The Logo looks promising. :)

Discuss.

Klippy September 8th, 2009 7:42 PM

Not even going to hold my breath. The only way I'd consider getting this is if it was classified as the gaming experience of the year. XD

DonRoyale September 8th, 2009 10:24 PM

Didn't they learn the first six times they screwed up this franchise?

Captain Fabio September 9th, 2009 3:19 AM

I couldn't care less about this stupid game or the stupid franchise.
The creators are money hungry idiots that care not for the game and only what cars they can buy next.

I am not going to even look at this game once it is released. I don't even care if it has gone back to old roots and has all the old characters in it.

Sonic is dead to me and I wish people would realize this.
Maybe then they would go into liquidation when no one buys this God awful games.

@Aether - Also, why don't you put something forward to the discussion except:
"The logo looks promising."

No it doesn't. People like you annoy me. Get an opinion and don't just post a new link and "Discuss."

.Wolfie-kun. September 9th, 2009 9:16 AM

Looks promising... But I'm not getting my hopes up.

txteclipse September 9th, 2009 9:58 AM

The only way I would ever play this is if it was entitled "Sonic the Hedgehog 4."

EDIT: Or "Sonic and Knuckles 2."

EDIT EDIT: Or the teaser website looked like this, implying that it is in fact a return to roots.

Actually, the logo does look promising. It's the same or similar to the ones from the Genesis games, i.e. arguably the best Sonic games ever made. Although...that silhouette doesn't exactly look like Sonic, does it? And now it seems odd that they deliberately said "speed returns" rather than "sonic returns" in the trailer.

.Wolfie-kun. September 9th, 2009 10:08 AM

I'll only become totally excited if it's going to be like Sonic 2 or S&K, hell I even agree with txteclipse on the whole Sonic and Knuckles 2 part.

I can bet you right now, that this new game will not even come close to the older games.
The reason is the old Sonic team is no longer.

I will shove forks into my eyes if I actually, genuinely enjoy this new Sonic game.

There is more chance of Spey becoming ruler of the world than that ever happening.

Okay then. Be sure to film that for our benefit.

Jesus Christ, my typing is wasted on you.

Rogue planet September 9th, 2009 10:46 AM

I havn't enjoyed a Sonic game since Sonic 3.
I thought only furries enjoyed the modern Sonic games anyway.

Edit: Just noticed this.

lol wut.
The logo means nothing, I don't care if it blows my mind and sends my consciousness into oblivion, it doesn't mean that it will be a good game.

Yep. Might as well save your fingertips.

Sonic Adventure DX wasn't too bad. Otherwise...yeah. Not much going for Sonic these days.

And I would say that even most furries probably don't enjoy the more recent sorry excuses for Sonic games.

Your posts summed up: "I DIDN'T ENJOY PREVIOUS THINGS SO EVERYTHING NEW IS AUTOMATICALLY HORRIBLE AND I WON'T GIVE ANYTHING NEW A CHANCE EVER!!!!!! THE ONLY GOOD THINGS IN THE WORLD ARE FIFTEEN YEARS OLD!! YOU WHIPPERSNAPPERS!"

Please, if you're not going to raise any points of why you think this game is going to be horrible outside of wrongful precedent, then please stay out of the thread. And I say wrongful, because this is confirmed to be a 2D game and you're relating it to the recent 3D games.

Hell, if you want precedent, the 2D parts of the Sonic levels in Sonic Unleashed were great. So, by your logic, this game will be great.

And the only recent Sonic game that was as bad as they claim was 2006.

First off, I wouldn't know what is good about a 15 year old. You will have to tell me sometime.

My post sums up as that? Well then you must be an idiot.
Right, that was my opinion, no matter how brutal it is, that is it. Just because I don't cuddle up to a little furry Sonic, doesn't cloud that opinion.

This is a forum, yes? And that was my opinion, yes? Well, isn't that what forums are for? I don't care if you don't like it, get over it. Just ignore the post and move on with your little Sonic.

Also, by my logic is should be good? Hold on, what did I say before. Let me show you:

There we go. Re-read and re-think that statement.

Jolene September 9th, 2009 12:29 PM

I don't really like the Sonic series very much, so this news doesn't really do anything for me.

The fans should be happy though, right? This is what they've been wanting for years now. I'd like them to be happy, anyway, because they're usually upset about Sonic games.

Mukkamoto September 9th, 2009 1:09 PM

I haven't bought a Sonic game since Sega Mega Drive/Genesis.
I think the Sonic franchise has died since then, their attempt in bringing it back isn't going to work.

Starway September 9th, 2009 1:12 PM

I was freaking out when I heard the old Sonic noises again but I feel kinda hopeful for this one since it's going back to 2-D but still let's see how Sega will work with this one. I too have also noticed that the figure (or Sonic maybe) in the logo doesn't really look like him either....maybe Sega is bringing back the old Sonic. Well for now I'll keep a lookout on this game. :D

Because sometimes they churn out gems like Valkyria Chronicles?
Honestly, Sega isn't all about Sonic.

Now if only they'd get to work on Skies of Arcadia 2.

True that! I've seen Sega made a bunch of more games than just Sonic games.

Alistair September 9th, 2009 1:32 PM

I'm really enjoying the narrow-mindedness in this thread. It stirs up some good conflicts, and it shows a bit about a person's character. ;)

About the video itself, I can't really say anything. Nothing was really shown, except for a few sound effects and the logo. There just isn't enough to pass any kind of judgement on this anouncement, yet. All I can say is I'm hopeful that this game can revitalize the series. I really enjoyed the Genesis sonic games, as well as Knuckles Chaotix and Sonic CD, and going back to the series' roots can be a good thing.

I only said "The logo looks promising" because it was a throwback from the Genesis (Read: Good) Sonic Games. It by no means implies that the game will be a hit, or even that good, I'm just hopelessly optimistic. But yes, given Sega's track record in the last 8 years with Sonic, the probability of the game sucking is still huge. The only reason I'm even giving this game a chance is because of Sega finally giving a nod to what made Sonic great.

Whut.
The weird, Tim Burton/Dr.Suess-style roots of Sonic? O.O
I'm not criticizing or anything, but if this a sign of Sega 'innovating gameplay', I'm going to have to agree with Alinthea.

EDIT: Turn down the flaming, people.

No, the 2D platforming roots of Sonic.

If the logo being similar to the Genesis games' logos means that this game is intentionally styled after them, then yes, the logo does mean something.

twocows September 9th, 2009 4:47 PM

I was going to be snarky and put a dictionary link to "cautious optimism" here, but since it's a phrase, it appears no dictionaries really have it. So I'll just link the words "cautious" and "optimism" instead.

I was being sacastic, as I don't recall any Sonic game employing such a thing.
(I.E. Not a good start for a 'good' sonic game.)

EDIT: I'm talking about the art style :D
