Did Your Schol Watch the Speech?
I'm wondering as to how many schools actually allowed the kids to watch the Obama speech.
Seeing mine didn't, say it was to "political". So please tell me if your school let you see it and what are your thoughts? Please excuse the missing o in school =/ |
my school didn't, seeing as we're canadian. but when it was announced that obama had won my english teacher [at the time] started to cry in class because she was so happy.
I think we were going to but our teahcers never told us where to go when it was on.
I live in a very conservative area, so the odds of Obama's speech/alleged commie brainwashing scheme being watched are quite low. Everyone taking it entirely the wrong way is a very high prospect, however.
My last school watched it when he was elected. But my current school..didn't today.
The closest thing to that is some idiot going "Obama isn't black. He is half white and half muslim. He isn't even American born. No American has that kind of nose." :| |
I saw it my school, turn out is was about how people should never give up, work hard and take things seriously enough to be successful in life. Sounds like brainwashing to me.
Nope, they never even brought it up. Good, I didn't want to hear it anyway, although we have "class meetings" tomorrow, maybe they'll brainwash us then.
Obama is gonna be put visions of kool-aid and chicken in our minds.
While McCain would've put the military draft and guns in our minds. You tell me whats better? |
I lived in a very conservative town, but our Democratic art teacher made us watch it. (Not taking any sides, btdubz >.>)
I think my school had it on during our lunch period. I didn't watch it though, due to my extreme dislike for Obama.
No.
I happen to live in a very conservative area. Some parents even threatened to keep their kids home from school if schools played the speech. .____. Oh, but we did watch it during the election day. So I was kind of hoping we would watch the speech today. |
no i wish, though lawl xD

No... Not today, anyway. Apparently my school taped it and we're supposed to watch it tomorrow during whatever social studies class we have.
Wow, this country's cultlike admiration of the man is getting close to making me turn my back on him. I supported his campaign during the election, but when the populace as a whole seem too blinded by their leader's charisma to acknowledge the mediocre job he's doing, it's a bad sign for the aggregate intelligence of the nation...
...the irony is that Obama was the "smart man's" choice during the election. XD |
My school saw it, and I'm pleased to say that my worries about Obama giving a politically-influenced speech were unjustified. It was a nice, non-political speech. Even though I disagree with many of the president's policies, I have to admire his exceptional public speaking skills.
I watched the speech! It was an optional thing for the teachers and mine wanted it on, so he just turned on the tv and we watched the speech. I believe my class was the only one in the school who watched it though :/. I have to say though, the speech really did give me hope. I realized how human our president is and how much we mean to our country. All of us right now are just depending on the older generations. They find the cures to diseases. They run our governments. Some of us may be adults and do more things than the majority of us, but we all still depend on our older generations much more. President Obama made me realize that we can't depend on them forever. What are we going to do for the younger generations? It was a powerful moment for me.
I didn't get to see it, as I was at home, but I bet I'll find it on YouTube or something later. A word of caution though, I've noticed Obama has quite the silver tongue: don't take hardly anything he says at face value.
Nope, we didnt, and were not, dont want to see it myself.
Have no desire to see it, at all. |
... He made a speech?
And didn't he win the election like... ages ago? I'm confused, not even sure why he'd need to make a speech, lol. |

Why does that sound like meaningless paranoia to me? I mean, come on, its a speech to the students about how hard work and determination, especially in school, will make you successful in life. Whats the meaning behind something like that? |
I saw the speech when he was elected, well actually my math teacher played it while the class just lolled around, but I didn't even hear about it today until I got home and my mom asked me if I'd seen it. Funny, you'd think schools would be nagging teachers to show a speech about education...o.O
As I am not in school, I didn't see any speech. I live in a very very VERY Republican state. It gets annoying how much people complain about Obama. Not to mention I've seen kids complain about him, when a good majority of them are just repeating what their parents have said. I can't even drive down the highway without seeing someones spray painted plywood board complaining. Is he a bad president? It's far to early to tell. Did I vote for him? No, I was 17 at the time. 18 less then a month later.
It was a load of crock. He only looked left and right at his one way teleprompters giving this lecture junk that my parents told me before I went to school for the first time.
Well I havent seen it beacuse I shift from High school, to college and back to high school. I have a paper for my American Goverment class to do on it though. Other than that, I jeard people were getting upset about this and even cursing Obama out because what he was doing was a "disgrace". I thought that it was a good thing for a busy man such as himself to come out and talk to students like that and that to me should make a great impact on todays youth.
