Linux and DVDs D:
Linux is... really annoying :|
My speakers are only clear on it, and its some problem with the windows drivers, and when I try to watch DVDs on linux, they dont work. I'm pretty sure it has encryption, and it has a DVD menu. Has anyone here gotten them to work? |

When ever I watch DVD's I watch them on Ubuntu Linux. The reason they don't work straight out of the box on both Windows and Linux is a licensing issue. If you are using a distribution like Ubuntu or Mandriva you can buy the required software from the companies that provide the distributions. You can also, If certain countries laws don't prevent you, download the software free libdvdcss. When I set up an ubuntu install, I imediatly going into the package manager and install the ubuntu restricted extras, and all the gstreamer plugins. I then add the Medibuntu repository and install libdvdcss(this is the one that decrypts the DVD's) then for playin non native formats you install either the w32codecs, w64codecs, or the ppc-codecs. That's all there is too it, hope I helped. |
yes I have already tried libdvdcss it hasnt worked for me.
I've tried it with GNOME player, the included video player, and VLC player. VLC shows title page but cant play anything (no VOB files) edit: i use ununtu |
try MPlayer, I've heard good things about it but it's interface could use a touch up to be more pretty :x

Go into Add/Remove programs and tick all the Gstreamer packages and the Ubuntu restricted extras, except the 'fluendo MPEG2 demuxing plugin' as that conflicts with the restricted extras. Next click apply. Now copy this into the terminal: Code:

Might be a hardware problem too? I know Ubuntu hates my hardware setup with a passion. It hates my motherboard, my video card, the works. So there might be the possibility of the hardware it self.

Try using ALSA or OSS instead of what I assume you're using (Pulse Audio).
