What Kind Of Japanese Music Do You Listen To?
What Kind Of Japanese Music Do You Listen To? And If You Do Can You Please Name Bands/Artists?
I'm more into J-pop than anything else. I listen to ; Hikaru Utada Koda Kumi & BoA [But only a little] |
Hmm. I'm only interested in songs that's shown in animes. So most artist I know are Seiyuus.
|
I don't know what to classify them as, but my favorites are:
Fukari Mori Ichigo go go! Hanabi And I hate stuff like: Motteke sailor fuku |
I got into most of these bands/singers via anime OPs and EDs:
… And there's more, but I can't be bothered to list them. |
Quote:
I'm a fan of Nakata Yasutaka's groups (Capsule, Perfume, and the lesser known Coltemonikha) and J-pop with more rock (Do As Infinity, the brilliant green) and electronic (recent Utada Hikaru and the unknown-to-most Sakanaction) influences and less of pop with too much rap/hip-hop ("J-urban" artists such as Koda Kumi and Exile) and excessive boring love ballads. J-rock is also good (the pillows, Bump of Chicken, Radwimps, Asian Kung-Fu Generation) as long as it isn't gimmicky visual rock. Also Bonnie Pink, Superfly, Yui, Sakamoto Maaya and Nakashima Mika, all of whom are some variation of pop and have more style, personality and substance to them than your average pop. I could go on, but then I would look obsessive. I'm not. Really. |
I only really listen to Miyavi because I like the music.
Oh and Polysics too, for the same reason. Other than that I'm not too interested in listening to foreign language music because I can't understand it... =/ |
Anime stuff (probably because I'm rarely exposed to anything else and don't care enough to check anything else out) and stuff from NicoNico and the like (for instance, Kumikyoku is pretty awesome).
|
Japanese music...
Well, depends really. =/ I love Soundtrack Music, and since I'm very fond of the Rurouni Kenshin OVA music, you could say that I'm a fan of Taku Iwasaki. Specially the songs of Heart of the Sunrise, In Memories - Kotowari and others... But also the soundtrack of Saiunkoku Monogatari (II), Rurouni Kenshin Movie, Vampire Knight, DN Angel, Fire Emblem... As for Vocal Music, I tend to listen to the songs that are featured as Opening and Ending of the Anime I watch. If I really like the song, I will go search for more of the Artist, such as Shunichi Miyamoto (Byakuya True Light/ DN Angel op) or Suara (Mouso Uta/Utawarerumono op). I really like Suara. She has a nice voice, and some really nice songs. ^_^ If I really get into an Anime, I will listen to Image Songs as well, so I have many Seiyuu's in my artist's list as well... Other Artist in my play-list: Abingdon Boys School (JAP - Sengoku Basara), Ayaka Hirahara (Hajimari no Kaze - Saiunkoku Monogatari), L'Arc~en~ciel (Shine - Seirei no Moribito/Lost Heaven - FMA), ON/OFF (Futatsu no Koudo to Akai Tsumi/Rinne-Rondo - Vampire Knight (Guilty))... |
Sweet songs. Like Hikaru Michi (Sonic X) and Gilder (Tokyo Mew)
|
My favourites are Yui, Mai Kuraki, Stereo Peony, and Buono right now. Though Yui is definitely the best. ^^
|
L'Arc~en~Ciel
Vamps Vocaloid (only Kaito) Porno Graffiti Acid Black Cherry tetsu69 There are probably some more.. but I'm lazy. |
I'm usually into songs that you find in Anime openng and ending themes. Songs that I like are:
Again - Yui Uso(Lie) - Sid Hologram - NICO Touches the Wall It's Gonna Rain - Bonnie Pink Raion - Jinn Hero's Comeback - [Not sure who] Bluebird - [Not sure who] Distance - [Not sure who] All the Way - Mikuni Shichitenhakki Shijou Shugi - Kotoko Cats on Mars - The Seatbelts Diamond Flower - Yoriko All related to Anime somehow or the other. |
I try to listen to other Japanese songs, but I always end up listening to anime songs. D:
I'm trying really hard... |
The only Japanese song I like is called
Hero's Comeback by +nobodyknows |
I like Mayumi Tanaka (Did I spell it right?) who voices Luffy in One Piece. Her Luffy singing voice is awesome and actually sounds like the character! That takes skill.
|
Just what plays during whatever anime I watch.
Like in the openings or endings and in betweens and during the show. Jpop mostly I guess. Don't know much as for japanese group names. |
Animu/gaem/eroge music mostly.
I also like J-Core/Nerdcore. I find regular Japanese music these days to be boring. And you know regular music is boring when three K-On CDs top the Oricon charts. |
Yay, total music otaku here. :D

Lately I've really started to like Tohoshinki, Arashi, MiChi and Kimaguren, the first two are pop boybands who I think actually do some really decent music, and Kimaguren is an easy listening duo who does what they call "beach music", so they're always great to listen to and MiChi is a really fun mix of pop and rock that's great to listen to. I've always been a fan of rock, so flumpool (god I love flumpool, if you haven't listened to them, go do it, now) HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR, The Back Horn, FAKE, Tourbillon, Fujifabric, and Dragon Ash in their early days have been great music for me in that genre. Oh. Also, anything with Tak Matsumoto on the guitar is going to be really awesome as long as it doesn't involve Koshi Inaba on vocals because...gah. And when they aren't being totally generic (Hakanaku mo Towa no Kanashi for example), UVERworld is a great band. I love J-Urban music as well, just not stuff like...Koda Kumi, can't stand her. mflo, anything with VERBAL in it, I'll probably like. I really love listening to Ryohei Yamamoto's music as well as Rip Slyme, BENNIE K, Shonan no Kaze. I really love the Nakta produced groups as well, they're all the same genre of music, more or less, but they really do show off that dance/techno side of music in a wonderful manner that is so easy to get lost in. I especially love Capsule's older stuff and the newer Perfume. Also a huge fan of anything produced by JIN, GReeeeN, BACK ON, and 2BACKKA, they're really great to listen to, I love anything that uses the keyboard and vocoder effectively. Slightly older artists I love are Mr. Children, THE ALFEE, Fukuyama Masaharu, V6, Do as Infinity, DA PUMP, BONNIE PINK, Porno Graffitti, and Kinki Kids. Generally can't stand any form of Visual Kei, but I do love SID. I've also got a thing for indie artists like School Food Punishment, DUSTZ, Swinging Popsicles, Waffles, Over and Under, and Lolipop World. Annnnd as if this post wasn't rambling enough, these are songs I happen to really love as well: MiChi - Change the World, YOU Tohoshinki - Stand by U, Survivor, Share the World, Bolero (love this song so much) GReeeeN - Setsuna, Ano Koro Basho 2BACKKA - Namida, Harebare UVERworld - kokorozashi, Gekidou, the truth, UNKNOWN ORCHESTRA Mr. Children - GIFT, Hanabi, Kuchibue, Sign, HERO Porno Graffitti - Neo Melodramatic, Agehachou, Koyoi Tsuki ga Miezu Tomo BONNIE PINK - Water Me (could not stop listening to this for ages) Kimaguren - AiNEED, LIFE, Moshi Kimi to THE ALFEE - Faith of Love, Dear My Life, Juliet Perfume - One Room Disco, Dream Fighter, Edge Capsule - JUMPER, Music Controller (remix version is my favorite) The Back Horn - Requiem, Wana, Kakusei HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR - goover, Kirakira Summer, TOXIC, ROSIER Ryohei Yamamoto - Fly, One Love, Relisten Tourbillon - Break the Chain, Lily flumpool - Over the Rain, Dear Mr. & Ms. Picaresque Quote:

I mostly Listen to Aural Vampire. and any Electroo Muzzik, x3

I mainly listen to J-Pop and I pretty much only listen to Hello Project groups. My favorite would have to be Berryz Kobo, Ice Creamusume, and Morning Musume. I'm actually listening to a song by Morning Musume right now!
|
Most Japanese music I listen to is anime related... I'm such a nerd. >.>
I have a new obsession with Character Songs. I didn't even know they existed until a while ago. But most of them are so darn catchy! If I haven't seen the show, I probably won't listen to the songs though. :P |
Most Japanese Music I listen to is related to Anime or from Anime.
The Japanese band I mostly listen to is An Cafe. |
The Japanese music I listen to are from Jrock bands.. I also like Koreans who sing Japanese music.
|

POKEMON MUSIC LAWLZ. Hey some pokemon music are somewhat japanese..ish. Like Ho-Oh's theme from HG/SS.>.> YUI! I love her.<3 She's such a good singer. So I listen to pretty much Japanese rock than pop. |
I listen to Korean music normally, so I really only know of Korean artists that have done Japanese songs/albums, such as:

I also listen to ;
Keiko Fuji Miyuu Sawai I only found out those tow because Keiko's Daughter Is Hikaru Utada and Miyuu is from PGSM.(Usagi) |
I listen to Japanese music mostly because of Anime openings. I find out about a song I like and listen to the bands other song. I only listen to Japanese rock though, it's the most appealing genre to me and at it's best, Japanese rock is better than normal rock. My favourite bands are probably Nobodyknows+ and Aqua Timez.
|
Lots of Japanese instrumental rock and soundtracks really. There are a few alternative and heavy bands (HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR, Envy...)
|

Quote:
Granted, most of the bands I've listed here fall into that image category... xD; But I'm not sure what affect it has on the actual music. Most of the bands are either rock or metal:
|
I don't listen to Japanese music.
|
Quote:
Moonlight Legend ~ Sailor Moon ~ Japanese Theme Tune <3 |
I listen to the deathnote bands Nightmare and Maximum the hormone =D
|
Mostly J-pop associated with anime (not necessarily the OP/ED but also music featured in the program). Ayako Kawasumi has done several that I like, including composing the opening piece for Piano.
|
c'mon y'all. this j-pop/j-rock anime stuff is all well and good if that's what you dig, but nobody's into the huge japanoise/experimental/jazz/rock stuff? some of the world's most cutting edge musicians are from japan. check it:
mono (very cinematic instrumental post-rock, gorgeous gorgeous) merzbow (harsh noise/experimental/extreme) fushitsusha/keiji haino (noise/experimental/rock) Les Rallizes Dénudés (noise/experimental/rock) ACID MOTHERS TEMPLE (all you classic rock led zeppelin pink floyd dudes better check this out, 1000x more psychedelic than all of that) Boris (probably my favorite metal/doom band, cool stuff, variety of styles) GROUND-ZERO/Otomo Yoshihide (great experimental/noise/free jazz) but the greatest of all of these is a little osaka band known as BOREDOMS! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FK4JAnszGvk everyone should hear their albums VISION CREATION NEWSUN and SUPER AE. look those up. essential, mindblowing, avant-garde, everything. you'll never look at rock music the same again. http://img384.imageshack.us/img384/3594/borbw1.jpg BOREDOMS! |
These days, it's really only Vocaloid, though I do like Koda Kumi's music. Hatsune Miku ftw.
|
Beck, it's from an anime and it's so good :)
|
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni stuff. Nuf said
|
I like Utada Hikaru, Mika Nakashima, L'Arc~en~Ciel, THE BACK HORN...but my favorite lately has been Ayumi Hamasaki! Her lyrics are so poignant and her music is well-composed (even the ones she composed herself are really good).
|

The opening of 'What's up People' by Maximum the Hormone is funny/cool/wtf though. |
I also like Misono. Koda Kumi's Younger Sister. After Them Making A Single Together I've done some....Re-search.
|
Mainly underground doujin stuff. A while back, it was a lot of J-Pop and such, but nowadays, it's a lot of J-core/trance with some jazz and rock thrown in. Not really a fan of anime music. :\

Well, my favourite bands & singers are: Malice Mizer, GACKT, Közi, Versailles -Philharmonic Quintet-, The Candy Spooky Theater, KneuKlid Romance, Kaya, Klaha, X Japan, PENICILLIN, and some others too. I just say the ones that I listen the most, because there's some artists that I listen just about five songs or less, so... ^-^" But I count to hear more of them, of course. I discover little by little, we'll say. ^w^ Psychedelic Violence Crime of Visual Shock X3 |
I don't listen to Japanese music as much as I used to, but I LOVE AYU!!!! :D
Oh and Megumi Hayashibara. |
I mostly listen to soundtracks from anime or games. Otherwise I really like a couple songs by angela.
|
Hello Sir,
I am Frank.I read your entire post.I grew up on show tunes and movie soundtracks,I was even more exposed to movie related music by his listening to movie scores. Because of my background with movie music, I really like anime music.Anime is pretty nifty in the sense that it’s the whole package visually as well as audibly.Firstly we’re entertained by the putty pictures on the TV screen, then we pop the soundtrack in the stereo and presto, more entertainment! I’m still new and absolutely unexposed to j-R, J-Pop, Visual Kei and all that good stuff so I can’t even tell you if I’d like any of it. I can tell you, however, that the Japanese bands I’ve seen on the net look damn cool. Thank you very much and Stay connected with me. |
I mostly like listening to anime OSTs and music from various video games like the Persona series
My fav genre is J-pop and J-rock |
I can agree that the only Japanese songs I listen to are from anime and video games... my favorite songs from anime are Kawaita Sakebi from Yu-Gi-Oh! and My Will from InuYasha.

JElectro & JUrban, mostly.
Anyone from DTOPIA and contemode. Which includes Aira Mitsuki (SHE'S A POKEFAN) and Perfume (and capsule, mentioned because I have serious love for them). SAWA has been getting a lot better, but I've always liked her. Nujabes, Thelma Aoyama, Miliyah Kato... These are good examples of who I like on the JUrban side of the spectrum. |
I tend to listen to j-ska more than anything else. Bands like Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra, Muramasa, midnightPumpkin, Ore Ska Band, GOLLBETTY, and as such. I will admit that some anime songs rope me in, but that's a rare occasion.
|
Yeah... all songs that are from anime basically... aha. Anime is my only reference to Japanese music. :) |
