silliness. Tauros is pretty much the only one that I havent warmed up to yet. I even learned to love radioactive stantler and ursaring even though their shinies make no sense ahah.
As for skarmory, I honestly don't know but it took like 3-4 evenings of SOS chaining. I thought it was an impossibly hard hunt until this month I SOS hunted dragalgae and it took me almost 2 weeks!

lil' starfish March 26th, 2020 4:13 PM

haven't visited this thread in at least 100 years (i'm getting notifs for my old posts from 2018, they're so cringe lol) but here's some shinies I got this month in my Sacred Gold playthrough. none of these topped 50 soft resets!

https://i.imgur.com/fWlbJLC.png
https://i.imgur.com/DRIFa1b.png
https://i.imgur.com/eQbzMP7.png

here's Lily! I was beyond happy when I got her, she is such a treasure. she's the first shiny I've ever gotten in a gen 4 game and meanwhile I've been trying to get shiny Piplup for 3 years xD

https://i.imgur.com/VhIL46W.png
https://i.imgur.com/yBJmJqd.png

and here's my latest shiny, I don't know what to name him yet. he's weird because I was trying to get a female eevee with an increased special attack in order to evolve into an Espeon.... and to use as an eevee-making machine for my pokedex quest. came looking for copper but found gold!

I dunno wether to evolve him into an Espeon or Umbreon, since those are some of my favorite shinies. and I'll need to figure out another way to get a female eevee.

edit: Celadon Gamecorner is the only other way, I hope this hack has mantained that. looks like I'll have to spend 6 hours trying to get enough coins from a game based on luck, again :/

Hi everyone: Hope everybody's staying safe from the pandemic. In the last post I made (green shinies for St Patrick's) none of my shinies qualified for the Mqrch contest so here's the shinies I got this month that DO qualify. I realised while making the composite image that there is a blue and purple theme going on. That was (mostly) unintentional although I have been mostly focused on aquatic shinies as of late. Dragalge and Horsea (not pictured) took me like 2.5-3 weeks to find!!
I'm sad we don't have more entries for the contest, but anyways here's mine!
- Clair de Lune the Cresselia (means "moon shine" in french without the alcoholic connotations ahah), got this one today, after only 198 SR (was bracing for 1000s of them ahah)
-Spartacus the Ralts, to become a Gallade (MM+SC)
-Agate the rockruff, SOS chained
-Titan the Wailmer, from a pretty quick SOS chain
-Poseidon the Wishiwashi from today, under 80 SOS calls
-Kuroshio the Dragalge (named after the current that runs along Japan), my most grueling SOS hunt to date
-Triton the Clamperl, to become a Huntail, SOS chained

"lol" since no one's voted yet, we'll extend the voting deadline through the end of the month! The candidates are:

  • icycatelf's Rheau
  • lil' starfish's Lily
  • the Alolan naturalist's Clair de Lune
  • the Alolan naturalist's Spartacus
  • the Alolan naturalist's Agate
  • the Alolan naturalist's Titan
  • the Alolan naturalist's Poseidon
  • the Alolan naturalist's Kuroshio
  • the Alolan naturalist's Triton
Everyone gets one vote! I'll hold off on casting my vote in case we need a tiebreaker, haha. Best of luck to all the contestants! :pink_boogie:

icycatelf April 15th, 2020 6:45 AM

Ah, I was waiting for a poll! My vote goes to the Alolan naturalist's Kuroshio. Sounds cool and ties-in nicely, plus leafy seadragons are awesome!

the Alolan naturalist April 15th, 2020 4:14 PM

Well, I hate to have to choose only one, but it has to go out to Icycatelf's Glalie Rheau, because I love the thought you've put into it. However, LilStarfish, please know that it was a close call, because I absolutely love shiny totodile with a passion (it was my second ever intentional shiny hunt) and I think it's funny to give the little ruffian such a delicate name as Lily.

icycatelf April 25th, 2020 6:42 PM

It's no Shiny Venonat/Venomoth, but I'd sort of been wanting another Shiny Oddish anyway since learning that pawpaws (which I only recently discovered behind my house) have flowers that, like the much larger and rarer Rafflesia that inspired Vileplume, are carrion mimics (they look and smell like dead flesh to attract scavenging insects). His nickname comes from Asimina triloba, the common pawpaw's scientific name. (Now I kind of wish that Shiny Vileplume's petals stayed a shade of red...)

I'll go ahead and join. I have been stalking these halls with admiration for a long time, I think this is such a cool club and you guys who have been hunting shinies all these years are so awesome, but because I'm a rookie I've been timid about posting here. I feel ready to come out of the shadows.

I just caught a bashful shiny Purugly this weekend with the help of the dexnav in Omega Ruby after 397 encounters. I know a lot of people don't like Purugly, but I always thought she was a funny pokemon with the puffed out chest, death stare and teeny feet. She thinks she's so tough.

I would have loved one with the hidden ability defiant and either the jolly nature I was synchronizing for or adamant, but I will still happily take this bashful own tempo kitty. I think Purugly has such a fun purple shiny and I named mine Cheshire after the infamous Cheshire Cat from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.

The first shiny I random encountered was Gible in Wayward cave in Platinum. The first I bred was Mawile in Omega Ruby, and the first legendary pokemon shiny I caught was a Lugia I sr for on the virtual console Crystal which I traded to my boyfriend as a Christmas present.

My current collection is in the spoiler tags. It's modest, but I am still proud. It's the culmination of my efforts breeding with the masuda method, friend safaris, random encounters, dexnavs encounters, GameStop distributions, trades with my friends, penpals and fellow members and my many other adventures in the pokemon world.

I am currently hunting a shiny Pikachu in an electric Friend Safari. As I mentioned have a shiny Raichu already, so now I would like a Pikachu to go along with it and add another member of the mouse family to the house. If I get two Pikachu then I will make one an Alolan Raichu, since the Raichu I have already is the Kantonian Raichu. I would not mind that regional variation with the chocolate candy color scheme at all.

Shiny Purugly is actually amazing! Glameow/Purugly are pretty rare considering they aren't in many games so I think you got a very nice shiny there!

Welcome! Don't see why you felt timid, you have a very respectable collection with some iconic shinies (gardevoir! greninja! and some personal faves too (ninetales! camerupt!)

As for me, I've been doing a shiny playthrough/shiny badge quest of Alpha Sapphire which I'm journalling here https://www.pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?p=10152395#post10152395 if anyone wants to check it out. I ahven't beeing SRing for starters or legendaries but I have been catching at least one shiny before each gym.
My team is:
-Tanuki the linoone
-Reverb the Exploud
-Bok Choi the Vileplume
-Gobi the Camerupt
-Nocturne the Crobat
-Bullet the sharpedo
-Carmine the gyarados I occasionally rotate in because despite being a common shiny, it's such a striking one and I don't get tired of looking at her!

I've also caught quite a few more!
I should probably post an updated list of all my shinies soon, since my collection is coming along nicely. I can't believe I had never hunted in gen 6 before this month (I'm doing it with no charm). Anyways, here's a nice picture of a purple duel that took place yesterday

VisionofMilotic May 2nd, 2020 9:33 AM

Thanks everybody for the warn welcome and words of encouragement.

I have been pretty lucky lately. I caught that shiny Pikachu and have updated the collection in my spoiler tags since we grew! I also chained fished up a corsola--such a lovely robin egg blue shiny, as well as a shiny clamperl. I want to keep clamperl in its pre-evolution. I like Gorebyss and Huntail as pokemon, their shinies are also really vibrant, Clamperl is a golden pearl though with a violet-colored shell, and to me it is the prettiest of all.

I also caught a shiny Buneary this week. I did not keep it, I hunted specifically for a friend who loves this pokemon and traded it to her this afternoon. So it's not in my collection right now, but I still think it's worth mentioning so I have the credit for still participating as a huntress.

I had good look with this one too. Only 277 dexnav encounters, it was female and had the jolly nature I was synchronizing for.

I'm also glad you posted the anime game again - now the newer members can see it, and they can post their teams if they want! I'm really surprised to see you take out Lickitung, though! :disbelief:

I decided to bring Lickitung back after all. I had dropped it since I was trying to base my team on things I've seen IRL, having read that Lickitung may be based on chameleons or blue-tongued skinks, but it hit me while reading up on things I've taken photos of that it's totally a lungless salamander! Similar to chameleons, many of these species have free-projectile tongues that they can launch nearly the length of their bodies. Lickitung also tends to hang out in damp areas (caves, watersides, and rainy routes), just like lungless salamanders.

I did drop Wartortle, though. I'd been comparing box turtles to Squirtle since they're in the same family as pond turtles, but now I think box turtles would be better represented by Turtwig given their mostly-terrestrial behavior. I also decided to switch my Shiny to Eevee (but closer to GSC colors) to represent my cat.

I'm still keeping Dunsparce though. I like to compare it to a sphingid caterpillar, which have a history of being mistaken for the Tsuchinoko. I've seen a few, but I'm still waiting to find one with big eyespots similar to Dunsparce (like the Tersa Sphinx caterpillar). (I have, however, seen a sphingid caterpillar that turns into a bee mimic: the snowberry clearwing/bumblebee moth caterpillar. Dunsparce looks like a bee, so good enough?)

Here's the game again if anyone else wants to play. (No need to make IRL connections like I did!)

Hi guys, it has been a long time since I posted on here and my shiny count has increased a lot during the past couple of years. I am currently hunting shinies from max raids in Shield and yesterday, I caught an Espurr (which I evolved), a Sableye and a Rolycoly. I also caught a shiny Gigantamax Pikachu on Wednesday.

@icycatelf Oh that sounds like a fun game. Would starters or other gift Pokemon you get from soft resetting count as long as the shiny charm wasn't used? My team would be Exploud, Gallade, Caterpie, Electrike, Venomoth and if soft resetting counts, Charizard.

Congrats on Espurr, Sableye, Rolycoly, and G-Max Pikachu!

Everything counts as long as it's full-odds (1/8192 pre-3DS or 1/4096 3DS-onward). :)

I've been trying to Shiny Charm + Masuda Method Shiny Treecko but I'm probably over 50 with no results yet.

AliceBlaze May 21st, 2020 4:27 AM

My new shinies:
Chatot in Platinum with a Pokeradar chain of 28
Two Whismur from horde encounters in Alpha Sapphire. I evolved one into Loudred.
Oddish from a horde encounter in AS. I now have the whole Oddish family.
Gmax Eevee from a raid. I evolved my two other Eevee into Glaceon and Sylveon, so now I have all Eeveelutions.

Sheep May 21st, 2020 9:21 AM

Congrats! :D

bf's friend hosted a shiny gmax Eevee raid yesterday, though it was at a bad time for me so I couldn't participate. I'm still eager to hatch that shiny Dream Ball Wooloo too... it'll happen eventually!!

Fun game! I take it dexnav doesnt count, but what about horde hunting? You know what, I'm only going to list the pokemon that were completely random finds that I wasn't even looking for. That's not a huge list (I'm also going to use the evolutionary stage at which I found them): venipede, voltorb, ditto, mienfoo, growlithe. Not exactly a dream team for me but I'd probably keep venipede as a shiny since it was my first ever non gyarados shiny, looks great, and it was actually the first venipede I ever saw and caught on a whim without realising it was shiny!

From my understanding, DexNav Shinies are only considered full-odds if it's your first time ever encountering that Pokémon. Horde encounters I'm personally a little iffy about since you're generating five Pokémon at once, but I suppose they're still full-odds technically (as long as you don't have the Shiny Charm).

the Alolan naturalist May 22nd, 2020 6:29 PM

I only really started shiny hunting back in november, but I'm so happy with how my collection has grown! (helps that I didn't have a life even before confinement so I did a lot of hunting hehe) I figured I'd post an update which will also serve as a checklist for me. One of my favorite things about pokemon and definitely about shiny hunting is thinking up/looking up good nicknames, so while a lot of my names are really lazy, there are a lot that I am also really proud of. I'm always perusing names of minerals, winds, geographic features, plants, other languages/cultures, or world mythology to find good ones. I put the inspiration for a bunch of them in parentheses. I know this is super self-indulgent of me, so i'm putting everything in spoilers so you don't have to see this long list if you don't want to.

Spoiler:
I have some duplicates which will eventually be evolved (I don't know if I'll do a whole living dex but I'll get as close as I can) They're all chilling in in gen 6 and mostly in gen 7 games. G-Money May 23rd, 2020 12:53 PM

"lol" I was hoping to avoid voting since both finalists had such amazingly terrific names, but it looks like the tiebreaker comes down to me, haha! Here goes...

icycatelf's Rheau:
+1 Cool-sounding name
+1 French influence
+1 Japanese influence
+2 Hockey name for an Ice Pokémon (link points)
+1 Cool Pokémon
+1 Alternate pronunciation
+1 Personal history with the trainer from a previous game
+1 Menacing eyes in the photo
+1 Goofy face in the photo (I laughed)
-3 Not using a cool accent mark where one could have been used

Total points: 7

the Alolan naturalist's Kuroshio:

+1 Japanese influence
+1 Cool name origin
+2 The thing it's named after looks like the Pokémon (link points)
+1 "Grueling" story of capture
+1 Menacing pose in the photo

Total points: 6
Status: Eliminated

the Alolan naturalist's Triton:

+1 Greek influence
+1 Cool reference
+2 Reference to the god of the sea for a Water Pokémon (link points)
+1 Cool-looking shiny
+1 Great shiny colors
+1 Multiple possible evolutionary futures
+1 Hiding in the photo (kinda cute)
-1 Planned evolution into an ugly Pokémon

Total points: 7

Darn. So my tiebreaker is going to need a tiebreaker! :pink_disbelief: After much deliberation, I have finally come to a decision. The grand winner of The Great Shiny Nickname Contest!!! is...

Spoiler:
icycatelf's Rheau!! A huge congratulations to icycatelf for coming up with the greatest nickname for his shiny in the SHC, and a huge congrats to the Alolan naturalist for a hard-fought battle with not just one, but two contestants who fought it out to the bitter end! This was a super tough choice, and all three of the aforementioned contestants merited serious consideration and deliberation, as well as lil' starfish's Lily, who had a fantastically hilarious name for a Totodile, but I wasn't going to split the votes yet again and perpetuate the tie, haha! Duverger rears his ugly head in the most unexpected of places! :laugh-squinted:

I ultimately went with Rheau because, although my metrics produced a tie between Rheau and Triton, Rheau had a larger number of distinct positive attributes than Triton, making it a slightly more multi-dimensional and well-rounded shiny (don't get me wrong, Clamperl is very, very rounded, but Glalie is almost a perfect sphere!). And the fact that it's a French name derived from a hockey player that describes an Ice-type shiny, but it also sounds like the Japanese word for the Pokémon Glalie counters, is just too cool. icycatelf! I hereby pronounce you "Champion of Shiny Pokémon, Majesty of Majestic Monikers, Finder of Phenomenal Pseudonyms, and Royal Excellency of the Most Exalted Nomenclatures." You may bear this glorious title in whatsoever fashion you so choose. You will also receive a $20 gift card to a store of your choice, provided by the ever-magnanimous VisionofMilotic and Fairy!

13777 Swarm encounters (Pearl)
4371 Anorith SRs (Pearl)

I'm still hunting the Swarm Pokémon in Pearl and SRing for Anorith on days when it's a lame shiny available, haha. On my other DS, I've been encountering in the Pinwheel Forest for a shaking-grass Pokémon (hopefully an elemental monkey!), and when that DS runs out I occasionally hatch Chespin eggs in X.

His nickname comes from Asimina triloba, the common pawpaw's scientific name. (Now I kind of wish that Shiny Vileplume's petals stayed a shade of red...)

Congrats on the new shiny, Champion of Shiny Pokémon, Majesty of Majestic Monikers, Finder of Phenomenal Pseudonyms, and Royal Excellency of the Most Exalted Nomenclatures!! Your posts are absolutely fascinating, by the way. I feel like I'm talking to a world-class expert on biology every time you post really cool facts like these, haha. I love it!

OMG VISIONOFMILOTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU JOINED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 :pink_boogie: :boogie: :pink_boogie: :boogie:

I can't believe it!!! I'm so glad you're a part of the club now!! :pink_nod: You know this means you can no longer be the coolest member of PC who's not a shiny hunter, right? :tongue-poke:

Congrats on your impressive shiny collection - you're off to a terrific start already! I had no idea you were such an accomplished shiny hunter!

Dude, that's so cool! Massive congrats on all those shinies!!! :pink_boogie:

I absolutely love your Travel Journal thread - def feel free to post your shiny stories here, too! After all, swapping shiny stories is the fundamental core of this club! :laugh-squinted: I think everyone here would be thrilled to hear your exciting tales of grand shiny victory! And even tales of defeat!

Only 277 dexnav encounters, it was female and had the jolly nature I was synchronizing for.

https://i.postimg.cc/P5stmrtG/IMG-20200429-143007915.jpg

Your generosity truly knows no bounds. A shiny Buneary as a gift during the Easter season!? What a great friend you are, hahaha! Congrats on those shinies and congrats on being the first person literally ever to figure out a way to make Corsola an Easter shiny, hahahaha! That's a nice link that I would've never thought of, "lol!"

And good call on not evolving that Clamperl into a gross Huntail (how icky!). the Alolan naturalist could learn a thing or two from you... :pink_giggle: *snickers evilly*

Golduck is pretty cool (I may actually make it part of my Gen. 4 team if I don't also find a Shiny Quagsire during the hunt), but I want my pink weasel/cat-weasel/civet!

https://i.imgur.com/QnqFS7D.pnghttps://img.pokemondb.net/sprites/heartgold-soulsilver/normal/dunsparce.pnghttps://img.pokemondb.net/sprites/platinum/normal/mothim.pnghttps://img.pokemondb.net/sprites/platinum/normal/shedinja.pnghttps://img.pokemondb.net/sprites/heartgold-soulsilver/normal/lickitung.pnghttps://img.pokemondb.net/sprites/heartgold-soulsilver/normal/omanyte.png

(No need to make IRL connections like I did!)

https://i.imgur.com/JFlbfA6.jpg

Congrats on the shiny Golduck! I'd keep going for that Sneaze if I were you, though! I had a regular Weavile on my original Diamond team, and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made for my team, along with my Zoroark/Lucario/Sandslash core from my Black 2 team. Masquerain/Camerupt/Manectric from Omega Ruby was a pretty great one, too, but Weavile is definitely in the discussion for the coolest possible Pokémon to have on an in-game team. And if you can have a shiny one, I'd say go for it!!!

I've never thought of Turtwig as a turtle, and it's about the furthest thing from Squirtle in my mind, haha. Heck, one of them is blue and the other one is green!! But looking at the first four letters of Turtwig's name, you might be on to something, "lol!" The part about Dunsparce resembling a caterpillar that mimics a bee (!???) is fascinating, too! I had likened Dunsparce more to a ground-based version of Stunfisk or a more inland Wimpod, haha.

I'm super glad to see you drop Licki back in there. A trainer's got to keep their main Pokémon and best buddy with them!! Also,

This deserves its own quote because it's frankly one of the coolest and most amazing things I've ever read. I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT!!!!! :pink_disbelief: Shut up! :disbelief: Like, really!? This is just so cool!!!!!! It's called a "free-projectile tongue"!??? Even that name oozes with coolness. And it can really shoot out almost its body length!!?? Woah!!! That's hyper-extraordinary!!! I was always under the impression that Lickitung was some kind of mythical thing, but I had no idea that there are things crawling out there that can shoot their tongues out like that. Far out!!

Gmax Eevee from a raid. I evolved my two other Eevee into Glaceon and Sylveon, so now I have all Eeveelutions.

AliceBlaze!!!!!!! You've returned!!!! I'm so glad to see you back! Congrats on those new shinies and I hope you find many more to commemorate your auspicious return to the SHC!

I "lol"led when I saw you sandwich Caterpie in between those towering behemoths of coolness Exploud, Gallade, Venomoth, and Charizard, haha!

Welcome to the SHC, DragonKing48! Good luck on your Treecko hunt! You've certainly picked a shiny with a cool color, haha. Keep hatchin' those eggs!

bf's friend hosted a shiny gmax Eevee raid yesterday, though it was at a bad time for me so I couldn't participate. I'm still eager to hatch that shiny Dream Ball Wooloo too... it'll happen eventually!!

Good luck on your Wooloo hunt, Sheep! You're the first person I've heard of hunting a shiny Wooloo, but with a name like yours, I shouldn't be surprised... :pink_laugh:

I totally can't get over the fact that the literal owner of the site and Supreme Leader of the whole PokéCommunity has posted in our club...I'm so honored!!! It's so surreal, haha.

Are you planning on evolving it into a Chandelure?

btw I totally love how my cursor turns into a Shaymin when it goes by your profile, haha! That's so dope!

That's a really cool story about Venipede! Finding a shiny of a Pokémon before finding a regular version of it is baffling, bwahahahahhaa!! Sometimes when I'm playing a new generation and I'm not familiar with the new Pokémon yet, if I look away from the screen for a second, I'll catch something again the second or third time I see it since I don't remember what the color was of the last one and I'm not sure whether it's a shiny or not, haha! I must have a half-dozen Flabébé in X since I didn't realize they came in multiple colors for the longest time, haha! And even in recent years, sometimes I've drifted too far into the flowers while collecting eggs by the Day Care and ended up catching the Flabébé because I wasn't sure if it was a shiny, "lol!" :laugh-squinted:

By Jove! I knew you were a magnificent shiny hunter and I've been thrilled to see your theme hunts produce a bunch of different related shinies at a time, but this is absolutely obscene! You're, like, not just a great shiny hunter here and now, but seeing your list in its entirety like this makes me realize that you're a historically significant shiny hunter. Like, in the Keruso/Maserati tier of ridiculous shiny victories, haha! And I'm pretty sure you're the first shiny hunter ever to come up with "extreme" nicknames for so many shinies!

And by "extreme," I mean that the vast majority of your nicknames are tremendously clever, well-thought-out, multi-faceted, and borderline inspirational, drawing on non-prosaic references to the most unique and striking nomenclatures ever bestowed from geography, literature, and mythology that demonstrate an incredible breadth of knowledge from world cultures and linguistic traditions...

...but you also have a bunch in there that are so awful that I laughed out loud ("lol!") at how bad they were, haha! As the grand contest showed, you're the only person in the club who can remotely keep pace with icycatelf's mastery of the craft, and your best names don't just approach his glory, but they consistently go toe-to-toe with his and have a plethora of merits to commend them. But then, you go ahead and dump on us those disgraces to dignity and justice like Ratthew, Ratasha, Billy, and Smaragdus, hahahahahahhahahahahhahahahahhahahahahhahaha! :pink_laugh: At first I thought your asterisks next to certain names were you censoring out the very worst of the bunch to spare us the horror! :tongue-poke: I love how the hunter who named his shiny Spoink "Boing" and besmirched the very air we breathe with Linda the Bounsweet (ew!) is the same fellow who blessed us with resplendent Thalassa, Maelstrom, Zenaida, Diodon, Ishizuke, Stym, Concordia, Stryx, and a whole multitude of other beautifully-named shinies! My favorite of all, though, has got to be none other than Doge Charger, although I can't tell if that's because it's your best or if it's because it's your worst...if you had caught that during the contest, you would've run away with the trophy and Doge Charger would've rightfully earned 30+ points! I've never seen anything in my life that's so incredibly clever with multiple layers of meaning resonating so concordantly to forge a harmony far greater than the sum of its parts, all while simultaneously being mind-bogglingly dumb and simplistic. Bien joué, mec! I'm aghast in amazement!

Spoiler:
icycatelf's Rheau!!

WHAT?!?? :O

Your posts are absolutely fascinating, by the way. I feel like I'm talking to a world-class expert on biology every time you post really cool facts like these, haha. I love it!

I'm glad I can educate! I love teaching people about the things I find on my little excursions, though I'm certainly no expert!

Also,

*snip*

Far out!!

Don't worry, I have no intention of giving up on Sneasel. I've always thought it was a cool Pokémon (partially because I remember my cousin flaunting arount his Neo Genesis Sneasel card way back in elementary school). It's also one of my most popular custom cards, so I kind of feel that I need a full-odds one to go along with it. (I actually do have a full-odds female from Moon, but I prefer the longer "feather" of the male.)

Weavile is definitely useful in battle, hitting fast and hard, but I'll probably only evolve it if I clone it. I'm cool with Weavile, but Sneasel is more nostalgic/significant to me (though Weavile does suit my username pretty well, being an Ice-type feliform with elf-like ears.)

I've always thought of Turtwig as a turtle, but its evolutions look more like Ankylosaurs to me. And I actually think Dunsparce may draw inspiration from snake-mimicking caterpillars, similar to Caterpie, though unlike Caterpie is actually part snake (I think its bee-like features are just a reference to bachi hebi/bee snake, another name for the snake-like Tsuchinoko, and likely has no actual connection to bee-mimicking moths). (I go into the theory more here if you'd like to give it a read.)

(What I didn't mention in the theory is that there's another creature that some believe to be synonymous with the Tsuchinoko, the Nozuchi, which is sometimes depicted as a hairy caterpillar-like creature.)

Lickitung is thought to draw its core inspiration from a mythological creature, the Akagame or "filth licker," a yokai sometimes described as a red, humanoid frog-like creature that licks bathhouses clean. The size of its tongue is actually more in line with chameleons, having tongues about twice the length of their bodies, but Lickitung's other characteristics (like its glossy skin and damp habitat) are definitely more salamander-like.

Not my pic, but here's a lungless salamander catching a fly with its tongue:

G-Money, I laughed so hard at your comments on my nickname, though I am also super flattered. Thank you so much! i'm sure I can't be anywhere close to the best shiny hunters out there, but I appreciate your words nonetheless. I'm so glad you like (but maybe also hate?) my Electrike's nickname as it's probably my favorite too!

I've been encountering in the Pinwheel Forest for a shaking-grass Pokémon (hopefully an elemental monkey!)

My wish came true! I've been hunting this thing since, gosh, probably last August or September, and each encounter took a ton of time since I was biking back and forth outside of the grass, waiting for a patch to shake so I could jump in and see what's what. The elemental monkeys are super rare here (you can SR for them, but I've already played through both Black and White, haha), with each of the three appearing at 10%...in the rare, shaking grass, hahahaha! And a bunch of times I'd bike back and forth for a little while waiting for some grass to shake, and then some Pidove or Cottonee would jump out of the normal grass before I even got to the shaky one and I'd have to start all over again, haha! :laugh-squinted:

I had been dual-hunting with the daily Pearl swarm on my other DS, and when I looked over at my DS with Black in it, I was like, "Oh, that's just a Pansear. Time to ru...waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaait a minute! That color looks a little brighter than normal. And maybe...a bit more orange? I should try catching it to find out and check if it's shiny." And so I chucked a Quick Ball at it, catching it on my first attempt!

It came on encounter #17,887, at 9:56 PM on May 30th, 2020. I named him Narango - a portmanteau of the Spanish words for orange (naranja) and fire (fuego), since it's a Fire Pokémon whose shiny is a bright, super-high-contrast orange, and his hair kind of looks like a flame, "lol." And Narango just sounds like a cool name to me, hahaha!

This is one of my favorite shinies I've gotten, since it's a super rare one that not many people have. Like, how many times have you ever heard of anyone hunting for a shiny Pansear? Or for that matter, how many times have you even heard of or thought about Pansear at all!?? I feel like it's a super obscure Pokémon, and I bet that if you were to chart every Pokémon ever and sort them by how many times their name has ever been said aloud, Pansear would be towards the bottom of the list. No one ever talks about it and it's just kind of there, haha! It's almost like it's a third of a Pokémon, too, since it always gets mentioned and lumped in with Pansage and Panpour. So I totally love this shiny for the same reason I love my shiny Hitmonchan and Heatmor, and it's got a sweet orange color to boot! :pink_nod:

Yes, I named my box before the Optimal Pluralization Debate of 2011. I was converted by the brilliant rhetorical skills and irrefutable logic presented in the arguments of those on Team Shinies, and I switched sides so forcefully that, to this day, I proudly proclaim that the plural form can be none other than -ies. But "lol" I never got around to changing the names of my boxes!

https://i.imgur.com/JBgxhQA.jpg

Here's a regular Pansear. I had to put a non-shiny one next to it in the box and quickly go back and forth so I could fully appreciate the difference, haha! When you look at them back-to-back, the bright orange is really striking!

https://i.imgur.com/eqWPMsK.jpg

Yup, it's a shiny, alright! :laugh-squinted: And it was holding an Oran Berry, too!!!!!!

I absolutely love Weavile to bits, but you gave a good reason for liking Sneasel better. When you get your shiny, def keep it as Sneasel! That card looks absolutely amazing too, and I agree that male Sneasel looks a thousand times cooler than the short-feathered female, haha!

Oh my gosh. icycatelf! I don't know what I was expecting when I clicked that link, but...but...I honestly did not expect to find that you would argue that Dunsparce is actually A MOTH, of all things!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 :disbelief: :pink_disbelief: :disbelief: :bigo: :pink_disbelief: :disbelief: :littleo: :pink_disbelief:

Shame on me. I should've known!!!!! I should've been expecting this, and I should have been ready for it, "lol!" :laugh-squinted:

Of all things! "lol" I have no idea how you did it, but you actually argued that Dunsparce is a moth. And what's more, I've actually bought it!!!! Now you've gone and convinced me that Dunsparce is a moth, too! And I love the part about the triangle thing on its tail actually being an Egyptian pyramid. I never would've bought that, but your pictures with them lined up, along with the pics of the tails swaying in that gif, are just too perfect. That's totally a pyramid!!! And it totally has sphinx colors!!! And it's related to the sphinx moth!!! And it has eyespots!!!! And it's like Caterpie!!!! OMG you've totally turned around my opinion of Dunsparce now, haha. Its body shape is absolutely the Tsuchinoko, too.

I also saw on that blog that you were debating which two of Shedinja, Porygon2, and Flareon to keep for the final two spots of your team. Here's what I have to say about that:

The two coolest Pokémon of that bunch, by far, are Shedinja and Flareon. But there's something else you need to consider, something that's even more important in this case: color contrast!! You're putting your team on that trainer card, and the background is white. If there's any way to change the background of the Pokémon boxes - or better yet, the background of the whole thing - to a light black or dark bluish-gray (like the backgrounds of Quilava's Glaciation or The Johto Elite here on PC), def go with Shedinja and Flareon. But since Shedinja's kinda see-through and being transparent is part of its whole coolness, it looks absolutely horrible on white backgrounds, "lol." I stared at those candidate trainer cards for a good while trying to figure out why Shedinja, the boss of all cool Pokémon, looked so lame and was quite emphatically outclassed by Porygon2, and I realized that it's the background. The hard blue and red of Porygon2 and Flareon look terrific when juxtaposed against a light background, which make them much better fits for your trainer card than Shedinja. :pink_wink:

btw that's so cool about the tongue-launchers!!

I know I included these two in the "trash tier" of nicknames in my last post, but actually, the more I think about them, the more I come to appreciate them. Like, these ones are actually pretty cool! "lol" it's a whole sub-theme of rodent-related humanoid names for the Rattata family. Even though they're just two Pokémon, having two different shinies share a nickname "theme" like that is actually a pretty cool concept that binds them together, amplifying their coolness and making it a whole cohesive shiny party in the Rattata line, haha. Ratthew and Ratasha have earned my respect!

Thanks! :D

Even I'm not fully convinced that Eevee is a cat (hence why I haven't added it to my "RealDex"), and it's honestly only its Shiny (particularly in GSC) that gives me cat vibes since brown is a fairly rare color on cats. However, like I mentioned before, Eevee's creator DID liken it to a fluffy cat or dog-like creature, and some of its evolutions clearly have feline inspiration (especially Espeon and, IMO, Leafeon). So cat, dog, generic fantasy animal... take your pick.

Congrats on the super rare Shiny! I've never been a fan of the elemental monkeys, but someone's gotta show those underappreciated 'mons some love!

:pink_wink:

I only put them on these trainer cards for planning purposes. I'll actually just be putting the menu icons in my sig like I have now. If I do make a trainer card though, I'll probably use this template or create a new one more consistent with Switch graphics.

Flareon definitely feels significant to me, probably more so than Shedinja and Porygon2, but I feel like it got watered down a bit when I got my second Shiny Eevee at "fuller" odds (something I was afraid was going to happen but went for regardless) and I'm slightly put off by the idea of using two Eeveelutions. I definitely want to keep Leafeon though, as it has become one of my absolute favorite Pokémon (tied with Dunsparce and Wartortle).

I agree that Shedinja is the cooler Pokémon here (probably the best Pokémon of all conceptually, IMO) and one I could imagine having IRL, but I'm not sure if it's as significant to me as Porygon2. I hardly ever keep Porygon2 in my lead, unlike Shedinja which I keep as my lead in SoulSilver, but it's one of my oldest Shinies (the oldest I still have, I think), has such amazing colors, and totally took me by surprise when I accidentally SR'd it in Platinum (vs Shedinja, which I was intentionally hunting). I also remember poorly paper-crafting a Porygon2 "puppet" as a kid, so I guess that makes Porygon2 a little nostalgic. (It's a real shame that I can't just swap my Rotom Dex for a Shiny Porygon2 Dex...)

It looked something like this, IIRC. Cylinders obviously equal spheres. :laugh-squinted:

(Also, I never really thought of Shedinja as being transparent...???)

EDIT: After going over this, I think I'm going to go with Flareon and Porygon2. Shedinja can be saved for my IRL/anime team.

EDIT 2: Signature updated, though I'll still probably change my mind again. Dx

Haven’t posted in awhile. Today I got a shiny Gible, it took 581 Dexnav encounters. I forgot to plug my 3ds in yesterday but it wasn’t red so decided to do 1 Dexnav encounter today and it was shiny. I put it to sleep and it caught in 1 ball. I immediately saved after catching it and after saving the 3ds died. Had it broke it of the ball I likely would have failed it. So happy it lived long enough to catch the shiny and save.

I’ve been in a fs hunting a shiny female Combee, have found 3 Pinsir, 3 Volbeat and 1 male Combee. I’m using cute charm so that Combee is more often female when it pops up. Really wish I had a fs with just 2 Pokemon in it though. Also have been horde hunting for 5% Scyther and masuda method hunting for Gastly.

icycatelf June 18th, 2020 6:17 AM

No new Shinies but, hey, Dunsparce is finally in SWSH! I went ahead and finished transferring my favorites, barring Mothim which sadly still doesn't exist in SWSH's coding.

https://i.imgur.com/Oq9Wtja.jpg

Also, your Pokémon can follow you in the Isle of Armor (and hopefully the Crown Tundra coming later this year) and, unlike wild Pokémon, Shinies have their Shiny colors in the overworld! They still stay in their Poké Balls in the main region, though.

https://i.imgur.com/4hNLRZd.jpg

EDIT: Found this guy by chance last night! Funny since I'd been trying for a Shiny Midday Lycanroc on and off (mostly off) pretty much since the release of Sun & Moon. Full-odds, too! (That is, assuming the Isle of Armor doesn't have any unique Shiny mechanics like the Friend Safari.)

https://i.imgur.com/5bDngdX.jpg

Nickname references my old username (KougaWolf), though I'm thinking about changing it to Shugo (the main character from .hack//Legend of the Twilight) since my mind immediately jumped to Ouka (a shewolf from the same series) when I first saw Midday Lycanroc.

OMG Shiny Drowzee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11!!1

"lol" I got a shiny from the Pearl swarm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :pink_boogie:  This is my first time getting a shiny that was actually the marquee swarm event, hahahaha! :laugh-squinted:

Drowzee appeared on encounter #18,703, at 10:50 PM on June 16th, 2020. It was going to be my last encounter of the night before saving and going to bed (and I always like to sneak in one extra encounter again after I save, haha), but this Drowzee was...purple!!! "lol" it's kind of an ugly-colored shiny, but it looks like a zombie and it's totally fitting for Drowzee! "lol" this thing is legit a zombie, and it has both the perfect looks and the perfect color scheme for it, haha! I don't think I've ever seen something like this where the shiny is a drastically different thing than the original - I'd always thought of Drowzee as a sleepy magician's apprentice or something, but shiny Drowzee is totally an undead anteater with latent Psychic powers. It's an awesome concept!

I caught it on the first Dusk Ball attempt, since it was late at night and the ominous dark swirling of the Dusk Ball seems to fit really well with the zombie theme, and it provides a cool contrast to the sickly purple color of shiny Drowzee! :pink_nod:

And I get to use this shiny to bring back Finn the Lumineon!!! :boogie:

Spoiler:
https://i.imgur.com/rTE1adl.jpg

"lol" somewhat of a clown!

https://i.imgur.com/X5PXKZF.jpg

And Modest is my favorite nature, especially for Psychic Pokémon!! :pink_boogie:

I named her Dorena, a mix of the French for "she sleeps" (elle dort) and the Spanish for "she dreams" (sueña).

I totally understood what that picture with the cylinders meant when I first saw it, but then you went and said that the cylinders represent spheres, and now I have absolutely no idea what it means, hahahaha!

And I'm not saying that Shedinja's totally transparent! It's not, like, invisible or anything. What I mean is that if you think of a continuum of opacity, with "totally opaque" on one end of the spectrum and "totally invisible and see-through" on the other, Shedinja is much closer to the transparent portion, without being all the way at the end.

Like, do you know about the test that dude did to see whether light was a wave or a particle? He took a laser and shot it at a wall with two holes in it, and he had another, totally dark wall behind it. That test was checking out whether the light that reached the back wall perfectly lined up with the shape of the holes in the blocking wall (which would indicate a particle nature of light), or whether the light projected on the back wall didn't totally match up with the holes and crept out in a manner that didn't perfectly align with the shape and size of the holes in the anterior blocking wall (which would indicate a wave nature of light).

It turns out that light can exhibit properties of both waves and particles, but for the purposes of the following illustration, let's take the particle theory and assume it's true (it's not, but I'm making a demonstration here!) to test whether various Pokémon could function as "holes" in the anterior blocker. In doing so, we could see whether a Pokémon is solid or not by seeing whether any light would show up on the wall behind it. I think that if you were to do a similar thing as the original experiment and launch a laser beam at various Pokémon (sorry, icycatelf's faves! :pink_love: ), a perfectly opaque and solid Pokémon like Porygon2 would fully block the light and there wouldn't be anything on the wall behind it; a Pokémon like Flareon would block pretty much all of the light and form a silhouette on the wall behind it - but it wouldn't perfectly match the shape of Flareon's body, since Flareon's hair isn't monolithically solid and light would get through in a manner that doesn't completely line up with Flareon's look, as its hair could be blowing in the wind or something, "lol"); and with Shedinja, I'd imagine that most of the light would get through, but not all because Shedinja does have a physical essence that would block certain things from passing through.

Actually, on second thought, this wouldn't tell us a darn thing about the opacity of Shedinja, since whether something can interact with its body or whether it passes right through it is entirely contingent on Wonder Guard! There are certain elements that "recognize" Shedinja and interact with it as if it were a perfectly solid object (fire, bird attacks, etc.), and other things are disaligned on a dimensional plane such that the two elements never interact, and thus can be perfectly superimposed on the exact same Cartesian coordinates. I don't know whether light photons would be an element that could collide with Shedinja or would pass right through it due to failing the Wonder Guard dimensionality alignment, so this little experiment has absolutely no utility in helping us determine the opacity of Shedinja.

All this has done is let me launch a preemptive strike on some of icycatelf's most trusted companions, launching lethal laser beams to give me a quick victory to start off the war! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA! :evil-smirk:

Also, I absolutely love how:

BWAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA "lol" that first pic is THE MOST icycatelf image ever, hahahahhahahaha! :laugh-squinted: Like, if you distilled your essence down and melted the very innermost pure elements of your soul to reforge them into a single image, that would be it!! Leafeon in the center, Dunsparce prominently displayed in the foreground, a beautiful natural environment filled with rare fauna, shiny Wartortle and a Shedinja hanging out, the corpse of Porygon2 lying solemnly in the background, a memorial to honor his lost soul that was so brutally felled by G-Money's nefarious laser beam...

It's often said that a picture is worth a thousand words, but that picture is worth someone's soul! :pink_laugh:

Massive congrats on the shiny Rockruff! Kouga sounds like a dope name, especially since it was your name back when you were a wolf and shiny Lycanroc kind of looks like a wolf. It would make sense seeing as real cicada shells are paper thin, but Shedinja's pitch black interior seems to imply otherwise.

Yep! They can't follow you immediately though (you have to finish some trials first) and a lot of Pokémon are kind of slow so you can't really see them on-screen most of the time without rotating the camera unless you're standing still.

I already changed it to Shugo. It just sounds... prettier? Kouga sounds kind of rugged and might be better suited for the Midnight form. (Shugo means "guardian" and Kouga means "iron fang," IIRC.)

That SWSH screenshot makes me jealous! I don't have a Switch but I hope to get one eventually. We'll see.
I'm pretty happy today though, as I just broke my dry spell of 20 days. Last shinies I got were June 5th (Pothos, the Ultra Wormhole Terrakion-one of my favorite shiny legends, and Slider the Friend safari wartortle- my favorite middle stage evo!) and since then I'd been hunting (same methods) without luck (I did find a friend safari growlithe but I failed it due to not knowing it had take down). Well, tonight, I finally ended my bad luck streak! I got shiny Wormhole Regigigas (so underrated!) and shiny FS Charmeleon! Ironic that I would get a wormhole legend and FS gen 1 starter again

VisionofMilotic June 25th, 2020 7:53 AM

My shiny collection has grown enough that it is time for an update. I have done a lot of shiny trading with several different members of the forum lately to expand my glistening kingdom, some of you I met in this very club, and I just want to say that it has been marvelous getting to know you all, and talking to several of you. I also want to thank G-MONEY for making feel so welcome here.

Earlier this June I did a version exclusive trade with The Alolan Naturalist. He has pokemon X, and was at the Trade Corner offering the choice of a shiny clauncher/clawitzer or remoraid in exchange for a shiny skrelp, which can be chain fished easily in Y. I have Pokemon Y and had some extra skrelp from my shiny horsea/seadra hunt, and took him up on the deal. I really enjoyed doing this trade. Clauncher looks really nice in red. I call him Sebastian like the loveable worrywart crab from The Little Mermaid.

We took the opportunity to visit eachother's friend safari since it was XY, and we were online at the same time. I was delighted to find a new flying safari. I'm currently on the hunt for a shiny Fletchinder. It's such a magnificent dark orange to me, and it becomes a stunning scarlet when it evolves into Talonflame. One of my favorite shinies. I really hope I can catch one that is shiny and with gale wings! I would take almost any nature.

So far I ran into and caught 2 shiny spearow while looking for Fletchling. While not the Pokemon I was hoping for, a shiny is still a shiny. This has happened to me a few times on friend Safari, encountering and capturing different shiny pokemon than I was shooting for, but eventually this lady bird gets her worm.

I also recently traded away some extra shiny gible, shiny noibat and shiny goomy of mine, all to one user who loves dragons as much as I do, DragonKing48. One was given away no strings attached as part of an event that I hosted with Firebolt this spring called The Dragon Share for the club Dragon Ascent. He and I collaborated to bring members of the club lots of adorable shiny dragons like Gible, Trapinch, Charmander, Kingdra. It was a lot of fun!

I traded also some pokemon that were not part of the giveaway with DragonKing in exchange for a handsome Shiny Eevee and Shiny Bulbasaur.

Now I will be able to have a shiny Umbreon as well as a shiny Sylveon from the Eevee I already had, and feel contented by that. Those are the Eeveelutions with the shiny color schemes that appeal to me most. While Espeon is probably my favorite Eeveelution, I think it's actually much more beautiful in its normal form than Shiny. I feel the same way about Shiny Dragonite, and think that particular green isn't as flattering as the original color scheme. Now if it was the pale, almost iridescent green they have in Stadium 2 that would be a whole different story!

https://i.postimg.cc/nLSTZCjS/hqdefault.jpg

One of my other escapades includes a hunt for a shiny pidgey in totally different flying friend safari back last month, which I caught and saved especially for a friend's birthday this June. They like first stage evolution flying pokemon like Rowlet and Fletchling, and Pidgey is one of them. I successfully synchronized the timid nature I was hoping for, just in case he should ever evolve it. A golden mega pidgeot with a purple plume is nothing to sneeze at. Even though I did not keep this pokemon, I still want to have a record of a hunt well-done.

That is not the end of my good fortune. I was graced with the shiny event Yvetal compliments of Fafrir's birthday giveaway for dark pokemon over at Lunar Eclipse. I previously had the shiny event Zygarde in my collection. I missed the shiny Xerneas event though, so I figured maybe I ought to hunt shiny Xerneas in my copy of Ultra Sun to complete the aura trio. I have never shiny hunted legendaries in gen 7 before, so any tips from club members about wormhole shiny hunting would be appreciated.

I completed my long, drawn-out hunt for the Unova variant of Darmanitan on the mirage spots in Oras back in may as well. This was not my first attempt going after one in gen 6. This shiny is my prodigal son. It has been on my list to catch all year, but I had to bide my time since this pokemon is only available on mirage spots, which are generated daily randomly.

I first tried to catch one back in March on the mirage island north of route 113, I spent several hours there, and after hundreds of encounters I spawned a shiny larvesta instead of Darmanitan. I caught the larvesta. Why not? But unfortunately, my luck ran out after that. I spent my days there until I ran out of repels, which I need for this method and never found a shiny damanitan. Since I got shiny larvesta, I didn't consider it a total loss, and told myself I would catch shiny darmanitan next time--which I did.

It took a long time for an mirage spot with Darmanitan to spawn again though. I finally got my wish though. It was the mirage mountain I think east of 125. I was kinda worried I would bump into a shiny Magby first, but this time I did get the Damanitan. I was really hoping it would have it's hidden ability because it's shiny color is subtly different in Zen mode as well, but no such luc this time. I got lucky and got a shiny Vulpix this way on one of my firsts hunts, so I thought I might get doubly lucky again. Since I don't think the Damanitan outside of Relic Castle in BW shiny-locked though, so I could one day sr for a shiny Darmanitan in Pokemon Black because the one post game always carries it's dream world ability I believe, and have 2 darmanitan. For now this one will do though.

Last but not least, I gifted a shiny hidden ability Swablu to a dear friend. And she surprised me with a shiny Petilil in return. I hadn't expected anything in return, but am grateful and will raise this precious grass pokemon into a lovely shiny Lilligant.

Congrats!

I adore moths, so I'll probably try for this one later too. I think I'm going to try getting the elusive Sport Ball first, though. It would be really cool to have the sun moth in the same kind of ball used for Johto's Bug-Catching Contest.

Slowking has a great shiny! Slowbro does as well but I just love the blue around the neck part of Slowking so much. It really stands out.

This has happened to me a few times on friend Safari, encountering and capturing different shiny pokemon than I was shooting for, but eventually this lady bird gets her worm.

I was very happy to get a skrelp too! Good luck hunting in my safari (I do hope you get fletchinder soon, I really love shiny talonflame as well!), I actually hunted in yours and got my target on the first go! a great shiny wartortle, who is also probably my favorite middle stage evo for any starter!

As for the gen7 SR hunt, my advice, other than the synchronize trick to try and get a good nature, is to use the rotocatch bonus that you can get from the rotomdex roto-loto. It makes your pokeballs more effective, thereby lowering the chance of a failed shiny, especially if you'd like to catch them in an apriball or some other ball you're running out of.

Hey everyone. Been a while since posting, and this will be my last post here. And that's because I'm finished. Today, I hatched my third shiny Jangmo-o, which complete the entire evolution line. It was also the final pokemon I needed for my Gen 7 shinydex. I have gotten every shiny pokemon that I can legitimately obtain. This is my retirement from shiny hunting. It was fun while it lasted.

I don't usually hang around here because I'm more of a "Scavenger ", I don't do hunts and SRS and all, but if I can find them and obtain them if it's something I like ...I'll jump on it...I just obtained this ridiculous rarity which I think is pretty cool lol.

Go ahead ...try to figure out how.

Hey guys. It has been a bit since my last post here. Haven't had much luck with shinies recently. I was hunting for a Shiny Noctowl and Hatching Eggs for Shiny Riolu without any luck in Shield.

However, I did run across this little fellow.

Was on my way to Digging Pa to turn in some watts and it popped up right under me on Isle of Armor. First Shiny caught within Shield other than Zeraora of course.

I think I am going to take a break from Shiny Hunting in Shield and work on trying to get Eon Isle Shiny Latias in Omega Ruby after a very long break from it.

Yesterday I continued my masuda method hunt for Gastly that I began in Jun 2019 and finally found my shiny in 533 eggs total. I then switched my Japanese Ditto and American Haunter with a Japanese Meowth and American Ditto and hatched a shiny Meowth in 4 eggs.

Was pretty surprised, I don’t have shiny charm so I believe odds are 1/612 or something.

It has been a while since I've posted here, but I finally remember to do so. I know it's already summer, but back in April and May I started with my themed shiny team hunting. My first theme was "Spring Morning". So, here it is:
https://i.imgur.com/BMwRtoM.pnghttps://i.imgur.com/2OZYm75.png
Josephine the Cherrim was the very first Pokémon that came on my mind when I decided the theme. Funnily enough, I got it few days after me and my girlfriend went cherry picking.

https://i.imgur.com/smgOKeq.png
Another Pokémon I went with was Petilil named Claire, literally a Bulb Pokémon. I also wanted Lilligant, but apparently I had no Sun Stone on my save. But I would say Petilil fits the theme more.

https://i.imgur.com/NAdXKd0.png
Clotilde the Durant mind seems like a really weird choice for Spring Morning. But while the last two Pokémon were mostly from the "Spring" part, Durant fits the "Morning" part. My room is directly next to a school workshop and each year in early spring, there is an ant infestation that sometimes gets to my room and I would usually see few ants each morning. So I have ants associated with spring mornings.

https://i.imgur.com/vqqsVGN.pnghttps://i.imgur.com/z5ZVBTg.pnghttps://i.imgur.com/r1tfWMM.png
Fanfan the Venusaur was my next choice, since Bulbasaur line is also known as Seed Pokémon. The closed bulb on Bulbasaur's back kinda looks like a beginning of a new life, the same way as Spring and morning do. I originally went with just Bulbasaur, but when I realized I won't be able to post the team here and "officially" check it as finished, I just evolved him all the way to Venusaur, since all the flowers are already blooming now. Also interesting fact: Fanfan's mother is Lena, Venusaur that I used in my very first Nuzlocke in Pokémon X back in 2015, who survived all the way from Lumiose City and was the one who beat Diantha's Mega Gardevoir.

https://i.imgur.com/PGrx9aI.pnghttps://i.imgur.com/6Dat4S1.png
Benedict the Sawsbuck is Pokémon with a form that is literally called Spring Form. To be honest, I don't have any other reason why I hunt it.

https://i.imgur.com/P1TPMSa.pnghttps://i.imgur.com/HG3tlAe.png
Final Pokémon in this themed team was supposed to be Rodolphe the Beautifly, but I ended up with Dustox, which fits more to autumn team. Nevertheless Wurmple and Cascoon are still bugs that fit perfectly to the theme. But at least I have another fun fact: Rodolphe's dad is a Dustox that I used in my very first playthrough of Sapphire back in circa 2009. Well, not exactly the same, since I have to way of getting it from Game Boy Micro, but I build this Dustox in Alpha Sapphire exactly after the original.

So I have to say that I had really good time trying to figure out which Pokémon fits the theme. I also tried not to use many Pokémon from one generation, even though half of this team is made out of Gen V Pokémon. So, next I was thinking about doing some teams based on a various holiday activities or destinations.

I love themed hunts and this is a great one! Love how it's basically a grass and bug team. I was literally thinking earlier (before seeing this) of doing a summer themed hunt. Are you gonna do one? It'd be interesting to see what we each come up with. In the meantime I'm working on another theme that I will post soon (but that has a lot of overlap with yours, also.)
I wanted to post the highlights of this weekend. I hunted them simultaneously and they both took longer than a day (I was at all almost all saturday), both super long hunts.
Jet the Ultra Wormhole Latias (love the gold and green eyes) was a rollercoaster because I actually failed it (struggled to death), was super disappointed, but decided to dust myself off despite my discouragement and in around 185 I reclaimed it! It was an easy capture the second time around, thankfully, because that was my worst shiny fail to date.
And then the next morning Cassandra the Braixen decided to shine in a friend safari, in gen 6 where I don't have the shiny charm. I was pretty lucky with this one, since it ended up being both female and with its hidden ability. I named her after the oracle in the Illiad

Meet my perfect Shiny Skarmory with "outstanding potential" an impish nature and the ability sturdy. I named him Destiny as a reference to the precious Green Destiny sword from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. I thought it fitting with Skarmory being a steel Pokemon, and having green tips on his wings instead of red. His cry is bird-like, yet also makes a clashing sound like unsheathing a sword. Then it has the nice rusted color as a shiny like an ancient metal that has weathered battle. You might not be able to tell that it's a slightly different silver unless it's right in front of you, because it's subtle, and the camera doesn't entirely do it justice.

Anyway, I love him! I can't wait to send this guy into battle. I think shiny Skarmory is underrated.

I plan on building few teams themed around various holiday activities or destinations. First one I started working about is "Beach bailout". I think I'll hunt Alolan Raichu, Snorlax, Corsola, Sharpedo, some baby Pokémon, probably Elekid and Crabominable. Then I plan on doing a team for hiking/biking and other inland outdoor activities.

Nice! I won't share my hunting list to make it more fun but mine will be completely different. I'll get started on it as soon as I'm done with my current themed hunt, which i'llpost about soon hehe. I like your idea and I'm especially looking forward to your hiking theme because that's so open to interpretation!

I have had some crazy luck this weekend! on friday I caught a Palkia that I had been hunting basically all week, and then like an hour later I caught Kyogre! Neither are my favorite shinies ever but I guess I kind of like that Kyogre, king of the water types, does the same "pink/purple" shiny thing as, like, every water type basically.
I own ultra moon and alpha sapphire, and most of the version exclusive legendaries I have access to are repeated in both games, with the notable exception of palkia/dialga (also I can get Raikou in AS but not UM) so I thought I'd try to get dialga. I don't have the shiny charm in AS though, and it's a tedious hunt because you have to soar everytime (and go through that animation) so after a day and a half of hunting I was really second guessing myself, thinking I was gonna spend so much time in this hunt and maybe it wasn't worth it. I'm so glad I kept going because I got Dialga, my first full odd shiny legend, obviously way under odds! Then just a while ago I got Yveltal, which I was hunting at the same time as Dialga on a borrowed DS. It's so beautful!! I don't know why it had never caught my attention too much, because it is striking!
So here are the big bois with their rhyming names

So it had been a while since I did a themed hunt (the legendary hunts were somewhat unplanned, though very, very welcome ahah). Buzzing their way through summer, here's my july-wide bug themed hunt complete with my signature terrible editing! I was inspired by how buggy the summer is, and especially by the millions of mosquitoes who are constantly bugging me, pun intended. Having recently discovered the joys of Friend Safari, I used it to get Apis the disappointingly male combee, Hestia the Larvesta (so happy!!), Annona the beautifly , Noni the cascoon , Actias the dustox . I also horde hunted Myrmetal the durant, and dexnaved Purmple the Wurmple and Viridis the Kakuna(all gen 5 shinies are without the charm) and then I SOS hunted Aporia the caterpie, Cordy the Paras and Denkimushi the grubin.

This past Summer I started up my legendary shiny hunts in Ultra Sun and Alpha Sapphire. My eventual goal is a living shiny dex with everyone transferred to Home/SwSh, but for now I'm just having fun with getting into shiny hunts for the first time in a while. Starting in Ultra Sun with a shiny charm, my first legend hunt was a doozy, probably took close to 3,000 SR's and almost made me give up several times, but I finally got a shiny Reshiram. I went into the second hunt with a bit more confidence, and also started using synchronize to try to get a preferred nature, and ended up spotting shiny Virizion 151 SR's in, with the Jolly nature I wanted as well. The third hunt that I successfully completed ended up being Terrakion, which shattered all expectations when I found the alternate palette after only 17 resets! Only downside is that I wasn't as lucky with the nature for this mon.

I'm still working on Cobalion right now but hope to have fruitful results soon. In the meantime, I completed the national dex for Alpha Sapphire and restarted the game so that I could get to the legendaries at the end with a shiny charm in hand. It was going smoothly until I realized that you are forced to encounter Latias after the 5th badge, but can't collect the shiny charm until much later. And seeing as how this is my only opportunity to get shiny Latias since I don't have Omega Ruby, I've started the agonizing task of shiny hunting Latias through a 5 minute cutscene at full odds. Fully expecting this hunt could take months, but I look forward to (eventually) showing off the fruit of my labor here. :P
