To the importers
Just a little survey-thingy i wanted to do for the importers :3
How many of you guys actually understand (understand as in read) japanese? Many people will be playing the game out of pure instinct, but others will know full fledged japanese whilst others may know bits and pieces that will help them :O So how much do you know? |
don't have a clue how to read japanese, but as its a remake i know where to go off by heart (yes i played Gold + Silver THAT much..)
extra stuf.. i'll just hope its obvious what i've gotta do. |
Don't have a clue what they are saying in Japanese and I am still importing.
I'm importing becuase I want to play it now and get a feel for it rather then wait to play, I'm getting Heart gold in english anyway. Soul silver is the import I'm getting.
I am able to read katakana and hiragana, which means I can look it up, but I wouldn't find that enjoyable at all. =/
So uh, even though I could get by okay, I won't be importing actually. I'd rather spend my money on the English-language version a bit later than buy something I can't read all that well. |

Hopefully the extra stuff won't be too hard to figure out... Of course I'm sure there will be guides. |
I don't understand a word japanese and that's why I won't buy it now, but I'll just torment myself by waiting till spring
I can read most katakana and some hiragana, so I can somewhat understand the game.
I'm working on learning the remaining katakana and hiragana that I don't know and I have my Japanese-English dictionary to help me out if I get stuck. Importing platinum in Japanese last year helped my with my katakana and hiragana, so importing another Japanese game may help me even more. |
i'm going to download the japanese rom as soon as it appears online (heart gold) then buy the english version of soul silver when it comes out in the uk, i know i wont be able to understand the japanese rom i'll wait for a guide that i can follow
Well it's basically the Same Plot & Storyline as Gold & Silver and if you've played that long enough to know what to do then you should have no problems
Moving this to General Pokemon gaming because it pertains to the franchise as whole, not just HG/SS.
I can't read (much) Japanese, but Importing My Platinum version helped open the door of me importing games galore.
My Collection in the order of Purchase -Pocket Monsters Platinum (DS) I thought I would have a hard time getting through the game, but I really didn't take that long for me to beat it, thus deciding that importing games rocks! -Slime Mori Mori Dragon Quest (GBA) The Japan Only Prequel the DS's Dragon Quest Heroes: ROcket SLime -Sin and Punishment (N64) I didn't like the feel of using both the Gamecube and Classic Controller for this game on Wii's Virtual Console for this game, so I decided to get the real deal. The N64 Controller fits PERFECTLY with the play-style. -Super Robot Wars 64 (N64) A Stategy RPG in which 95% of the usable units are mechas from various Anime, Manga, Novels, and Other Videogames. I was convinced to buy it after seeing a Youtube Video XD -Pocket Monsters Crystal (GBC) After getting into the whole importing thing, I decided to get a Japanese copy of Pokemon Crystal. To my surprise, there were many differences between it and the English Version. The Status Screens for the Pokemon were split Vertically. There were fewer boxes in the PC, but each Box could hold around 25-30 Pokemon instead of 20. And of course various Trainer Sprites(And Jynx) were unedited. Did you know that Fishermen had Cigar's in their mouths? Or that Beauties had much shorter shorts? Or that Monks had their hands folded in Prayer? Okay, enough blabbering about that. THe point is, I've already Pre-ordered both Heart Gold and Soul Silver from Japan, and I really doubt this will be the last time I import a game. |
nothiong in the slightest...I'm still importing them though :)
Not at all. I imported HeartGold because I am physically incapable of waiting for the English release of this game. In can't be that hard to figure out. I'll just pretend al the japanese text are smiley faces. :)
I don't understand it at all, but that's not stopping me from grabbing a Japanese rom when it appears, so I can have something to do until it gets released over here. When it gets released over here, I will go out and buy it.
I got a book that helps me translate Japanese kanji and kana into roman syllables, but I know very little of the language itself. At most, I'd be able to read the names of different places. XD
I can't understand it at all, but I'm impatient so I'm gonna grab a Japanese ROM and then buy it in English when it comes out here. Speaking of ROMs, anyone know how long it generally takes for them to come out?

It usually takes a few hours to a few days for them to come out, but they can get really hard to find for a while because of the E$A keeps trying to take them down.
I'm winging it and going by memory. If I'm having trouble, I'm sure there will be guides up on the internet, as well for the new events. Let's all give a hoorah for having no comprehension!
I'm not importing (but my brother is) and even if I was, all I can speak is Chinese. :(
The only one I can't understand but can enjoy is that Japanese Elite Beat Agent game :3
I can read Katakana, Hiragana, and some kanji, so Pokemon games aren't too difficult to half understand. That said, I've only imported Green.
I own a few other Japanese games, but they're far beyond my reading/vocabulary level. |
I understand most things in japanese. I never really buy imports though because I usually wait until it comes out where I live. If I do get japanese import games though im sure I would be able to understand it.
