SHINY PANSEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wooooooooooo-wooooo-wooot! Yeahzors, G-Money's got his first 2020 shiny!!!! And it's a really cool one, too! Just what I wanted!!!!!!!!! :pink_boogie:

I've been encountering in the Pinwheel Forest for a shaking-grass Pokémon (hopefully an elemental monkey!)

My wish came true! I've been hunting this thing since, gosh, probably last August or September, and each encounter took a ton of time since I was biking back and forth outside of the grass, waiting for a patch to shake so I could jump in and see what's what. The elemental monkeys are super rare here (you can SR for them, but I've already played through both Black and White, haha), with each of the three appearing at 10%...in the rare, shaking grass, hahahaha! And a bunch of times I'd bike back and forth for a little while waiting for some grass to shake, and then some Pidove or Cottonee would jump out of the normal grass before I even got to the shaky one and I'd have to start all over again, haha! :laugh-squinted:

I had been dual-hunting with the daily Pearl swarm on my other DS, and when I looked over at my DS with Black in it, I was like, "Oh, that's just a Pansear. Time to ru...waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaait a minute! That color looks a little brighter than normal. And maybe...a bit more orange? I should try catching it to find out and check if it's shiny." And so I chucked a Quick Ball at it, catching it on my first attempt!

It came on encounter #17,887, at 9:56 PM on May 30th, 2020. I named him Narango - a portmanteau of the Spanish words for orange (naranja) and fire (fuego), since it's a Fire Pokémon whose shiny is a bright, super-high-contrast orange, and his hair kind of looks like a flame, "lol." And Narango just sounds like a cool name to me, hahaha!

This is one of my favorite shinies I've gotten, since it's a super rare one that not many people have. Like, how many times have you ever heard of anyone hunting for a shiny Pansear? Or for that matter, how many times have you even heard of or thought about Pansear at all!?? I feel like it's a super obscure Pokémon, and I bet that if you were to chart every Pokémon ever and sort them by how many times their name has ever been said aloud, Pansear would be towards the bottom of the list. No one ever talks about it and it's just kind of there, haha! It's almost like it's a third of a Pokémon, too, since it always gets mentioned and lumped in with Pansage and Panpour. So I totally love this shiny for the same reason I love my shiny Hitmonchan and Heatmor, and it's got a sweet orange color to boot! :pink_nod:

Yes, I named my box before the Optimal Pluralization Debate of 2011. I was converted by the brilliant rhetorical skills and irrefutable logic presented in the arguments of those on Team Shinies, and I switched sides so forcefully that, to this day, I proudly proclaim that the plural form can be none other than -ies. But "lol" I never got around to changing the names of my boxes!

https://i.imgur.com/JBgxhQA.jpg

Here's a regular Pansear. I had to put a non-shiny one next to it in the box and quickly go back and forth so I could fully appreciate the difference, haha! When you look at them back-to-back, the bright orange is really striking!

https://i.imgur.com/eqWPMsK.jpg

Yup, it's a shiny, alright! :laugh-squinted: And it was holding an Oran Berry, too!!!!!!

Don't worry, I have no intention of giving up on Sneasel. I've always thought it was a cool Pokémon (partially because I remember my cousin flaunting arount his Neo Genesis Sneasel card way back in elementary school). It's also one of my most popular custom cards, so I kind of feel that I need a full-odds one to go along with it. (I actually do have a full-odds female from Moon, but I prefer the longer "feather" of the male.)

Weavile is definitely useful in battle, hitting fast and hard, but I'll probably only evolve it if I clone it. I'm cool with Weavile, but Sneasel is more nostalgic/significant to me (though Weavile does suit my username pretty well, being an Ice-type feliform with elf-like ears.)

I've always thought of Turtwig as a turtle, but its evolutions look more like Ankylosaurs to me. And I actually think Dunsparce may draw inspiration from snake-mimicking caterpillars, similar to Caterpie, though unlike Caterpie is actually part snake (I think its bee-like features are just a reference to bachi hebi/bee snake, another name for the snake-like Tsuchinoko, and likely has no actual connection to bee-mimicking moths). (I go into the theory more here if you'd like to give it a read.)

(What I didn't mention in the theory is that there's another creature that some believe to be synonymous with the Tsuchinoko, the Nozuchi, which is sometimes depicted as a hairy caterpillar-like creature.)

Lickitung is thought to draw its core inspiration from a mythological creature, the Akagame or "filth licker," a yokai sometimes described as a red, humanoid frog-like creature that licks bathhouses clean. The size of its tongue is actually more in line with chameleons, having tongues about twice the length of their bodies, but Lickitung's other characteristics (like its glossy skin and damp habitat) are definitely more salamander-like.

Not my pic, but here's a lungless salamander catching a fly with its tongue:

I absolutely love Weavile to bits, but you gave a good reason for liking Sneasel better. When you get your shiny, def keep it as Sneasel! That card looks absolutely amazing too, and I agree that male Sneasel looks a thousand times cooler than the short-feathered female, haha!

Oh my gosh. icycatelf! I don't know what I was expecting when I clicked that link, but...but...I honestly did not expect to find that you would argue that Dunsparce is actually A MOTH, of all things!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 :disbelief: :pink_disbelief: :disbelief: :bigo: :pink_disbelief: :disbelief: :littleo: :pink_disbelief:

Shame on me. I should've known!!!!! I should've been expecting this, and I should have been ready for it, "lol!" :laugh-squinted:

Of all things! "lol" I have no idea how you did it, but you actually argued that Dunsparce is a moth. And what's more, I've actually bought it!!!! Now you've gone and convinced me that Dunsparce is a moth, too! And I love the part about the triangle thing on its tail actually being an Egyptian pyramid. I never would've bought that, but your pictures with them lined up, along with the pics of the tails swaying in that gif, are just too perfect. That's totally a pyramid!!! And it totally has sphinx colors!!! And it's related to the sphinx moth!!! And it has eyespots!!!! And it's like Caterpie!!!! OMG you've totally turned around my opinion of Dunsparce now, haha. Its body shape is absolutely the Tsuchinoko, too.

I also saw on that blog that you were debating which two of Shedinja, Porygon2, and Flareon to keep for the final two spots of your team. Here's what I have to say about that:

The two coolest Pokémon of that bunch, by far, are Shedinja and Flareon. But there's something else you need to consider, something that's even more important in this case: color contrast!! You're putting your team on that trainer card, and the background is white. If there's any way to change the background of the Pokémon boxes - or better yet, the background of the whole thing - to a light black or dark bluish-gray (like the backgrounds of Quilava's Glaciation or The Johto Elite here on PC), def go with Shedinja and Flareon. But since Shedinja's kinda see-through and being transparent is part of its whole coolness, it looks absolutely horrible on white backgrounds, "lol." I stared at those candidate trainer cards for a good while trying to figure out why Shedinja, the boss of all cool Pokémon, looked so lame and was quite emphatically outclassed by Porygon2, and I realized that it's the background. The hard blue and red of Porygon2 and Flareon look terrific when juxtaposed against a light background, which make them much better fits for your trainer card than Shedinja. :pink_wink:

btw that's so cool about the tongue-launchers!!

I know I included these two in the "trash tier" of nicknames in my last post, but actually, the more I think about them, the more I come to appreciate them. Like, these ones are actually pretty cool! "lol" it's a whole sub-theme of rodent-related humanoid names for the Rattata family. Even though they're just two Pokémon, having two different shinies share a nickname "theme" like that is actually a pretty cool concept that binds them together, amplifying their coolness and making it a whole cohesive shiny party in the Rattata line, haha. Ratthew and Ratasha have earned my respect!

Thanks! :D

Even I'm not fully convinced that Eevee is a cat (hence why I haven't added it to my "RealDex"), and it's honestly only its Shiny (particularly in GSC) that gives me cat vibes since brown is a fairly rare color on cats. However, like I mentioned before, Eevee's creator DID liken it to a fluffy cat or dog-like creature, and some of its evolutions clearly have feline inspiration (especially Espeon and, IMO, Leafeon). So cat, dog, generic fantasy animal... take your pick.

I only put them on these trainer cards for planning purposes. I'll actually just be putting the menu icons in my sig like I have now. If I do make a trainer card though, I'll probably use this template or create a new one more consistent with Switch graphics.

Flareon definitely feels significant to me, probably more so than Shedinja and Porygon2, but I feel like it got watered down a bit when I got my second Shiny Eevee at "fuller" odds (something I was afraid was going to happen but went for regardless) and I'm slightly put off by the idea of using two Eeveelutions. I definitely want to keep Leafeon though, as it has become one of my absolute favorite Pokémon (tied with Dunsparce and Wartortle).

I agree that Shedinja is the cooler Pokémon here (probably the best Pokémon of all conceptually, IMO) and one I could imagine having IRL, but I'm not sure if it's as significant to me as Porygon2. I hardly ever keep Porygon2 in my lead, unlike Shedinja which I keep as my lead in SoulSilver, but it's one of my oldest Shinies (the oldest I still have, I think), has such amazing colors, and totally took me by surprise when I accidentally SR'd it in Platinum (vs Shedinja, which I was intentionally hunting). I also remember poorly paper-crafting a Porygon2 "puppet" as a kid, so I guess that makes Porygon2 a little nostalgic. (It's a real shame that I can't just swap my Rotom Dex for a Shiny Porygon2 Dex...)

Spoiler:
https://i.imgur.com/R5Wihqc.png

It looked something like this, IIRC. Cylinders obviously equal spheres. :laugh-squinted:

(Also, I never really thought of Shedinja as being transparent...???)

EDIT: After going over this, I think I'm going to go with Flareon and Porygon2. Shedinja can be saved for my IRL/anime team.

EDIT 2: Signature updated, though I'll still probably change my mind again. Dx

Haven’t posted in awhile. Today I got a shiny Gible, it took 581 Dexnav encounters. I forgot to plug my 3ds in yesterday but it wasn’t red so decided to do 1 Dexnav encounter today and it was shiny. I put it to sleep and it caught in 1 ball. I immediately saved after catching it and after saving the 3ds died. Had it broke it of the ball I likely would have failed it. So happy it lived long enough to catch the shiny and save.

I’ve been in a fs hunting a shiny female Combee, have found 3 Pinsir, 3 Volbeat and 1 male Combee. I’m using cute charm so that Combee is more often female when it pops up. Really wish I had a fs with just 2 Pokemon in it though. Also have been horde hunting for 5% Scyther and masuda method hunting for Gastly.

icycatelf June 18th, 2020 6:17 AM

No new Shinies but, hey, Dunsparce is finally in SWSH! I went ahead and finished transferring my favorites, barring Mothim which sadly still doesn't exist in SWSH's coding.

https://i.imgur.com/Oq9Wtja.jpg

Also, your Pokémon can follow you in the Isle of Armor (and hopefully the Crown Tundra coming later this year) and, unlike wild Pokémon, Shinies have their Shiny colors in the overworld! They still stay in their Poké Balls in the main region, though.

https://i.imgur.com/4hNLRZd.jpg

EDIT: Found this guy by chance last night! Funny since I'd been trying for a Shiny Midday Lycanroc on and off (mostly off) pretty much since the release of Sun & Moon. Full-odds, too! (That is, assuming the Isle of Armor doesn't have any unique Shiny mechanics like the Friend Safari.)

https://i.imgur.com/5bDngdX.jpg

Nickname references my old username (KougaWolf), though I'm thinking about changing it to Shugo (the main character from .hack//Legend of the Twilight) since my mind immediately jumped to Ouka (a shewolf from the same series) when I first saw Midday Lycanroc.

OMG Shiny Drowzee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11!!1

"lol" I got a shiny from the Pearl swarm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :pink_boogie:  This is my first time getting a shiny that was actually the marquee swarm event, hahahaha! :laugh-squinted:

Drowzee appeared on encounter #18,703, at 10:50 PM on June 16th, 2020. It was going to be my last encounter of the night before saving and going to bed (and I always like to sneak in one extra encounter again after I save, haha), but this Drowzee was...purple!!! "lol" it's kind of an ugly-colored shiny, but it looks like a zombie and it's totally fitting for Drowzee! "lol" this thing is legit a zombie, and it has both the perfect looks and the perfect color scheme for it, haha! I don't think I've ever seen something like this where the shiny is a drastically different thing than the original - I'd always thought of Drowzee as a sleepy magician's apprentice or something, but shiny Drowzee is totally an undead anteater with latent Psychic powers. It's an awesome concept!

I caught it on the first Dusk Ball attempt, since it was late at night and the ominous dark swirling of the Dusk Ball seems to fit really well with the zombie theme, and it provides a cool contrast to the sickly purple color of shiny Drowzee! :pink_nod:

And I get to use this shiny to bring back Finn the Lumineon!!! :boogie:

Spoiler:
https://i.imgur.com/rTE1adl.jpg

"lol" somewhat of a clown!

https://i.imgur.com/X5PXKZF.jpg

And Modest is my favorite nature, especially for Psychic Pokémon!! :pink_boogie:

I named her Dorena, a mix of the French for "she sleeps" (elle dort) and the Spanish for "she dreams" (sueña).

I totally understood what that picture with the cylinders meant when I first saw it, but then you went and said that the cylinders represent spheres, and now I have absolutely no idea what it means, hahahaha!

And I'm not saying that Shedinja's totally transparent! It's not, like, invisible or anything. What I mean is that if you think of a continuum of opacity, with "totally opaque" on one end of the spectrum and "totally invisible and see-through" on the other, Shedinja is much closer to the transparent portion, without being all the way at the end.

Like, do you know about the test that dude did to see whether light was a wave or a particle? He took a laser and shot it at a wall with two holes in it, and he had another, totally dark wall behind it. That test was checking out whether the light that reached the back wall perfectly lined up with the shape of the holes in the blocking wall (which would indicate a particle nature of light), or whether the light projected on the back wall didn't totally match up with the holes and crept out in a manner that didn't perfectly align with the shape and size of the holes in the anterior blocking wall (which would indicate a wave nature of light).

It turns out that light can exhibit properties of both waves and particles, but for the purposes of the following illustration, let's take the particle theory and assume it's true (it's not, but I'm making a demonstration here!) to test whether various Pokémon could function as "holes" in the anterior blocker. In doing so, we could see whether a Pokémon is solid or not by seeing whether any light would show up on the wall behind it. I think that if you were to do a similar thing as the original experiment and launch a laser beam at various Pokémon (sorry, icycatelf's faves! :pink_love: ), a perfectly opaque and solid Pokémon like Porygon2 would fully block the light and there wouldn't be anything on the wall behind it; a Pokémon like Flareon would block pretty much all of the light and form a silhouette on the wall behind it - but it wouldn't perfectly match the shape of Flareon's body, since Flareon's hair isn't monolithically solid and light would get through in a manner that doesn't completely line up with Flareon's look, as its hair could be blowing in the wind or something, "lol"); and with Shedinja, I'd imagine that most of the light would get through, but not all because Shedinja does have a physical essence that would block certain things from passing through.

Actually, on second thought, this wouldn't tell us a darn thing about the opacity of Shedinja, since whether something can interact with its body or whether it passes right through it is entirely contingent on Wonder Guard! There are certain elements that "recognize" Shedinja and interact with it as if it were a perfectly solid object (fire, bird attacks, etc.), and other things are disaligned on a dimensional plane such that the two elements never interact, and thus can be perfectly superimposed on the exact same Cartesian coordinates. I don't know whether light photons would be an element that could collide with Shedinja or would pass right through it due to failing the Wonder Guard dimensionality alignment, so this little experiment has absolutely no utility in helping us determine the opacity of Shedinja.

All this has done is let me launch a preemptive strike on some of icycatelf's most trusted companions, launching lethal laser beams to give me a quick victory to start off the war! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA! :evil-smirk:

*sends in army of undead zombie anteaters led by Dorena the shiny Drowzee and Narango the mischevious fire mage to assault icycatelf's fortress*

Congrats on those new shinies - that's an enormously brave feat you pulled off there, "lol!" You must have enormous guts to engage in a shiny capture attempt where one failed throw could lead to a lost shiny! :pink_disbelief: I'm super glad to hear everything turned out for the best!

Also, I absolutely love how:

Maserati777: counts his encounters by number of shinies seen

BWAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA "lol" that first pic is THE MOST icycatelf image ever, hahahahhahahaha! :laugh-squinted: Like, if you distilled your essence down and melted the very innermost pure elements of your soul to reforge them into a single image, that would be it!! Leafeon in the center, Dunsparce prominently displayed in the foreground, a beautiful natural environment filled with rare fauna, shiny Wartortle and a Shedinja hanging out, the corpse of Porygon2 lying solemnly in the background, a memorial to honor his lost soul that was so brutally felled by G-Money's nefarious laser beam...

It's often said that a picture is worth a thousand words, but that picture is worth someone's soul! :pink_laugh:

Massive congrats on the shiny Rockruff! Kouga sounds like a dope name, especially since it was your name back when you were a wolf and shiny Lycanroc kind of looks like a wolf. It would make sense seeing as real cicada shells are paper thin, but Shedinja's pitch black interior seems to imply otherwise.

Yep! They can't follow you immediately though (you have to finish some trials first) and a lot of Pokémon are kind of slow so you can't really see them on-screen most of the time without rotating the camera unless you're standing still.

I already changed it to Shugo. It just sounds... prettier? Kouga sounds kind of rugged and might be better suited for the Midnight form. (Shugo means "guardian" and Kouga means "iron fang," IIRC.)

That SWSH screenshot makes me jealous! I don't have a Switch but I hope to get one eventually. We'll see.
I'm pretty happy today though, as I just broke my dry spell of 20 days. Last shinies I got were June 5th (Pothos, the Ultra Wormhole Terrakion-one of my favorite shiny legends, and Slider the Friend safari wartortle- my favorite middle stage evo!) and since then I'd been hunting (same methods) without luck (I did find a friend safari growlithe but I failed it due to not knowing it had take down). Well, tonight, I finally ended my bad luck streak! I got shiny Wormhole Regigigas (so underrated!) and shiny FS Charmeleon! Ironic that I would get a wormhole legend and FS gen 1 starter again

My shiny collection has grown enough that it is time for an update. I have done a lot of shiny trading with several different members of the forum lately to expand my glistening kingdom, some of you I met in this very club, and I just want to say that it has been marvelous getting to know you all, and talking to several of you. I also want to thank G-MONEY for making feel so welcome here.

Earlier this June I did a version exclusive trade with The Alolan Naturalist. He has pokemon X, and was at the Trade Corner offering the choice of a shiny clauncher/clawitzer or remoraid in exchange for a shiny skrelp, which can be chain fished easily in Y. I have Pokemon Y and had some extra skrelp from my shiny horsea/seadra hunt, and took him up on the deal. I really enjoyed doing this trade. Clauncher looks really nice in red. I call him Sebastian like the loveable worrywart crab from The Little Mermaid.

We took the opportunity to visit eachother's friend safari since it was XY, and we were online at the same time. I was delighted to find a new flying safari. I'm currently on the hunt for a shiny Fletchinder. It's such a magnificent dark orange to me, and it becomes a stunning scarlet when it evolves into Talonflame. One of my favorite shinies. I really hope I can catch one that is shiny and with gale wings! I would take almost any nature.

So far I ran into and caught 2 shiny spearow while looking for Fletchling. While not the Pokemon I was hoping for, a shiny is still a shiny. This has happened to me a few times on friend Safari, encountering and capturing different shiny pokemon than I was shooting for, but eventually this lady bird gets her worm.

I also recently traded away some extra shiny gible, shiny noibat and shiny goomy of mine, all to one user who loves dragons as much as I do, DragonKing48. One was given away no strings attached as part of an event that I hosted with Firebolt this spring called The Dragon Share for the club Dragon Ascent. He and I collaborated to bring members of the club lots of adorable shiny dragons like Gible, Trapinch, Charmander, Kingdra. It was a lot of fun!

I traded also some pokemon that were not part of the giveaway with DragonKing in exchange for a handsome Shiny Eevee and Shiny Bulbasaur.

Now I will be able to have a shiny Umbreon as well as a shiny Sylveon from the Eevee I already had, and feel contented by that. Those are the Eeveelutions with the shiny color schemes that appeal to me most. While Espeon is probably my favorite Eeveelution, I think it's actually much more beautiful in its normal form than Shiny. I feel the same way about Shiny Dragonite, and think that particular green isn't as flattering as the original color scheme. Now if it was the pale, almost iridescent green they have in Stadium 2 that would be a whole different story!

One of my other escapades includes a hunt for a shiny pidgey in totally different flying friend safari back last month, which I caught and saved especially for a friend's birthday this June. They like first stage evolution flying pokemon like Rowlet and Fletchling, and Pidgey is one of them. I successfully synchronized the timid nature I was hoping for, just in case he should ever evolve it. A golden mega pidgeot with a purple plume is nothing to sneeze at. Even though I did not keep this pokemon, I still want to have a record of a hunt well-done.

That is not the end of my good fortune. I was graced with the shiny event Yvetal compliments of Fafrir's birthday giveaway for dark pokemon over at Lunar Eclipse. I previously had the shiny event Zygarde in my collection. I missed the shiny Xerneas event though, so I figured maybe I ought to hunt shiny Xerneas in my copy of Ultra Sun to complete the aura trio. I have never shiny hunted legendaries in gen 7 before, so any tips from club members about wormhole shiny hunting would be appreciated.

I completed my long, drawn-out hunt for the Unova variant of Darmanitan on the mirage spots in Oras back in may as well. This was not my first attempt going after one in gen 6. This shiny is my prodigal son. It has been on my list to catch all year, but I had to bide my time since this pokemon is only available on mirage spots, which are generated daily randomly.

I first tried to catch one back in March on the mirage island north of route 113, I spent several hours there, and after hundreds of encounters I spawned a shiny larvesta instead of Darmanitan. I caught the larvesta. Why not? But unfortunately, my luck ran out after that. I spent my days there until I ran out of repels, which I need for this method and never found a shiny damanitan. Since I got shiny larvesta, I didn't consider it a total loss, and told myself I would catch shiny darmanitan next time--which I did.

It took a long time for an mirage spot with Darmanitan to spawn again though. I finally got my wish though. It was the mirage mountain I think east of 125. I was kinda worried I would bump into a shiny Magby first, but this time I did get the Damanitan. I was really hoping it would have it's hidden ability because it's shiny color is subtly different in Zen mode as well, but no such luc this time. I got lucky and got a shiny Vulpix this way on one of my firsts hunts, so I thought I might get doubly lucky again. Since I don't think the Damanitan outside of Relic Castle in BW shiny-locked though, so I could one day sr for a shiny Darmanitan in Pokemon Black because the one post game always carries it's dream world ability I believe, and have 2 darmanitan. For now this one will do though.

Last but not least, I gifted a shiny hidden ability Swablu to a dear friend. And she surprised me with a shiny Petilil in return. I hadn't expected anything in return, but am grateful and will raise this precious grass pokemon into a lovely shiny Lilligant.

Congrats!

I adore moths, so I'll probably try for this one later too. I think I'm going to try getting the elusive Sport Ball first, though. It would be really cool to have the sun moth in the same kind of ball used for Johto's Bug-Catching Contest.

hey, shiny hunters!! me again. this time, i'd like to introduce you all to my shiny slowking.

https://i.imgur.com/ja3rjZs.png

i really do feel like slowking is such an underrated pokemon. i figured that with the whole galarian slowpoke/slowbro theme that the isle of armor has going on, what better way to go about with things than getting a slowking?

Sirfetch’d July 4th, 2020 9:07 AM

Slowking has a great shiny! Slowbro does as well but I just love the blue around the neck part of Slowking so much. It really stands out.

I was very happy to get a skrelp too! Good luck hunting in my safari (I do hope you get fletchinder soon, I really love shiny talonflame as well!), I actually hunted in yours and got my target on the first go! a great shiny wartortle, who is also probably my favorite middle stage evo for any starter!

As for the gen7 SR hunt, my advice, other than the synchronize trick to try and get a good nature, is to use the rotocatch bonus that you can get from the rotomdex roto-loto. It makes your pokeballs more effective, thereby lowering the chance of a failed shiny, especially if you'd like to catch them in an apriball or some other ball you're running out of.

Hey everyone. Been a while since posting, and this will be my last post here. And that's because I'm finished. Today, I hatched my third shiny Jangmo-o, which complete the entire evolution line. It was also the final pokemon I needed for my Gen 7 shinydex. I have gotten every shiny pokemon that I can legitimately obtain. This is my retirement from shiny hunting. It was fun while it lasted.

I don't usually hang around here because I'm more of a "Scavenger ", I don't do hunts and SRS and all, but if I can find them and obtain them if it's something I like ...I'll jump on it...I just obtained this ridiculous rarity which I think is pretty cool lol.

Go ahead ...try to figure out how.

Iceshadow3317 July 8th, 2020 11:32 AM

Hey guys. It has been a bit since my last post here. Haven't had much luck with shinies recently. I was hunting for a Shiny Noctowl and Hatching Eggs for Shiny Riolu without any luck in Shield.

However, I did run across this little fellow.

Was on my way to Digging Pa to turn in some watts and it popped up right under me on Isle of Armor. First Shiny caught within Shield other than Zeraora of course.

I think I am going to take a break from Shiny Hunting in Shield and work on trying to get Eon Isle Shiny Latias in Omega Ruby after a very long break from it.

Yesterday I continued my masuda method hunt for Gastly that I began in Jun 2019 and finally found my shiny in 533 eggs total. I then switched my Japanese Ditto and American Haunter with a Japanese Meowth and American Ditto and hatched a shiny Meowth in 4 eggs.

Was pretty surprised, I don’t have shiny charm so I believe odds are 1/612 or something.

It has been a while since I've posted here, but I finally remember to do so. I know it's already summer, but back in April and May I started with my themed shiny team hunting. My first theme was "Spring Morning". So, here it is:
https://i.imgur.com/BMwRtoM.pnghttps://i.imgur.com/2OZYm75.png
Josephine the Cherrim was the very first Pokémon that came on my mind when I decided the theme. Funnily enough, I got it few days after me and my girlfriend went cherry picking.

https://i.imgur.com/smgOKeq.png
Another Pokémon I went with was Petilil named Claire, literally a Bulb Pokémon. I also wanted Lilligant, but apparently I had no Sun Stone on my save. But I would say Petilil fits the theme more.

https://i.imgur.com/NAdXKd0.png
Clotilde the Durant mind seems like a really weird choice for Spring Morning. But while the last two Pokémon were mostly from the "Spring" part, Durant fits the "Morning" part. My room is directly next to a school workshop and each year in early spring, there is an ant infestation that sometimes gets to my room and I would usually see few ants each morning. So I have ants associated with spring mornings.

https://i.imgur.com/vqqsVGN.pnghttps://i.imgur.com/z5ZVBTg.pnghttps://i.imgur.com/r1tfWMM.png
Fanfan the Venusaur was my next choice, since Bulbasaur line is also known as Seed Pokémon. The closed bulb on Bulbasaur's back kinda looks like a beginning of a new life, the same way as Spring and morning do. I originally went with just Bulbasaur, but when I realized I won't be able to post the team here and "officially" check it as finished, I just evolved him all the way to Venusaur, since all the flowers are already blooming now. Also interesting fact: Fanfan's mother is Lena, Venusaur that I used in my very first Nuzlocke in Pokémon X back in 2015, who survived all the way from Lumiose City and was the one who beat Diantha's Mega Gardevoir.

https://i.imgur.com/PGrx9aI.pnghttps://i.imgur.com/6Dat4S1.png
Benedict the Sawsbuck is Pokémon with a form that is literally called Spring Form. To be honest, I don't have any other reason why I hunt it.

https://i.imgur.com/P1TPMSa.pnghttps://i.imgur.com/HG3tlAe.png
Final Pokémon in this themed team was supposed to be Rodolphe the Beautifly, but I ended up with Dustox, which fits more to autumn team. Nevertheless Wurmple and Cascoon are still bugs that fit perfectly to the theme. But at least I have another fun fact: Rodolphe's dad is a Dustox that I used in my very first playthrough of Sapphire back in circa 2009. Well, not exactly the same, since I have to way of getting it from Game Boy Micro, but I build this Dustox in Alpha Sapphire exactly after the original.

So I have to say that I had really good time trying to figure out which Pokémon fits the theme. I also tried not to use many Pokémon from one generation, even though half of this team is made out of Gen V Pokémon. So, next I was thinking about doing some teams based on a various holiday activities or destinations.

I love themed hunts and this is a great one! Love how it's basically a grass and bug team. I was literally thinking earlier (before seeing this) of doing a summer themed hunt. Are you gonna do one? It'd be interesting to see what we each come up with. In the meantime I'm working on another theme that I will post soon (but that has a lot of overlap with yours, also.)
I wanted to post the highlights of this weekend. I hunted them simultaneously and they both took longer than a day (I was at all almost all saturday), both super long hunts.
Jet the Ultra Wormhole Latias (love the gold and green eyes) was a rollercoaster because I actually failed it (struggled to death), was super disappointed, but decided to dust myself off despite my discouragement and in around 185 I reclaimed it! It was an easy capture the second time around, thankfully, because that was my worst shiny fail to date.
And then the next morning Cassandra the Braixen decided to shine in a friend safari, in gen 6 where I don't have the shiny charm. I was pretty lucky with this one, since it ended up being both female and with its hidden ability. I named her after the oracle in the Illiad

VisionofMilotic July 14th, 2020 11:29 AM

Meet my perfect Shiny Skarmory with "outstanding potential" an impish nature and the ability sturdy. I named him Destiny as a reference to the precious Green Destiny sword from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. I thought it fitting with Skarmory being a steel Pokemon, and having green tips on his wings instead of red. His cry is bird-like, yet also makes a clashing sound like unsheathing a sword. Then it has the nice rusted color as a shiny like an ancient metal that has weathered battle. You might not be able to tell that it's a slightly different silver unless it's right in front of you, because it's subtle, and the camera doesn't entirely do it justice.

Anyway, I love him! I can't wait to send this guy into battle. I think shiny Skarmory is underrated.

I plan on building few teams themed around various holiday activities or destinations. First one I started working about is "Beach bailout". I think I'll hunt Alolan Raichu, Snorlax, Corsola, Sharpedo, some baby Pokémon, probably Elekid and Crabominable. Then I plan on doing a team for hiking/biking and other inland outdoor activities.

Nice! I won't share my hunting list to make it more fun but mine will be completely different. I'll get started on it as soon as I'm done with my current themed hunt, which i'llpost about soon hehe. I like your idea and I'm especially looking forward to your hiking theme because that's so open to interpretation!

I have had some crazy luck this weekend! on friday I caught a Palkia that I had been hunting basically all week, and then like an hour later I caught Kyogre! Neither are my favorite shinies ever but I guess I kind of like that Kyogre, king of the water types, does the same "pink/purple" shiny thing as, like, every water type basically.
I own ultra moon and alpha sapphire, and most of the version exclusive legendaries I have access to are repeated in both games, with the notable exception of palkia/dialga (also I can get Raikou in AS but not UM) so I thought I'd try to get dialga. I don't have the shiny charm in AS though, and it's a tedious hunt because you have to soar everytime (and go through that animation) so after a day and a half of hunting I was really second guessing myself, thinking I was gonna spend so much time in this hunt and maybe it wasn't worth it. I'm so glad I kept going because I got Dialga, my first full odd shiny legend, obviously way under odds! Then just a while ago I got Yveltal, which I was hunting at the same time as Dialga on a borrowed DS. It's so beautful!! I don't know why it had never caught my attention too much, because it is striking!
So here are the big bois with their rhyming names

So it had been a while since I did a themed hunt (the legendary hunts were somewhat unplanned, though very, very welcome ahah). Buzzing their way through summer, here's my july-wide bug themed hunt complete with my signature terrible editing! I was inspired by how buggy the summer is, and especially by the millions of mosquitoes who are constantly bugging me, pun intended. Having recently discovered the joys of Friend Safari, I used it to get Apis the disappointingly male combee, Hestia the Larvesta (so happy!!), Annona the beautifly , Noni the cascoon , Actias the dustox . I also horde hunted Myrmetal the durant, and dexnaved Purmple the Wurmple and Viridis the Kakuna(all gen 5 shinies are without the charm) and then I SOS hunted Aporia the caterpie, Cordy the Paras and Denkimushi the grubin.

This past Summer I started up my legendary shiny hunts in Ultra Sun and Alpha Sapphire. My eventual goal is a living shiny dex with everyone transferred to Home/SwSh, but for now I'm just having fun with getting into shiny hunts for the first time in a while. Starting in Ultra Sun with a shiny charm, my first legend hunt was a doozy, probably took close to 3,000 SR's and almost made me give up several times, but I finally got a shiny Reshiram. I went into the second hunt with a bit more confidence, and also started using synchronize to try to get a preferred nature, and ended up spotting shiny Virizion 151 SR's in, with the Jolly nature I wanted as well. The third hunt that I successfully completed ended up being Terrakion, which shattered all expectations when I found the alternate palette after only 17 resets! Only downside is that I wasn't as lucky with the nature for this mon.

I'm still working on Cobalion right now but hope to have fruitful results soon. In the meantime, I completed the national dex for Alpha Sapphire and restarted the game so that I could get to the legendaries at the end with a shiny charm in hand. It was going smoothly until I realized that you are forced to encounter Latias after the 5th badge, but can't collect the shiny charm until much later. And seeing as how this is my only opportunity to get shiny Latias since I don't have Omega Ruby, I've started the agonizing task of shiny hunting Latias through a 5 minute cutscene at full odds. Fully expecting this hunt could take months, but I look forward to (eventually) showing off the fruit of my labor here. :P
