Yeah it stacked and increased by 25% more damage with each one you pull off.

ev training question

So my question is if you catch a hi lvl legendary pokemon for example zapdos witch is caught t at lvl 60 does it matter if you ev train it if your going to use if in the battle fronter?

Detox January 31st, 2011 5:18 PM

Yes, the Effort Values will help its stats reach the maximum value, thus you will find it performs better in battles.

Yes Evs still matter in the frontier.

Breeding related opinions

Have bred for HGSS Hippopotas, egg moved. Results:

male Hippopotas (two)
-revenge
-slack off
-curse/stockpile
-stealth rock

just wondering what sort of "Revenge Hippowdon" to consider out of this. Have used Curse/Revenge/Slack Off to decent success on PO's server. Am uncertain of fourth moveslot as well as whether to give different EV's, nature, and final moveslot option when I also enjoy the idea of Stockpile and Revenge.

Advice appreciated.

How would I want to go about making these pokemon I like, into a viable team:

Dragonite, Kingdra, Umbreon, Kabutops, Espeon, Gardevoir, Arcanine, Crobat, Victreebel, Cradily
(favorite pokemon, any six of these would be great, but love other pokemon as well :P)

My current team setup is like this:

Heracross: 324 HP
Attack 280
defense 201
sp attack 118
sp defense 246
speed 205
megahorn, close combat, brick break, aerial ace

kingdra: 290 HP
Attack 222
defense 220
sp attack 216
sp defense 272
speed 203
surf, brine, dragon pulse, ice beam

Houndoom: 295 HP
Attack 215
defense 151
sp attack 246
sp defense 209
speed 245
crunch, faint attack, flamethrower, shadow ball

Venusaur: 310HP
Attack 199
defense 221
sp attack 236
sp defense 237
speed 183
solar beam, sludge bomb, earthquake, sunny day

Raichu: 257HP
Attack 221
defense 153
sp attack 226
sp defense 221
speed 250
thunderbolt, iron tail, dig, quick attack

Dragonite: 331HP
Attack 312
defense 250
sp attack 209
sp defense 232
speed 237
Outrage, Fly, Waterfall, Fire Punch

I never set up a strategy and just chose pokemon that covered a wide element type, using them all as hitters, so don't exactly have a set strategy. XD Sorry if this is not enough info and such, just trying to get a good grasp of an actual competitive team I never trained them based on IV/EV for I really just have no idea on how to go about doing so whatsoever. This is a repost since I really hadn't gotten any advice, sorry about that.

Kingdra, Venusaur and Raichu are a must to keep.
Kingdra practically owns with only Dragon weakness. Raichu could be a type-covering person but it's up to you to switch.
Espeon would be a great choice, if you're doing WiFi battling, as it's good at Baton Passing. Teach it Psychic, Substitute, Baton Pass and Calm Mind. In the battle, the first move will be Substitute, then keep going for Calm Minds and when your Sp. Atk and Sp. Def are maxed, Baton Pass to a Special Attacker on your team and the rest is up to you to decide how to sweep to victory.
Arcanine excels with Extremespeed. Houdoom can be a cover for Espeon's weakness to Psychic and Ghost. If you're in need for defensive walls, Cradily is the best for you. Or just stick to Heracross for offense. Hope I help! :)

Earthquake > Revenge. Revenge sucks honestly and EQ gets STAB.

Toxic or Roar > SR with Stockpile. SR doesn't fit on that set. Use Stone Edge if you use Curse.

ToWriteLove February 3rd, 2011 7:41 AM

Okay, so are their movesets good or should I switch them up? If I use kingdra, raichu, cenusaur, arcanine, and espeon, what kind of Pokemon would I want the sixth slot to go to?

Human February 3rd, 2011 1:14 PM

I have no idea how to do damage calcs, so I'm wondering if someone can help me with a strange question.

I'm wondering how much an Adamant Dewgong holding a Choice Band using Aqua Jet would do to a Hasty Heatran, and also how much that same Dewgon's Ice Shard would do to Jolly Gliscor.

Thanks! :D

Aqua Jet Vs Heatran : 47.1% - 56.3%

Ice Shard Vs Gliscor : 67.8% - 81.4%

Thank you very much. Those are pretty good numbers, especially if I have some form of entry hazards down.

After all, who's going to see an adamant, choiced Dewgong coming?

Any recommedations of what moveset I should use with them?

Raikou @ Choice Scarf
252 SAtk / 252 Spd / 6 Hp
Rash Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Shadow Ball
- Aura Sphere

Since its nature is set to Rash its better with a Scarf Revenge killing set.

Entie @ Choice Band
252 Atk / 252 Spd / 6 Hp
Adamant Nature
- Flare Blitz
- Extremespeed
- Stone Edge
- Return / Iron Head

Physical attacker.

Suicune @ Leftovers
252 Hp / 252 Def / 6 Spd
Relaxed Nature
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Calm Mind / Roar
- Surf

OR

Suicune @ Leftovers
252 Hp / 252 Def / 6 Spd
Relaxed Nature
- Rest
- Roar / Ice Beam
- Calm Mind
- Surf

Tank.

What are the pros & cons of the 2 Suicune sets you recommeded?

Rest without Sleep Talk makes you set up fodder for 2 turns whilst the set with Sleep Talk lacks coverage basically.

Ok, thanks!
I'll have to think carefully on what set I like better for Suicune...

Garrabutártulo February 8th, 2011 7:43 AM

Ok, I just wanted to ask what do you think about a physical Celebi. I looked at smogon and couldn't find a set.
I thought about swords dance, seed bomb, zen headbutt and recover/u-turn with jolly nature...

Celebi is inferior to basically every other grass type sweeper at Swords Dance Sweeping, it simply lacks the coverage of things like Venusaur etc, however it is a very good SD passer.

Celebi @ Leftovers / Occa Berry
252 HP / 252 Spd / 4 Atk
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Baton Pass
- Recover / Magic Coat (gen 5, to reflect WW/Roar) / Substitute
- Seed Bomb / Magic Coat / Substitute

Jirachi is a pretty terrible lead these days i honestly wouldn't use it. Its better as CM sweeper or just a Scarfer.

Latios @ Choice Specs
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 6 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Draco Meteor
- Surf
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Trick

The feared Specs Latios. Draco Meteors destroys nearly everything, even some who resist it such as Scizor. Trick walls such as Blissey and Surf and Hidden Power Fire hit all the problematic Pokemon like Heatran, Tyranitar and Ferrothorn respectively.

Latios @ Life Orb
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 6 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Draco Meteor
- Surf
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Recover / Psycho Shock

Same as the above set but as a LO tank. Psycho Shock is an option for special walls.

Latios @ Life Orb
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 6 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Calm Mind
- Dragon Pulse
- Surf
- Recover / Hidden Power [Fire]

Offensive Calm Mind. Bear in mind though without HP Fire Ferrothorn poops on you.

Tumalaz February 10th, 2011 8:15 AM

What are the best places to EV-train for each stat?

They can be in Platinum or HGSS :)

Human February 10th, 2011 9:01 PM

I can't seem to find it anywhere, so I'll ask here: what are some of the new and/or most popular leads in the 5th gen meta so far?

Aside from this annoying thing, or course.

http://archives.bulbagarden.net/media/upload/6/6d/Spr_5b_547.png

Skip Shot February 10th, 2011 10:11 PM

Well 5th gen meta its kind of hard to define anything as actual leads thanks to the annoying Wifi clause =/ but im pretty sure that Espeon, Xatu, Tyranitar, Voltorus, and Mienshao head the list.

Vrai February 11th, 2011 4:00 AM

I find that Erufuun hardly leads at all. I usually see what Skippy said but adding Politoed and Hippowdon.

Bulldogger February 11th, 2011 2:07 PM

Okay, I am not really knowledgable about Team set ups and things along that line, I am just now getting into the whole Wi-Fi part of Pokemon...

I like Houndoom and want to know what is the most effective moveset for my favorite Hell-Puppy.

Baker's Bulbasaur February 11th, 2011 2:16 PM

Basically I have only jsut got back into playing pokemon again, but have already become immediately addicted!
I have never shown an interest in playing competitively, which is why I don't play online or over WiFi, people take it too seriously me thinks lol.

But I am at a point where I have never bothered facing or beaten toe battle frontier stuff, so I am in need of a team that will actually be good, also I am generally just interested to see what alterations anyone would make to my team.

Gengar:
Dark Pulse
Shadow Ball
Mean Look
Confuse Ray

Garchomp
Dragon Rush
Dragon Claw
Flamethrower
Surf

Staraptor
Aerial Ace
Brave Bird
Fly
Close Combat

Salemence
Flamethrower
Zen Headbut
Dragon Claw
Fly

Raichu
Thunder
Quick Attack
Thunderbolt
Light Screen

Lucario
Close Combat
Aura Sphere
Extreme Speed
Dragon Pulse

I know, pretty lame huh?
But they are all pokemon I like and that's all that matters to me, I don't mind suggestions for changing 1 or 2 of the pokemon, but certaintly not the whole team. It's mainly what move changes people believe I should make.

Any help would be greatly appreciated
^^

Houndoom @ Passho Berry
6 Def / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
Trait : Flash Fire
- Nasty Plot
- Fire Blast
- Dark Pulse
- Hidden Power [Grass] / Hidden Power [Fighting]

Special sweeper. Use HP Grass in UU and HP Fighting in OU for T-Tar and Heatran.

Houndoom @ Life Orb
252 Atk / 32 SpA / 224 Spe
Hasty Nature
Trait : Flash Fire
- Pursuit
- Sucker Punch
- Crunch
- Overheat / Fire Blast

Mix Attacker. Pursuit to trap junk, Sucker Punch for priority and Crunch for reliability against things like Chansey.

Houndoom @ Life Orb
100 Atk / 184 SpA / 224 Spe
Hasty Nature
Trait : Flash Fire
- Nasty Plot
- Fire Blast
- Dark Pulse
- Sucker Punch

Mix Nasty Plot. Only for use in UU. Sucker Punch picks of scarfers and Dugtrio looking to smash you.

Best General Tank/Staller?

Looking for a good general staller/tank for my team and have a few in mind, was just wondering what your opinions are?:

Dusclops:

http://www.smogon.com/download/sprites/dp/356.png
High Sp. Def, Def and HP Evs
Toxic
Rest
Impison
Mean Look

Mean Look so they can't switch,
Impison so they can't use Rest, Toxic or Mean Look
Then Toxic them.
They can't switch out, you keep healing with Leftover and rest

Registeel:

http://www.smogon.com/download/sprites/rs/379.png
High HP and Sp. Def. Evs
Rest
Sleep Talk
Toxic
Sesmic Toss/Earthquake

Seismic Toss is better than Earthquake, but Earthquake can be used to hit Steels and Poisons, who are immune to Toxic.

Walrein:

http://www.smogon.com/download/sprites/rs/365.png
High Sp. Def, Def and HP Evs
Rest
Sleep Talk
Ice Beam
Toxic/Hidden Power Grass

High HP means this thing never dies, Hidden Power Grass is used for other Waters.

Claydol:
http://www.smogon.com/download/sprites/dp/344.png
High HP and Def Evs
Cosmic Power
Rapid Spin
Psychic/EQ/Explosion
Shadow Ball

The only pokemon that are immune to rapid spin are ghosts, so use Shadow Ball.

Blissey:

http://www.smogon.com/download/sprites/dp/242.png
High HP and Def Evs
Aromatherapy
Softboiled
Sesmic Toss
Thunderwave/Toxic

More of a healer than a tank/staller, switch out a Sp. Attacker and use aromatherapy to heal status ailments. Softboiled for instant recovery and sesmic toss for constant damage.

Pink Typholsion February 12th, 2011 5:10 PM

Have you tried Roobushin??

http://shaym.in/media/bw-sprites/534.png

move 1: Bulk Up
move 2: Mach Punch
move 3: Rock Slide / Stone Edge
move 4: Payback / Hammer Arm
ability: Guts
item: Toxic Orb
evs: 120 HP | 252 Atk | 136 SpD
nature: Adamant

Ninja Caterpie February 12th, 2011 6:33 PM

@above I'm pretty sure it's not 5th gen; might not even be 4th gen (Dusclops?), and Roobushin isn't really a "staller" in the sense that Magmorter asked for.

We don't know the rest of your team, so we can't exactly help you that well because we don't know what the team needs (eg. if your team is SR weak, Walrein wouldn't be too good an idea). Generally, I suppose Blissey would be the superior option.

Magmorter February 12th, 2011 7:11 PM

Ok well I'm currently putting a competative team together but have only Ev'ed two pokemon, Alakazam and Salamence, so I'm trying to work out what other pokemon I should EV up and add to my Team. Anyways, heres my two:

Salamence: (Attack Sweeper) Nature: Adamant

http://www.smogon.com/download/sprites/dp/373.png

148 HP / 248 Atk / 112 Spd evs

Fly

Earthquake
Dragon Dance
Rock Slide

Alakazam: (Sp. Attack Sweeper) Nature: Modest
http://www.smogon.com/download/sprites/dp/65.png

4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spd
Psychic
Grass Knot
Focus Blast
Shadow Ball
__________________________________________-

So I was thinking Of adding Chansey as a Utility/Tank and Dusclops as Tank/Staller. I'd still have two other spots for maybe an element/type advantage attacker and maybe a utility attack hybrid? not really sure, but advice would be much appreciated. :)

Ninja Caterpie February 12th, 2011 7:34 PM

Mence is banned in 4th gen, just sayin'.

Alakazam is also frail and pretty bad. You could probably put Starmie, Gengar or Togekiss over it (personally, I'd put Starmie):

Starmie @ Life Orb/Choice Scarf
Nature Cure // Modest
252 SpAtt/252 Spd/4 SpDef
Surf
Ice Beam
Thunderbolt
Recover/Rapid Spin/Trick

For the last slot, Recover and Rapid Spin are whichever you want more for the Starmie and/or for the team (if it lacks a spinner, for example) and Trick is if you choose to Scarf it.

Speaking of scarf, what are the items for your guys?

Magmorter February 12th, 2011 7:42 PM

Alakazam has choice specs, salamence just has leftovers but I could maybe give him a choice band. I might switch alakazam with Gengar, and then switch Dusclops with Milotic. I could switch Tyranitar with Salamence but what do you mean
Quote:

Mence is banned in 4th gen
? I was also thinking maybe brining in a Mamoswine as a lead and Typhlosion or Magmortar? Here's my revised team so far then:

Mamoswine
: (Lead/Physical Attacker) Nature: Jolly Item: Focus Sash

http://www.smogon.com/download/sprites/dp/478.png

252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Stealth Rock
Earthquake
Ice Shard
Stone Edge

Salamence
: (Attack Sweeper) Nature: Adamant

http://www.smogon.com/download/sprites/dp/373.png
148 HP / 248 Atk / 112 Spd evs

Fly
Earthquake
Dragon Dance
Rock Slide

Gengar
: (Sp. Attack Sweeper) Nature: Timid Item: Life Orb

http://www.smogon.com/download/sprites/dp/94.png
4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Shadow Ball
Thunderbolt
Focus Blast
Hidden Power Fire/ Explosion/ Flamethrower/ Pyschic

Milotic
: (Tank/Staller) Nature: Calm Item: Leftovers
http://www.smogon.com/download/sprites/dp/350.png

252 HP / 192 Def / 56 SpD / 8 Spe
Surf
Toxic
Ice Beam/Haze
Recover

Blissey
: (Utility/Tank)

http://www.smogon.com/download/sprites/dp/242.png
252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spe
Aromatherapy
Softboiled
Sesmic Toss
Thunderwave/Toxic

Typhlosion/Magmortar: (Type Advantage/Element Sp Attackers?)

Griffinbane February 12th, 2011 8:24 PM

In 4th gen, Salamence was banned to the uber tier, meaning you can't use him in standard play, just in uber tier play. If you want to play standard, you'll need to switch Mence out.

Tiers

Magmorter February 12th, 2011 10:54 PM

Ahh that sucks! :( ahh well thanks anyway, I guess I could switch him with Tyranitar or Garchomp (assuming they aren't uber rank either?)

Fire Wolf February 13th, 2011 1:33 AM

Garchomp too was banned to the Uber tier, but Tyranitar is usable.

Snoopy February 13th, 2011 10:42 AM

How are these pokemon natures?

How is brave nature for a squirtle? What about serious nature for a charizard? I'm going to be teaching my squirtle when he's a blastoise earthquake and some other ice move for his weaknesses. Idk what I'm going to teach charizard though so any suggestions? But I'm more interested in the natures, are these natures any good? I'm thinking of getting these two pokemon in the beginning from my SS version ( of course lvl 5)

Griffinbane February 13th, 2011 12:08 PM

Anything works for in-game play. Competitively, here's Blastoise and Charizard. You don't want Serious nature for Charizard because it's a neutral nature, meaning it does nothing for it. Try a SpA+ if you're using special attacks, Attack+ nature if you're using physical attacks, or Speed+ nature.
+Special Attack Natures: Mild (-Defense), Modest (-Attack), Quiet (-Speed), Rash (-Special Defense)
+Speed Natures: Hasty (-Defense), Jolly (-Special Attack), Naive (-Special Defense), Timid (-Attack)
+Attack Natures: Adamant (-Special Attack), Brave (-Speed), Lonely (-Defense), Naughty (-Special Defense)

I'm trying to get a flawless celebi from a given nature from the guy in the shop (that event celebi) but I keep reseting my DS and I'm getting bored of it... I don't know how to RNG abuse... it's something about changing the time on my DS and getting the poke I want, right?

Could someone tell me the time I have to set to get a flawless jolly celebi?

There isnt a set time, it differs from game to game because of your ID etc.

Just use Pokesav and get an AR if you want one lol. Its alot easier than RNG which is a mythlol.

Oh... I just wanted a legit one... That's a pity :(

Thanks!

So after getting my butt kicked by DA's stall team for the first time in my life ever, as I have never once lost to him save that one time, it got me thinking.

Can a stall team work without SandStorm?

Garrabutártulo February 14th, 2011 1:19 PM

Hail works similar to sandstorm.

Can someone tell me if traded pokemon gain more EVs than my own pokémon, plz?

sims796 February 14th, 2011 8:49 PM

No, see, I don't really want that, either. I want to know if a stall team can be made without Sandstorm, I don't really need a replacement for it, thanks anyway.

Yep they can be made without Sandstorm. Sandstorm is just there for extra residual damage really to wear down sweepers or to benefit Pokemon, say if you use Cradily or some garbage with the sp.def or speed boost etc.

Well, that nature isn't too horribly bad. Increase in Speed and decrease in Special Defense, Jolly would be much preferred, but when you are talking about a shiny, natures don't tend to matter. :3

Anyways, that would also tend to go by his ability~ If it is Guts, congrats. If it is Run Away, I must apologize. :c I will post movesets for both, however~

Guts:
Item: Toxic Orb/Flame orb
EVs: 252 Attack 252 Speed 6 HP
Moves:
-Facade
-Sucker Punch
-Protect/Swords Dance
-Reversal/U-turn

Run Away:
Item: Life Orb
Evs: 252 Attack 252 Speed 6 HP
Moves:
-Swords Dance
-Return
-Quick Attack
-Crunch

OR

Item: Salac Berry
Evs: 252 Attack 252 Speed 6 HP
Moves:
-Endure
-Reversal
-Return
-Crunch

TECHNICALLY, all of these movesets will work for a Guts Raticate, so choose which one you like the most in that case, but the first is more recommended. :3

Milotic Moveset...

As it says on the name, just looked on the smogon page for Milotic movesets and most of them seem to consist of getting the perfect typing for hidden power and frankly... I cant be bothered with that. So jw if anyone could give me a hand? :)

You have 4 choices:
1. Soft reset until you get the right IVs.
2. Learn to RNG.
3. Find a move to replace Hidden Power.
4. Trade for it.

Christopher February 17th, 2011 6:53 PM

hey everyone I need some help with some movesets for the following pokemon

Umbreon-Calm
Evs-252-Sp.D/128-Hp/128-defense

Tentacruel-Sassy
Evs-252-Sp.D/252-Hp/4-Defense

Blaziken-Lonely
Evs-252-Atk/252-Speed/4Sp.D

Hariyama-Naughty
Evs-252-Hp/252-Atk/4-Defense

Most of those were Eved out of Boredom so some (all) the natures are not Ideal but I will be using them semi competitively.

also I'd like to know if any of these would be worth Eving,If so what are the ideal movesets and Evs?

Treecko-Lonely-31 Attack Iv
Steelix-Brave
Slakoth-Naughty
Ralts-Modest (will more than likely be doing this one next)
Spiritomb-Quiet
Pineco-Impish
Sandshrew-Adamant- 31 Attack Iv
Skarmory-Jolly
Skorupi-Jolly
krabby-Adamant
Beldum-naughty ( main reason for this one is due to it being shiny and I feel its kinda wasted if I don't use it)

any advice would be appreciated.

What would be a good moveset for one of those Crown Raikou? It can involve HP Grass if you want it to.

AncienTLorD86 February 20th, 2011 1:52 AM

hello...just had a simple suggestion..

Empoleon
Modest / Torrent
HP Electric 70
6 HP / 252 Sp.Atk / 252 SpE

how about this EV..?

EDIT: some at other site said 252 SpE is not good..so i change to 198 HP / 252 SpAtk / 60 SpE...

Well hun, if the Pokemon already has full Effort Values, there is no point in training it at all. o: Dunno why someone would put max Special defense onto a Salamence, anyways..
But yes, a Flawless Pokemon is still a Pokemon, and should be trained as such.
I would recommend breeding it, because parents often pass down there flawless IV's to their children.

Well it's not level 100 yet so it doesn't have those stats yet but maybe it's for when it will be level 100. Right now it's level 64 with 215/197/127/166/150/212. What would you say to that?

Agility, Sub to activate Petaya Berry and Torrent and mash things with your attack moves. Works good with Toxic Spikes support it which cripples other water types and Blissey.

Energy Ball, because it's a reliable STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus) move. Having both moves at the same time isn't a bad idea too.

Manaphy is capable of sweeping whole teams in the rain. It gets bulky defenses (100/100/100) and an excellent boosting move in Tail Glow. Tail Glow boosts its special attack by +3, so in 2 turns it's capable of getting to +6, the max boosts. It also gets hydration rest so you can't hurt it with status and it can instantly heal itself.

Tail Glow only increases SpA by +2. If it did +3, that thing would be banned without question. So it takes three turns to reach +6 (which quadruples the SpA stat).

I must not be as "hip" with Gen 5 as I thought. :P

I've got a question about pokérus.
It just doubles the EV gain in battle, not the ones you get with proteins, calcium and those things, right?
If I check the pokémon and it has a little red star over it, it means it has pokérus and it's cured? Does it double the EVs even if it's already cured?

Need Help with Battle Frontier Team

My team is nearly finished, but I still need help with moves and where to spend EV's.

Gengar @ Life Orb
252 Sp. Attack / 252 Speed / 6 HP
Nature: Quiet
Ability: Levitate

Shadow Ball
Focus Blast
Sludge Bomb
Psychic

Crazy Speed and Special Attack combined with a vast moveset to OHKO many types of pokes. Shadow Ball and Sludge Bomb for STAB. No Thunderbolt or Dark Pulse because of other Pokemon in team.

Lanturn @ Leftovers
42 HP / 156 Sp. Attack / 156 Defense / 156 Sp. Defense
Nature: Mild
Ability: Volt Absorb

Surf / Hydro Pump (Choose One)
Thunderbolt / Thunder (Choose One)
Ice Beam / Blizzard (Choose One)
Undecided (Maybe Thunder Wave, Confuse Ray, or Aqua Ring?)

Lasts long with over 400 HP and high Defense / Sp. Defense. Can still pack a punch with high Sp. Attack and strong moves. Possible Thunder Wave to make up for the lack of speed and contribute to the team. Possible Confuse Ray or Aqua Ring to reduce hits on Lanturn or increase health regeneration each turn.

Tyranitar @ Focus Sash
252 Attack / 88 HP / 84 Defense / 84 Sp. Defense
Nature: Gentle
Trait: Guts

Earthquake
Stone Edge
Crunch
Outrage

Good HP, Defense, and Sp. Defense for more survivability while dominating others with its insane attack and powerful moves. Focus Sash to protect OHKO Fighting moves. Can't do much about the nature. Stone Edge and Crunch for STAB. Guts trait to boost attack and prevent from damaging teammates with Sandstorm.

Need most help with moves and EV's. All help is appreciated!

Dude22376 March 2nd, 2011 12:10 AM

No, no, no. You can do much better than this.
Individual analysis:

Gengar
Quiet removes one big advantage of Gengar: its speed. With Quiet, you're left with a slow, frail Pokemon that will get KOed before it can launch a single attack. Timid is much better, Modest is acceptable too.
Destiny Bond is a must-have, since the AI will suicide itself on Gengar. Except in the Battle Castle, where getting KOed reduces your CP earned. In that case, you shouldn't be using Gengar.

Lanturn
Starmie does a much better job than Lanturn due to higher Speed and Sp. Att. If you're looking for a setup sweeper, use Calm Mind Suicune.

Tyranitar
First off, Tyranitar's only ability is Sand Stream. Larvitar/Pupitar will change its ability when it evolves.
Having 4 damaging moves warrants a Choice item. And a 4-move attacking set is not Tyranitar's best: it can use Dragon Dance too.
Stone Edge has been called "the worst attack in DPP" because it misses so often. Outrage does the same damage as a STAB Crunch, so it's redundant. Stick with Crunch and Earthquake. The remaining two move slots can be Dragon Dance and Substitute/elemental punch.
Lastly if you're using a Tyranitar, it'll help if you have something to take advantage of sandstorm, like Garchomp.

EV wise, for sweepers or defensive setup Pokemon, use a 252/252/6 set. For Pokemon with priority moves, like Scizor, put enough speed to outrun things that need to be KOed by their non-priority moves (e.g. Scizor needs 98 Speed to outrun Heatran and OHKO with Superpower/Brick Break), and dump the rest in defenses.

Well, i'd like to know how to get one?
I heard u can only get it from an even in new york about 5? Years ago.

Can they breed a chansey with something to get another chansey with wish?
And if i do trade, how do i know if it's hacked or not?
What would i have to trade for one?

Lotta questions in there xD but thanks to anyone who answers them.

IV's: 13 HP, 13 attack, 18 defense, 27 special attack, 27 special defense, 1 speed
EV' s: none atm

Speed IVs so bad , thats why i ask here if i should try catch again.

Those ivs are mediocre at best, try and get the Ivs of HP, defense and speed to be like the sp.att and dp.def ones.

So, how do i get one now? Do i have to trade with someone who has one?
Can they breed a chansey with something to get another chansey with wish?
And if i do trade, how do i know if it's hacked or not?
What would i have to trade for one?

Lotta questions in there xD but thanks to anyone who answers them.

Wish/Sweet Scent Chansey event - December 16, 2004 – January 2, 2005.
These Pokemon were distributed as eggs, containing only the two moves mentioned. Eggs hatched at level 5 in the Advance Generation. Eggs must be hatched to be transferred in Pal Park. These Pokemon are some of the only promotional Pokemon that
should have come from Kanto. It is possible that an egg was distributed and later traded over, but highly unlikely.

OT – Hatcher
ID - Hatcher

So yeah these are incredibly rare. Your options are either Pokesaving one or finding someone with one, with the latter i wish (lolpun) the best of luck with that.

OK.

Gengar:

I like his moveset but I will definitely try to get a different nature. Probably timid.

Lanturn:

I have Lanturn over Starmie because of its very high hp and decent defenses. Lasts alot longer than Starmie and has electric moves as well. Still need help with moves. I will change Ev's to 40 HP, 236 Defense, 236 Sp. Defense in order to keep its HP over 400 and have awesome defense. Will do much less damage though. What nature would be best for this poke?

Tyranitar:

Will get rid of Outrage for... idk. Still wanna keep Stone Edge because with STAB it does 150 base damage. Even with 80 Accuracy thats a ton. Still unsure of Ev's. For sure want the 252 in Attack to utilize Tyranitar's insane Attack base stat. Will try for Adamant Nature.

More help needed. And is this a bit better?

You are using Lanturn for attacking, so Speed and Special Attack are more important than defenses. Starmie also learns Surf, Ice Beam and Thunderbolt, and with higher Speed and Sp. Att it's the far superior choice.

For Tyranitar, Crunch is already very good as a main attack - it's 120BP with 20% chance of "I win" (Def down usually means the next hit will KO). Stone Edge has the same average BP (150*0.8), but since it has a chance to miss it is a lot more unreliable. Either Substitute or an elemental punch would be better - Substitute protects you from status, critical hits and OHKO moves, while elemental punches provide coverage (e.g. Thunderpunch can hit Gyarados for super-effective).
If you want Dragon Dance on Tyranitar you'll have to breed, but it's a very good move. Speed boosting allows you to get the drop on what would be faster, like the Gyarados mentioned earlier. If using a DD set, use Jolly with 252 in Speed and Attack.
If you're using an all-out attacker, a Choice Scarf would be best, since it patches up Tyranitar's poor Speed. The last two attacks could be elemental punches.

So I was wondering

So I was wondering how do you get a flawless pokemon or perfect IV's and EV's Im new to online pokemon and want to get all of this down.

Dragon Team

Flygon @ Life Orb
Ev's: 252 Attack / 252 Speed / 6 HP
Nature: Adamant
Ability: Levitate

Outrage
Earthquake
Stone Edge
Crunch

Very high attack and speed combined with Life Orb OHKO a lot. Outrage because with STAB it has a base power of 180 compared to Dragon Claw's 120. Earthquake with STAB. Stone Edge because of high power and super effective against ice.

Altaria @ Leftovers
Ev's: 252 HP / 129 Defense / 129 Sp. Defense
Nature: Bold/Calm
Ability: Natural Cure

Dragon Pulse
Flamethrower
Roost
Sing

Great Sp. Defense combined with good HP and Defense makes for a good wall. Roost and leftovers to increase survivability. Dragon Pulse and Flamethrower to utilize the higher Sp. Attack and deal some damage. Sing to immobilize pokes while slowly taking them out with attacks.

Kingdra @ Life Orb
EV's: 252 HP / 192 Sp. Attack / 64 Speed
Nature: Modest
Ability: Swift Swim

Rain Dance
Surf
Draco Meteor
Ice Beam

Rain Dance combined with Swift Swim gives a 2x bonus to speed and a 1.5 bonus to STAB Surf. Draco Meteor with STAB gives a base damage of 210, which is enough to put a big dent in any pokemon, and Ice Beam is there to take out anything ice is special effective against. 252 Ev's in HP to give Kingdra time to throw out Rain Dance and follow it up with many attacks.

Note: This team is purely for fun in the battle frontier. It is by no means a top tier team. All help is greatly appreciated. Most help is needed with Kingdra's Ev's =D

If you're playing on a simulator like Pokemon Online, you can control each of these factors.
On cart, there are two ways:
1) Create the Pokemon with Pokegen/Pokesav, then transfer it to your cart via Action Replay/GTS abuse. (However, if you're playing against someone else, please say that "I use legal hacks".)
2) Learn to RNG abuse. Details can be found here: http://www.smogon.com/ingame/rng/
With RNG abuse, the only luck-based factor is whether or not you hit your delay. Most people have a delay range of 10, and since delays are consistently odd/even, the odds of hitting your delay are about 1 in 5 or 6.
The rest of RNG abuse consists solely of flipping through your Journal the correct number of times.
