Trophies/Achievements

With the PS3 & XBOX 360, players can collect trophies or achievements by doing various activities or meeting certain requirements. It is a fun option/addition to have to games as it makes you want to try to get all of them or try to collect as much.

I'm one of those people who try to collect trophies as i go on with the game, since it's nice, makes it feel like your completing the game fully rather than just finishing the game itself.

I'm not sure if everyone has the same view as me, but it's good to share :D

Achievements are brilliant and they certainly make games like Left4Dead and, now you get clothing for some achievements, even better.

I wish my DS had achievements, it feels like a big part of the game taken away.

Jolene September 8th, 2009 7:11 AM

I like achievements and things like that as long as they're fun to get. Sometimes they're not though, like when you have to play a game for 200 hours to earn an achievement - I don't like that kind of stuff.

Certainly. Trophies just make the game a little bit more fun.
It certainly would have been good to have on DS seeing as i don't even play it anymore :(

Things like that, you might get without realizing it since if the game is really good and has if the game can be played over again (sometimes on a harder difficulty) you could get them.

However those trophies are tedious.

If any achievements require me to collect one hundred or more of an item, I don't bother. The other ones can be fun, but seriously...item collecting is not my thing. I think the only games I'm extremely close to getting 100% of the achievements in are Dead Rising and Bioshock. The last few achievements I need in Dead Rising require you to spend nine or so REAL hours playing the game and the last one in Bioshock is collecting all of the voice recordings (i.e. item collecting), so it's not happening for me. XD

I love collecting trophies. It just addes something extra to the game. I have done every original trophy on WaW and every trophy from map pack 2, with only a few left from map pack 3 to regain my 100%.

I am also doing all the Fifa 09 and Resistance to trophies at the minute. So yep I love trophies.

Gunn September 8th, 2009 9:10 AM

I don't care what it takes to get an achievement; I still go for it. Though, the ones that I probably don't care much for or have a hard time getting are multiplayer achievements.

But yeah, achievements are a nice addition for gaming. I try to collect as many as I can so I can feel that I completed a game. I don't like leaving my games under around... 700G though. I usually aim at getting all of them.

I love the idea of them.
I love to collect them and it drives me to finish a game.

Instead of having just bragging rights, you have something, not physical, but something to show for it.

And Fat Princess makes them so much fun.

Fox♠ September 8th, 2009 11:13 AM

As long as my trophy count is higher than Alinthea's I am happy ahahahaha.

Captain Fabio September 8th, 2009 11:35 AM

I have a job, Fox :P
So it will always be higher :P

TRIFORCE89 September 8th, 2009 11:41 AM

I don't go out of my way to gather them. If I happen to get one, yippee. I don't really care. They're an unnecessary feature to artificially extend the length of the game.

Kerotan September 8th, 2009 4:01 PM

I usually play the game through once, ignoring trophies, then I try to get as many possible trophies as I can.
I love the trophies in L4D, even though I can BARELY get through expert mode. >.<

I hope you're not trying to do that alone. :P It helps if you have someone with you.

Avatar September 9th, 2009 4:50 AM

L4D's Expert mode is a cakewalk if you play with competent people.

As for achievements. They're nice, though I personally don't care much for multiplayer ones.

twocows September 9th, 2009 6:09 AM

Somebody mention achievements? BTW, I was able to do it in 499.93 seconds. :P

If anyone wants to play some L4D, add me to your friends list and I'll be happy to play almost anytime.

I just managed to complete Prince of Persia, now going to go through it again collecting the trophies that i missed out :D

I just started WaW, trophies are so hard to get :( I'm not really good at FPS.
I'm also doing trying to get all the FIFA09 ones. Some are hard, like play 50 hour one :(

Rokusasu September 9th, 2009 1:17 PM

So long as the requirements don't waste too much of my time, then I will go for them. :D

Hassamu September 9th, 2009 1:36 PM

I try to get as many as I can, but I rarely go back to get ones I have missed once I have finished the game and got bored of it..

The exception to this is Halo 3 though, seeing as achievements unlock more armour for online.
This new 'Get achievements to unlock new clothes for your avatar' thing might change my stance though.

Oh for the play 50 hours one I just start a 20 minute match then leave the ps3 to run through the half without me actually playing. You don't have to do anything for it to class you as playing. Just aslong as you are in a game.

WaW on Veteran took me ages. Well over 20+ hours but after doing it I felt a great achievement.
