-   -   Do you put * after or before a word when correcting yourself? (https://www.pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?t=194451)

Synaesthesia September 12th, 2009 6:24 PM

I put it beofre.

*before.

Michii September 13th, 2009 6:47 AM

I use it most of the time when I make a mistake that will potentially prevent the correct word from being read. Other than that, I don't use it. I almost always correct my spelling before hitting enter (unless I'm too excited or angry), so I don't need to use it. Oh, but when I butcher a word...

OMG THIS IS FNATASTIC
FANTISTIC
FANTIATSTIC*
FANTASTC**
ASODIGH ;____;
FANTASTIC*********

That happens. XDDD;

.Seth September 13th, 2009 6:55 AM

I do put one before a word when correcting myself on MSN.
Example:

haert
*heart

On PC, I'd just edit my post.

.little monster September 13th, 2009 7:09 AM

Yes I do, on the Internet. Everywhere. Forums, IM, etc. Even while texting. :P

AntLion. September 13th, 2009 9:59 AM

Most of the time I will put * after a word to correct myself but if its a word that you can easily understand after a tiny mistake I often don't.

Lana. September 13th, 2009 11:27 AM

Only on AIM, really, and I use two asterisks. On forums, I just go back and edit my posts.

Normally, though, on forums, spell-check catches my typos before I hit submit, so it isn't as big a deal here. On AIM, though, since I type really quickly and hit enter without looking my responses over, I end up correcting myself a lot. xDD

vanna. September 13th, 2009 3:17 PM

I put it before the correction.
I only use it on Instant Messaging programs, not forums.

michele September 13th, 2009 3:58 PM

usually before. but i've been known to be rebellious and put it after. ;D

Mr.Kirby September 13th, 2009 4:29 PM

Before of course darling. :D Then it's the first thing you see when you look at the word. Or at least, that's how I like to look at it. Just my logic.

Yamikarasu September 13th, 2009 6:39 PM

*Before. I didn't realize so many other people did that when correcting themselves. I must have picked it up subconsciously. :P

Åzurε September 13th, 2009 7:48 PM

I edit if I can, but in an MMO game or chat I'll do the asterisk thingie.

After*

Franceschi September 14th, 2009 7:53 AM

It depends on how I'm feeling of course. ;D

Although, I prefer to put it before. It looks a bit cleaner, imo.

Cherrim September 14th, 2009 9:26 AM

I actually don't correct with an asterisk. :( I picked up a different habit from someone about 10 years ago and never looked bck.

back^

That's what I do, haha. It's weird but no one ever complains. :P Lately, though, I've been too lazy to put anything. If I'm correcting the word at all, I'll usually just retype the word as many times as it takes to type it right. XD;

SolarAbusoru September 14th, 2009 9:31 AM

I put it before, it looks neeter.
*neater

Brofaux September 14th, 2009 2:10 PM

-I think most people do it before- I do as well.

Hiidoran September 14th, 2009 5:16 PM

On any messenger client I use, I place an asterisk before the corrected word. Like many of you have already said.

Funny, I didn't think anyone really placed it after the word. Not too many people I've talked to do that at least.

Soul Eater September 14th, 2009 11:07 PM

Actually I do. It's easier because than my friends know I was correcting myself. Though, sometimes I typo and just leave the typos. XD

Ivysaur September 15th, 2009 1:12 AM

Always XD
It's an habit I got some years ago, and I guess it's staying XD

I sometimes use "oreange -e" when I add extra letters, though.

THIRTY-SIX September 15th, 2009 1:13 AM

I don't usually correct spelling errors unless I type like I do instead of dont.. or if someone says what the tawt are you on? xD

Firebird306 September 15th, 2009 1:32 AM

Ever since I started IMing in early 2006 I've always used it before to correct myslef.
*myslef
**myself

(fyi above correction wasn't me confusing forum posting with IMing)

XD Yeah I was introduced to it like that, most of my friends today now use it after the word, but I'm retro and still use it before. ^.^

Having: 'myself**' doesn't look as tidy personally. :S

bit.trip void September 15th, 2009 1:46 AM

Before, always before.

Unless I absolutly kill a word. D8.

Stellar September 15th, 2009 1:56 AM

Before the correction, always, but only in IMs like a lot of people here.
If I'm really excited about something, I'll usually get the word wrong about five times, in which case I use about fifty asterisks. xD
Like so:
OH MY GOD DID YOU SEE THE NEW HG/SS TRALER.
*TRALER
*TRAILR
*******TRAILER ASKJDGFJAS.

It's usually followed by keysmashing. :D

Skymin September 16th, 2009 4:32 AM

Like mostly everyone says:

MSN: yes.
Forum: no, i just edit it.
Texting: mostly.

Graceful September 16th, 2009 9:30 AM

On Paper....I scribble over it ^_^ and Online I just edit my post. Simple!

X-626 September 17th, 2009 10:19 AM

I put it before. It's a habit I picked up from some old online friends several years ago. I had never seen anyone put it after until I joined PC earlier this year.
