HeartGold SoulSilver have the highest launch sales yet. How much? Well..

Its official. HGSS has broken all launch sales. In 2 days alone the initial shipment has been sold all together and its sold out all over japan. That's 1.5 million copies in 2 days. Double the platinum sales. Pokemon is in its prime time this gen and it only seems to be getting stronger. Source:

I think the overall popularity of Pokemon, added together with insane nostalgia factor of many peoples' favourite Pokemon game would be the reason for the high sales. I'm pretty shocked though, it seems that the franchise just stays floating on the water, endlessly.

I can only imagine that it'll sell incredibly well here too. Blasted Nintendo must have a pool of cash in their office. :p

Mitchman September 14th, 2009 12:51 PM

If you read the comments it seems that 1.4 million of those were pre ordered.

With the known facts that this game was highly wanted since the release of FireRed and LeafGreen plus the added nostalgia and new features with many more inclusions it was to be known that these two games alone would have hit record sales. After just a few months of brought in news about this game, fans were hooked and relieved to hear the game so many wanted would finally be remade. So, the ending result turned into this, sold out all over Japan!

As for the US and other countries as well such as the UK, Australia and more, it is really unknown how high sales would go, but recordable most likely.

Meaning 100,000 copies were store bought within these two days.
Pretty amazing how such a small card can capture so much attention. :P

Timbjerr September 14th, 2009 2:01 PM

I'm content in knowing that my purchase on its American launch date will contribute to this outstanding figure. :D

appeal to older generation pokemon fans + appeal to younger generation pokemon fans = best selling game in the series by far.

Speed September 14th, 2009 2:56 PM

I'm not really surprised, because a lot of people wanted a G/S/C remake, and they got what they wanted. I really can't wait to see how many sales it gets here.

Samme! September 14th, 2009 3:30 PM

Wow, that's amazing. Truly awesome. Maybe the U.S will out do this nice record xD

Im not surprised, HG/SS are the best Pokemon games to date, of course they will sell millions and break records! <333

CrashmanX September 14th, 2009 4:27 PM

Speaking of those numbers, this kinda makes you wonder, How many millions will be pirated in the next few days/months?

.... WHY ARE YOU ALL LOOKING AT ME??????
jk- well, i already pre-ordered both the games, so........ yeah.... i'm glad- these games are great :)

The Roshi September 14th, 2009 4:49 PM

Are they not going to sell a cheaper copy without the pokewalker? Amazing that they sold so many copies when the price is so damn high...

Azumi September 14th, 2009 4:56 PM

^ But I thought the PokeWalker was free-of-charge. D:

The Roshi September 14th, 2009 4:57 PM

Free of charge meaning it comes with the game... right? Which would mean that it adds on to the price of the package. Something changed (pokewalker is the only variable) that made the game 20 bucks higher than normal.

Well seeing as how the only ones I saw were pre-orders and they were $60 each I would assume only about 10 out of that 20 was for the Pokewalker and the other 10 for preorder and shipping/packing costs.

GunSaberSeraph September 14th, 2009 5:14 PM

I'm not surprised that HGSS sold so much. It deserves the sales, too, Their both wonderful games.

Fenrir Reki September 14th, 2009 5:23 PM

Thats pretty crazy. You dont really expect a pokemon game to do that and its pretty surprising for only a G/S remake thats on the DS. You would expect some other game on the PS3 or 360 to actually break the record for highest sales.

Actually not really. Unless my memory is failing me 4000-5000 yen is actually fairly typical for a handheld game in Japan, and HGSS was about 4200-4300 yen if I am remembering correctly. Trust me I remember the first time I saw the prices while visiting in Japan I was making an impression of a goldfish.

Sakura Rain September 14th, 2009 7:24 PM

Quite believable, seeing how popular the original Gold and Silver were. Can't wait to see how many sales it gets over here.

World King September 14th, 2009 8:46 PM

Meh, I predicted these games would outsell Platinum. Hope it has the same luck here in US.

There's no doubt that it will.
I mean they're one of the biggest gaming industries in the US, just look at the Wii (WiiSports is the most sold videogame of all time).
So, if you have that, then that's a HUGE market for them. Think of all the adertising they could do with that.

Sure, people will moan that Nintendo only did it for the money, but when you think about your comment here, it really was a smart move on Nintendo's part, as is shown by how many copies are selling already.

Pachel22 September 14th, 2009 11:54 PM

I did expect a lot of sales.
The jotho regions where popular and where big to.
It isn't a waste of money to buy these games their just fantastic.

It will. It's the only game that has the ability to revive those who have lost interesting in pokemon to come back. After all it's the remake of the best game ;)
