Do you put * after or before a word when correcting yourself?
Well, which is it? For me, I put it after. It's a habit. :)
Also some people don't even use * so tell us what you do use if you don't. |
... Yeah, before for me. After seems more like an add-on rather than a correction-- okay this is confusing me. :[ But yeah, before.
|
Befere. It looks nicer than after.
*Before. |
I always put it before, it looks better and well, it's just become a habit...
*pie~ |
On MSN, yes. On forums, no I just go back and edit my post.
|
I put it in before, it looks weird after imo.

Before, because in my opinion you're making it aware that you're correcting something before you actually correct it. o_o; Sorta like speech marks. :D
|
On forums, I will edit and fix a typo.
On MSN, rarely I will use * and besides, often I will not correct a typo. To talk to me, you need to be able to translate babble and know what I mean. ^_^ |
On IM, I put two asterisks after anything I have to correct. I've actually never seen anyone do it before the word until today. o_o;
|
i do, its less confusing that way lol
|
I only use it when I'm on instant messenger. If I'm not, then I simply go back and edit my post. I wouldn't see the use in editing to put an asterisk before/after it when I can use the same amount of time and fix the entire word. When I am on instant messenger, I put the asterisk before the word. It just looks nicer that way, and I don't know why.
|
On MSN, almost always, unless I spelt it incorrectly but you can still tell what the word is. On Forums, no, I just go back and edit my posts x3
|
After. Before just looks ridiculous to me.
|
on IM chats, it's usually after the corrected word...
in the forums themselves, I just edit it without acknowledging it. XP |
I usually put one asterisk before the word. But, if I'm feeling silly, I'll say something like: "I mean photosynthesis. I'm such a dillhead. *shot*" |
Yea, I've got that habit from one of my friends over three years ago and I still do it in AIM's and Emails
:t354:TG |
I never do, I just edit them quickly and quietly.
|
Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. I put the * before my correction when I do use it.
Blegh, I tend to make typos while correcting my topos, sooo... |
I always put it before the word. I havent added it after correcting myself before. Other times I just use - or ~ before the word instead of a *.
|
*boobs or boobs* would do fine for me. As long as people get the message that I'm correcting myself. :3
|
Before. After makes me want to look for an endnote
|
On the forums, I go back and edit my post. On MSN, I put an asterisk after.
|
Before, and only on instant messaging. On the other hand, I am notorious for modifying my own posts.
|
I alternate between them; However, it is my duty as a Grammar Nazi not to make typos.
|
I put it beofre.
*before. |
I use it most of the time when I make a mistake that will potentially prevent the correct word from being read. Other than that, I don't use it. I almost always correct my spelling before hitting enter (unless I'm too excited or angry), so I don't need to use it. Oh, but when I butcher a word...
OMG THIS IS FNATASTIC FANTISTIC FANTIATSTIC* FANTASTC** ASODIGH ;____; FANTASTIC********* That happens. XDDD; |
I do put one before a word when correcting myself on MSN.
Example: haert *heart On PC, I'd just edit my post. |
Yes I do, on the Internet. Everywhere. Forums, IM, etc. Even while texting. :P
|
Most of the time I will put * after a word to correct myself but if its a word that you can easily understand after a tiny mistake I often don't.
|
Only on AIM, really, and I use two asterisks. On forums, I just go back and edit my posts.
Normally, though, on forums, spell-check catches my typos before I hit submit, so it isn't as big a deal here. On AIM, though, since I type really quickly and hit enter without looking my responses over, I end up correcting myself a lot. xDD |
I put it before the correction.
I only use it on Instant Messaging programs, not forums. |
usually before. but i've been known to be rebellious and put it after. ;D
|
Before of course darling. :D Then it's the first thing you see when you look at the word. Or at least, that's how I like to look at it. Just my logic.
|
*Before. I didn't realize so many other people did that when correcting themselves. I must have picked it up subconsciously. :P
|
I edit if I can, but in an MMO game or chat I'll do the asterisk thingie.
After* |
It depends on how I'm feeling of course. ;D
Although, I prefer to put it before. It looks a bit cleaner, imo. |
I actually don't correct with an asterisk. :( I picked up a different habit from someone about 10 years ago and never looked bck.
back^ That's what I do, haha. It's weird but no one ever complains. :P Lately, though, I've been too lazy to put anything. If I'm correcting the word at all, I'll usually just retype the word as many times as it takes to type it right. XD; |
I put it before, it looks neeter.
*neater |
-I think most people do it before- I do as well.
|
On any messenger client I use, I place an asterisk before the corrected word. Like many of you have already said.
Funny, I didn't think anyone really placed it after the word. Not too many people I've talked to do that at least. |
Actually I do. It's easier because than my friends know I was correcting myself. Though, sometimes I typo and just leave the typos. XD
|
Always XD
It's an habit I got some years ago, and I guess it's staying XD I sometimes use "oreange -e" when I add extra letters, though. |
I don't usually correct spelling errors unless I type like I do instead of dont.. or if someone says what the tawt are you on? xD
|
Ever since I started IMing in early 2006 I've always used it before to correct myslef.
*myslef **myself (fyi above correction wasn't me confusing forum posting with IMing) XD Yeah I was introduced to it like that, most of my friends today now use it after the word, but I'm retro and still use it before. ^.^ Having: 'myself**' doesn't look as tidy personally. :S |
Before, always before.
Unless I absolutly kill a word. D8. Spoiler:
I was riding a bike. |
Before the correction, always, but only in IMs like a lot of people here.
If I'm really excited about something, I'll usually get the word wrong about five times, in which case I use about fifty asterisks. xD Like so: OH MY GOD DID YOU SEE THE NEW HG/SS TRALER. *TRALER *TRAILR *******TRAILER ASKJDGFJAS. It's usually followed by keysmashing. :D |
Like mostly everyone says:
MSN: yes. Forum: no, i just edit it. Texting: mostly. |
On Paper....I scribble over it ^_^ and Online I just edit my post. Simple!
|
I put it before. It's a habit I picked up from some old online friends several years ago. I had never seen anyone put it after until I joined PC earlier this year.
|
Lol, I had to purposely make a typo so I could remember where to put it XD
But yeah, I put mine before. \o/ |
On forums, I edit my post. On chats or places where you can't edit, I'll put my correction in astericks.
|
No way, especially on MSN, as it is way to much effort and the asterix doesn't really help much.
|
I use it before, never did after o.o
|
If I need to correct something over msn or whatver, I put the asterix before the word, not after. ^_^
That way it grabs your attention and you finish reading the word that follows. ^_^ xX |
On MSN, or other instant messengers/chatrooms, yes I do. xD
It used to be that people would use 93048923 of them.. some years ago. >.> Like: -"Hi, hoq are you?" -"how****** It's kind of like "HEY LOOK AT ME. I MADE A TYPO AND NOW ITS PAINFULLY OBVIOUS". Always made me go "o_o;" I normally only use one. xD Maaaybe two, at most. |
