WRITE/SPEAK NORMALLY OR DONT SAY ANYTHING AT ALL!!!!

Okay, Ignore the title if you think I'm gonna yell at you. Anyways, do you hate it when people come on PC(Or anyother forum) and use text/MSN speak like -

I don't respond when people type like that usually. If they type like that on msn I set my status to busy.

Esper September 6th, 2009 8:22 AM

It bugs me. I notice a lot of overlap among text speak, bad grammar, and general thoughtlessness. If I can actually translate what someone is trying to say, and I still feel like responding, I'll throw at them as many big words as I can as a not-so-subtle hint that they should think about what they are typing and to study there inglish moar.

Azonic September 6th, 2009 8:31 AM

On MSN, I often type "u" instead of "you" because it's faster. And I don't really use capital letters on MSN. But i dunt go all out liek dis lol :p

No, you fail September 6th, 2009 8:32 AM

I'll type like that if i am busy and just trying to leave a quick reply but most of the time i will use correct grammar.

ReignOfComputer September 6th, 2009 8:37 AM

I'm fine with it as long as it makes sense. I like keeping my sentences well structured. Why? I don't really know myself. It's become habitual xD

Timbjerr September 6th, 2009 10:28 AM

I can usually decipher text-speak, but I hate seeing it on a forum like this. :P

You'll often see me using text speak whenever I'm posting something sarcastic or just imitating a n00b. :D

Zero° September 6th, 2009 10:33 AM

Yeah I don't like that. I, like cookie, speak speak/type with proper grammar, unless I'm joking.

Luck September 6th, 2009 10:46 AM

No, I absolutely hate it when pepl typ liek dis. There is no point in sounding illiterate. It makes the human I.Q go down one notch.

emoBill™ September 6th, 2009 11:20 AM

The only time I even think about typing in Internet shorthand is in IM, and even then it's not 'all leik dis'. I only type 'u' for 'you' or 'r' for 'are', etc. And that's only to cut down on the time it takes to type. Usually even on IM, I'm good about my grammar/spelling.

Captain Fabio September 6th, 2009 11:25 AM

I dnt lik it whn pplz us cht spk.

Camisado September 6th, 2009 11:41 AM

The worst I do is forget about capital letters on MSN, but everywhere else I'm very careful.

It takes me a really long time to write or read chatspeak. Also I die a little inside every time. =|

(What's also funny is that if I try to mimic chatspeak on my BlackBerry, it autocorrects it to proper English anyway...ahaha. xD)

Synaesthesia September 6th, 2009 11:45 AM

I find it kinda funny, as long as they're not serious. If that's actually how they talk, then wow that's pitiful. I myself aren't very good at it though n.n'

Rokusasu September 6th, 2009 12:24 PM

Yeah, it irritates me when people use chatspeak, but I keep quiet about it to avoid making myself look arrogant or something. XD I don't mind so much on MSN and stuff.

Alexithymia~ September 6th, 2009 12:35 PM

I always type with proper grammar and spelling unless I'm joking ;3

yo dude, u likez me tIping like dees?

.. Yeah, I hate people who type like that. I don't normally reply..

Melody September 6th, 2009 12:35 PM

I don't like chatspeak either, so I tend to refuse to take shortcuts whenever possible. I like typing in proper english thank you very much. :D

That being said, there are certain abbreviations I do use like lol, nvm, and a few others, but those phrases have a set meaning, and aren't a lazy way to type 'you' or other small words. It irks me to no end when people abbreviate words that are naturally less than 5 characters long anyways, doing so makes you look like an uneducated idiot. >_>

Signomi September 6th, 2009 12:48 PM

I have got to be one of the few people who can actually look at that sort of speak and react as if they typed with correct spelling and grammar, probably because I've been able to talk to my friends from college with them talking to me like that, and truthfully? Most of the time it doesn't take half a brain to understand a lot of the things they say to me, so I'm just used to it on both ends.

I really despise the idea of holding someone's typing etiquette against them to the point I'd refuse to get to know them as a person, because that would just make me feel as though I were horribly judgemental and discriminate. I just can't look down upon somebody who types like that. Heck, I'd really feel warm and appreciated knowing that person would take some of their time just to talk to me, so I just really want to get along with them either way. However, I would respond to them without any abbreviations whatsoever, because it wouldn't be like me to respond in the fashion they do.

s0nido September 6th, 2009 12:54 PM

I have no idea why people use chat speak on forums. There's no rush to send messages, so why type like an illiterate? Even on MSN, I try to type with proper grammar and spelling, and only ignore capitalisation when I'm busy or I have to sign out.

It's really annoying when I see people typing like they're illiterates, especially on forums and on MSN. It's not like you pay for every character, or there's an obscenely low character limit of, like, 500 characters or something. It just gives you a bad reputation and everyone else a headache, so why bother?

Sammi September 6th, 2009 2:15 PM

It sort of bothers me, as I like proper grammar, but as long as I can understand them, it's not worth raising a fuss. It's the Internet. Not everyone talks the same way. It happens.

michele September 6th, 2009 5:10 PM

i don't really mind if people use a few short-form words, like "you're" to "ur". what bothers me the most is WeN pPl TaLk LyK dIs AlL dA tYmZ!!!!1243

Jack O'Neill September 6th, 2009 5:44 PM

I believe that flagrant and consistent disregard for the rules of the English language should be a ban-worthy offense. That should sum up my attitudes towards the usage of chatspeak on message boards.

The Scientist September 6th, 2009 5:57 PM

If you hate it so much, just join the Grammar Nazis.

Citrinin September 6th, 2009 7:59 PM

While I can still discuss something who types like that, I'd much prefer they speak in proper English. ;x

Ru September 6th, 2009 8:03 PM

It irritates me. However, I don't really show how much it irritates me. I guess it's because I'm used to it because one friend always and I mean always type like that and I've given up trying to get her to type right. . Only time I would use 'chatspeak' is when I'm saying 'srsly' or 'idk', and those aren't bad at all, I would think.

BJ088 September 6th, 2009 8:36 PM

Apparently it's easier to SpEaKkkk lYk DiS dEeZ DaYzzzzz.

How can that be easier than typing normally. Take you double the time dammit!
