Tarro57 October 28th, 2015 5:59 PM

And to end this fabulous day of shinies, I finally got my shiny starter in my Soul Silver! After a week of SRing, shiny Totodile decided to give me his presence! Now, to continue with my badge quest!

P.S. Feraligatr is my favorite Pokemon, so I'm pretty much freaking out right now :D

Congrats! Always nice to get starters! I got one today as well, but not as special :)

Snagged off the GTS today a shiny: Metapod, Nidoking, Mr. Mime, Totodile, Politoed, Umbreon, Pupiter

Dragonite711 October 29th, 2015 6:18 AM

Hey guys today I just caught my first shiny. It is a golduck :)

Lrachelr5 October 29th, 2015 6:22 AM

Hey congrats on the shiny golduck!

Caite-chan October 29th, 2015 6:26 AM

I remember catching my first shiny Pokemon other than Red Gyarados...LOL!

My first shiny was shiny Boldore in the Friend Safari on X.

Welcome to the SHC, Spoonacross!! That's awesome, having two shiny Heracross - what a terrific shiny to start off with!

Which water starter are you going for first?

OMG "LOL"OLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHERE DID TIER V GO!??????????? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I can't believe no one noticed that until just now, haha. I have no idea what we'll do about that. Maybe Tier V got lost in next year? "lol" I guess anyone who completes the first four deserves to have an extra tier as a reward!!

Congrats on completing two tiers! I don't think I expected to see Poison-types for a completed tier, haha.

Although, going by the strict rules of the Quest your completed tiers technically don't count yet since you haven't done the ones before them, but you still have over two months to complete those ones!

*searches the SHC basement for Tier V*

Edit: Decided to chain for a Budew for the Tier 1 challenge, ended up getting a patch at a chain of 8!!! It broke later due to aWurmple, but hey, I got one :)

Congrats on those shinies, Tarro!!! The Quest normally doesn't allow chained shinies, but since you got your shiny Budew on such a low chain (8 is amazing!!), I think we'll count it!! :) Getting a shiny on a chain of less than 20 is pretty much as rare as finding a shiny in the wild, so you're good to go for the first part of Tier I!

And way to go on the shiny Totodile!!! He also absolutely counts for Tier I; you've made great progress already!!! Congrats on getting your favorite Pokemon to shine and best of luck on the next step of your Badge Quest!

Woot, congrats on your first shiny!!!! Any plans for your next hunt, or are you going to train your cool new Golduck first?

Dragonite711 October 29th, 2015 2:02 PM

Well I don't really know how to hunt a specific Pokemon so I'm probably just going to start searching for a new shiny! I'm just excited that I have gotten a shiny so fast but,I'm not expecting the same result in the future anyway have a great day!

Velveteenwolf October 30th, 2015 9:24 AM

Since I last posted, I now have a shiny Octiliry, frogadire, Wartortle, and a shiny Blastoise and Greninja that I evolved from my second shiny frogadire and Wartortle. All from friend safari. Now to caterpie or hatching a Charmander, squirtle and Bulbasaur to complete my 1st gen starter set. More than likely caterpie cause its easier.

Paulthagerous October 30th, 2015 6:09 PM

have since added to my shinies from the GTS: Mamoswine, Samurott, Amoonguss, Sylveon

Yeah, I was counting them up and thought "Huh. Where did it go...."

The zubats/golbats are a bit meh, but I really wanted a NidoranM and a NidoranF and with a 4/5 chance for M and 1/5 chance for F I realised I might get some doubles of the M :)

Didn't realise had to complete in order lol, but shouldn't be too hard to at least get the first 6 done. 2 months to get 5 legends is the one that worries me! But I shall try!

Thanks! I think probably Froakie, black Greninja is so badass! I did some chain fishing for the first time the other day and whilst no luck so far I did discover that fishing is not as much of a drag as I had thought!

Paulthagerous November 3rd, 2015 1:49 AM

So turns out my Torchic was actually this year - 2nd January - so that counts for the quest :)

Plus, managed to snag this guy just now so 1/5 done!

Congrats to Pokemon Gaming Central for acquiring the greatest thread on PC! You guys have just won the lottery with that one, haha.

Congrats to Runasutaru for winning the SPOOKY CHALLENGE GLOBAL LEADERBOARD!!! Her three shinies not only placed her as the SPOOKY CHALLENGE GLOBAL LEADERBOARD!!! champion, but it also completed the Monthly Quest!

And we now would like to invite everyone - including all of our new friends from Pokemon Gaming Central - to participate in...

The November Monthly Quest: The Ancient Ruins!!

To complete this Quest, you must find three shinies:

1) A Dragon-type shiny!
2) A Fairy-type shiny!
3) A Psychic-type shiny!

Completing this Quest within the time allotted will give your region official recognition of having ancient ruins!!!!!!! A tremendous boost to any civilization, these give your people the ability to benefit from past wealth, knowledge, and shinies! The spirits contained therein will guide your region to ever greater heights!

Chained and Safari Pokemon are not eligible to count for the Quest.

The contest lasts until midnight EST on December 10th, 2015.

Good luck and have fun!

Welcome to the Shiny Hunters Club, Achromatic!! Those are two cool shinies you've got there! Which one do you think you're going to go for next?

Dreg November 10th, 2015 10:15 AM

By chained pokemon you also mean no dexnav or pokeradar? just so I understand what it means. I might as well take part even though I don't have a region.

I know I haven't updated with my findings, but recently I've had a shiny shuppet, 3 shiny zubats, shiny gastly from hatching, shiny illumise (pokeradar) and shiny audino (dexnav).

Good job! I find Hordes a good way (with shiny charm) - pretty reasonable success rate (as far as shinies go anyway!)

AFAIK, dexnav and pokeradar are both counted as chaining

After coming up empty in Hoard Battles and the Friend Safari, I went back to the trusty and heavily Shiny giving Kalos Route 8. Half an hour later...

Shiny Staryu - I really like the colour scheme on this one. The white body and the sky blue gem make for an excellent Shiny. Staryu is one of my favourite Shinys. I have nicknamed it 'Misty'.

I am not a huge fan of Shiny Starmie so may take a leaf out of Ash Ketchum's book and leave it unevolved.

Next Hunt - Wailmer in Alpha Sapphire

Congrats! Staryu is very cool, and I would also have a dilemma as to whether or not to evolve it!

Managed to get this, 2750is SRs but finally:

I caught a shiny Remoraid but it had the wrong ability so tried again and got the one I wanted so evolved it into Octillery. I am thrilled with him, called him Ernie, and he makes me smile every time I send him out! With his help I caught a shiny Magikarp!

@Paulthagerous

Congratulations on the Shiny Virizion. It is a great colour but I am unsure if I will ever have the patience to soft-reset for a legendary particularly as I only have the Shiny Charm on X. I remember reading once someone spent 3 years soft-resetting for a Shiny Mewtwo which he got in the end.

@Spoonacross

Congratulations on the Chain Fished Shinys. I have a Shiny Remoraid with the right ability too but I haven't evolved him as I am not a fan of the Strange Green Colour of the Shiny. I use a regular red Suction Cups Octillery to help me chain fish.

Here are my latest Shinys on X.

Shiny Male Alomonola (Fandango) - Took about 40 minutes of fishing to get this guy. A Female would have fitted better but the Purple with Green Eyeshadow is a nice Shiny.

Shiny Male Relicanth (Brock) - Caught at the ever reliable Kalos Route 8. Only took about 10 minutes of fishing. The Green and the paler brown is a nice Shiny.

Shiny Male Luvdisc - Amazingly considering how much chain fishing I have done this is my first Shiny Luvdisc. Took about 10 minutes of fishing on Kalos Route 8. The Yellow is a nice contrast to the usual Pink. That's three male chain fished Shinys on the bounce.

Shiny Female Gothitelle - Grabbed off the GTS. I really like the somewhat spooky Purple and Pink colour scheme it has. It has its Hidden Ability Shadow Tag too. Gothitelle is one of my favourite Pokemon and I am delighted to finally pick up its Shiny. :)

Next up - Over to Alpha Sapphire to find a Shiny Wailmer.

Nice! I like your nicknames!

I just got a shiny Relicanth too, the colours are so nice!

Now I'm trying for a Wobbuffet by DexNaving in the Safari Zone in AS, hoping for a female!

With soft resetting, do you think it can harm the 3DS if done over and over? That kinda worries me a bit...

I nickname all Shinys I find myself that I am going to use. :)

Shiny Relicanth is a great Shiny. According to Bulbapedia the colours of Shiny Relicanth are based on the real life Indian Coelcanth.

I found a Shiny Abra (Nostradamus - Now Shiny Alakazam) in Friend Safari once but am yet to find anything by DexNaving.

I don't think Soft Resetting can harm a 3DS as long as you are not too heavy handed. However I have never tried Soft-Resetting for a Legendary.

Nice, that's quite a few new ones! While 2750 sounds like a really big number, that is 1/6 the odds of SRing a shiny pre shiny charm in the older generations. Some people were over 30k to get what they wanted!

I vaguely remember TheShinyEevee was doing Random Encounters to find something and went well past the 30k mark. S/he got a few other shinies, but kept going for the target one :)

My old DSi would have approx 20k-30k SRs on it and is fine, my 2 (2nd hand when I bought them) DS lites would be around 10k SRs each and all 3 are still fine. My 3DS XL is probably around 15-20k SRs at this stage, my New 3DS 5kish and they are both fine too.

So in my experience it doesn't seem to cause any issues. And that is on top of a LOT of play time as well.

Anyway, managed to snag another one. This took 500ish SRs again, not too bad when I am using 2 3DSs. I figure (depending on the target) I can do around 120-180 per hour which really isn't that bad. Around 10 hours average. If you had of told people that 2 generations ago they would have been fuming :)

An average 10 hours for a Shiny Legendary is not bad considering how long it can take. I am not big on Legendary Pokémon in general but do have a Shiny Kyogre that I obtained in a trade. :)

My Shiny Progress - My X game has gone Shiny Crazy:
Spoiler:

Shiny Female Numel - Found on the GTS for a mere Buizel. She is now a Shiny Camerupt and whilst training her up in a Friend Safari I found...

Shiny Male Cacturne (Cactanium) - I hardly ever get Shiny Pokémon in Friend Safari so this was a very nice surprise. The Brown matches it being the 'Scarecrow Pokemon'. One of my favourite Dark Types too.

Shiny Male Oddish - Found on the GTS for a spare Legendary I had. One of my favourite Grass-type Pokémon and now a Shiny Green Vileplume.

Shiny Illumise - Found on GTS for a female Pumpkaboo. Bad Pokemon, Great Shiny. The blonde hair and colour scheme looks great.

Shiny Female Wingull (Greenwing) - Found after an hour of horde hunting around a few spots and my first horde in Azure Bay. Now a Green Pelipper.

Shiny Male Eevee - Found on the GTS for a Smoochum. What should I evolve him into. He is my third Shiny Eevee.

Shiny Male Ivysaur and Shiny Male Bulbasaur l - Found for my spare Articuno and a Whimsicott respectively. The Ivysaur is now a Venusaur with Mega Stone and I have always wanted a Shiny Bulbasaur. It is great fun to play with in Pokémon Amie. :)

Shiny Male Chespin - Found on the GTS for a Male Tyrunt. Great Shiny, another Grass Starter and I plan to evolve it all the way to Chesnaught soon.

Shiny Male Octillery (Emperor) - Found near Shalour City with a Super Rod chain of ten. I am not sure about the Green colour but it does have suction Cups as it's ability making it a suitable partner for Chain Fishing.
