Ooh, a shiny Zorua would be very cool indeed, hope you catch one soon!

I'm currently SRing for a shiny Mudkip in Omega Ruby, it's the first time I've had the patience to try this method! Hope it pays off!

That's awesome, Shiny Mudkip is a great looking shiny! I have never really tried Soft Resetting or Horde Hunting for shinies yet, although I do plan to try them!

I also continued my Route 116 hunt in Ruby for the first time since February 1st, 2011, "lol." I'm going after Nincada, so my odds are actually 1/40960! I certainly don't mind though, as the other Pokemon available are pretty cool. I'm going to keep hunting there until I get a shiny Nincada, even if it means that I get duplicates. It's probably faster to see 40,960 wild Pokemon than it would be to breed 8,192 Nincada, although I might change my mind if I end up getting shiny Whismur, Zigzagoon, Taillow, and Skitty!

I'm continuing my Nincada hunt after nearly 15 months because not only does it count for my Ghost Quest, but you get two shinies in one!!

The hunt for Nincada is reinvigorated. The coolness of shiny Nincada is affirmed.

I started up Ruby when my DS was about to run out and figured I'd try to get around the internal battery problem by just leaving it running, and BAM! A shiny Zigzagoon about an hour and a half in. I'm going to keep on hunting on Route 116 for another shiny (without turning off the game) to see if I can try for Nincada (or Taillow/Whismur/Skitty). I had only done 113 encounters today, but the shiny Zig came on number 2337 overall (I started the hunt in February 2011 on my second post in the club!).

This is my first Ruby shiny in almost 7 years, haha.

I finally enter the lair of the Boss shiny, shiny Nincada. But alas! The Boss is crafty, and his henchman, shiny Zigzagoon, assaults me instead. I am able to capture this foe, but it sets my hunt back. By this point, 2337 Pokemon have been seen whilst in pursuit of shiny Nincada.

I'm going to leave the game running and see if I can try for that Nincada, even at a pretty high risk of another Zig or Taillow. Doing 2000 encounters in Hoenn is faster than like 200 eggs in Unova, so I'm going to push my luck (I've already had 3 times as many shinies this month as I had all last year and the first 11 months of this year put together, so even if I don't get another shiny for years, I really can't complain, haha!) and see if I can get another shiny out of Route 116 before my game turns off.

I had a ton of Premier Balls, so I caught it in a Premier Ball. I always wanted to catch a shiny in one, since it almost seems like they were made for shinies, being "A rare BALL made in commemoration of some event."

I encounter another minion of the Boss; this time, my opponent is a shiny Taillow. I capture this new shiny, but the Boss Nincada still eludes me. By this point, 4637 Pokemon have been encountered in pursuit of Nincada.

I've moved on to the exterior of Mt. Pyre now, as shiny Duskull can be found there (and there's no chance of a duplicate shiny), whereas I could always try this same thing again with Emerald if need be to go for Nincada again. Mt. Pyre's the site of my first successful hunt (Shuppet), so I know the luck is there waiting to be found! :)

To my astonishment, the Boss Nincada has an entire army of shiny Zigzagoon! I capture this one as well, and I get the captured former-Nincada-employee to give me some vital information. I obtain the whereabouts of a shiny Duskull, so I momentarily cease my pursuit of Boss Nincada.

By now, 9670 Pokemon have been seen.

I track the Boss Nincada to the Kalos region, as he had abandoned his Hoenn base after that Zigzagoon surrendered his location.

Another shiny for my Ghost Quest!

The Boss Nincada realizes that I'm on to him, and he abandons his Kalos base of operations. Before I can capture him, however, he throws a bodyguard at me - a shiny Honedge, who apparently joined the ranks of his criminal organization in Kalos. I capture the Honedge, who informs me that the Kalos base was only to throw me off the trail - Boss Nincada had remained in Hoenn all along!!

I had a chance to leave my DS running for 10 hours with Emerald in it sooner than I had expected, so I've continued what will hopefully be the last Phase of my Nincada hunt on Route 116. I found shiny Spheal back in 2011 after about 9 hours of having Emerald on, so leaving it in and charging should avoid any RNG clones. I had gotten 2 shiny Zigzagoon and a shiny Taillow doing this earlier in Ruby, but fortunately (and to my pleasant surprise!), Poochyena is on the Route instead of Zigzagoon in Emerald!! No more shiny Zigs for me, haha. The route also has Abra, so I went out and caught a Trapinch with Arena Trap in case a shiny Abra tries to Teleport away.

Having failed thus far to attain the Boss's whereabouts, I switch out the red gem I had been carrying for my lucky green one. Also, the Boss Nincada had somehow discovered that a shiny Zigzagoon had talked, and he immediately banished all Zigzagoon from his army. To taunt me, he replaced them all with Poochyena. I believe this was done with the sole intention of reminding me of my encounter with the uncatchable shiny Poochyena back when I was hunting the shiny Treecko. This affirms my conviction that the Boss Nincada is pure evil and must be brought to justice.

He also attempts to trip me up with Abra bodyguards to teleport in between me and the Boss, adding further difficulty to the hunt. But I'm a shiny hunter! I come prepared, bringing along a Trapinch to trap any unforseen henchmen ambushes.

"lol" Phase 4 of my Route 116 has concluded, with another shiny Taillow as the result! It came on encounter #16153. My luck's really been correcting itself for last year's shiny spree, haha, but I'm really glad that it's doing so on Emerald where the encounters are pretty quick. This one came after 15 days, 10 hours, and 25 minutes of leaving the game on, so I could try this again (hopefully I won't have to, haha) since I didn't find any shiny frames between the first day and the fifteenth, "lol."

On this Nincada hunt, I've now gotten two shiny Zigs and two shiny Taillow, "lol."

On to Phase 5!

A fourth bodyguard is captured. This marks 25,823 bodyguards that the Boss has thrown at me. Just how much power does he have!?

A third SHINY TAILLOW!!!!!!!!

I'm convinced that shiny Nincada is the boss of Route 116, and you have to defeat all of his bodyguards to get to him.

I'm glad that Taillow waited until #20767 to arrive, since that's a pretty cool number, haha. I wonder how many shinies the Nincada king has in his army? I have to pass all of these trials to prove that I'm worthy to face the shiny who yields two, haha!

This Taillow has a different level and nature than my other Emerald Taillow, and I caught it on a different day (this one appeared only ten days after leaving the game on, "lol"), so I know for sure it's not an RNG duplicate.

The hunt continues!

25 Route 116 encounters

The Boss keeps throwing birds at me. Another green Taillow is spotted. Since I began tracking the Boss, 46,590 Pokemon have been seen. All of Route 116 is against me, and I'm now well past the odds. That Boss sure is elusive...

SHINY TAILLOW!!!!!! This is the third one, haha. That Boss Nincada really is throwing all of his henchmen at me! {XD} This Taillow came on encounter #7047, 2 months and 18 days after turning the game on. Now to vanquish the remaining shiny Taillow bodyguards and get to the Shiny Boss Nincada!

I'm at 999:59 in Emerald now, haha!

The Boss throws yet another shiny Taillow at me! With an entire team in hand, I am finally ready to face the Boss. My two shiny Zigzagoon and four (!!!!) shiny Taillow all resent working for the power-hungry criminal of Route 116. It is time to bring him to justice. With four Taillow to carry me, I am able to fly high above the Route and spot his lair! Having now encountered 53,637 Pokemon in search of this menace, I am finally able to locate his lair, deep within the confines of the haunted Route 116.

January 6th, 2016:

I enter the lair of the Boss, expecting to meet a swarm of henchmen to oppose me. Another 2665 Pokemon challenge me to combat in the Lair of the Boss, but I am resolute in my mission - not letting them slow me down, I run from each. By now, the hunt has lasted for 1,800 days. I have encountered 56,302 Pokemon. I will not give up! At 4:32 PM, I again run into the tall grass, inciting encounter #56,303.

This Nincada is gold. I wonder-OMG IT'S SHINY NINCADA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE SHINY OF GOLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE SHINY OF TWO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THERE SHE IS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At level 7, she runs Route 116!!!!!!!!!!!! This bug is made entirely of gold - no wonder she could afford 56,000 bodyguards!!!!!! As an event most certainly worth commemorating, I launch at her a Premier Ball. On the very first attempt, this criminal is brought to justice. Shiny Boss Nincada will be controlling Route 116 no more.

Citizens: you are now free to hunt all throughout Hoenn!! The intimidation perpetuated by organized Boss Nincada crime shall restrain you no longer. May you freely hunt for the amazing Hoenn shinies! May you find Gulpin, and Swablu, and all of the other shinies you seek!

As for why the Nincada sent all those henchmen after me instead of fighting me herself?

Spoiler:
She's got a Lax nature. {XD}

May these images of this glorious occasion be postered up on the walls of the SHC!!

The 2016 Yearly Quest: The Shinies are Teeming!!!!

It's 2016, and the shinies are teeming! They're also teaming, creating teams to band together!

Create as many of the following teams as possible!
  • Six Grass-type shinies!
  • Six Fire-type shinies!
  • Six Water-type shinies!
  • Six Electric-type shinies!
  • Six Normal-type shinies!
  • Six Fighting-type shinies!
  • Six Ground-type shinies!
  • Six Rock-type shinies!
  • Six Ghost-type shinies!
  • Six Poison-type shinies!
  • Six Flying-type shinies!
  • Six Bug-type shinies!
  • Six Ice-type shinies!
  • Six Psychic-type shinies!
  • Six Dark-type shinies!
  • Six Steel-type shinies!
  • Six Dragon-type shinies!
  • Six Fairy-type shinies!
  • Six shinies from Gen I!
  • Six shinies from Gen II!
  • Six shinies from Gen III!
  • Six shinies from Gen IV!
  • Six shinies from Gen V!
  • Six shinies from Gen VI!
  • Six starters!
  • Six legendaries!
  • Six Pokemon whose names begin with the same letter!
The Yearly Quest lasts until 11:59 PM on December 31st, 2016. Chained and Friend Safaried Pokemon are not allowed, but they can be counted in a parallel "Chained/Friend Safaried Yearly Quest."

Each Pokemon can only count for one team, but you get to pick which team it counts for at the end of the year. Each team may only be completed once.

In addition, there is also a 2016 Challenge: Find Pokemon whose first letters spell out T-W-E-N-T-Y-S-I-X-T-E-E-N! You must find 13 Pokemon to complete this challenge. One Pokemon can only count for one letter (you get to pick which one), but its evolutions could count instead if you so choose. For example, shiny Cyndaquil could count for one of C, Q, or T. Unown count for their letter.

Completing the 2016 Challenge counts as three teams towards the Yearly Quest.

Instead of Monthly Quests, 2016 will feature Seasonal Quests. These will last for several months and allow you to create teams for the Yearly Quest that will not be available as choices during the other seasons of the year. Get the Seasonal Teams while they last!!

It's Winter, so we get to have The 2016 Winter Quest!!!!

The following teams are available:
  • Six shinies whose names spell WEGOOD
  • Six shinies whose names spell ILOVEU
  • Six blue shinies
  • Six white shinies
  • The Kit Fisto Team!!!
In honor of the unambiguously coolest Clone Wars Jedi, The Kit Fisto Challenge is available for you to complete in shiny form!

To complete the amazingly-cool Kit Fisto team, you must find one of each of the following:
  • A green shiny!
  • A shiny who smiles!
  • A shiny who can learn Dive!
  • A shiny who can learn Calm Mind!
  • A shiny with a base Special Attack over 120!
  • A shiny who is undeniably cool! Submitting a Pokemon like Oddish or Sunkern for this portion of the Quest will result in immediate banishment from the club.
The 2016 Winter Quest will last until 11:59 PM on March 31, 2016.

Huge thanks to Paulthagerous for the Yearly and Seasonal Quest ideas!!

Good luck and have fun!

Spoiler:
1000 Snivy
400 Route 116 encounters

I got White 2 for Christmas!! I had done 555 Snivy SRs on White, and I'm so glad that I waited before continuing, haha! These go much faster!

We've successfully completed 2015, and we can now look back on the regions we created! My region has 10 Pokemon: Rotom, Misdreavus, Totodile, Shelmet, Sandshrew, Taillow, Yamask, Mantyke, another Taillow, and another Taillow! Thirty percent of all Pokemon encountered on my island would be Taillow, but it's pretty cool too because you have a 30% chance of encountering a Rotom, Misdreavus, or Yamask. My region is probably a haunted island, with 3 Ghosts, 2 Waters, a Ground, a Bug, and 3 Flying, haha.

Here's the picture of my latest shiny Taillow! I had actually forgotten about one, so this is my fourth overall, "lol!"

Thanks! :)

Wooooo, huge congrats!! Way to go getting a 1/8192!!

And Kasumi's an awesome nickname!

Congrats on all those shinies!

*channels shiny vibes and sends throughout the SHC*
*hopes no one notices some shiny vibes are missing*
>_>

Woah, that's so awesome!! Massive congrats!! Getting a shiny in 29 eggs isn't too bad, haha! :pink_laugh:

Welcome to the Shiny Hunters Club, Toastededibles! You're off to a great start with those two totally awesome shinies you've bred! Have you decided which one you're going to go for next?

Absolutely, feel free to ask any questions you have! I've bred a few Pokemon with 6 flawless IVs, so let me know if you need help with any part of the process!

My first shiny was a Slugma! The day was February 26th, 2006, and a 12-year-old G-Money was trudging through Emerald, trying desperately to make it through the endless labyrinth of ash and safely reach Fallarbor Town. Suddenly, a large blob of soot became sentient and attacked me from out of the ashes!! But wait, that wasn't soot...it was a gray Slugma!!!! Why!?? What is that!?? I figured I'd catch it and find out later. I searched online and discovered what shinies were, and that brought me to this thread, where I read amazing tales of great legends who actually actively searched for these mythical creatures. Thus began my shiny journey...

I started by checking all of my boxes in other games to see if I had caught one without realizing it. Sure enough, in Ruby, there was a blue Electrode! I don't remember finding it at all, but it must've been my first shiny way back in like 2003, haha.

I was super excited to find something so rare, and I talked about it for months, haha! I was so happy, and I'm still excited about that shiny Slugma!! :)

Of course I still have them! I've kept all of my shinies. They're mostly on the games I caught them on, except for if I was SRing the starters or needed to start over a 3rd gen game.

That's an awesome first shiny to get! And your challenge sounds super fun - let us know about your progress as it's going on! I'm sure you'll get a ton of cool new shinies!

The challenges are awesome, I'm going to start with team flying one for now.
Congrats on tailow and King nincada

Cya around everyone and happy hunting.

So I was doing the new years challenge and was playing soul silver. I caught the shiny Gyarados and wondered if it counted at all? It wasn't easy to catch it fainted half my team before I caught it but the catch doesn't matter the finding part is what counts and finding it was to easy so I can't really tell if it should count and add it to my sigs list of shinies. Should I? P.S. Who else thinks red Gyarados looks freaking awesome?

It does look pretty cool :)

Given it is the single easiest shiny to get, I doubt it would count. I think that if chain/friend safari Pokemon are banned then Red Gyarados being banned is kind of implied. I'm sure G-Money will let you know if I am wrong though!

@G-Money

One question I do have - can we use double ups? For a full grass team, could we use 6 Bellsprouts, or 3 (as Bell, Weep and Vict), or just 1 from the family?

Leòmhann teine January 10th, 2016 7:12 PM

So since I was playing soul silver for a challenge I thought I might as well try and snag a shiny lugia and I have found out that sring is way faster on an emulator that has the speed up function! I am now at around 70 something srs in around half an hour!

Poké Bean January 10th, 2016 8:33 PM

Finally caught my first shiny of the year! A Zubat via Horde Encounter in AS. Was trying for Aron but I'll happily take it!

Over 30 hours of SRing for shiny Mudkip in OR but no luck yet. Hope I've been doing it right! I saved in front of the bag after he asks for help, is that ok?

I was thinking about Ducklett/Swanna and how their shiny colour should really be black, are there any Pokemon that you think should be a different colour or wish that it was?

ßritto January 10th, 2016 10:36 PM

Congrats on the Shiny Zubat! - I still need to try Horde hunting! I've heard it has a high success rate.

I have always thought that Pikachu should of been a much different colour shiny, I sorta wish it looked abit like this:

1000 Route 110 encounters

I'm hunting on the Gulpin route beneath Cycling Road in Emerald now, just looking for some fun shinies before my game turns off. I don't have any of the shinies from this route, so I'd be thrilled to get any of them!

The first time I saw a Plusle, I thought it was a shiny Minun, "lol."

I'd also like to officially retire Latios Master, placing his name triumphantly on the SHC facade with the other all-time greats. One of the greatest shiny hunters of all time, Latios Master had posts spanning 11 years (!!!!!!!!!!!) in this club, having a post on the very first page back in 2004 and still being an awesome shiny hunter in 2015! May he one day find that shiny Litwick!!

We've always counted "cert shinies" for the club once, so I'd be willing to let everyone count up to one Red Gyarados for Quests if they wanted to. It'd ultimately be up to you whether you'd count it or not, but there hasn't been any rule against them.

Paulthagerous brings up a good point about Red Gyarados having a higher encounter rate than chained/safaried shinies, but I think it's kind of a different category. Getting Red Gyarados isn't using any method to make shinies more common, but I can definitely see both sides here. I'd like to let Obsideon decide whether or not he gets to count Gyarados, but if someone thinks this is unfair, feel free to let me know and we can talk about tinkering the rules.

Although, this whole discussion really only would matter if Obsideon had, like, 5 other Water shinies at the end of the year and counting Red Gyarados would put him over someone else for the Yearly Quest race, so I don't think we should really have to worry about it until then.

Yup! You could even have 6 of the same Pokemon, but that wouldn't be much fun, haha. For the chaining parallel Quest, though, you can only count one Pokemon from each chain. That's just so no one, like, gets a chain of 40 and then just keeps resetting the Radar for the same shiny, "lol."

No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's totally cheating!!!! If you get a shiny doing that it won't count for anything!! If you play on superspeed, that wouldn't be fair to anyone hunting on their games.

And trust me - you'll be much happier getting a shiny in a legit way! It'll be so much more rewarding and fun!

Woo, congrats!! And good luck on Mudkip - you're doing it right! Just make sure you enter the battle, since the picture of Mudkip when you select the Pokeball won't be shiny even if your Mudkip is shiny.

My favorite shinies are the ones with drastic color changes, like Rayquaza, Charizard, Latias, Drifblim, and Heatmor! I'd like it if more shinies had really striking colors that you'd never be able to confuse with their regular forms. Having totally different colors makes the shinies look so much cooler, in my opinion.

That Pikachu looks so awesome, haha! I'd love it if more shinies looked like that!

Good luck getting Zigzagoon! Then you could have a shiny Pickuper on your team for when you're shiny hunting to get tons of cool items along the way!

Congrats on the Boss nincada, finally the hunt is over. Must feel weird not hunting for it anymore right? :)
Congrats on the other bodyguards you caught along the way. ^^

Welcome to the new members & everyone else on their shinies! WOOOO!!!

*sending shiny vibes*

I myself am halfway done on one of my 2016 quest teams whoop whoop ^^

3 shinies 2 days... the reveal which shinies I got will come tomorrow :P

Thanks, DarkTorchic! Haha yeah, it does feel pretty weird not going after Nincada anymore. I was hunting that forever!! It almost feels...liberating to just wander around Hoenn, being all like "Oh, this route has cool shinies. I think I'll do a few encounters here..." and not having to worry about my game turning off before finding a crucial shiny for my Ghost Quest! This mini-Hoenn tour is so much more relaxing, haha.

AND 3 SHINIES IN TWO DAYS!?? AND YOU'RE NOT TELLING US!?? *dies from suspense*

EDIT: "lol" I don't even finish my post and DarkTorchic finds another shiny! Congrats!

Ok I don't really want to count the red Gyarados seeing as it is a free shiny and mostly I wasn't talking about the yearly quest never thought it would count I was mostly talking about adding it to my signature list of shiny Pokemon. And crap I really liked doing the speed SRs but I really want a shiny Lugia, for yearly so I will stop. Will it count if I stop or will it not cause I speed SRed the first 200+? Yeah I hit that last night.

Poké Bean January 11th, 2016 3:41 PM

Phew! Good to know I've not been wasting my time! I'll keep at it! Got Aron today too, those eyes are so cool!

I agree about shinies that are strikingly different being the best, Pikachu is so disappointing!

Congrats everyone on your hunts! ^^

I have Zigzagoon and Poochyena yeah, that's cool --'

Around 40 hours of SRing and...

I am a very happy Spoony indeed! ^^

2016 Route 110 encounters
777 Fiery Path/Route 112 encounters

I hunted for a shiny Numel for a little bit on Route 112, but then I switched over to Fiery Path, as it has a better array of Axiom 22 targets. Torkoal is totally awesome, and I actually wouldn't mind a shiny Koffing either. I've always thought that Koffing was a pretty lame Pokemon, but its Emerald sprite is terrific and it looks really cool when I'm battling it, haha. The shiny colors are awesome too, so I'd be really happy getting any of Numel, Torkoal, or Koffing, "lol."

I totally didn't notice that I had a Static Manectric at the front of my party this whole time, which I had been using in case one of the Route 116 Pokemon physically attacked. I had been thinking of using it to induce paralysis when I'm trying to catch a shiny, but I totally forgot about its out-of-battle effect! So despite having done 2016 encounters on Route 110, I have no idea what Pokemon are common there and whatnot, since I'd been pretty much seeing only Electrike and Minun, haha. I don't know whether I'm going to keep Static going when I get back there, since Electrike is one of the coolest shinies from that route anyway.

I've also taken the Path of the Dragon status out of my signature. I'm not abandoning it!!! I'm just focusing on my Ghost Quest right now (well, kind of, "lol") and I'll probs do the Starter Quest after that, so I won't be getting to Rayquaza anytime soon. Besides, I might do a Badge Quest on HG, so my 2/7 would be misleading - I'd need more than twice that many shinies!

Sorry man, but we can't support the use of emulators in the club. If you have a DS, we'd really rather have you hunt on that, but obviously they're your games so you can choose to hunt however you want. If you don't have a DS (or you really need to use an emulator for some other reason), you're more than welcome to hunt there and talk about it here in the club, and we'd be thrilled to hear about your shiny captures and hunts the same as if you were hunting on a DS. The only thing that's different is that they wouldn't officially count towards the Yearly/Seasonal Quests, but you're still more than welcome to try to complete them and race against other members. The most important rule of the club is to have fun, and if you're having fun hunting for shinies, by all means keep on doing that!

We just can't officially say that we're supporting illegal activity. I hope you understand what I mean. I'm not by any means saying you can't hunt there, and you're more than welcome to still try to complete the Quest; it's just that we can't give it official recognition. That being said, completing it (on normal speed!!!) would be an incredible feat worth talking about, and it would still be really fun to race against other members to see how many teams you can make!! :)

Congrats!! I'd still like to get a shiny Poochyena someday to avenge my uncatchable, first-encounter Pooch from Sapphire!

Huge congrats on the Mudkip, Spoony!! Forty hours is a ton of time hunting, and your dedication paid off!! A well-deserved shiny indeed. Do you plan on evolving it and playing through the game with it?

And where did the underlines under our names go!? :pink_confused:

Leòmhann teine January 14th, 2016 12:05 PM

Well crap I can only hunt for shiny pokemon on X, Black, Platinum, and Emerald then cause those are the only games I have in a cartridge at the moment. (If I could download a rom of say ss/hg, bw2 or any of the gba games in to a cartridge for 3ds and ds lite would that not count either?) Guess I will have to go without a shiny lugia for quest unless I can find my missing soul silver game.

Paulthagerous January 14th, 2016 3:36 PM

@G-Money - I figured double ups would be OK. Not aiming for a million Zubat/Golbats but given some of my targets I am sure I will get some doubles....

First hunt for the year: Hoen Route 113 - Skarmory
300 Hordes/1500 Pokemon seen:
0 shinies

PS - I am using Pokemon with Magnet Pull in the lead slot, so reasonable odds of a Skarmory. Bet I get a few Spindas first though..

Edit - just noticed you mentioned that Latios Master is no longer here. Sad day indeed!

Poké Bean January 14th, 2016 3:56 PM

What does Static and Magnet Pull do?

I'm definitely gonna use Mudkip on my OR Shiny Badge Quest but he's so cute I'm not sure if I can bring myself to evolve him!

Good luck for everyone's current hunts!
